Nine Inch Nails Scheduling Conflict With The Idaho Center

We were informed by the Idaho Center, where Nine Inch Nails plan to perform on June 15th, that the show has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. Hopefully they will reschedule this date for a later time? This is what the center had to say:

I'm sorry to have to report this to you, but due to a scheduling conflict, Nine-Inch Nails will not be performing at the Idaho Center in June. Hopefully we will be able to bring them here at a later date.

Thanks a lot also to: Audrey.

Trent Reznor Interview On Much Music Tomorrow

Trent will be at Much Music in Toronto at 2:00 PM EST on Friday April 28th in Toronto, Ontario to hold an interview with VJ Sook-Yin Lee. "I was told by a security official that works for Much," explained Bishop. "I'll be there so hopefully I could try to get some backstage passes for the concert at 8:00pm," he added, "I know I'll be there."

Trent Reznor will be the 2nd of three interviews that day, and will be on 2pm EST. They usually rebroadcast in the evening, so, for people at work it should be on again later. Much Music has also sent out a newsletter to those subscribed to receive them from the official site that wrist bands will be given out to people on that day, although that does not guarantee an entrance I'm told.

Maynard James Keenan (frontman of A Perfect Circle, and Tool) will be the third interview that day on Much Music at 2:30 PM.

Thanks a lot to: Rick, Bishop, Don, Jasmina, FistofFury.

Freetime Magazine Interviewed NIN Drummer Jerome Dillon

Found in the latest issue of Freetime Magazine, is a new interview with Nine Inch Nails' drummer Jerome Dillon. The Rochester, NY based paper chatted with former Howlin' Maggie drummer, about his contribution to the band and about himself. Nine Inch Nails perform Saturday, April 29th at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY.

Check the interview out here: Nine Inch Nails By Rex Rutkoski.

Thanks a lot to: Clifford.

Trent Reznor Responds To The Chicago Sun-Times Comment "Unfashionable People"

Michael Craven, an SLS viewer, attended the second UIC (University of Illinois, Chicago) NIN concert last night, and just before they began their first encore (TDTWWA), Reznor responded to the bad review Chicago Sun-Times had for their first Chicago date last Friday: Nine Inch Nails stuck in the '90s.

"Does anyone have a copy of the Chicago Sun-Times handy...I need something to wipe my ass with. They called what we are doing unfashionable. So all of you people are unfashionable. It is now unfashionable to be unhappy. I call unfashionable what's on the fucking radio right now. So here is some more unfashionable music for you unfashionable people."

Thanks a lot to: Sean Bires, Michael Craven.

A Perfect Circle Members Mention Trent Reznor & Comment About Tapeworm In Kerrang! Magazine

As was mentioned in last weeks Kerrang!, it appears Twiggy Ramirez is still 'living' at Hollywood' Sunset Marquis hotel bar. This weeks he is mentioned in the "Bloke Of The Week" section (though only as a background character, not the "Bloke" himself) which features "underground electrolord Tricky".

The part featuring Twiggy reads: "Stepping over the prone body of drunken Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez...."

Also there is an interview with Maynard James Keenan and Billy Howerdel of "A Perfect Circle", where they mention Trent Reznor and Tapeworm:

Billy Howerdel's former employer Trent Reznor has heard A Perfect Circle's album and invited the band out on the road to tour with NIN this summer.

"I have a lot of respect for Trent", the guitarist admits, "to hear him say the words 'i'm proud of you' meant a lot to me."

Later on they ask Maynard about the current state of the Tapeworm project:
"That's another thing that's buried on a computer somewhere" he sighs. It's like the sasquatch or something, it's rumoured to exist. Every now and then a farmer in Nebraska will spot a riff or a melody....."

Thanks a lot to: Mr Pogo.

Into The Void Single Returns to The Weathermen

Just a quick note to let everyone know that the extremely hard to find NIN's "Into The Void" single that was originally slated for release many months ago is back in stock at Weathermen Records. This Australian only import has been one of the hardest to find releases the Weathermen have come across since the demand has been much greater than the production. The single includes these such tracks:

1. Into the void
2. We're in this together
3. The perfect drug
4. The New Flesh
The CD has a paper sleeve and no halo number listed which leads us to believe this was possibly originally to be a promo item. It can be ordered at www.theweathermen.com. On the right is photograph of the single.

Ticketmaster Says Otherwise About Vancouver Ticket Sale

He was informed that tickets do not go on sale until 12 noon on April 29th. Although the Orca Bay website says 9:30 am, ticketmaster assured him that they have the right info, and that 12 noon is correct. Tickets for this venue are $50 and $30, not including TM service charges.

Random Nothing News

Last night on Angel (Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off) Charlie Clouser's "naked exorcism" mix of rob zombie's "living dead girl" was played for a full 30 seconds. The scene featured an evil (and very hot) vampire slayer dancing in a club then kicking everyone's ass for the fun of it.

Small SLS News Update Glitch

While I was at work yesterday, finishing up yesterday's last minute headlines, I accidentally deleted our April 21st to April 18th news stories, which was also the reason why SLS News was loading incorrectly the past 24 hours. I managed to save some other updates I thought I also deleted, thank fucking god, and fixed that smaller problem. Although the news is in working order again, I have to retype the lost 4 days of work... which translates into: 350+ emails to re-read.

If by any chance someone has our April 21st to April 18th headlines cached away in their computer... I could surly benefit your help, if you would send them my way. If not, thanks anyway... I hope to have everything back online no later than next week.

Lou Reed Mentions Trent Reznor in Q Magazine (UK)

Found in the latest issue of Q Magazine (UK) is an interview with Lou Reed, which he mentions Trent Reznor. Below is the blurb found in the issue:

Question by Jennifer Harris (usa): You've said that Duran Duran's version of Perfect Day was better than your own and that you wish you could have sung the song as well as Simon le Bon. Were you being sarcastic?

Answer: Did I say that? Trent Reznor, I Did a show with him, and he was so angry that Duran Duran had recorded Perfect Day and he wanted to know why I even let that happen. But they had been very cooperative. They sent me the tape and I thought it was great.

Thanks a lot to: Fredlix.

10 Year Anniversary of Marilyn Manson

Just thought to remind Manson fans that today, April 26, marks the 10 year anniversary of marilyn manson's first ever performance (as marilyn manson and the spooky kids) at Churchill's Hideaway in Miami. They were an opening band for a band callled the goods.

Thanks a lot to: reptile (steve).

News Updates Tomorrow

Updates tomorrow may be little slow, for I will be out all day celebrating my 20th birthday. If there is anything ground breaking to post tomorrow... I'll see that it makes its way to the net.

Unclear Future for new Nine Inch Nails Album or Material

This may or may not be that conclusive about the new Nine Inch Nails album, but when Trent Reznor spoke to Rolling Stone, he spoke a brand new NIN album, that was in the works. Now with the recent interview in Guitar World, he's referring to some new material, but made a point NOT to call it a new album. Although Trent mentioned to Scott, the SLS viewer who met up with him last week at the Milwaukee gig, that there would be two upcoming EPs from the Fragile sessions. (Read our April 21st headline, "Two Nine Inch Nails EPs, NIN to Tour This Fall, Tapeworm Possibly End of the Year" for more info.)

Flexxion, an SLS viewer, emailed the interviewer for rolling stone for his thoughts about this:

"When Trent spoke to me, he specifically referred to a new nin ALBUM that was basically done. not sure if he has reconsidered and decided to split up the stuff into EPs..."
Considering what Trent told Guitar World, I still believe Trent is talking about the Fragile sessions.

Einsturzende Neubauten to Play at Dour Festival

The Dour Festival mailing list, sent out a newsletter today, which said that Einsturzende Neubauten have confirmed to play at the Dour festival. The festival takes place from 6th till 9th of July 2000, in Belgium. Check out the festival site here: www.dourfestival.com.

Thanks a lot to: Psychoyouth Kills Dog.

Trent Reznor Graces The Cover of Incite Magazine

Trent Reznor is the June featured cover story of Incite magazine, which he discusses much about the music he created for the original Quake video game by ID Software. Also in the three page interview is a bit about the Fragile, how he might do more in the way of game music, tapeworm, the female vocalist project, the new album, and the Fragility v2.0 tour.

Below is a blurb from the magazine about what he would want to do with the new album and such:

"[The fragile] was about no restrictions, and I think what would be healthy for me right now would be to make an album with limitations. Like, every song has to be done in two days. And if it sucks, no one has to hear it. But I like tricking myself into thinking a different way."

"I'm into the idea of synthesis through throwing in disparate ideas. But I also need something to motivate me. The trouble with working by yourself is that all the pressure's on you to inspire yourself."

This issue also features a few new photos of Trent.

Thanks a lot to: erica.

Brief Alternative Press Interview with Trent Reznor

Featured in the new Alternative Press magazine (June 2000) with Green Day on the cover. The Roll Tape section features a small Q and A with Trent Reznor. Although the interview isn't truly ground breaking, below is a bit he had to say about picking up the tour after the European festivals:

AP: You said on an MTV.com Web chat that you would stay on tour forever to promote The Fragile.

Trent: I was being dramatic. Here's what I'm faced with: The only thing that has ever gotten the word out on NIN was touring. So I either let the record vanish or I do whatever it takes to get the word out. That means touring. When we're done, we'll go do some festivals in Europe. And then I'll assess the situation. If people are still interested here, I'll go out for another round, if it's done in another context.

Also in the interview, Trent comments about Richard Patrick's rants, Tapeworm, and pop crap that is flooding MTV and the air waves.

Thanks a lot to: Diseased Angel.

NIN Officially Announce Second Final NY Gig with Sale Date

Nothing Records have officially announced the second and final New York arena gig at the Nassau Coliseum on May 10th. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 28th at 4pm EST.

NINE INCH NAILS ANNOUNCE SECOND AND FINAL
NEW YORK AREA SHOW:

NINE INCH NAILS TO PERFORM MAY 10 AT NASSAU COLISEUM:
TICKETS TO GO ON SALE FRIDAY, APRIL 28 AT 4PM ET
April 24, 2000, New York, NY - nine inch nails announce today their second and final New York area show on May 10 at Nassau Coliseum.  The band's May 9 appearance at NYC's Madison Square Garden sold out in 30 minutes.  Tickets for Nassau Coliseum will go on sale April 28 at 4:00PM ET.

nine inch nails' "Fragility v2.0" U.S. tour kicked off April 12 at Cleveland's CSU Convocation Center and wraps on June 18 at Denver's Pepsi Center.  The 43 city tour is selling rapidly to new fans eager to experience the band who redefined live performance in the '90's.

In reviewing the band's April 21 show at Chicago's UIC Pavillion (which sold out in 12 minutes), THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE's Greg Kot stated, "(Reznor) let his music speak, with dramatic ebb-and-flow dynamics over a riveting 90 minutesStrobe-lit silhouettes behind a black curtain, the five members of Nine Inch Nails entered with the tense lurch of "Somewhat Damaged," blurring the line between "real" instruments and electronic artifice with impressive ease. Though Reznor's studio creations have become increasingly complex, the stage show was no less ambitious, underpinning live drums with scalloped electronic beats and altering the tone of guitars and keyboards to create cinematic soundscapes."

nine inch nails live is Trent Reznor (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Robin Finck (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Danny Lohner (bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals), Charlie Clouser (keyboards, theremin, vocals), and Jerome Dillon (drums).

Fans can log on to nine inch nails' official website www.nin.com to review the complete tour itinerary and purchase tickets online.  One of the most unique artist sites on the web, nin.com v3.0 has just launched and features the latest tour news, contests, and exclusive images and video.

A Perfect Circle, fronted by Maynard James Keenan of Tool and producer/guitar player Billy Howerdel, open for nine inch nails.

Nine Inch Nails Not To Open For Iron Maiden, News About Starfuckers Inc. Video

You've got to leave it to Allstar magazine to set the record strait! Last week Billboard Online said Nine Inch Nails will be opening for Iron Maiden this summer. It seems Allstar confirmed with Nothing Records that this is absolutely "incorrect."

In other news, Allstar said the new Nine Inch Nails video "Starfuckers, Inc." takes shots to Courtney Love, Fred Durst, Mariah Carey, Puff Daddy, and others. To read the rest of their article about the video, please click here.

Thanks a lot to: mark, brian.

Possible Nine Inch Nails Live Video Compilation

As we filter through all the Nine Inch Nails concert reviews, we received a pretty funny one from Wick, an SLS viewer, about last night's gig and a piece about a possible live video compilation soon!

Man that show was the greatest rush of my life. I finally managed to squeeze my way up to the front/side of the stage so I could get as close to Trent as possible. When I could go no further, I was just there in liquid ecstasy singing along to the songs. (Among them were Starfuckers, Head like a hole, Suck, Closer, etc.. He really didn't single out any of his albums at all which was cool).

I was singing along during one of my faves: The Day The World Went Away, when out of nowhere a black shirt landed on his head. I mean it LANDED and STAYED there till he was done with the chorus... his head was totally covered. After he was done he took it off and said "Nice fucking shot!" He then smiled and threw the shirt back in the crowd and went on with the show. It was really cool that he didn't get pissed or anything. He took it all in great humor. TRENT FOR LIFE!

Wick then explained that he ran into the Nine Inch Nails webmaster and was informed about a possible Nine Inch Nails video compilation in the works:
"There was a man after the show with a camcorder. It turns out he is the camera guy that Trent pays to film the show and the crowd after. Well my friend overheard a girl asking him why he was taping and he said it may be used for a new NIN video that is being made. Needless to say, my bud and me got in that tape so Trent HAD to have seen us! >:^) Lets hope that it's all true, and a sequel to closure will come fourth soon.

NIN's Starsuckers Inc Hitting Radio Waves Early

Chicago's Q101 radio station have been airing the official edited version of Starfuckers, Inc, among many other radio stations in the country. (Please read our April 19th headline "Starfuckers Inc. Radio Single Promo Including Scans!!" for more info.)

Michael Craven, an SLS viewer, caught the new version yesterday, where the "f" is changed to an "s" to be Starsuckers. "It sounded a little blurbed still when it came to the "suckers" part," he explained, "but it was still much better than the old "dub-out" version." Anyway, after the song, the DJ James Van Osdel had some kind words to say about NIN:

"That's Nine Inch Nails from 'The Fragile'. And consider if you will just how meticulous Trent Reznor is in the recording studio. Think about 'The Fragile', and the two full-length albums before that--every noise, every sonic nuance was very carefully mapped out and planned. Every time you Listen to a Nine Inch Nails album with headphones on, you hear something you didn't hear before. Very careful attention to detail, Nine Inch Nails...one of the most legendary bands around these days."
The DJ then went on to plug NIN Q101 recording session that we reported on April 19th, which airs on Thursday. (Please read our headline "Live 101 Session with Nine Inch Nails!!!!" for more info.)

FNX Radio NIN Ticket Give Away for Two May Gigs

FNX radio in Boston is going to be giving away tickets to the May 2nd show in Worcester, MA and the May 3rd show in Providence RI (a pair of each for each person who wins) this weekend. Both shows are about 45 minutes from Boston.

The station holds large weekend long giveaways every weekend, so this one will probably follow the same format, starting on Friday afternoon and running through Sunday, "but not Sunday morning cause they play jazz then," explained Petie.

Check it out though - www.FNXRadio.com.

Pulse Magazine Reviewed TheThe's "Naked Self"

Pulse magazine has reviewed TheThe's new record "NakedSelf" released on Nothing Records. Below is what they had to say, which was very positive.

THETHE
NakedSelf(Nothing/Interscope)

After a six-year absence from recording (not counting '95's Hank Williams tribute Hanky Panky), TheThe mastermind Matt Johnson returns with the sprawling Naked-Self, his first for Trent Reznor's Nothing imprint. Johnson begins the quietly creepy "GlobalEyes" with undulating guitar and bass, building with simple layers of guitar texture and beats into a claustrophobic, surging midtempo groove. "ShrunkenMan" combines a compelling tom tom/acoustic rhythm with atmospheric Zeppelinesque guitar riffery to back its lyrical portrait of a man lost in adult life ("And all he really wants/Is to feel grown up again"). And the anti-consumerist sarcasm of "SwineFever" enters the realm of orchestral rock with banks of stringy guitar figures and an unstoppable, stomping rhythm supporting transistorized vocals. And if the bombast quotient gets too heavy, Johnson offers "TheWhisperers," an ode to loneliness with a pretty falsetto chorus and pensive acoustic strumming. A strong effort by an artist/project that spent too much of the '90's in silence. (****) -Ned Hammad

Thanks a lot to: Crystal.

No Stile Project Interview With Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson's management informed me just a few minutes ago that the supposed interview, which was faked to be broadcasted live at 7pm EST tonight on Stile Project.com, is not true. There is to be an update on the official Marilyn Manson News website later this evening to confirm the interview is completely not true.

Nine Inch Nails to Possibly Return This Summer for A Double Billing

Eric, an SLS viewer, had the good fortune of attending the after show NIN party in Chicago on Friday night.

"I spoke with Charlie Clouser," added Eric, "who was extremely nice." Charlie commented the band was looking to come back this summer. "Possibly to play a double bill with another band," said Charlie. Charlie then proceded to pose for a picture to be taken, "removing his stocking cap first," Eric said.

We mentioned on April 21st that Trent Reznor informed Scott, the SLS viewer who also had the honor to talk with Trent at the Milwaukee gig, that NIN would possibly return or tour this fall. (Please read our headline, "Two Nine Inch Nails EPs, NIN to Tour This Fall, Tapeworm Possibly End of the Year" for more info.) Although it's uncertain whether or not Nine Inch Nails will return to the states this summer to open for Iron Maiden in August, following the European festival gigs, claims Billboard.com. We hope to confirm, sometime soon, if the opening gig for Iron Maiden has anything to do with what Charlie mentioned to Eric. (Please read our April 21st headline "Nine Inch Nails to Open for Iron Maiden in August?" for more info.)

Not only was Eric lucky enough to speak with Charlie, but also with Robin Finck, "who was equally nice and humble," he said, which then Robin thanked him for coming to the show. Eric then asked Robin about what it was like working with Axl Rose, which he said, "It started off great then kind of plateaued." After Eric chatted with him about the long delayed Guns N' Roses album, he said, "Robin doesn't have strong expectations of the album coming out soon." It's been said, many times before, but more recent in the new Axl Rose Rollingstone interview, now on stands by the way, that the new record is very NIN trendy? Interesting...

Robin, who put nearly two years of work into GNR's new album, replaced former GNR guitarist Slash when he left in '96. Before he signed up and departed with GNR, Robin took a temporary leave of absence early in '96 to play with French Canadian circus troupe Cirque du Soleil as well as performance-art glam punks the Impotent Sea Snakes.

"And I met Trent going into the hotel," commented Eric, which Trent kindly stopped and posed for a picture. "He was quiet, yet polite," he said. "As of 3:00 AM, he had not come to the party."

The Stile Project To Interview Marilyn Manson Tonight!

According to an excerpt, posted below, from the Stile Project website, Marilyn Manson is scheduled to be interviewed tonight at 7pm EST.

MONDAY - Stile has secured an interview with Marilyn Manson. He is currently in New York for the interview and it will be broadcast LIVE on the site Monday, April 24th/2000 @ 7:00PM EST SHARP. Rather amusing since Stile doesn't even LIKE Marilyn Manson.
The official website is one of the many sites linked on the official Marilyn Manson website. The site is linked to the 'male' symbol on the left side.

NIN/TR ON MTV Germany

The program MTV Sushi (MTV Germany) featured a newcomer band called "My Balloon" and one of the members requested NIN's WITT video, which was preceded by a 10-15 second clip of Trent talking about it. In case anyone in Germany wants to catch this again, the rerun will air on Monday at 23:30.

Thanks a lot to: Sabrina.

Marilyn Manson: Word 4 Word

MuchMusic online has an interview on their official website of Marilyn Manson talking about what books he read while recording Mechanical Animals.

Check it out here: Word 4 Word.

Tommy Lee Wishes Luck to Nine Inch Nails!

Found over on the official Methods of Mayhem (Tommy Lee's new band) website. Tommy Lee, who keeps an online journal during their tour, wrote a bit on April 14th about their New York show, and ends by saying... "I wanna wish my friends in NIN a great opening night... crush um' dudes!!".

Although the track "lll Behavior," is not found on the album or could have been renamed before release, was reported by Sonicnet News, when they interviewed Tommy Lee last year, that this tune features Charlie Clouser, Danny Lohner and ex-NIN drummer Chris Vrenna... This track also features Beastie Boys DJ Mix Master Mike (born Mike Schwartz) on the turntables.

For more information about this album, please check out our May 1st '99 headline "More News About NIN Contributing To Tommy Lee's New Band.) If you're also in the mood, check out CDNow.com for downloadable samples.

Update About Pig "Head Like A Hole" Cover

For those asking about the PIG cover of "Head Like A Hole," here's the latest update from the official website.

Ray is busy working on a new cover project with a full band. The working title is PIG ORCHESTRA, which is also being written as PIG ORK for short. Some arstists involved thus far include members of I Swervedriver, a young lady from Elastica and Mike Watts. Many more artists are involved. Five tracks have been completed. One track is an acoustic cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Head Like a Hole". The plan is to get quite a few songs down and pick the best. The project has been interrupted currently, due to the fact that the area where the studio complex was - the Fortress Studios - which housed Ranch Apocalypse and Bad Earth and loads of other bands' studios and rehearsal rooms - has suddenly closed. The problem was that when it opened several years ago, it was in a dingy, cheap backwater north of the the City of London - now the lease has been put up 450% by the local landlord because the area has become so trendy and infested with advertising agents and loft apartments.
For more information, please read our April 17th headline, "Pig To Cover Head Like A Hole".

Thanks a lot to: Diseased Angel.

Marilyn Manson People & Wrestling

We've been told Twiggy Ramirez has been doing more than just boozing up in Hollywood, he has been touring the independent wrestling circuit in the Southern States of America. "The last match he wrestled was with HWF (Hardcore Wrestling Federation) in Arkansas, which had "Guest appearances by Twiggy Ramirez from Marilyn Manson" on the poster," explained Dracos Feyr.

"Also in the JCW Promotion (Juggalo Championshit (Not a typo) Wrestling) run by the Insane Clown Posse," he added, "is a Marilyn Manson parody aptly named Marilyn Stardust (Also announced as Ziggy Manson at times) which runs out and proceeds to get thrown through a table or three by Twiztid or the ICP in the half-time interval between matches."

Two Nine Inch Nails EPs, NIN to Tour This Fall, Tapeworm Possibly End of the Year

Scott, one of the many lucky Nine Inch Nails fans, who stayed after the Milwaukee gig, was blessed with meeting Trent Reznor after the show. "After shaking his hand and getting my downward Spiral book signed," he added, "I asked him if we would be hearing any more of the music from the fragile sessions." To which Trent replied, "there will be two EPs coming out," and he said that would happen in the fall, about 4-5 months from now." Trent also explained Tapeworm should be out "hopefully by the end of the year" and that NIN will be back to tour this fall. Scott said about Trent Reznor, "he was very cool, eloquent and nice." Trent told Guitar World magazine (June 2000) he currently has "80 or 90 minutes of music finished and mastered that's either different variations of songs on the album or remixes done by everybody at the studio here, for the most part." Although Trent said he didn't know what to do with the music at press time, and that this wasn't his big statement, he isn't sure of himself if he wants to put out the two EPs as a retailed record. "Because it's more for the fans," Trent might even give the album away on the Internet, so he tells Guitar World. Being that Trent doesn't want his music misinterpreted, like "Oh, it's 70 minutes long. It's a new album." It isn't an album. "It's a side note. A diversion," he explained.

Richard Patrick Responds To Trent's Comments On VH1

Brett, who caught VH1's "The Daily One" yesterday, which featured special guest Filter. Kane, the host of the show, acted very anxious and started the show off quickly by asking, "I heard you and Trent have been in a big verbal sparring match lately."

Kane then continued his question with the comment Trent wrote SLS News about on March 3rd. "Last thing I heard was that he said," added Kane, "If you were in Filter, what else would you talk about?" It appears that Trent's response to Richard's trash talk, put him in a spin with a reported uneasy look on his face on LIVE television and had the band laughing, with Geno Lenardo, another member of Filter, saying, "ooooooooooohhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhhh." Kane then mentioned, "Well, you can get back at him now... or take the high road." Everyone started laughing again, explained Brett who wrote us yesterday about the program. Although Richard was in a good mood the entire time, he responded, "Well, Trent is a very complicated man, I wish him the best."

After the interview the rest of the hosts were teasing Richard saying that they should do a video wars with NIN vs the new Filter video, but Filter was not on camera. "I know they must've been pissed," added Gail who wrote in about it too. For those who don't know much about VH1, they have this thing where they put 3 videos against each other and people e-mail in who should win.

VH1's "The Daily One" airs again today at 2pm EST, according to VH1's program guide. Whether or not this episode is to feature Filter again, since it was aired LIVE, we'd love if someone, who has video capturing capabilities, to encode and submit it to us! I'd capture the show myself with my video card, but that's on my other computer, which by the way is still down at the moment. Thanks in advance!

Richard Patrick Comments On NIN's Sin Track Off Pretty Hate Machine

Yesterday on 102.7 WNEW, Filter was on the show Opie & Anthony, "a really funny talk show," explained derMoerder who caught the program. A caller asked Richard Patrick, "Why did you leave Nine Inch Nails?," which he responded, "Pretty much boredom... I didn't really do anything. [Laughs]"

Richard went on and gave an example; "how on Sin he just stood there," said derMoerder listening closely. "Generally there was a positive tone," he added, "with no Trent-bashing, although he did of course _have_ to mention how he was out-charting Trent, and how it was weird to be in that position... though he added, "Trent is a good guy."

Nine Inch Nails To Open for Iron Maiden in August?

What's this you ask? Well according to Billboard.com, near the bottom of yesterday's headline "Iron Maiden Is Back, With Familiar Voice," they report that NIN, among Korn and Slayer, will open for Iron Maiden at the Madison Square Garden in August! Below is the blurb from Billboard's ariticle:

Iron Maiden will be back in New York-this time at Madison Square Garden-on the Creative Artists Agency-booked Brave New World tour, which comes to America in August after a two-month European leg. Show openers will be Nine Inch Nails, Korn, and Slayer. At any rate, we haven't found a mention of this anywhere else -- not in any other media, nor on the web sites of any of the bands mentioned. We hope to get to the bottom of this with an answer later this week.

Random Bits About Metal Hammer and Kerrang Magazine Concerning Trent, Manson and Twiggy

We mentioned on April 19th, how Trent Reznor graces the cover of Metal Hammer magazine, with a new interview inside. Although Trent Reznor was in LA earlier this month rehearsing and working on other related Nine Inch Nails material, the Metal Hammer interview is an interview taken backstage at the Australian Big Day Out tour. We're told one part of the interview reads:

"An unholy peace may not be far away with his one time protege Manson." It's on the horizon. We were just in LA together, and we played practical jokes on each other so it's around the corner. We have our way's of communication through others, so...."

Also, in this weeks edition of Kerrang! magazine, is the following article about Twiggy Ramirez at Hollywood's Sunset Marquis Hotel, which by the way is where Trent Reznor stayed the entire time in LA earlier this month.

"BUFFOON OF THE WEEK
That will be marilyn manson bass-drone Twiggy Ramirez, who seems to have become a permanent fixture in the bar of H ollywood's Sunset Marquis Hotel. Stroll in any night of the week to the hotel's booze-splattered Whisky Bar and you'll see the frazzled four-stringer talking bollocks at every given opportunity, to the likes of Dave Navarro and Mini-Me actor Verne Troyer. Last time we were in we caught the man emerging from the 'john' with two young ladies. Crivens only knows what they were getting up to......."

Einsturzende Neubauten's New Video on Viva 2

The New Einsturzende Neubauten video, Sabrina, to the upcoming album "Silence is Sexy" has been airing on the German music channel Viva 2.

The video depicts a human-bull kind of beast in a gloomy, dismal public restroom, standing in front of the Mirror and putting on lipstick - first red then gold. Then Blixa walks in, uses the toilet, washes his hand and walks out. A strange piece of work, indeed.

"I also saw a Blixa Bargeld interview on Viva 2," explained M. Alexander, "but it was in Blixas lingo, so I didn't understand a thing."

"At the Bloodhound Gang show last night at the Roxy in Atlanta," explained Ash, "the bloodhound gang started off every song with a short cover of other bands songs, only lasting about 30 seconds." Around 3 songs into the set they played a small cover of WISH. "It wasn't bad," he added. "They had a good show, and they made fun of Limp Bizkit, comparing them to NSYNC."
This month's edition of UK magazine Metal Hammer comes with a short trailer for the unauthorized Marilyn Manson video biography "Demystifying The Devil" which was recently released in the UK. The clip contains several clips from the video, with droning background music.

A new MTV commercial is in circulation over on MTV2 where two kids about 15 old or so, were randomly talking about music and mentioned Nine Inch Nails.
Kid "A" said at one time something like, "but you like nine inch nails."
Kid B: yeah!...nails, man!
Kid A: Nine Inch Nails suck.
Kid B: No they don't.
Kid A: To like Nine Inch Nails you have to like Skinny Puppy.
Kid B: Yeah!...Skinny Puppy, man!

ellophane_god, an SLS viewer on his spring break in Las Vegas, was travelling in a cab with his family into the city, to the strip and happened to spot a very large Nine Inch Nails advertisement.

"When my dad started telling me to look in front of us," he explained. "I looked, and there was a HUGE lightboard advertising the nine inch nails show here on June 6." Asphyxia immediately noticed one huge mistake. "The NIN sign that they had on the board was backwards! The Ns pointed outside, like you were looking at it in a mirror. It was pretty funny."

An SLS viewer, who goes by the name The Angel of Death, said, "I went to see mudvein, dope and Slipknot at the Agora (in Cleveland) on the 13th." He continued, "before mudvein came out they played most of rage against the machine (self titled). Then while they were setting up the stage for dope, they played most of Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral."

Starfuckers Inc. Radio Single Promo Including Scans!!

Well today is a big Nine Inch Nails news day if I don't say so myself!

Gail, our new friend who is the producer of the radio program Fingers Metal Shop at WBAB (102.3 Long Island, New York), received the radio CD promo for Starfuckers Inc. in the mail yesterday. The radio release contains 3 different versions of the single, which are "Starsuckers, Inc.", "Star***kers, Inc." and "Starsuckers, Inc. (video version)".

Below are the three main differences for each edit as far as Gail can tell:

Starsuckers, Inc. (4:13)
Words like 'bitch' and 'suck' have been cut out and the chorus is "Starsuckers" (but you really have to listen for it). Also Trent screams "don't you" a few more times over the music .

Star***kers, Inc. (4:06)
All the nasty bits are cut out, more "don't yous" than the regular version and it has the Kiss "Shout It Out" Loud" ending.

Starsuckers, Inc. (video version) 4:18
It sounds like a different mix, non-MTV friendly words are cut out and the chorus is Starsuckers. Also, some of the lyrics have been changed: instead of "you're so vain, I bet you think this song is about you, don't you, don't you..." it is "all the pain and soon you'll make us forget all about you won't you, won't you..." Maybe MTV is not into the Carly Simon reference.

It also credits "chanting by the Buddha boys choir".

On the right is a thumbnail scan of the front and back cover, which you can click for a larger scan. Rather than retype all the credits on the radio promo, click here to read all liner notes of the single.

For those who are going to be writing us asking, we do not know when there will be a domestic release for this single. Trent Reznor did say last month that the new NIN single was to be a domestic release, but at this time things are still up in the air. More on this shortly...

NIN Fan Asked Trent Reznor About Marilyn Manson and Starfuckers, Inc Video Shoot!!

Nick, an SLS viewer, attended the Nine Inch Nails Minneapolis, Minnesota gig on Monday night, and afterwards, met up with Trent Reznor and talked for a bit. "He had a couple things to say about the whole Marilyn Manson ordeal," said Nick. "When I asked him if it was true that Marilyn and him were on good terms now, he kind of laughed to himself and said, "Oh yeah, that rumor's going around now" explained Nick. Trent went on to say that Marilyn Manson and him had "buried the hatchet." When Nick mentioned that he heard they had shot a video for "Starfuckers Inc.", Trent said something to the effect that there's going to be a "shit storm" happening in about two weeks..."

On a side note, Nick just wanted to say that Trent was one of the nicest people he's ever met. "He stayed to sign everyone's autograph, answered their questions, and listen to their stories, without any sort of 'attitude' about it," he explained. "It was a nice change from all the pompous rock stars I've become accustomed to meeting," added Nick.

NIN News About Lost Fragile Tracks, Starfuckers Video And More...

Thirden, an SLS viewer, got a head start and showed up at Monday's Minneapolis, Minnesota gig about twelve hours early! Although he arrived in time to be fifth in line, this gave him the opportunity to meet Leo Herrera, pet Trent's dog and meet up with an assortment of other teckies which he then asked a series of questions:

1. They did not conform nor deny Marilyn Manson's involvement in the Starfuckers Inc. video. Which sorta makes you think that it's true.

2. NIN ARE NOT slated to do The Edge or X Fest in Wisconsin, that was strictly a rumor.

3. The lost Fragile tracks WILL be released relatively soon (possibly within the year) and I'm told are very good.

4. I was interviewed after the show by a teckie who also had a camera. He was also the camera man onstage, and from the looks of it we can expect an additional NIN video documentary in the near future.

Free Times Interviewed Trent Reznor For Their Cover Story

Trent Reznor is the featured cover story on this weeks issue of Cleveland's Free Times magazine.

The four-page article, based around the history of Nine Inch Nails, includes quotes from Bart Koster, the former owner of Right Track Studios who hired Reznor. Mark O'Shea, former Nine Inch Nails tour manager. Lee Mars, chief audio engineer at Beachwood Studios and keyboard player for the first Nine Inch Nails headlining tours. Jason Pettigrew, senior editor of Alternative Press magazine, which has featured Reznor on its cover five times and not to mention quotes from Trent Reznor himself!

Among the interview, Trent comments a little bit about MTV's "Total Request Live" and briefly mentions D'Angelo's "Voodoo" album. Trent explained that D'Angelo made a lot of strong parts in his music industry rants and explained, "You're complimented much more on your business affairs than on your talent." Maybe Trent has taken a hint there with his latest interviews...?

On March 31st, Trent wrote a brief message on his official discussion board to inform fans to check out D'Angelo's "Voodoo" CD. This is what he wrote:

This is one of my favorite new artists. I encourage you to read the liner notes in the CD package. This is what I wish I had the guts to say - it is honest and I hope it pisses off those who it should. I just saw his show in N.O. and it was an inspiration. Trust me...

Columbus Dispatch Interviews NIN Drummer Jerome Dillon and Stage Manager Rocko Reedy

Found in the April 14th issue of Ohio's Columbus Dispatch is an interview with both the Nine Inch Nails drummer Jerome Dillon and stage manager Rocko Reedy.

Dillon answers questions about Fragile sales, Fragility V2.0 and more. Below is a blurb from stage manager Rocko Reedy, about his specific involvment with Fragility V2.0:

Stage manager Rocko Reedy said "Fragility v2.0" is the most ambitious tour he has been involved with. As stage manager, Reedy, a Clintonville resident, is responsible for moving "the skin of the concert" -- truckloads of lights, speakers, video screens and all other equipment -- to install in each city.

"There are so many things going on visually and audibly. It's the most ambitious thing I've done on an arena tour -- more than Kiss.

"Trent has surrounded himself with the most talented people I've ever worked with. With him, it's not just a matter of 'Turn it up, man. Let's kick out the jams!' There's so many nuances to his music that would be hard to achieve in the studio, let alone live, but we've got a really hot sound man, John Lemon."

Jerome Dillon Penned A Song For "Cecil B. Demented" Film

Not only has Trent Reznor been busy kicking off his first American tour in over five years, but so has Nine Inch Nails drummer Jerome Dillon with a side project! MTV News reports that Dillon has contributed a song to an upcoming John Waters film "Cecil B. Demented." Below is a blurb from their article:

Dillon, who launched a tour with NIN last night in Cleveland, penned a song called "Chow" that will run in the closing sequence of Waters' upcoming film, "Cecil B. Demented." The song was written with the intent that it will directly follow the Liberace song "Ciao" from the '70s advertising campaign, "Don't Say Bye, Say Ciao."

The drummer played all instruments on the song, which was co-written by Zoe Poledouris (who also composed the film's score with her father, Basil Poledouris).

You can read up on the rest of MTV's article here.

Robin Finck Interviewed By Beacon Journal

In the April 9th issue of the Beacon Journal is a new interview with Robin Finck (nine inch nails guitar, vocals, keyboards). In this interview, Finck talks about what it was like to be apart from NIN so long, Jerome Dillon's involvement with the Fragile, dynamics of the new set lists and much more... Below is a blurb from the online article:

`It had been several years since I had even seen Trent, much less been in the same room hammering away at March of the Pigs. But it felt right. It still feels right. When they decided to put together a band to go on the road again, they said, `Do you wanna come with us?' I really did want to go; my roots run deep there. More importantly, I didn't want somebody else to go.''

The new NIN -- with Reznor, Finck, Danny Lohner and Charlie Clouser playing a variety of instruments, and new addition Jerome Dillon playing drums -- has changed songs from The Fragile, as well as some of the band's classics.

``Some of the original NIN songs have a different feel to them because Jerome's involved,'' said Finck. ``The first day we got together and played through some of the original songs like Wish or Down in It was quite a charge. We were all rusty and hadn't done it forever. But we started hammering that stuff out, and it was still there. The thrill is still there.''

You can read the entire here on the official Beacon Journal website.

Editor In Chiefs of SPIN and Guitar World Magazine Comment On NIN's Fragile Sales

You really don't know how screwed the music industry is, until you read an article that opens your eyes. Found in the April 12th entertainment section of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is a topic about today's teen-fueled pop that is anything else but company programmed cash cows.

Titled "Once-sizzling bands grapple with fading fame," is an article about the latest records from The Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis and Nine Inch Nails. The article discusses problems, not with the records itself, but what's wrong with the today's pop oriented, label made craze that has some how changed the face of music before you even knew what hit you.

Directed more towards The Fragile, the article practically breaks down the issues that lead to NIN's highly anticipated- but wrongful Fragile free-fall to the bottom of the Billboard 200 with opinions from such editor in chiefs as SPIN magazine and Guitar World.

Below is a blurb from the article:

" 'The Fragile' was a difficult record," said Light of the album Spin chose as its 1999 Record of the Year. "It's a really good record, but it's an art piece that's out of step with the instant gratification and immediate emotional payoff that is so much a part of today's pop music climate."

"Radio is king at this moment in time," agreed Tolinski, who also described 'Fragile' as a complicated piece of art. "There's an ebb-and-flow in the music industry - it doesn't have to do with evil corporations - we're just in a very single-oriented period. You have to have a single."

Billy Corgan Comments About NIN's Fragility V2.0 Arena Tour

Featured in the April 11th edition of the Chicago Sun Times is a two-page interview with Billy Corgan, frontman of the Smashing Pumpkins. "It was an okay read," explained Tempista, "but he does make mention of NIN."

"Q. Are the Aragon (ballroom in Chicago) shows and the rest of this tour the end-all and be-all of what you're doing to support "Machina" or will you be coming back for a shed or arena tour?

A. There doesn't seem to be enough energy in the country to be looking at a big tour right now. A lot of people who are going out [on tour] are gonna die. Nine Inch Nails is doing this big arena tour and I don't see how they're going to do it. Right now we're viewing this as our only American tour. We're booked through Dec.-we will be touring the world-and we're sort of hoping that by that point these kids will wake up and say, 'I'm so uncool, I've been listening to N'Sync.'"

"That is the only mention of NIN," added Tempista, "but he does go on to mention how much he hates N'Sync and the music industry." Doesn't everyone lately?

Thanks a lot also to: roland.

Charlie Clouser Contributes to the Forthcoming SRC Album

Charlie Clouser provided mixing / production work for the forthcoming Snake River Conspiracy (SRC) album called "Sonic Jihad" (on Reprise Records).

Charlie mixed the song "Oh Well (album version)" and produced it together with Jason Slater. SRC is a San Francisco-based industrial duo \crossing the dark industrial sound of Nine Inch Nails with the pop sensibility of Garbage. SRC features multi-instrumentalist / producer Jason Slater (ex- Third Eye Blind) and is fronted by female singer Tobey. SRC's debut single "Vulcan" (already in stores) was voted "NME Single Of The Week".

Manson Posts In NIN.com Red Discussion Room

Marilyn Mason left a few messages while he was online yesterday and one of them happened to be wish of luck in the red room on the official NIN discussion board!

@7:26AM, subject: sorry folks
now I've become...one of the beautiful ones.

good luck on tour TR

MM

@8:50 AM, Subject: too much to hate too few to love

we know we belong together.

that's all I can say.

Fuck everyone else.
mm

Manson also posted a message on his own BBS using the same title or one he posted on the NIN board, "too many to hate, too few to love." His message is as follows:
Subject: too many to hate, too few to love
Article: the important ones belong together

the past is to learn from, not to dwell upon.

marilyn manson
the third and final beast

People seem to believe Manson's post on his BBS is about Trent Reznor, since Manson is now reported to be in the next Nine Inch Nails video "Starfuckers, Inc." Please read our April 10th headline "MTV Reports New Nine Inch Nails Video With Marilyn Manson!" for more info.)

Richard Patrick Mentions Trent Reznor On Yahoo Chat

Doug, an SLS viewer, caught up to a Yahoo chat with Richard Patrick of Filter the other day. "I went in hopin i could ask a question about NIN and although they didn't ask my question," he explained, "Richard did talk about Trent Reznor as usual!"

Host: When you were in NIN did you feel comfortable being a guitarist? or did you ever feel comfortable doing anything?

Patrick: Well Trent doesn't make you feel comfortable...he's a very psychotic individual sometimes.

Host: Why is that?

Patrick: I like him a lot but he's a very manipulative soul, especially to young people and I was young

Patrick: Since then he's become an alright guy from what I read, but I was the punching bag, the kick zone and abused constantly, mentally physically, on every level.

Patrick: And I think that screwed me up to a certain degree.

Host: How long did you stay with Nine Inch Nails?

Patrick: I was only in NIN from 1989 to 1993.

Host: Well that's a long time to be abused.

Patrick: Yeah but it was only for only one record, it took him five years to release the second one.

Patrick: I quit before that came out

Host: Okay. And then why did you...did you quit 'cause you couldn't take it anymore?

Patrick: I quit because I had a whole life and I could see it in front of me....I saw Filter as my new life.

"That's about it," explained Doug. "He also said that when he left NIN he thought his life was over." Richard also explained that in general all musicians are fucked up, "and he named off a list that included Trent," said Doug.

Real Detroit Weekly Interviews NIN Guitarist Robin Finck

In yesterday's issue of the Real Detroit Weekly is a new interview with Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck. In this interview Finck talks much about the '94 Self Destruct tour, injuries sustained during last year's Fragility v1.0 tour, and a little history on what he has been up to lately! Below is a snippet of the interview:

RD: The shows are very physical and intense. Any major injuries?

RF: No broken bones. I got a blow to the head and received six stitches in Germany. That wasn't fun. The guitar hit the top of my face and the welt completely split open. We were only two songs into the set. We finished the show and the next thing I knew I was being carried on a gurney into an ambulance. I was looking up at about five people. I assumed they were doctors, but they were all speaking German. I didn't like that all. Honestly though, it's never intentional. But sometimes we do get caught up in the moment. I don't know. It's like a tornado.

Robert Smith of The Cure Mentions Marilyn Manson

luis, an SLS viewer, recently went to "Monkeys to go" a punk store in california, and happen to pick up a free magazine with Robert Smith from the Cure on the cover. "I then read the interview with Robert Smith," he explained, "and there was a question, that said exactly this:

Question: CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE BAD ABOUT MARILYN MANSON?

Robert Smith: Well, i've met a lot of people in groups that are inspired by how we've done things. I'm always very flattered. It doesn't matter whether I like them or not. I know there are people who have admitted to being influenced by us that i feel are particularly awful, but I like anyone thats doing something. You see, I'm much less aggressive then I used to be. I'd rather people did something, then nothing.

Thanks a lot to: luis.

K-Rock Calms Nerves About Nine Inch Nails NY Madison Square Garden Gig

Salem, an SLS viewer, wrote in hope to calm NY NIN fans in hope to attend the Madison Square Garden on May 9th.

"I live in New York and was listening to the radio station 92.3 k-rock and the DJ will Pandarvis played the single "Judith" from the upcoming A Perfect Circle album around 5:30pm on Tuesday," commented Salem. The DJ explained that they were the first to play the first single, which DJ Kane then broke into a quick explanation during the show about listeners who called in worried about the yet to be officially announced NIN gig in NY.

"He mentioned that a lot of listeners were calling in worried because ticketmaster is apparently not confirming that NIN is performing at Madison Square Garden in New York on May 9 and will not confirm tickets go on sale for that show on Friday," said Salem. "And for some reason the people at Madison Square Garden are not confirming anything either." Kane said that New York NIN fans shouldn't worry-and that ticketmaster consist of "stupid people" and are just being dumb or naive and the reason that the people at MSG wont confirm anything might be because they are angry at K-Rock for jumping the gun and making the concert announcement early last week."

Win Free NIN Tickets

NIN fans that live in the Detroit, MI area and would love to attend the April 14th gig, check out your local radio station 89X (88.7). They are giving away "free spring break" NIN tickets, all on the floor. All you have to do is listen for a certain song, then call in. "It's pretty simple and they've been giving away tickets all week," explained Forrest. "Oh yeah," he remembered, "they also mentioned something about getting "intimate" with Trent and the band."

MTV Reports New Nine Inch Nails Video With Marilyn Manson!

Sitting on this story since March 31st, we have some exciting news for Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson fans!! Although this has not been confirmed through Nothing Records, MTV News announced we should expect more than just a massive 43-date Fragility v2.0 tour, which kicks of Wednesday, but also a new Nine Inch Nails video around the corner!

MTV News recently caught on to the weeklong radio announcements KROQ (106.7 FM, Los Angeles) has been airing consistently under their breaths. According to KROQ, the video is said to include none other than Marilyn Manson! Despite KROQ's random, but consistent blurbs about the unannounced video shoot, we hope to learn the facts soon.

Till an official Nothing Records announcement takes place, below is a snippet from the online article found on MTV.com with details about the possible shoot.

According to a KROQ staffer, Trent Reznor and company staged a shoot in Palmdale, California for the song "Starf***ers, Inc.," during which Manson appeared in drag.

The video's narrative reportedly sees Reznor pulling into a carnival in a limousine. He tries to win a prize for his date, who turns out to be Manson.

A spokesperson for Nothing Records declined to comment on the KROQ report.

The reported video pairing would apparently mark the end of a long-running Manson-Reznor feud that is said to have started when Reznor took offense at stories in Manson's tell-all autobiography, "The Long Hard Road Out Of Hell." Oddly enough, the "Starf***ers" track has been rumored to be directed toward Manson.

Could "Starfuckers, Inc." be the next NIN video/single, despite it's past Grammy nomination and b-side release to "The Day The World Went Away" single? Although it was never clear, we once thought "The Wretched" was to be the forthcoming video/single. At this point, the video news is anyone's guess, but ours...

To read the rest of the article please click here, which also mentions the Interscope Records issue Trent spoke of to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. (Read today's headline "Trent Reznor Speaks Up About New Nine Inch Nails Album, Fragility Tour, Interscope Records & More!" for more info.)

Detroit Free Press Interview With Trent Reznor!

The daily online edition of the Detroit Free Press, recently chatted with Trent Reznor about the music industry, The Fragile, tour buisness and among many other things. Below is a blurb from the article:

It is distressing, and I like to think there are people like me and you who demand depth and want to be moved by music and enlightened and intrigued, and want to be challenged by it. I can't go around believing we're part of the last generation that thought of music that way. The business has changed. It's not so much that people's taste has changed as it is the labels force-feeding them. I guess I can sit back and bitch about it, or make music that matters and hope people listen.

NIN A Supporter of VH1's Save The Music

Ed, an SLS viewer, was looking through the latest issue of Rolling Stone (the one with the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the cover), and happen to take notice an ad on page page 45. "It was for VH1's Save The Music campaign," he explained, "and it provided a 'thank you' of sorts to a long list of popular musicians that have contributed to the cause to keep music education in public schools. Eight lines down on the list is Nine Inch Nails."

Manson's Live Album and Autobiography Released In Russia!

ZZZombiE, the SLS viewer who runs the Russion Marilyn Manson site, wrote us earlier this month to explain Marilyn Manson's "Last Tour On Earth" was just released in Russia by BMG Records. "The packaging of the CD differs from the US version," he explained. "The booklet has only 4 pages, which is common for BMG to alter the packaging of CDs for distribution in Russia." He continued, "Original CDs are just too expensive for Russians to buy. That's why they make a cheaper version for sales in Russia."

Also Marilyn Manson's autobiography "Long Hard Road Out Of Hell" will be released in Russia by the end of May. He said, "It will be translated into Russian."

NIN in New AP Magazine

In the May 2000 issue of AP Magazine, The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails was voted number 7 AND 5 in the AP Readers Monthly Top 10 Poll.

Nine Inch Nails Gets A Howard Stern "OK"

Brian, an SLS viewer, was on his way to work today and happened to catch Howard Stern this morning on the radio. "I didn't have notepaper handy as I pulled into the parking lot at work this morning to catch all that Howard Stern said on his show about NIN," he explained.

A listener called into his show this morning to see if he could win Fragility Tour tickets on the show. "Howard explained that he wasn't giving any away," said Brian "and didn't plan to give away tickets to the show but said that his cohort Robin Quivers wanted to see the show." Stern also went on to say how cool their shows are in the use of visuals. "He said he almost could get a high from it without really being high," explained Brian, "But then he went on about how he thinks the latest album sucks and how he hopes they stick to old stuff..."

Brian is also a resident of Vermont who heard on his local radio station 99.9 "The Buzz" first advertise the Fragility show in Montreal, which they then aired a song by A Perfect Circle. "The DJ then came on the air to mention that they would be giving away tickets "before the box office" to callers who hear NIN played back to back," explained Brian.

Fragility V2.0 Postcard w/ Tour Dates & Village Voice NIN Advertisement

On the right is a high quality color post card scan Kraw received yesterday in the mail at work. The flip side of this scan features all 43 official North American Fragility V2.0, which is sponsored by M2 (MTV). Although the TBA dates, which were included on Wednesday's NIN press release, aren't included with the post card, we'll have to wait and see if they become anything... Kraw explained, "This looks almost exactly like the posters for the tour that were passed out at the A Perfect Circle show." This photo is also the background used on the official NIN tour website.

On the left is a scan of a full page advertisement (exactly like the post card, just in B&W) found in this week's Village Voice for the Madison Square Garden May 9th gig in NYC. Just like the NIN tickets everyone has been submitting vigorously the past few weeks, we are also accepting newspaper advertisement, photos, reviews of any kind related to Fragility V2.0. Scans, reviews, live photos all coming soon...

Thanks a lot also to: NINXPX for the news paper ad!

Danny Lohner Joined A Perfect Circle On Stage As Bass Player For A Song

It seems the A Perfect Circle gig last night at the Key Club in LA was full guest surprises and a special performance by NIN's bass player Danny Lohner! Thanks to Tushar, who attended the gig, explained the event in brief...

My name is Tushar (El Cholo) and I went to the Perfect Circle show tonight at the Key Club in West Hollywood. The tickets said 8:30, but the show didn't get started until about 9:45. No opening act - just A Perfect Circle. We were on the floor and quite close (it's not that big a place). They played almost all of their songs (considering that they don't have lots), and they sounded absolutely great - MUCH better than the last time I saw them, at Coachella. Before one song Maynard mentioned that there was a special guest - and you could sense the excitement - he said, "No, it's NOT David Hasselhoff, but Danny Lohner" ... Danny came on stage and played bass on one song. There were no other "surprises", even though most of the crowd was hoping for something else - there were LOTS of Nails' T-shirts in the crowd. But the bottom line is that A Perfect Circle sounded absolutely GREAT ... and put on an AWESOME show. Also: we did happen to spot some people at the show - Bobby Hewitt (drummer for the group Orgy), Jared Leto (who told me, when I once ran into him, that he's a HUGE fan of Tool), and Perry Farrell (he seemed to REALLY dig the music) .. All of these people were on the balcony for people with wristbands only. Anyhow, It was quite exciting, and I think worth the $12.
Kraw, who attended the final NIN dress rehearsal (and suffered a chipped tooth in the act), also attended the last night's APC gig at the Key Club! In brief, here's what he had to say nin-wise. He'll be submitting a more detailed review later.
I just got back from the perfect circle show at the key club. I'm sure you'll get others with the same news about the show. Danny Lohner came out and played a song. Don't know the name of the song but he played bass as the APC bassist played violin during the song. Maybe this will happen during the NIN tour as well. No sign of Trent or any other NIN people besides Danny, but I'm sure they were there. There was an after party but I was not invited. So I left, somebody was handing out fragility version 2.0 concert posters.
Expect all of our final NIN dress rehearsals shortly... among other news...

Nine Inch Nails Final Dress Rehearsal Review

Brian, an SLS viewer, was one of many lucky Nine Inch Nails fans who attended the "secret" Nine Inch Nails dress rehearsal last night in LA at the Grand Olympic Auditorium. This review contains the set list, so those who do not want to read the set list don't read the first paragraph.

Setlist (not exactly in correct order) Somewhat Damaged, Terrible Lie, March of the Pigs, Gave Up, The Big Come Down, Frail to the Wretched, LaMer to the Great Below to The Mark Has Been Made, Suck (which TR said he just played tonight cause he was waiting for a lighting problem to be fixed) Closer, Wish, Complication, Head Like a Hole, TDTWWA, Starfuckers Inc, Hurt. We heard them rehearsing Just Like You Imagined while standing waiting to get in, however, we heard from a reliable source close to the band that there will not be as many instrumentals on the tour.

The lighting was not complete and as said above, acted up once or twice. The LCD screens are amazing, so much better than the front screen. TR had some monitor problems, DL had earpiece problems, and RFs mic would not work at one point. Other than that, it was close to flawless. The band sounded great on most things, some of the new stuff like the big come down needs fine-tuning. TR was very talkative, saying how at one point how this was all for the fans, and how much they mean to him. He also did what he called his "mini Oscar ceremony" introducing the band and thanking the crew. All in all, he seemed to enjoy himself.

The fans really seemed to dig the show and nothing to say afterwards but "it was amazing," which it was. The very intimate setting with mostly hardcore fans made it really special. Everyone except TR came out after the performance to sign some autographs and talk with the fans that waited.

Sonor, whose friend also attened the private show, sent in a scan [on the right] of the Nine Inch Nails dress rehearsal T-shirt he picked up at the gig and his ticket stub.

Doors Manager Speaks about Manson's "Five To One" Doors Tribute Album Cover

Sonicnet interviewed Doors manager Danny Sugerman recently, which he chatted a bit about the different Door tracks that are to appear on the tribute album. Although Manson stated on March 24th his cover of "Five to One" won't appear on the tribute album. Sugerman told Sonicnet what the song sounds like with Doors guitarist Robbie Krieger, which sounds pretty bad-ass if you ask me!

Shock-rocker Marilyn Manson worked with Krieger on a cover of the heavy "Five to One" for the project.

"He just put his own stamp on it, with Trent Reznor[-style] production, real high-tech, industrial sound," Sugerman said. "It just pulverizes, really taking it someplace it's never been before, but using the trudging, warhorse beat that's been there from the beginning."

Check out Sonicnet's full story here for more information about the tribute album. Although Manson never gave an explanation why his cover won't appear on the tribute album, you can click here for the official article on marilynmanson.net. We hope to have an answer real soon about why this cover won't make the album.

Houston Radio Announcement

Emrys, an SLS viewer, wrote in about some early buzz radio commercials! "I've been hearing a commercial on the radio (the Buzz 107.5) about a big concert announcement on Tuesday," Emrys explained. "I have a feeling this will be the official announcement for the NIN show on the 22nd of May." If this is the Houston gig announcement, listen in for the sale date. If you haven't read yesterday's headline "Nine Inch Nails Houston, TX Venue Discovered!" the May 22nd gig will be at the Compaq Center.

Nine Inch Nails Houston, TX Venue Discovered!

Jacob Petrich, an SLS viewer, wrote us to today to explain that he discovered the Nine Inch Nails Houston venue Rollingstone Magazine did not list in their April 27th issue.

My ticket agent yesterday from Lone Star tickets, here in Houston, said Nine Inch Nails is to perform at the Compaq Center on May 22nd.
As the other two venues for the Dallas and Atlanta venues are discovered, which RS also listed, we hope to post the sale dates once they are announced. For information on these dates, please read yesterday's headline, "Dallas, Houston, Atlanta Tour Dates In Latest Rollingstone Including Trent Reznor Interview About Fragility V2.0."

Confirmed Montreal NIN Date

We mentioned on March 31st we were to learn the location of the Montreal gig, and thanks to a local radio station in Canada, the gig is now confirmed to be on April 30th at the Molson Centre. Neither the official Nine Inch Nails website nor ticketmaster has to list these dates, expect them to be officially announced early or late next week. (Please read our headline "Possible Nine Inch Nails Montreal Date Soon!!" for more info.)

Dallas, Houston, Atlanta Tour Dates In Latest Rollingstone Including Trent Reznor Interview About Fragility V2.0

The April 27th issue of Rollingstone with The Red Hot Chili Peppers as the lead story, should be hitting subscriber's doorsteps near you! In this new issues features a brand spaking new interview with Trent Reznor, which he discusses in brief about "Fragility V2.0."

Among the 3/4 page interview is a photo from New Zealand, in concert with Robin Finck and Trent Reznor. Also among the interivew Trent discusses a little how Pink Floyd's lighting designer Mark Brickman, who we didn't know the name of but mentioned on March 24th, ("NIN Rehearsing Two Weeks In LA, Bill Viola Working On Tour Back Drops") is working the light show. The magazine explained that Brickman will be doing something really new, which is to use LCD monitors as lights rather than image projectors!

Among this chalk-full interview Rollingstone has announced two new North American dates and confirmed our March 21st headline ("Nine Inch Nails To Tour Atlanta In May"). Although they didn't list the venues, NIN are to hit Dallas on May 23rd and Houston on May 22nd and (as we mentioned last week) Atlanta on May 20th with a to be announced gig on May 10th.

Not counting the Seattle, June 9th gig, which we mentioned yesterday ("Confirmed Seattle NIN Date at the Gorge 6/9"), there are only 15 more dates left to be announced, with 43 total according to Rollingstone!! There's a possibility Nine Inch Nails might perform at the Blockbuster Pavilion in Devore, CA in June as well. Here are a few key highlights from the interview that are worth mentioning...

Trent, who has been involved in every aspect of the planning of the tour, said "Every date we played (abroad) reminded me of how much I longed to be back touring in America."

"In the studio, I'm in Fine-art mode....I do purely what appeals to me and don't try to cater to an audience. In a live situation, I put myself in the seat of the fans."

He plans to play both "surprisingly fun to play" Fragile cuts like "The Day the World went Away" and "Even Deeper" as well as "a fair portion of older material."

"There's a good level of being unsure of what we're about to do. If I felt too confident, I'd be playing it safe. He warned about taking the Pink Floyd parallel too far; "It's not so much of a narrative theme as something like The Wall...the similarities are more in terms of pacing, climaxes, peaks and valleys-moments of restraint leading up to bigger moments of assault."

"(Reznor) isn't planning to pummel fans into submission, though. He predicts the high point of the shows will be the final tune. "We generally end with the song "Hurt", he said, "it's a very quiet, intimate way to close the show. That last minute, there's a feeling of release that you've actually survived the set, and a sense of connection that I see in people's eyes.""

"What makes it worthwhile," according to Reznor, "is not so much playing the right note, but seeing people interpret what I've given them and make it their own."

There is also a paragraph about NIN's member lineup, and a few details with A Perfect Circle.

"Fans will also get their first taste of Reznor's friends A Perfect Circle, led by Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan and one-time NIN guitarist-tech Billy Howerdel. Keenan describes the music as "more accessible than things I've done in the past. There's a lot more introspection and melody. I have high hopes for it. But there's no competing with Nails. Their show is going to be devastating."

Rollingstone also listed NIN's recent setlist, with no other explanation given: "Head Like a Hole," "Terrible Lie," "Sin," "Piggy," "March of the Pigs," "The Frail," "The Wretched," "Gave Up," "Into The Void," "Get Down, Make Love," "No, You Don't," "Even Deeper," "Wish". Encores are: "Starfuckers," "Closer," "Hurt"

Thanks a lot to: Helen.

Fragility Ticketmaster Typo!

Splinter, an SLS viewer, picked up her Grand Rapids, Michigan Nine Inch Nails tickets from her boyfriend yesterday only to discover a horrifying typo! "When the tickets arrived," she explained, "he emailed me a photo of them." Imagine to her surprise when she read them: FAGILITY V2.0 TOUR. How many pairs of eyes did these tickets have to cross, and no one noticed that the freak'n tour name was spelled wrong? This is the first we've seen this typo thankfully, but there could be others out there with the same mistake.

Coming Soon

We hope to announce some exclusive nin video news soon, among many other things... exciting times... stay tuned...
