Musical Influences of the Nine Inch Nails

Nine Inch Nails is one of the most influential music groups of the 1990s and 2000s. Most would not call it a group, though, as it was led by singer/writer/creator Trent Reznor, and he tended to hire random people to perform with him as the music was fairly easy to play. He is famous for his ability to transition from a harsh, industrial and electronic sound to a soothing, melodramatic piano solo for the next song. He was even emulated by musical masterminds like Johnny Cash. With all this raw talent and the ability to inspire others, one might ask, "Where did he get his inspiration?"
Musical influences
Trent Reznor has stated in many different interviews that one of his primary sources of inspiration in his music is from another solo superstar, David Bowie. He even goes on to list David Bowie's album Low as one of his favorites. Another musical group that has influenced much of Reznor's earlier progression is the band Rush, and he states that "Rush is one of the best bands ever." Other notable influences include Queen, The Cars, Jesus and the Mary Chain, Soft Cell, Prince and The Cure.
Trent Reznor is a musical mastermind that is sure to go down in the history books. He has influenced much of the darker electronic music that we see today and was listed by Time as one of the world's most influential people. His style is raw and innovative, which makes him a man of legend.
