No Win for
NIN
Well those who missed the Grammy Awards your in luck. Here
first on the ninternet is the complete
understanding of what went
down @ 6:30pm EST about the winners...
Like assumed by many, but
wished for... Nine Inch Nails, the
Perfect Drug didn't win the
"Best Hard Rock Performance".
Instead Smashing
Pumpkins
with "The End is the Beginning is the End"
(click link
for image) which ex-NIN drummer Chris Vrenna helped
out on, won the
Grammy announced earlier before the 8pm schedule
Grammy Awards
showing. For those who are would like to know the
understanding of how
the nominations are picked and chosen read my report
below:
Record companies and members of the
"National
Academy of Recording Arts and Science" submit legible
recordings for
consideration. For tonights Grammy's that would mean
records released between
October 1st, 1996 and September 30th of 97.
These submissions are then reviewed by a panel of 150 experts in various
parts of the music industry to make sure that each entry is placed in its
right category.
Next nominated ballots w/ lists of legible recordings
go to all NARAS
members- how ever members can only send back nominations
in the 4
general categories of record, album, song of the year and best
new
artist 9 out of the 22 specific musical areas.
The Grammy people
figure that this helps keep the "Polka" artists
from deciding
rap nominees and vice versa.
When the leading nominees are determined
a final ballet goes out to NARAS
members and in the final round members
vote in the 4 general categories
and in only 8 of the 22 music areas.
So now we all understand why Trent doesn't
make appearances at these
awards. Here's a taped
interview from Mtv that I scrounged up back in the early 90's...
"It's flattering to get an award like
that, but that doesn't mean anything you know?
Who votes on that? Out of
touch music buisness people and other Grammy winners. I mean when you see
readers polls and you win stuff like that. That's the real people
buying
records and not... I know I voted 2 or 300 times for my self...
No, I'm
kidding."
Be sure to watch Mtv back stage "wrap up
show" RIGHT after
the Grammy's. There might be some mention of Nine Inch
Nails...
Grammy's
Right now I'm setting up my video player so I can upload quick time
movies of the Grammy awards tonight here at SLS online. If NIN is
spoken
of, mentioned, etc on Mtv... I'll have that here as well right
after the
show. I'll also have video stills as well... stay tuned...
I'll be
up late tonight and won't quit till everything is up.
CDNow Review
Recently CDnow
has been giving
reviews upon tomorrows Grammy nominated winners and this
is what they had
to say about the 'Best Hard Rock Performace' for Nine Inch Nails, the
Perfect Drug...
Nine Inch Nails
frontman Trent Reznor's centerpiece from the Lost Highway
soundtrack was
hyped to death upon its release. Granted, it's a chilly,
complicated,
well-crafted piece of industrial music. But esoteric art
doesn't win
awards. Reznor also loses points for helping unleash
Marilyn Manson on
an unsuspecting world.
CDnow believes that Smashing
Pumpkins, 'The End is the Beginning is the
End' will win the catagory for
'Best Hard Rock Performance'.
Thanks a lot to: Thomas.
Mattrock -
Manson
Manson will be on Mattrock (MTV) again this saturday,
the 28th. It will
be part 2 of a 2 part interview.
