Broken (EP)

For those whose tastes resonate with industrial metal, Broken (EP) by Nine Inch Nails delivers. Departing from his earlier electronic "synthpop" style, Nails lead singer Trent Reznor geared his 1992 extended play release toward a heavier "noise rock" sound. Several of the tracks were controversial for their disconcerting subject matter. The general public, however, still clamored for the album, which rose to number seven on the Billboard charts. Two of the tracks, "Wish" and "Happiness in Slavery," received Grammy nods, which propelled the album toward both commercial as well as critical success. The metal fan who wants depth in his lyrics needs to download a copy of Nine Inch Nails' Broken, which provides the quintessential 90s mixture of substance and sound.
