Killing Joke Information

I asked around and I got some interesting news for you all about this band, Killing Joke (KJ). I have yet to physically see this remix album, but I recently learned that it is an import, so that explains it's unkown "where abouts". Full detailes below...

Information about an older Democracy remix release :

There was a Democracy single that was released back in 96 that was remixed by Charlie Clouser and Dave "Rave" Ogilvie. (Clouser of NIN & Ogilvie of Skinny Puppy ) However, their remix wasn't credited to NIN, it was credited only to Clouser and Ogilvie.

So maybe this remix is one of two things:

1) it's the Clouser and Ogilvie mix, renamed a NIN mix in order to sell albums or
2) an unreleased remix done by Trent & company.

The only way to tell would be to hear the two remixes. (which the "NIN Remix" will be uploaded this weekend at SLS NIN News) So those who have heard the Ogilvie & Clouser mix on the single, please report to SLS what is what, when everything is uploaded...

As for Killing Joke background:

They've been around since the late 70s and have been a huge influence on many, many industrial bands since then. Over the years, members have included Youth (who remixed a PWEI track on Two Fingers My Friends) and Martin Atkins (who provided drums on Wish and Gave Up). Wardance contains remixes of songs from throughout Killing Joke's history, so it would probably be a good starter for anyone interested in getting into them.

I will most likely have the audio to Democracy's NIN Remix this weekend, if not sooner... My source stepped out for a few days and I didn't catch him quick enough for him to send the audio... so check back around Sunday for the audio of Democracy.

Trent Producing Adam Ant?

I thought I would let everyone know about this rumour before hand if this ever becomes something in the future...

An unofficial Adam Ant website is speculating that he is building a recording studio in his new home and is planning to work with Trent Reznor. Trent is to be producing Adam's next album. However, there are only rumours and no confirmation has been made. More info to follow!

You can check out the source under the "Adam Finally Weds" headline here.

Thanks a lot to: smashed up sanity.

As you all can see, SLS has a new graphic for the old news page. We are sectioning all the old news in months... Every 2 weeks were putting older news in each catagory so that this page can load at it's highest peak... thanks for all the suggestions everyone...

Killing Joke's Democracy (NIN Remix)

Amazingly Nine Inch Nails has just contributed a remix track off the new Killing Joke Remix album called "War Dance". Below are the FULL details along with scans. Were working on getting the NIN's Democracy on the net in MP3 and Streamed Real Audio for you all by the end of the night.

Here's some news on this in a German Mag:

German Music Magazine "ZILLO" has a report about Killing Joke in their new issue. There they are talking about an upcoming (without any date) new remix-album, called "War Dance". Further they are writing that Trent Reznor will contribute a "Trance Remix" of the Track "Democracy" for that one.

Well I've given a ring to all my local record stores and they all do not carry this single. But the remix single is already out so this is no promo. This is the real thing, just start asking around... (click image for larger scan)

Chris Vrenna's Latest

Here's some more information following Chris Vrenna's work...

From CMJ New Music Report (not to be confused with "cmj new music monthly" - "new music report" is a magazine sent weekly to record companies and college radio stations) ::

"Former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna is keeping busy. Vrenna programmed the upcoming Hole album and a Green Day track for the Godzilla soundtrack. In addition, Vrenna performs on one track of Seal's upcoming album, and he also produced the upcoming Rasputina album, "How We Quit The Forest." His upcoming projects include producing the new Underwater record for Risk Records.

Thanks to: xott.

Two Concert Reviewed

I reported on April 16th that TWO was going to play in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here's some thoughts of the April 25th concert from one of the participants. For more information on this concert, please write to the credited source. All I can say about the "rumor" he states along with his slight review, is that it most likely won't happen...

That concert that Two performed at was rather interesting.... Two performed 5 songs off their Album and bascially had the place rocking and chanting, they then signed some autographs, great Guys.

My friend was working security and he said that Stabbing Westward was talking allot about NIN, well specifically Trent. He wasnt sure but he mentioned something about the lead singer wanting to work with trent.....that would be a fairly good match.

When new future NIN concerts approach, I'd love to hear from everyone on how they went.

Thanks to: god4rage.

Mardi Gras Follow-Up

I havn't had a chance to see the Mardi Gras interview that air yesterday, I will tomorrow with pictures uploaded. It was reported that Trent was not on the interview or seen through out the parade.

I'm sorry for the delay today, even though there was no REAL news to report. I was trying to confirm a rumor on a "new" release date for 'Fragile' for everyone. I'll have the answer tomorrow if it's true. If it's proven to be false, I won't present the rumor.

I'm working on having our SLS domain address open this week. We have a lot of work a head of us and SLS's new home will be worked on just as hard as SLS NIN News. By the way. SLS NIN News will stay at this location, so you don't have to adjust your bookmarks for the news. We will work just as hard as ever before with ALL the latest in everything. Thanks for the support.

Mardi Gras Interview, Sunday

More Mardi Gras interviews which could feature scenes from this year's parade, including Trent? Those who have this channel please read...

I was just watching the channel "E (Entertainment Television)" and I saw a preview for a show on Sunday, April 26th at 9:00 PM. The show is called "Wild on Mardi Gras". During the preview they showed a brief 2 second clip of Harry Connick Jr. being interviewed! So, since I heard that Trent was possibly on Connick's float, maybe we will finally be able to catch a glimps of Trent.

Tomorrow I will be out all day celebrating my birthday, so I won't be able to catch this interview. I don't even have this channel, so those who do and have capabilities of taking screen shots off their TV. Please watch this and do us all a favor and snag some screen shots of any, if any of the scenes off Connick's float. I'll do the best of what I can to tape this show at another location.

Thanks a lot to: magicow.

Not much of news today... but I will be gone all day tomorrow, Sunday. I have no idea when I'll be back, BUT when I do and of what new news I have. I'll have it up ASAP.

Nothing Records/Interscope News

I have conections now with Interscope and Nothing Records. So I will be able to report faster news as of nothing/interscope releases... Below is the latest...

The release of the new Meat Beat Manifesto album, "Actual Sounds and Voices" has been delayed until the fall (previous reports said it was coming out in may).

The Skinny Puppy tribute "Hymns of the Worlock" that is coming out on Cleopatra in may is not the album that has the Adrian Sherwood and Chris Vrenna remixes on it, it is an album composed of covers of SP songs. The Vrenna and Sherwood remixes (along with remixes by other famous artists.. I don't know who.. it's being kept confidential) are going to be on the remix disc issued by Nettwerk, which will probably not be out until at least the fall.

And finally, there is a solo album, "the escapist," by Phil Western coming out next week on Map Records. Western (a member of Download) played keyboards on Two's "Voyeurs". The album will be mostly experimental/techno stuff.

Since Trent keeps his release dates confidential... it may be hard to squeeze information... we will have the latest as it comes in...

Nine Inch Nails Remains an Influential Band

This in from Seattle Times, which features influences my a few bands...

Influence is a funny thing. Celine Dion may be the most listened-to voice in the world right now, but her music has had almost no effect on the prevailing tides in popular music. Nine Inch Nails, by contrast, remains essentially a cult act, yet its work has shaped and inspired the sound of countless rock acts, from Marilyn Manson to Filter.

How has NIN - or its mastermind, Trent Reznor - come to exert such influence? No doubt some of it has to do with his lyrics, for his evocation of alienation, anger and self-loathing has an obvious and immediate appeal for angst-ridden adolescents (and adults). Reznor's greatest genius, however, is musical. Unlike a lot of rock songwriters, Reznor understands the importance of pacing and structure in his music, and as such packs enough drama and dynamism into his work to make each single feel as expansive as a symphony.

Naturally, Reznor's approach has drawn its share of imitators, but most grasp only the most general outlines of his sound. Take, for example, the Voyeurs' album "Two" (Nothing/Interscope).

Although Reznor is given "executive producer" credit for the disc, the project is largely the work of former Judas Priest front man Rob Halford. Not that it sounds much like Halford's earlier work; apart from some distortion-fattened guitar, there's nothing the least bit metal about the music. Instead, its thrumming synths and mechanized beats owe more to the light industrial sound of NIN's first album, "Pretty Hate Machine."

That strategy works well enough when the arrangements balance relentless propulsion against sudden shifts in volume and intensity, a device that enlivens the likes of "Leave Me Alone" and "I Am a Pig." But as much as Reznor's sonic strategies may color the shape and feel of these tracks, the music itself belongs to Halford and co-writers John Lowery and Bob Marlette. And because that team lacks Reznor's melodic imagination, songs like "Hey Sha La" and "If" seem simplistic when compared with the average NIN tune.

Stabbing Westward, by contrast, has no trouble coming up with interesting and involved melodies. In fact, the writing on "Darkest Days" (Columbia) can be downright exhilarating. From the tightly structured soundstorm of "Everything I Touch" to the slow-building intensity of "Desperate Now," the album is almost an aural amusement park, offering thrill after thrill for daring listeners.

It isn't just that the band knows how to put a song through its paces. As much as "Drugstore" or "Haunting Me" benefit from the careful manipulation of texture and dynamics, what ultimately makes these tunes kick are the hooks, which are varied and strong enough to sustain a half-dozen singles. On a strictly melodic level, "Darkest Days" is delightfully addictive.

Where the group runs into trouble is on the lyrical front. Although writers Christopher Hall and Andy Kubiszewski are not afraid of staring into the abyss, they have yet to figure how to make that view compelling. It's one thing, after all, to be lonely and miserable, quite another to pull poetry from the experience. And until Stabbing Westward can find words that match the majesty of its music, it will continue to be seen as just another NIN imitator.

News of Fink on G n' R

Some more information about Fink with G n' R from Mtv News. Not much with Fink , but some information on what's going on with G n' R which Fink and Vrenna are in...

If all goes according to the current plan -- which is not a sure bet in the world of Guns n' Roses -- Axl Rose will be going into the studio with with Killing Joke bassist Youth, the co-producer of The Verve's "Urban Hymns."

A spokesperson for Geffen would neither confirm nor deny the story, but insiders say that Youth is the flavor of the month and is expected to record the band this summer. Previous negotiations have taken place with Moby and Mike Clink.

Guns n' Roses these days (probably) are Axl Rose, lead guitarist Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails), Axl buddy guitarist Paul Huge, off-and-on former GnR keyboardist Dizzy Reed, and most likely drummer Josh Freese. There may even be a chance that Tommy Stinson will lay down some bass tracks. Stinson, formerly of the Replacements, has adamantly denied to press sources his ongoing involvement in the project but insiders confirm he's been hanging out in the studio.

Youth and the band are still months away from recording, however. Rose and cohorts are reportedly still in writing mode with no completed songs at this time.

Killing Joke reformed as a trio in 1994 after a long hiatus and have released new two records, "Pandemonium" and "Democracy." But while the band is primarily known as industrial, goth-oriented quasi-metal band, Youth (born Martin Glover Youth) has a more diverse background. He's worked on projects with Fine Young Cannibals, James, Bananarama, Crowded House, The Orb, Polly Jean Harvey, Nick Cave and U2.

The Geffen spokesperson says while it's possible a new Guns n' Roses album will be released this year, it's highly unlikely.

Tori Speaks of Trent

In the recent New York Post, Friday April 17, 1998 addition. Tori speaks of Trent along with some other good bands... you can read the full report here.

You know, I don't read the music press, and I don't feel competitive with these women. I feel inspired when the music is good, but no more inspired than when Maynard [Tool's Maynard James Keenan] does something good or when Trent [Nine Inch Nail's Trent Reznor] does something that's inspiring. It's not about gender, it's about being a good musician. I like the kind of support that musicians have when you're good and you keep striving; you don't need to feel like somebody else is taking away your place. At the same time, Kate Bush did come before me, Joni [Mitchell] did come before me; I wouldn't be here without the pounding on the door that they did, and I can honor that. Some of the artists coming up seem to understand that, and some seem to fight it. One thing I had to learn was that you respect the ones that have come before you because, let's be brutally fair here, it opens doors.

Thanks to: sline.

Most Influential Rocker: Trent Reznor

Hit Parader had a Reader's Survery a while back and the results were given in the latest isue on page 47. With the many bands listed, Trent Reznor won "Most Influential Rocker". Below is the report along with a picture that came in the magazine... (click image for a larger scan)

sing damn it!All you really need to know about Trent Reznor to understand his impact on the rock world is this; the guy releases one song in the last year, The Perfect Drug, which appeared on the soundtrack to David Lynch's highly controversial movie Lost Highway, and wins every award in sight... hands down! Though has remained silent for much of the lsat three years (either through choice or through supposed new battles with his record label), there's little doubt that Nine Inch Nails' leader still ranks as the most influential rocker in the world. In word, action and deed, Reznor remains hard rock's Renaissance man- the master of all he surverys. It now appears that Reznor is still crrently hard at work completing NIN's next disc, which hopefully will emerge before 1998 draws to a close. That is of course, if he settles his fast-growing differences with a number of parties who wish to seek some sort of control over Reznor's ever-creative output.

"People may very well hate the new album," he said. "In fact I may be a little disappointed if they don't. It's very experimental and it's brought together elemts that some people may think don't belong together."

Record Delays hit Nothing

Like every issue in Hit Parader there's something new that just doesn't fit... Hit Parader states that Trent is having battles with his Record label. It may very well be... but HP is rarely ever right about things such as these...

what

the fuck? Rumors continue to abound that the always-controversial Trent Reznor continues to do battle with forces at his record label over the contents of the next Nine Inch Nails disc. According to well-placed sources, Reznor has basically given the label a "love it or leave it" dictum, stating that he maintains total artisic control over the contents of every NIN album. Hopefully this internal matter will be resolved soon and this long-delayed and oft-anticipated disc will finally see the light of day.

Take it as you will, but till HP can get the title of Trent's new album correct.. I may respect them more...

Puzzling Times of Trent Reznor

trent There's another article in Hit Parader that just basically talks about nothing. This is only an article not an interview by the way. HP just discusses Trent's soon to be released new NIN album. You can read the full report I typed up today here: Puzzling Times

Weathermen Records recieved 2 rarely new NIN shirts a few weeks ago. Here's the following information that was sent to me...

The shirts are currently available and can be viewed at www.theweathermen.com.

Thanks to: Weathermen Records.

As you can see. SLS has a new look. I'm still not quite finished with it, but I'll be working on my "old news" section tomorrow and the next day so I can put ALL last months news in there to speed this place up a bit...

Special thanks again to Jared Boyer for his amazing talent in graphic arts. Jared Boyer is SLS's graphic artist and does a hell of a job at it... You can view his art web web site at: Mind Control.

I took down my news letter because I couldn't keep up with it. It was to much for me and I had reached over a thousand emails and that was WAY to much for me to handle... sorry.

I would have updated yesterday with news but I ran out of time, since I've been working all weekend on SLS's design. If you ever see a problem with the format on SLS I am most likely working on it. Since it's recent design, I'm constantly moving graphics around to fit it's design...

New Blood Magazine (Full Details)

With the recent controversy on the so called interview with Trent Reznor... We have details on what this magazine is and how it came about to the net. Thanks to Harkness (the person who has the interview on his site, here) for sending us the details on how he came across this interview...

To tell you about it, the interview was sent to me by a guy named Rob Vucinich (rvucinich@hotmail.com) and is the first and only interview I have exclusivly gotten from someone. Initially, he sent me an e-mail saying he had the interview and would send me a transcribed copy of it ASAP.

About a week and a half later I get the e-mail with the interview, but asking me to hold onto the interview until he had the article to go with it, so I did hold onto it for several days before finally sending out the interview and article to the subscribers of my mailing list. About three days later I wrote asking what was going on. Thus begins the interesting tale.

It seems that New Blood Magazine is (was) a really tiny orginization and this was to be their first issue. It was gonna be all B&W, with a color paper cover of trent. When I say was, i mean it's no longer around. Apparently, New Blood had been hanging on by it's fingernails from the start, and the TR interview was supposed to save them, but it didn't. Last time I talked to Rob, he said I could still use the interview, but he wouldn't be sending along the article or sound files he had origionally promised. He's now looking into the prospect of making a NIN interview CD out of his tape. If ya want to talk to him, you can e-mail him at RVucinich@hotmail.com.

I have emailed Rob Vucinich about this subject and hopefully we'll hear from him soon. I don't know what to believe untill I actually see the article... so, we'll just have to wait.

Thanks a lot to: harkness .

I'm going to be out tonight. If I don't come back, I'll update as soon as I'm home.

Sorry to those who have slow connection... I'll be adding a lot of the old news to my "old news" page located at the bottom this weekend.

Victory Issues

There was a mention of NIN's Victory remix in this letter, but even though the majority of this is Puffy news it is interesting news on his Victory video and the original Victory cut from his "No Way Out" album...

Serious Pictures Inc., which is doing business as Black Dog Films, is suing Bad Boy Entertainment Inc. and Arista Records over the Puff Daddy video "Victory." The suit, which was filed on Tuesday (April 14) in Los Angeles Superior Court, lists such complains as breach of contract, unjust enrichment, account stated, and fraud.

Black Dog alleges that on Feb. 27, the Bad Boy label, owned by Puff Daddy (aka Sean "Puffy" Combs), entered into a written contract with them to produce and deliver a video for the song "Victory," off of the rapper's current album No Way Out, which was released in July of 1997 on Bad Boy/ Arista. In doing so, the film company says that the contract requires Bad Boy to pay $1,208,000 to Black Dog on the following schedule: "50 percent upon execution of the contract; 25 percent after completion of the principal photography; and 25 percent upon Bad Boy's receipt of the footage, provided that [Black Dog] shall deliver the master, all requisite releases/ waivers, and all other delivery elements to [Bad Boy]... In addition, Bad Boy is obligated to pay all approved cost overages incurred by Black Dog."

Shortly before shooting began, the film company was told that actors Dennis Hopper and Danny DeVito had agreed to appear in the video at Bad Boy's request, for which Bad Boy orally agreed to obtain releases from both, which they later failed to do. In addition, Bad Boy failed to make the third payment of the contract, although Arista made the first two on behalf of the subsidiary label, according to Black Dog.

The film company further alleges that Bad Boy told Black Dog that they would make the final 25 percent payment of $302,000 on two separate occasions, but never did. Black Dog also says that Bad Boy additionally owes them $156,920 for approved cost overages, which was requested at a later time along with the other monies owed, for a total of $458,920, but says that Bad Boy refused to pay.

As previously reported in
allstar, the video for "Victory" debuted on various music cable stations in mid-March, and also features an appearance by Busta Rhymes. Meanwhile, the Trent Reznor and Goldie remixes of "Victory" are due on Friday (April 17) as a maxi- single.

It does report that the single is to be released tomorrow, BUT shipments usually arrive in stores on Tuesdays... When my original CD arrives, I'll have scans of the disc along with Audio, etc. for people with web sites...

Two Tours

Two touring at this location...

Two will be playing at "Our Big Concert 2", on April 25 in Las Vegas. Other bands playing include Crystal Method, Offspring, Stabbing Westward, Bad Religion, Powerman 5000, and Unwritten Law.

I have no comment on this, but those who live near here should look into this. I assume he will be... but let me know how the concert was...

NIN Laser Show (Full Details)

Here is detailed information about the "NIN Laser Shows" that I reported on my April 6th update. This is Xott had to say of his experience...

I attended the Nine Inch Nails laser show at the Pacific Science Centre in Seattle, WA last weekend. The show, put on by a company called Laser Fantasy, Inc. was an expanded version of their old NiN/Ministry laser show (which ran a couple years back), and many of the songs were the same except for the addition of a few like "Hurt" and "Mr. Self Destruct" (sadly, the "A Warm Place" intro from the old show was removed).

Also, Aphrodite's Perfect Drug remix (which had been included in the "Electrolyte" laser show) was added. It was a very good show, all-in-all, and the loudness of the music through their new sound system rivals that of even a NiN concert. The set list was something like this (i might be a little off on the order, but these were all the songs played): Mr. Self Destruct, Last, Terrible Lie, Aphrodite's TPD Remix, Hurt, March Of The Pigs, Burn, Head Like A Hole, and Closer. Then Supernaut and Fist Fuck were the two encores. I applaud Laser Fantasy for including some rare songs like "Supernaut" and the Aphrodite mix. Laser Fantasy plays their laser shows in many major cities around the country, including Portland, Denver, Phoenix, Des Moines, Boston, Houston, Ft. Myers, Philadelphia, Hartford, and more. To see where the NiN show is playing, check out
www.laserfantasy.com (many of the schedules listed on this site are outdated, so be sure to call the number listed for your city to get current listings).

More on Black Bomb

Here's some news on the Black Bomb issue and more... I will check out this issue when I come across it this weekend, if I do... What is below isn't exact quotes from the issue, but once I have my copy... I'll scan in the full report...

In MIXMAG.. there was a feature on Josh Wink... they askedhim about trent's involvemnt on Black Bomb and he stated that as producer(wink)..he knew he could do music without vocals, but wanted to challenge himself by putting lyrics to his music. Thats where trent comes in....... thats the end of that trrent sighting

In a zine called LOLLIPOP... rob halford is asked about trent. He repeats his mardi gras story of how they met. When asked about how far was trent involved in the making of Two.. rob aswers by stating that the songs they had written were pretty simple and that trent improved them by juicing them up anb extra 80%.. that was the figure rob gave...

You can catch my down loads of Black Bomb, Scans, Lyrics on my March 23rd and 21st update...

Was it Really Trent?

Just to let you all know. That as of now I don't know if this is real, the interview. It was sent to me and it made a lot of sense at the time, but here is an interesting fact that was brought to my attention today about the "interview" that I reported yesterday that Trent speaks in...

T : Well, I had sent out tapes to a couple of labels that I liked, and got them all back with great reviews, but my first choice was always TVT, not because it was TVT, but because of what TVT had : Wax Trax records. I mean, pretty much all the industrial groups were with Wax Trax at the time, and I thought that by signing with TVT, i would get experienced industrial producers, but the main draw was the idea that I'd be able to work with all these great industrial icons.

------

well, this is bullshit. waxtrax, until 1993, was its own entity and was owned in NO way shape or form by TVT. if you look at any waxtrax cd printed before 92 (when waxtrax folded), there is no tvt logo (some older ones that have since been reprinted, like early kmfdm albums, had the tvt logo added in 93 when tvt bought out waxtrax). trent signed with tvt back in 87 or so, well before tvt bought out waxtrax. in fact, rumor has it, trent sent a demo to waxtrax when he was trying to get signed, and they rejected it. if they had signed trent, waxtrax would still be self-sufficient today. instead, it is owned by the money-grubbing bastards at tvt who dick over old school waxtrax signees like sister machine gun. also, the thing about "working with great industrial prooducers" is bullshit because waxtrax didn't have any producers who worked exclusively for their label. in fact, trent had one of the best industrial producers around (jim thirlwell, aka foetus, who did remixes on fdts and fixed) produce the demos that he actually sent out to the labels.

another interesting fact is that the money that tvt got from interscope when they bought trent's rights in 93 is the money that tvt used to buy waxtrax.

Anyways... I will be looking into this...

Thanks a lot to: mark.

New Fragile News

A new interview called "New Blood Magazine: Up to Speed with Trent Reznor" was released February 98. This is the latest news that we have of NIN, if its real. To read the full interview click Up to Speed With Trent Reznor.

This interview talks about Trent's latest work such as:

Nine Inch Nails/Fragile, Nothing Records.com, Closure, I'm Afraid of Americans, The Crow, Quake 1 and 2, Lost Highway/The Perfect Drug, Tape Worm, Marilyn Manson's new work, Chris Vrenna, Touring, Rob Halford, Producing and much, much more...

Though this interview speaks nothing of Trent's latest work such as Black Bomb and Victory, it would have to be that Trent was keeping this under wraps or wasn't positive on this work till recently... I will be looking for this magazine in my back issue stores just to see if there are any new images- if any...

Thanks to: harkness< /A> for typing up this interview and to tnn for bringing this to my attention.

I trashed my new scans from today's news. They went screwy and it would take another hour to scan them in correctly... So I'm going to wait for my next update. Anyhow, todays news article will do nicely.

SLS domian name will be opening this month with lots of surprises... stay tuned for the release date. But SLS NIN News will still be located here... it will just be linked from the our domain site.

Thank you all for making SLS NIN News your number one news source. We appreciate ALL the help you have been giving us and drop me a line, I love to talk nin.

Tori at Yahoo

Yesterday Tori Amos was a chat guest at Yahoo, where she was talking about her latest work. Since Trent did back up vocals on "Past the Mission" off "Under the pink" album, maybe Trent would be mentioned in further new work with Tori or vice versa... Like believed, Trent was asked about and this is what she had to say said...tori

Any plans on working with Trent Reznor in the future?

Trent and I are doing our own seperate things. We have our own worlds. And, yet I think his world has developed in a wonderful way... and I'm very proud of him.

So those rumors that are going around about Tori Amos contributing vocals to the Fragile aren't ture.

12 Angry VJ's

vj angry Yesterdays "12 Angry Viewers" on Mtv was a little different. For this week instead of having viewers review the randomly picked videos. Mtv guest stars the original VJ's when Mtv first began.

Each VJ has picked one video from their Era and will be voting on everyone's one picked choice for this one week and this week only to single out the greates music video in the Mtv's vault. VJ's such as: Kennedy, Doctor Dre, Adam Curry, Mark Goodman, Riki Rachtman, Downtown Julie Brown, Alan Hunter, Lewis Largent, J.J. Jackson, Nina Blackwood and others were on yesterdays show...

Here were the results... (click the links for pictures)

the

count Marth Quin chose "jump" by Van Halen and won 57 votes.

J.J. Jackson chose "vienna" by Ultravox Aand won the total of 33 votes.

Lewis Largent chose "closer" by Nine Inch Nails and won the total of 50.

Here are the responses to Closer by each of the viewers. (click the links for pictures)

Martha: I give that video a one. I don't approve at all of any kind of animal explortation. Even if you're trying to prove how counter culture it is. At least no animals were hurt!? What do you call those two slabs of beef hanging up behind him?!

Adam: The bomb, digity- five

Julie: I think we should give it a three. You know that came out when America was trying to sell the other white meat. And I think that realy helped with that pig head. I actually like it because its a really sick kind of like twisted video. I think its actually done pretty good.

Nina: I was going to give it a four for artist measure, but no- Martha speaking of the animals, uh- two.

Jackson: I give it a five as well. Lewis's pick is excellent it really captures the visual. It's a sick video, no doubt about it, but tell me this. You couldn't take your eyes off it, now could you?

Hunter : I give it a big five. I love Nine Inch Nails. It was weird, it was sick, it made my skin crawl!!

Kennedy: Perhaps one of the greatest videos shown on this channel. I'm going to have to give it a five.

Lewis: Word up my sister. I give it a five abviously. Love you guys.

Ed: I like it, I give it a four, because the monkey was real cool and it made me hungry. Bang'n, four. I like it.

Dre: It had mans best friends head up there. Which I had a little dog that looked just like that. And I want to do the same thing and spin it's head around, because it kept eating my shoe. So I give it a five. Plus It had pork in it and I'm Muslim. So a five.

Mark: Five absolutly. Trent is awsome. Great video and I've always been a sucker for all those sappy love songs.

Rick: If man was not ment to eat cow, he wouldn't have made meat. So that was the good message I felt out of this video. So with the mention of beastiality... It's always good, so I give it a five.

They only showed 30 second clips of each of the videos... Though Van Halen's "jump" won this selection, we know that Closer was the better video- by far...

Thanks to: crystal, avig, fireangel for letting me know and eve ryone else who I forgot.

New info on Mardi Gras

Though this is an old topic, it's new news on this issue... I will be working my ass off to get an image of Trent at the parade... below is confirmed information that Trent was at the festival...

I was watching T.V. today (Monday, April 13) at 1:00 EST when a special aired on the Canadian television station "BRAVO!" on New Orleans. It was a travel show. Anyhow they were talking about Anne Rice and stuff and then they talked about the Orpheus parade and showed some clips of this year's float. They showed a clear picture of Trent wearing a mask that was a star and a blue and aqua green blotted robe. I could tell it was him by his hair and his nose and height. He was throwing beads into the crowd. If you can see this episode of "Arts and Minds" you can snag yourself a really good pic of Trent dressed, dare I say it, "like an idiot" (well he looked like he was having a good time yelling at the crowd and smiling chucking bead necklaces left right and centre... oh well we all know Trent's weakness is alcohol)

I've already checked the listings at Bravo's official web-site and it doesn't look good. They already aired the special twice on April 11 and 13th. If there are any new showings, I will be sure to tape it and capture some images. Till then.... I'll be keeping a close eye if anything turns up.

Thanks a lot to: stanley.

Two off Ozzfest

Though this contains no NIN news... I thought I would post this for your TWO fans...

Rob Halford's band Two won't be appearing on Ozzfest after all. Two's official website confirms the news with no explanation for the cancellation, but a post on AOL from a management representative says the band is booked in Europe from approximately June 20 to July 15 and cannot get back in time for the July 3 Ozzfest starting date. The band had been scheduled to headline the second stage. Two are scheduled to begin rehearsing today (April 13) in Halford's adopted hometown of Tempe, Arizona. Their first live appearances will be an in-store performance at a Tempe record store April 22 and a show at a Tempe club called Boston's April 23. Meanwhile, David Lee Roth's official website has named Two guitarist/co-writer John Lowery as a full-fledged member of the David Lee Roth Band. Apparently this isn't expected to interfere with his duties in Two. Lowery appears on the two new Roth tracks King of the Hill and Slam Dunk.

Thanks to: saiNT, matt and thomas.

I've been having some real HTML problems lately. My computer reads things differently then one I've been posting. Sorry for the long delay from last night.

I have a lot to do on SLS. We have some new graphics by Jared Boyer (our graphic artist) I should have those uploaded shortly and some other thigs as well

NIN on 1515 (Full Details)

All weekend Mtv has been airing reports of the recent cancelation of lollapalooza on "1515" with interview clips and performaces by many bands such as, Tool, NIN, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and more. Mtv online has 2 nin snippets from the 91 tour: here (trent throwing his mic stand while singing to SIN) and here (trent/patrick interview)

Here are some images of Trent on 1515 that I captured... Three images of Trent trashing the stage: one , two and three. Plus a picture of Reznor during their Interview: here.

Below is the transcript of the full length interview featuring Trent Reznor discussing their little problems at their show.

1515 MTV NEWS: I just wanted to ask you guys about how you got involved with the Lollapalooza tour, when you heard about it in the first place?

TRENT REZNOR: We heard about it maybe four, five months ago and I guess it was kind of up to Jane's Addiction who was gonna be on tour. We have always been fans of theirs. We played a couple shows in L.A. with them and I was flattered to be asked, to be part of something that could be pretty cool, so.

MTV NEWS: Do you guys have anything special thing planned for the hot weather here?

RICHARD PATRICK: Drink lots of water I guess.

TRENT: I mean the whole idea of playing outside for us is a totally foreign idea because we are a totally, indoors, controlled environment, dark band and initially when we were asked to do this, our reservations were trying to translate to a big venue and the outside, in the daylight and not have the things we were accustomed to and then we tried to change that into a challenge to make it, to try to adapt the set to work in an outdoor, hostile environment. I really don't like playing big venues. I much prefer clubs where people can interact. It's very impersonal when people are miles away from people, so.

MTV NEWS: What kind of set are you planning?

TRENT: We can play 45 minutes, so we've made it more aggressive than we have been in the past and musically it's tougher and it should be more exhausting, and that's the bad thing about the heat. At about the third song you have to realize am I going to try to keep the show up and maybe pass out or die or try and sustain so, that's the only thing we get nervous about, is surviving the set really.

(The band then takes the stage, and has its set cut short by equipment problems, prompting the band to trash its gear before storming off stage)

MTV NEWS: What just happened?

TRENT: Well, we were officially the first casualty of the Lollapalooza tour here in Phoenix, Arizona. I guess what happened is a lot of our equipment in the back was sitting in the sun, baking in the desert heat, and since we are a electronic-based kind of band, when the main part of your sound becomes ruined and melted, which I think is what happened, it was cutting out and becoming a nightmare and that complemented with the incompetence on the part of the crew led to a disasterous embarassing situation. So we really want to apologize to our fans in Phoenix that came out to see us because we really wanted to do a good show and it was a nightmare.

MTV NEWS: Did you actually stop right in the middle of a song?

TRENT: Well, we had to so, yeah, the second song. The same thing happened so it was time to cut our losses and maybe entertain people by smashing our expensive equipment instead of commiting social suicide on the stage.

MTV NEWS: I mean, were you really upset, by smashing the equipment on stage?

TRENT: Yeah, I mean we want to do a good show more than anybody wants to see one. We've been pumping up for this show for a long time and this tour and tried to think of every possible situation that could arise and this was out of my own hands and the band's hands and unfortunately we bare the brunt of it when it occurs onstage so, yeah I feel terrible.

MTV NEWS: So, now what happens with this, I mean?

TRENT: Well, I don't know. Hopefully we won't get spanked too badly for doing this, but there was no other choice but to stop the set.

MTV NEWS: I mean how hard is it going to be to fix this equipment?

TRENT: Well, I mean you can go into a store and buy new equipment and then think "Boy, we better not put that in the sun next time." We're on the hot seat here.

MTV NEWS: Have you heard from anybody like the promoter or anything, have they said anything?

TRENT REZNOR: Well this all happened about ten minutes ago and I ran to the bus and we've been hiding here ever since. You're the first people who have got us.

Thanks to Mtv Online for letting me use their work.

I'll have the rest of the news later this evening...

Muppets Tonight (Nine Inch Snails)

Here's something that was sent into me, I wish I saw this and snagged some screen shots, but if any, this detailed report will do nicely...

I was just flipping channels and I stopped on Muppets Tonight. It was being hosted by Paula Abdul. They did a sketch and then showed the control room. One of the muppets said "Okay, things are going smoothly. Let's que the Nine Inch Snails." Somebody told him that they weren't there yet, something about hanging out with the turtles, I believe. Then they did another sketch and went back to the control room. He said, "Okay let's go to the Nine Inch Snails." They still weren't there. The Nine Inch Snails finally show up, but they say they are mobbed by groupies. "It was a Slugfest, get it." Yeah, it's corny. So when the credits are rolling, four snails come on. They have chains on and their lips pierced and mohawk-looking hair. The frontsnail, i guess, says, "Hey, we're the Nine Inch Snails. Where'd everybody go?" Another snail says, "Hey, let's just play." So they sing this song about their shell being their cell. The stage was dark with blue lights and scrap metal or something in the background. I just thought it was pretty funny that the muppets were doing a parody of NIN.

Thank a lot to: jezebel.

As you all notice my updates have been pretty plain. I've been gone all weekend and so with this, I hope it makes up for it... if any...

I'm in a rush right now, late for a party. When I get home, I'll post the rest of my news.

DM Tribute

About 4 weeks ago there were rumors of Trent Reznor singing to "Personal Jesus" off the new DM Tribute. Even though this site here reports it down as Trent doing so, it's highly unlikly that this is to happen. But recently Jam Music has spoken to Marilyn Manson about this subject and this is what JM has to say...

"We talked to Marilyn Manson a bunch of times and he wants to do 'Personal Jesus'," adds Edwards, "but I don't think it's going to come to fruition."

So, with Trent's recent work this year, BlackBomb, Victory and hopfully the Fragile by the end of the summer, Trent is flooded with consistant work. He will most likly not be doing this. But for more information on this subject here is the Track listings as of right now...

"For The Masses" tentative track listing:

Smashing Pumpkins, "Never Let Me Down Again"
Failure, "Enjoy The Silence"
The Cure, "The World In My Eyes"
Hooverphonic, "Shake The Disease"
Locust, "Master And Servant"
Meat Beat Manifesto, "Everything Counts"
Self, "Shame"
Gus Gus, "Monument"
Apollo 440, "I Feel You"
Deftones, "To Have And To Hold"
Rammstein, "Stripped"
Dishwalla, "Policy Of Truth"
Monster Magnet, "Black Celebration"
God Lives Underwater, "Fly On The Windscreen"

This Tribute Album is said be due out due August. 4, on 1500/A&M. I'll be keeping a close eye on this just in case anything does come up as of Trent....

Thanks to: thomas.

AP Interview of Halford

Yet another interview with Rob Halford with Trent mentioning... I will only post Halford interviews if there are mentions of Trent. Here's an Excerpt from the Alternative Press/May l998 issue, page 50/Rob Halford Interview...

"An hour earlier, I had sat down with Halford in the make-up room to discuss Two's debut album, Voyeurs (Nothing/Interscope). TRENT REZNOR co-produced, and it sounds that way: It's solid dancefloor industrial/metal. Surprisingly, perhaps even admirably, Halford's consummate operatic metal croon is no- where to be found on Voyeurs; you'd sooner think it was Brian Eno on vocals. Whispers, murmurs, humming--sometimes Halford's hardly even singing, let alone oversinging."

......."Even TRENT REZNOR's saying that industrial music is a dead-and-buried form," Halford remarks. "There are alot of touches to this music that I think lend it a contemporary edge-- hopefully, we're musically relevant to what's going on now. But we've really just tried to create a collection of modern pop music, and draw your own conclusions."

End of excerpt mentioning Trent/article continues on pages 5l and 52 about Halford... There are also behind the scene shots of Halford's new video, "I'm a Pig" in this issue.

Thanks to: crystal and azad.

I will be working on my news letter soon. Sorry for not sending the last one out. I have about 500 emails now, and it's pretty hard to keep up with... keep sending them in though. Once I have things under control I'll have the news letter out every week... thanks for your patience.

Anne Rice Fan Club Ball

In November of last year Trent Reznor attended Anne Rice's Vampire Lestat Fan Club Ball in New Orleans. The image on right is Trent wearing a Gene Simmons mask before trading it with another person and leaving(click the image for a larger picture) Below is the full story of Ritchie Champagne's encounter...

mask Trent and his entourage attended the Gathering of the Coven of Anne Rice's Vampire Lestat Fan Club on Nov. 1, 1997. Trent wore a Gene Simmons mask and business suit even though the rest of his crowd kept to their original plan of 18th century dress. Soon after they arrived, Renee pointed Trent out to me so i could say hello to him but he was involved in a conversation so I waited until later. I caught up with Trent as he was leaving and we spoke for a moment.

About half an hour later I saw Gene and walked up. He had gained a few inches in height so i asked if they had traded masks so that Trent could leave unnoticed. The answer was yes. I don't see how more than one of us could have wondered how trent gained a few inches when no one knew until I spilled the news that Gene was Trent.

In '96, I was contacted by Trent's office. They were looking for passes to our Gathering. I was invited over to the studio and I gave them passes. In '97 they called me again. I visited the studio and we exchanged VIP passes for NIN goodies. Anne was not involved in inviting Trent. She hardly even knew who he was. However, Trent had an autumnal flower arrangement delivered to Anne's residence. This made Anne interested in listening to Trent's music to see where he was coming from. I got paged from Anne's house. When I returned the call I was asked what the latest CD was so Anne could send someone out to buy it. That night she listened to The Downward Spiral a few times. Not her cup of tea but she found it very interesting. Even though trent was at the Gathering for hours, Anne and Trent were never introduced. They both did their own thing.

Thanks to Ritchie Champagne for sending me his story (Senior Editor of Anne Rice's Newsletter), Michelle Simpson (the photographer) for the image of Trent, and everyone else who I may have missed...

1998 SPIN Vital Artists

Last April Trent Reznor made cover of SPIN's "1997 Most Vital Artists in Music" ranking as number 1 with a 2 page report. This year SPIN held another one where Trent fell 3 places to number 4. This is what SPIN had to say on page 86... (click on image for larger scan)

SPIN If anyone on the current alt landscape approached the status of both icon and auteur, it's Trent Reznor: natural-born chiller on the lost highway winding its way from Gothville, through the industrial park, and into the newfangled suburbs of electronica. He's the model action hero for the hypermodern universe (or, perhaps, alt-rock's Don Henley): a recordning star who stays famous without actually, you know, releasing albums. Instead he makes singles, remixes, soundtracks, videos, even headlines. But mostly he makes scenes, lending his sensibility to David Lynch and David Bowie, gettin toasted by Oliver Stone and quoted by Tori Amos, competing with Alanis Morissette for the most bleepable alt-rock single ("Closer") of the decade. And Reznor even has his own cartoon- oh wait, that's Marilyn Manson. The much-craved new Nine Inch Nails album, featuring production assistance by Alan Muldaur (Smashing Pumpkins, Curve) is expected to arrive this fall.

Here's the placement order for the top 40 people:

01: Beck || 02: Radiohead || 03: Missy Elliot || 04: Trent Reznor || 05: Puff Daddy || 06: Hole || 07: Prodigy || 08: Fugees || 09: Ani DeFranco || 10: Marilyn Manson || 11: Pearl Jam || 12: Cornershop || 13: Beastie Boys || 14: PJ Harvey || 15: Chemical Brothers || 16: Wu-Tang Clan || 17: Tori Amos || 18: Smashing Pumpkins || 19: Tricky || 20: Fiona Apple || 21: Bob Dylan || 22: Rancid || 23: Bjork || 24: Rage Against the Machine || 25: Lil' Kim || 26: DJ Shadown || 27: Sieater-Kinney || 28: Erykah Badu || 29: Elliott Smith || 30: Roni Size || 31: Belle and Sebastian || 32: Alec Empire || 33: Pulp || 34: Garbage || 35: Busta Rhymes || 36: The Verve || 37: Phish || 38: Air || 39: Korn || 40: Ben Folds Five

As you all can see that image comes from the Rolling Stone photoshoot back in February 97, SPIN just edited it by blackening the background... clever.

Thank you Keith Duemling of Smashed Up Sanity for sending me the full report.

More Crow News

Here's an update on the THE CROW 3 movie that is featured in the new April 20th Rolling Stone with Sarah McLachlan on cover....

"White Zombie frontman Rob Zombie is putting the final touches on his first solo album. The as-yet-untitled project is due out July l4th............Zombie will launch a tour when the album comes out. He was scheduled to begin directing THE CROW 3 this spring, but that project has been shelved. Instead, Zombie (who also wrote the screenplay) and the film's producers have decided to develop the script for THE CROW 3 as a different Gothic rock & roll horror movie. "It was a good experience," Zombie says, "but working on a CROW story was like wearing a straitjacket. There were all these preconceived notions of what 'the franchise needed to be.' If I hear that phrase one more time, I'll shoot myself."...

Though there was still no mention of NIN... you can read the latest news on this subject on my old news section... Trent Reznor will not be playing the dead avenger, but Charlie Clouser of Nine Inch Nails is STILL rumored to be working on the soundtrack.

Thanks to: crystal.

Trent's Keyboard

I was sent this graphic along with information on how Jilt3D became an owner of one of Trent's keyboards. (to see a larger image clcik the graphic) Here's what he had to say...

keyboardThis dude phil works concert security at the UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, LA the night of the nin show (the big arena show with the cool screen in front of the stage for hurt, etc.) after the show he saw it sitting in a pile of destroyed equipment that was to be thrown away. He knew I was a keyboard player and the ultimate NIN fan, so he decided to take it so I would have the coolest piece of nin memorabilia possible. (well... a chick getting laid by trent would be pretty cool too but since I am not a chick that is way outta the question) hehe I told Trent that I had it last time i saw him in New Orleans (at the lords of acid show) he said "cool" that's all I have to say about that...

If you want to talk with this guy who has tons of NIN history... write him some time.

Thanks to: jilted.

The Edge with Halford

For those who missed the live broadcast of Rob Halford yesterday on 102.1, "The Edge". I have a few of the important questions that were asked and answered. Like I reported Trent was talked about... more of the same, but enough to listen. I will have this report Streamed in Real Audio later this evening... thanks so much to daredevil.

Host: What's your releationship with Trent Reznor?

Halford: I was with some people driving past Trent's studio, not knowing that, that was his studio/house. Which is a great building. We drove past it about 2/3 times before we said hello. While we were there Trent was working on his record. We had demos in the car. He wanted to listen... 3 months later, we got a call back. Trent said he loved the music, and that he had some ideas. He was very interested as you can see.

Trent lives in a very protective environment. He's a visonary for creating great work. Trent helped me take me to new areas.

Caller 1 (Derral): Congrats on TWO, it's different than your past work.

Lots have happened last few years, just letting go of the past. Less planning for me. I felt like starting all over again.

Caller 2 (Chris): What are listening to these days?

Halford: Everything, I have a pasion for music. I love melody. I'm a melody phreak.

This special was split into 2. The first half was on Scott Weiland. The Edge was discussing Weiland's recent (solo) album. The second have which was only 15 minutes was of Halford. It was a pretty good interview for 15 minutes and with 2 callers asking questions. The played 2 songs during the broadcast, "I'm a pig" and "Water's Leaking".

I have other news to report. It's NOT quite as important right now. I'll have it up soon.

Chris Vrenna on 16VOLT Album

It appears Chris Vrenna is back at it again. This month live drums are being recorded by Vrenna on the new 16volt album...

After fourteen months of shopping, 16VOLT has inked a deal with slipdisc/mercury/polygram. The new album titled "Super Cool Nothing" is slated for release on August 18th, 1998. Production on the record is underway with co-producers Bill Kennedy (Nine Inch Nails, Marylin Manson) and Joseph Bishara (Drown, Danzig). The record promises to be the most cohesive 16VOLT record to date, swaying from brutaly heavy guitar tracks to beautiful melodic tracks. A very diverse and conceptual record is pulled together visually by the photography of J.K. Potter. Live drums are being recorded this month with special guest Chris Vrenna from Nine Inch Nails. Stay tuned for more details as they come in.

Trent on VH1

I'll try to get an image of this since VH1 likes to reair their shows...

There was a clip of Trent on VH1 during their top 100 artists, specifically on the Devo section, about #82. And they use the Din Engschrift font (TPD/TDS font) for the Top 100 artist text.

Thanks to: Leviathant.

NIN Laser show

Fun and Games for those near this location...

There is a NIN-laser show at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, Washington. It lasts about 45 minutes long, and the price is $6.25. It should be running till the end of summer, and those near by should check it out. They did an especially good job on Hurt and Wish. Mr. Self Destruct just sounded silly. They also used the Aphrodite version of The Perfect Drug in the light show.

Thanks to: Rennie.

Don't forget now, today is the live Real Audio broadcast featuring Rob Halford. For more on this subject read my April 2nd update, sorry about the bad date given...

Sorry about not sending my news letter out yesterday. I've been swormed with 100 of emails that I have been able to keep up with them. But keep sending them, I'll try to get it out as soon as possible...

I have some new news to post- but I'll do that after the Halford real audio broadcast around midnight tonight...

Anne Rice Fan Club Ball

Trent Reznor is mentioned quite a bit in a newsletter of Anne Rice's Vampire Lestat Fan Club. The article is about the l997 Halloween Gathering that was held in New Orleans. There is also a small photo of Trent in a costume. I'll have this image on Monday or Tuesday(arriving in the mail). Below is the full story mailed to me early today, thanks to Ritchie Champagne who is the Senior Editor of Anne Rice's Newsletter.

Trent and his entourage attended the Gathering of the Coven of Anne Rice's Vampire Lestat Fan Club on Nov. 1, 1997. Trent wore a Gene Simmons mask and business suit even though the rest of his crowd kept to their original plan of 18th century dress. Not her cup of tea but she found it very interesting. Even though trent was at the Gathering for hours, Anne and Trent were never introduced. They both did their own thing.

Again thanks to Nancy for her side of the story...

Last November Trent Reznor attened Anne Rice's Fan Club Ball and wore the Gene Simmons mask and a business suit, which what the image shows. Another fan said that allegedly Ms. Rice's office sent Trent the tickets, with his (then) assistant Rene sending roses and the Downward Spiral CD in thanks. Also allegedly Anne had never heard his music before, and somehow the two celebs. didn't finally get formally introduced that evening.

Later that evening Trent either traded or gave away the KISS mask before leaving. More than one vampire wondered how Mr. Reznor had managed to grow a few inches.

There was also a debate on alt-music-nin a while back that Trent inspired Anne Rice's 1997 book "Violin". He didn't. They didn't meet until recently, and she had never heard his music until reportedly last Fall. Renee his assistant is also listed in the Thank-You section of the Anne Rice club newsletter, but reportedly she left last November and has been replaced by a woman named Lola.

In the remix sample that I have online, you can make out the "fast heavy guitar" at the beginning of the mix. (sorry for the quality of the clip, best of what we had)

Thanks to: nin981.

I'll have my news letter out today at the end of the day for those who are writting in so that ALL the news is sent.

Lalla Canceled

Lollapalooza has been officialy canceled, the first time in 8 years. With impressive lineups of Jane's Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Ice T's Body Count, Rollins Band and Tool from years ago.

Organizers -- co-founder Ted Gardner of Los Angeles- based Larrikin Management and the tour's booking agency, William Morris Agency -- have had a hard time getting the level of acts the tour is accustomed to. Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, and Garbage are among the talent to have said no to offers to join the tour.

With Lalla cancelled leaving a gap for NIN lovers to see in concert- unless NIN plans to tour instead of joining package tours... where does that leave the fans? Well even with the Fragile just AROUND the corner, will NIN tour this summer or even fall?

Much Music reported, once the album is complete NIN will tour in support of their upcoming release, tentatively titled the "Fragile"

But other sources close to Trent Reznor say,

"the latest Nine Inch Nails project is nowhere near being prepared to support a tour as early as the summer." (Mtv)

Well even with that, and these repeative rumors of release dates from our local dj's and record stores who keep shelling out... will they ever end!? I read in a Rolling Stone magazine around late 97, that there is talk about another Woodstock in 99. Even though RS reported it to be in 1999, that leaves a VERY good chance for NIN to join since it's international success of The Downward Spiral secured Nine Inch Nails a top billing at Woodstock 94. But that doesn't say that NIN won't tour in 98... it's more of an assumption that NIN may join this talked about issue in 99.

Tea Party Covers Hurt

On April 3rd, The Tea Party covered "Hurt" at their concert in Fredericton, NB Canada. It seems that the "Tea Party" does a cover of Hurt at every show now. It isn't a direct cover of Hurt, but they use the lyrics and the melody in another song.

Two's Company

In the new April issue of Pulse, pages 47 and 50. There's an interview featuring Rob Halford called "Two's Company". Below is a few paragraphs where Trent was mentioned.

Although his name is practically synonymous with heavy metal, ex-Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford has never submitted to the conventions of the genre. In the mid-70's, when heavy meant Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, he and his bandmates helped usher in a faster, more razor-edged form of music known as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Even during its metallic reign, Judas Priest experimented with pop (Point of Entry), new wave (Turbo) and thrash (Ram It Down, all Columbia). His most recent project is TWO, a cutting-edge hybrid of industrial, metal and British pop. On the group's debut album VOYEURS (Nothing/Interscope), NINE INCH NAILS ringmaster TRENT REZNOR served as executive producer, which may account for the record's pernicious electronic pulse.

PULSE: Rob, you just worked with TRENT REZNOR on your new album. How would you describe that meeting of the minds?

HALFORD: It was great. He's a very cool guy with a tremendous musical ability. He worked on this new music from TWO as executive producer, so basically he just allowed the simple, song structures to come into his head and as producer, he moved them off to a different place. In my mind, they sound better now."

That is the end of the mention of TRENT, but the interview continues with info about the Deftones and Judas Priest...

New news on the Edge

On my March 30th update, I reported that Rob Halford of TWO will be interviewed LIVE on 102.1, "The Edge". Well, I have recieved a new, better address for this broadcast. (The original URL I gave wasn't really The Edge, it was a compilation of shows off the VirtuallyCanadian address) Read below for new details...

On April 6th Rob Halford will be interviewed LIVE between 6PM and 8PM EST, here in streamed real audio. If you don't have the real audio plug-in on your browser, you can pick up your free version here.

The Edge is also known as CFNY, and you may remember it from Closure, when Trent Reznor was interviewed in sunglasses (ie: 200 shows, no deaths yet, etc)

The show is an (above-)normal radio station with interviews, live performances, and music scene updates from around the world.

With the April 1st live chat interview of Halford on Yahoo, I assume just like the online chat, Trent will be mentioned or asked about... I will have new news following this live show here on SLS.

Thanks again daredevil.

Victory Release Date

Finally, Allstar announced a purchase date for the remix single, Victory. Like I reported before, it is to be released as a "maxi-single" (read my March 31st & 29th updates for more details)

Combs, who was rumored to have turned down a part in the next Lethal Weapon film, worked with Stone on Combs' latest video for the song "Victory" off of his album No Way Out, which was released in July of 1997 on his Bad Boy Entertainment label. Starring in the video, which recently debuted on various music cable stations, are Danny DeVito, Dennis Hopper, and Busta Rhymes. Meanwhile, the Trent Reznor and Goldie remixes of "Victory" are due April 17 as a maxi-single.

When I get my copy of the Victory single, in a few days. I will have Trent's remix online in MP3 and streamed real audio format.

Thanks to: Azad.

Halford on Yahoo Chat

Last night Rob Halford (of TWO) was on Yahoo chat, answering the many thousands of questions that were asked. Some came to be interesting with a few questions of Trent, but the hour long interview had it's high and low points... below are a few questions that were asked during the interview... it was a long show, so I sumarized some of the most interesting...

How old were you when you wanted to be a singer? Proabably my earliest recollection was dragged by the music teacher when I was 8 years old.

What was it like working with Trent Reznor and what are your views on how the new NIN album should sound? It was exciting and unusual, a very spontaneous and creative environment. I have no clue on what the new nails album will sound. Trent is a very private person and he keeps his music under wraps until its released.

Today, do you consider rock and pop either industry, entertainment or art? in which? I think all three naturally mesh and entertine with each other, but for me I hope it's basically entertainment and art.

What exactly do you feel about the new Priest album? I haven't heard it yet cause I'm too emotionally attached to the past.

What do you listen for in a guitar players sound? What really gets you going? An original sound and a passion in the performance.

How did you hook up with Trent Reznor? I met him at Mardi Gras in New Orleans two years ago.

What do you remember about touring with Kiss, way back then?? Can you share some thoughts?? It was a mind blowing experience. I played with Kiss on their last tour, they were playing make up and we played to 20,000 people a night 7 days a week.

What was the weirdest thing that you learned about your self from the media? That I am a satanist.

What are your main influences today? I don't really have any influences. I just absorb everything and enjoy the good music that I hear.

Do you like Marilyn Manson? We both use the same nail varnish.

How do you think coming out as a gay man will effect your audience? I hope they will view me as wanting to share another part of my personality and to show people that you have no fear and that you should hide nothing about yourself in life. The more honest you are the better you look like your self.

When will TWO start touring? We are going to start touring the end of April in the states.

Are you planning on having kids? Yeah, I would love to have children.

Why do you like Spice Girls so much, and who's your favorite one? The Spice Girls rule. I like Sporty Spice and by the way, I'm Old Spice.

What are some other interests besides music? Would you ever want to act? I would love the opp. to play a real heavy mean metal bastard in a movie. I love the movies and I love going to the movies and getting lost in the fantasy and the escapeism. I use movies like I use music.

With the recent publicity of the 'BlackBomb' leak, Trent's 'Victory' clip and others... SLS has now reached a total of 1,500 viewers a day. Thanks for choosing SLS for your daily nin news source. Updated every day around the clock!

Mtv Live of Victory

During the Mtv Live Broadcast featuring the debut music video, Victory. Puffy described what was to be of the new yet to be released Trent Reznor and Goldie remix. Below are a few of the 'topical' scripts that I finished writting up from the live interview.

Carson: A side for Victory, because were going to talk a lot about that. I read something about you'll be working... for Victory, now there's remixes done by Trent Reznor and Goldie?

Puffy: Trent Reznor, Goldie and my self.

Carson: Now what are the chief differences between these 3 very different songs?

Puffy: You know Goldie has his, like techno flavor, you know? The flavor from over there, over in Europe and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, one of the greatest rock producers of all time. He put something down for me. And then I did a rock remix and a hip-hop remix. I'm getting more into rock, as far as production wise and I just did...

Here's a little somthing about the video...

Carson: Lets talk about Victory, Cuz were about to see it. Tell us about the song, you make the song, what's your vision for this video?

Puff: The vision to this song, was to try to take a hip-hop to the next level. For as my vision, my dreams... You see a lot of rock videos, a lot of Michael Jackson videos your like, "oh my god" like it was a movie, it was something you never thought of doing. You never thought of doing in a music video. That's what I tried to do with Victory. Over the last 5 years hip-hop has elevated to such a high-high place and a lot of videos should reflect that; if it's possible. And this video right here is just a story if puffy daddy and the family lived in the year 3000 and how people still try to bring us down as we still keep on rising to the top.

Well for those who saw it... it was decent video. Though it was a take off of the movie, "Running Man." It was basically the same plot... A guy in a game that deals with life or death. He can't be beat'n and he keeps on running... basically it... Hopper is the 'villian' while DeVito is a news reporter of the sport.... Busta Rhymes is just someone yelling on a ledge...

I will have a clip of the Trent remix in a few minutes... stay tuned!!
