KROQ Radio Airs Manson and Courtney Interview

Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love did an interview which was taped on Wednesday, January 27th and broadcasted yesterday over the Los Angeles KROQ radio station. We don't have the full story on the interview but only a few topics which Manson discussed... here's the story:

"Manson mentioned how he had to baby-sit Courtney Love's child Frances Bean sometime during the stay in Australia" says Elan. Manson explained that he had to spend the entire stay at the Zoo watching a Gorilla eat its own feces, which he said, amazed him.

The water bottle incident that took place in Melbourne, Australia on January 26th was also brought up briefly. Manson explained that he started a fight with a kid in a crowd after he was nearly hit with a water bottle and invited him on stage, but as we know security guards pulled him away luckily enough before Manson missed him with his microphone stand...

Manson also commented on the theatre where he saw 'Psycho' after his Melbourne, Australia gig (read our "Marilyn Manson Enjoys 'Psycho' after Melbourne Performance" headline) He said, outside the theatre he pulled out a chair to watch the bursting fire near the entrance. Manson explained that is was rumored that birds would fly over the flame tube and would fry to a crisp when the fire would burst out, which amazed him and made him wait there all night.

Manson explained how he really dislikes Australians and how America would beat them in a war any day, sad Elan. Manson said, that Australians were like clones of Americans. They acted like Americans, they talked like Americans, but they were Australian. "It scared him," said Manson.

Manson was also upset about how the press in Australia treated him and his girlfriend (Rose McGowan), said Elan. Manson explains that they took snap shots of them where ever they went. Right when they entered the Airport, mobs of Australian magazine companies followed them taking pictures everywhere. He said he was on the cover of loads of Magazines without his consent, said Elan.

We've all known that Manson doesn't care for sports, but here's just one more piece to the story. Manson said yesterday that he doesn't like 'the Super Bowl' because of the memories he had as a kid. Manson explains that the other football players would never let Marilyn play because he was too small and scrawny, said Elan. At the time Manson looked up to this football stud Rick, who Marilyn practically worshipped at the time. Then after a long pause, he cracked everyone up saying Rick is now gay, says Elan.

KROQ also mentioned how they recently got a copy of Honcho magazine that everyone has been talking about, which Manson is fully exposed.

Matt says, "It was funny because Marilyn sounded kind of worried at this time of the interview." He then explains, little later in the program when Courtney finally got on the show... Marilyn got them back and said something like, "these two little fruitcakes over here found me in that gay porn magazine", says Elan.
Allstarmag.com also features some information about this also which can read by clicking here.

I'd also like to comment to the viewers to please stop submitting the nude pictures of Marilyn Manson in the gay magazine. For consideration for the band... it wouldn't be right.
Thanks a lot to: Elan.

Lots more news later today...

Manson Photos at HMV Signing

I uploaded 8 photos taken by the reverend of the HMV signing that took place on January 20th at Mid-City Center, Sydney Australia. You can find them all here in his review we posted last week. Sorry for the delays... I've been extremely busy.

Manson and Hole Call MTV About Tours

Yesterday Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love of Hole called MTV's Total Request Live at 8:15am Australia time to talk about their new North America tour, which is set to take off on February 28th also with opening act Monster Magnet. Nothing extremely news worthy happened with this that we already know as of today, but Manson did make some jokes about news editor John Norris because he called Manson by his real name. You can download this piece here [5.8 megs] in real video format.

Cher Talks About Manson's Advice

Those who are interested in downloading an MTV news brief that aired a few days ago which has Cher talking about Marilyn Manson, you can by clicking here [2.5 megs] in real video format... She explains that she called him one day for some advice about her next music video. MTV states that they'll have more of this this weekend edition on MTV's 1515. You can catch it on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and Monday at 12 noon.

Marilyn Manson Enjoys 'Psycho' after Melbourne Performance

A viewer joined Marilyn Manson, Twiggy and John5 late Monday night after their Melbourne, Australia gig. She hung out with John5 and attended a screening of 'Psycho' with them. Early next month, Marilyn Manson are to attend a screening of "Jawbreaker" for the first time... Manson was in the movie for a favor...

"I spent some time in John5's hotel room and bumped into Twiggy twice. I sat through the movie 'Psycho' with Marilyn and John sitting behind me in the cinema," said Kristie.

Manson's bodyguards aren't mean after all; they're just doing their jobs explains Kristie, "Marilyn's bodyguard was extremely nice, great guy. He looked after me well and the band of course!"

"Twiggy was very nutty in a very cool way, and kept ringing John's hotel room", said Kristie. "Once I had to answer cause John had gone out and Twiggy goes 'Is that Kristie?' To which she replies. "No, it's Kirstie" which she thought really confused him.

Also, Kristie explains that during Tuesday's concert at Melbourne, Australia. Manson told his roadies to bring "the guy with the bad eighties metal haircut" on stage so that he could deal with him personally after nearly getting hit by a water bottle (read yesterdays news headline "Manson Dodges Projectiles while Performing 'Sweet Dreams' ").

Before the guy was pushed onstage by the upset crowd a fan named Cory got a piece of him with a punch in his face.

"Manson was pretty pissed", said Kristie. "He got his mic stand ready, but the guy ran off to the security pit, to which Manson remarked, "just like I thought motherfucker".

So as Manson's bodyguard, Franklin and Kristie were talking, Franklin quickly spotted Cory and said, "he's the one who punched the guy out." Manson thanked Cory and gave him a hug, said Kristie. She says, "all of Manson's people were stern but good to me, and of course the band were great." She then goes to explain, "Anyone who says Marilyn or any of the band are fuckers to their fans obviously gave them the shits somehow, because there were only five of us there [at the hotel] all night, and we obeyed Franklin's instructions, we didn't piss them off." She then explains whenever you meet the band, "don't scream like a banshee, don't cry, don't be a fuckwit and embarrass yourself, be yourself, and they will respect you for respecting them."
Thanks a lot to: Kristie.

Results from Jawbreaker Chat

During last nights chat with Rose McGowan and Rebecca Gayheart. I submitted 20 questions and I was told that many of them were answered. Oddly enough during the chat the responses weren't reading back to me... which also happened to a few other people who attended the chat I'm told. This was my first time on the chat since it's many upgrades and it didn't work to well for my macintosh. They should have the transcript up soon... So I'll keep you all posted.

Manson Dodges Projectiles while Performing 'Sweet Dreams'

It seems many artist nowadays have to deal with dodging flying projectiles while they perform for their fans. Well, it just so happens that Marilyn Manson had to dodge, biros, shoes, and full water bottles yesterday in Melbourne, Australia while performing Sweet Dreams. We were sent a few reviews from our viewers and this is what happened:

I was at the Melbourne Big Day Out and I managed to score myself a place right up the front of the Manson crowd just in front of Manson's stage place.

While the roadies were setting up, a guy standing next to me started clicking his fingers and yelling at the roadie setting up John5's stuff, and the roadie flicked something at him. It turned out to be one of John5's plectrums, which was a really nice looking one. It looked to be made of wood, with the Manson omega symbol inlaid in gold on one side and the Antichrist Superstar lightning bolt in gold on the other. Looked like an expensive piece of work.

Later in the performance while Manson was singing Sweet Dreams and showing off his rear to the crowd, a biro pen hit him right on the cheek, which ended the song. Manson began to give a lecture to the obnoxious fans about throwing biros, when he was rudely interrupted again to dodge a water bottle nearly hitting his head, changing the lecture to water bottles. Following that came a shoe almost hitting Twiggy, so Manson said, "That includes shoes too bitch!" But that wasn't enough, a full water bottle was thrown which Manson quickly spotted and said, "That guy in the blue tank top. I'm not singing another fucking word until you belt the crap out of him. No, come up on stage, I'll deal with him myself." So the crowd lifted him up and brought him forward, but the security guards grabbed him and shoved him away while Manson threw his microphone stand at the guy, which missed. The security guards were pretty pissed off with him, and the guy looked scared shitless.
The lineup went: The Reflecting God, Great Big White World, Cake and Sodomy, Rock is Dead, Sweet Dreams, The Dope Show, IDLTD(BTDLM), Antichrist Superstar, Rock'n'Roll Nigger and the Beautiful People.
Thanks a lot to: sam, Kirstie, daniel and Koensayr.

Manson Statement and Tour Dates Announcement

For those who have been following the Craig Marks lawsuit against Marilyn Manson may want to keep a look out for another statement from Marilyn Manson on his official website at marilynmanson.net. It will be featured on their news section here "shortly" says Manson. So it all depends on how his schedule is going. We'll keep you posted.

Also Interscope tells me that MTV News will report all the latest upcoming tour dates for Manson's Mechanical Animals US Tour tomorrow. MTV is involved in this years tour with Marilyn Manson, Hole and Monster Magnet says Interscope. So expect a lot of news coverage from MTV this year...

Sonicnet.com will be announcing some tour dates that they got a hold of today. I won't be home until later tonight... so, keep checking back later in the day.

New Tour Dates, Scott Putesky at Concert, Twiggy Brawl

It has begun; dates for Manson's full length USA tour have just come in... Manson will be taking a whole month off according to the new tour dates... You can read them all here at Manson's official tour website. They will be updating them regularly as they come in. So far there are only 3 new dates... It seems Marilyn Manson will be kicking off the tour in the west cost. So those who live in Oregon and Washington... Start saving your money now, they go on sale January 30th!

I'd also like to comment that Interscope informed me today that Scott Putesky formally known as Daisy Berkowitz was spotted at the Sydney, Australian show on Saturday January 23rd. Scott won free tickets on a radio contest the other day and was spotted by some roadies who saw him roaming around on the stage area... That would explain why he's not answering emails.

On another surprsing note allstarmag.com reports that Marilyn Manson's Twiggy Ramirez had a shout-out of "Shut up or I'll kill you" which was directed toward a fan, who was close enough for them to play a particluar song. Manson readily agreed, but Ramirez took exception to the intrusion, says Allstarmag. Click here to read more on this story. I hope to have more information on this tomorrow from Interscope.

A viewer of ours who attended the concert gave us a detailed review of the January 23rd performance, which infact was the date we tried to set up a Manson interview that we mentioned on January 21st, damn... too bad huh!? We also planned to have pictures taken as well, but that fell through too. It's all in the review which can be read here, but sadly he doesn't speak of anything that allstarmag reported.

Thanks a lot to: reverend for the review.

Possible More Trent Collaboration and More News on Sister Soleil

It seems that Trent Reznor is steadily keeping himself busy with collaborations, mixing and his latest Nine Inch Nails release the Fragile tentatively due out this Spring.

Mtv news reports according to the L.A. Times that Trent Reznor has been asked to mix material from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. It seems that tracks are being sent out to Trent and others such as Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, De La Soul, Cornershop and Spain. To read the full report click here for more info.

Allstarmag.com features some new information about our January 22nd update about Sister Soleil and Trent Reznor collaborating for a track on the upcoming movie Stigmata. I'd like to mention that it is said here that Trent Reznor used the melody from David Bowie's "Crystal Japan" for "A Warm Place".

Here's a snippet from Allstarmag's article:

According to Sister Soleil flute player Todd Kelsey, Reznor and Sister Soleil lead singer Stella Katsoudas just wrapped up recording a remake of NIN's "A Warm Place" in Reznor's home studio in New Orleans. "Stella has been a NIN fan from way back, and had developed some ethereal vocal melodies for the song," says Kelsey. "She recorded them over the real song and Trent wound up hearing them, and liked what she had done, so they ended up working on the remake. It complements the song without detracting from its original beauty. Sounds cool."
To read the full article click here for more info.

Those who are interested in seeing the movie. Test screenings are out and about which the first review can be read here at Darkhorizons.com.

This film is bound to stir up a lot of controversy for it's religious material, which is surely to offend anyone who is of the more devote persuasion... says Light House. Especially all you die hard Catholics out there. For stigmata, just in case you didn't know, refers to the mysterious and often unexplained appearance of Christ like wounds on an individual. Who is almost always an extremely religious person, usually associated with the Church in some manner, though not in the case of the lead character in this film.

The movie stars Patrica Arquette as Frankie Paige who plays a self proclaimed Atheist, who mysteriously starts showing all the signs of the stigmata after receiving a rosary as a gift from her mother that formerly belonged to a now deceased priest (Father Alameia, who it turns out also suffered the signs or wounds of the stigmata).

You can also check out some quick stats about the cast members here as well.
Thanks a lot to: rob for all the quick help.

AVI Video of Manson on South Park

Trent Collaborates With Sister Soleil for Movie Soundtrack

This information has been confirmed. The Chicago-based group Sister Soleil and Trent Reznor have recently collaborated in New Orleans for a song featured on a movie soundtrack "Stigmata". Expect the soundtrack to hit the racks this Spring. Details below:

Universal Recording artist Sister Soleil has just finished recording in New Orleans with Trent Reznor. The song was recorded for the new movie Stigmata. It will be on the soundtrack or at least in the film. The release date hasn't been set but it should sometime in the spring. Stella Katsoudas is the lead singer and main force behind the Chicago-based Sister Soleil. This union between Stella and Trent came about because her manager, Mike Ryan, is friends with Trent. Ryan is also Sister Machine Gun's manager and several years ago also worked with (and may have also managed) Skinny Puppy. Also, her road manager, Mark O'Shea, used to be the road manager for NIN. The producer Flood has also done some work with Sister Soleil. Universal Records has been trying to promote Stella and Sister Soleil by bringing in 'big-name' people such as Howie Beno and Peter Gabriel to work with her (both are credited on 'Soularium', Sister Soleil's debut on Universal). Stella has long been a huge NIN fan and has wanted to work with Trent, so various people on her behalf have been working toward bringing Trent and her together in some musical capacity. Doug Morris, who is one of the head guys at Universal Records, is the driving force behind signing Sister Soleil after a huge bidding war among several record companies.
Thanks a lot to: tracy.

NIN in USA Today

In the "Life" section of USA Today on Friday it contained some confirmed news on the new nails album.

"The Backstreet Boys will be back, challenged by 'N Sync and a host of new kids on the block. Nine Inch Nails could pull alternative rock out of its slump. And No doubt will no doubt revitalize ska-pop. But can they regenerate the lucrative tidal wave of 1998?"

"Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, andBush are expected topower spring's uphill chart push, with reinforcements coming later in the year from red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, Pantera, AC/DC, Third Eye Blind, and Def Leppard."

"Nine Inch Nails, The Fragile. After completing 20 tracks and shaping another 25, Trent Reznor is plotting a double album-half instrumental, half vocal. Though steepened in loss, the tunes are more observational and less angry, a departure from 1994's critical and commercial success The Downward Spiral. May."
Thanks a lot to: Brokenfixd and steph.

Courtney Love Talks More Dirt About Trent Reznor

Manson and Courtney Love were interviewed recently on an Australian radio station and Courtney talks trash yet again about Trent.... We'll just see who does better on the charts Courtney. =)

An australian radio station FoxFM did an interview with Marilyn the other night - it was mostly just the usual questions but he did say thet they are going to tour with Hole. The station also interviewed Courtney Love and asked her which band she hated touring with. She said nin and called Trent a cockroach saying he kept knocking on her door at 4 in the morning until she finally gave in.
We will have audio of this when it arrives at my door step...

Miami's Online News Features Recapped Events of Marilyn Manson

There is a seven page article featuring Marilyn Manson at the Miami New Time website. It is a pretty good article I might add... I quickly skimmed the article and what you see below are new important facts that might interest some viewers. You can read the full interview here.

And although Manson and crew have inked a deal with Reznor's Nothing label, the band is having problems with Nothing's distributor, Interscope. Something about the "extreme tone of the band."

In Putesky's case this was a lot of songs: most of Portrait of an American Family, plus five songs on the megahit Antichrist Superstar. (Though Manson continues to be the sole lyricist, the tunes have always been collaborative efforts among the rest of the lineup, whoever that might be at the time.) Scott also retains the rights to 21 previously unreleased songs on several hours of early Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids demos. He's pondering when and how to release this stuff.

Manson's current spat with Spin, which this month crystallized into a multimillion-dollar lawsuit filed by editor Craig Marks (earlier this month Manson's lawyer hinted at a countersuit), has prompted whispers that he might be trying to reassert his status as a rock-and-roll bad boy in light of all the good press he's gotten. New Year's Eve he added Keith Moon to his list of influences by (gasp!) trashing his Las Vegas hotel room and throwing a chair out a window.
We'll have an answer from Scott Putesky himself about the previously unreleased songs on several Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids demos soon.
Thanks a lot to: john, mari.

Manson Question Used in Canada Schools around the Country

High School Seniors in Canada were ask a question comparing Marilyn Manson's muisc to Garth Brooks on their tests.

ok..to start things off here, i'm from vibank, saskatchewan, canda. i am in the middle of exams right now. this morning i wrote my math test. it's a departmental which means it is governmentized or something. every grade 12 student in the province gets the exact same exam.

one of the questions on the test was comparing Marilyn Manson and Garth Brooks in a poll of high school students rating each of them on a scale of 1-10, and which one they liked better. it was a question about standard deviation or something. the actual question escapes me right now because my brain is still fried from the test, but of what i can remeber, Manson was the favorite.

John 5 Transcript Interview in Guitar World Magazine

We mentioned yesterday that John 5 is featured in the new issue Guitar World magazine. Below is the transcript.

"You know those geeks who go into music stores and buy all the instructional videos?  Well, that's me!"

With his heavily tattooed arms, snake-skin platform shoes, feather boa and liberal use of rouge, Marilyn Manson's new guitarist, John 5, is the picture of glam rock-inspired decadence. But when it comes to playing, 5 (a.k.a. John Lowery), is about as dutifully diligent as they come. "The rest of the band always makes fun of me because I practice for like five hours a day on the tour bus," says 5. "I like to divide the time up and run through all the styles I like playing: country, jazz, blues and, of course, metal."

Mr. 5's fondness for woodshedding has certainly served him well. Since moving to L.A. when he was 17, his guitar skills have been in constant demand for countless sessions, and he has recorded, performed or toured with artists as varied as former Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford, rappers Salt-N-Pepa and country chanteuse k.d. lang. Perhaps the most obvious and dazzling display of 5's Vai-meets-Halen lightning chops can be found on DLR Band (Wawazat!!, 1998), David Lee Roth's most recent solo release. The guitarist, who worked very closely to Roth and even helped co-write several songs on the album, is quick to point out that, regardless of what some two-hand tapping source would have us believe, the ex-Van Halen frontman is far from being a musically clueless buffoon. "David is awesome," 5 says emphatically. "He has an incredibly acute musical sense and is aware of every detail in every song."

5 was saddened when he had to part ways with Roth after receiving a surprise call from the Manson camp, but any remorse he might have felt has long been replaced by a much more pressing concern: survival. On a tour that he describes as "crazier and wilder than anything you could ever imagine," the guitarist has already suffered the loss of a tooth in an onstage mishap. And while everything is currently copasetic with his dark master of ceremonies, 5 is all too aware that Marilyn Manson has a nasty habit of firing its guitarits almost without warning, plunging them back into the obscurity whence they came. "Yeah, I worry about the Manson guitar player curse," he confesses. "But what can I do? I keep my head down, play my parts as well as I can and hope for the best."
Thanks a lot to: shane.

KMFDM Is No More

I know this has nothing to do with Nothing Records, but I'm letting those who aren't aware know that KMFDM will be releasing their final album titled "ADIOS". This information comes strait from KMDFM's official site on their news page here.

Those who are interested, you can preorder their final disc through Weathermen Records here for $12.99. the code to order is "KMFDMADIOS" and the date of it's release is April 13th.

By the way... We are one of the first to have the new album cover thanks to the Weathermen.

That is the only statement made this morning by Sascha Konietzko, founder and mastermind of the world's foremost underground industrial rock band, KMFDM. In a brief statement, the Seattle-based artist would not offer any reason or explanation for the announcement, except to say, "We have also issued a media black out until March 1st." This date would have marked KMFDM's 15th Anniversary. KMFDM have released nine albums, which collectively sold over a million copies in the U.S. alone. The release of KMFDM's last album, appropriately titled ADIOS is pending as the recording deal with their former label Wax Trax Records has recently come to an end. Konietzko denied all rumors and speculations regarding the future of KMFDM.
Click here on KMFDM's FAQ to find out why this has all happened... (it can be found on the 15th paragraph.)

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A Spin magazine editor who is suing Marilyn Manson was fired Tuesday, along with the editor-in-chief of the publication. Craig Marks, who is suing Manson for $24 million for an alleged assault, was fired along with top editor Michael Hirschorn. An insider said Bob Miller, owner of Spin's publisher Miller Publishing Group, cited inadequate gains in circulation and ad sales and "creative differences" as motivating the moves. "We're all totally stunned," said one staffer present when Hirschorn announced his firing. "No one saw this coming. We thought we were putting out a great product." Staffers believe Miller felt Hirschorn's vision for the magazine was too ambitious and that Miller wants a softer, more fan-friendly publication. Marks, who is suing Manson, his music label and his two bodyguards following an incident last November in which he was allegedly pinned against a wall and beaten, had this to say: "I was told that they were making a clean sweep of the magazine's upper ranks."

Online Footage of Sleazy Marilyn Manson in Jawbreaker

A viewer did some digging on the official Jawbreaker website yesterday after it opened and found the movie clip featuring the sleazy look'n Marilyn Manson. I believe it is yet to be posted for the public eyes, but those who are interested have a first hand look at Manson wearing his funky mustache and his blue polyester leisure suit here on SLS. If for some strange reason the link doesn't work anymore... It means it's been taken off line.

There is also an extra piece on Manson here that the site updated with late yesterday (I know it wasn't there when it first opened). It talks a little on how Manson made a cameo in the film.

Manson South Park Character

Last night's showing of 'South Park' (cartoon) had a character made to look like Marilyn Manson.

I was just watching South Park on Comedy Central (10:00 pm). Manson was illistrated with the red hair wearing his famous breasted body suit, singing a type of song that would be on Mechanical Animals. Some guy that had been frozen since 1996 was walking down the street and saw Manson on a tv singing the 'Stink Breeches' song that got Chef in trouble during the South Park Chef Aid episode which was first sung by a parody of Alanis Morsette a few episodes back. The song was also played over the credits at the end.
The show will be on again this Saturday at 10:00 pm (1/23/99) so you can see it for your self. We will have pictures of this later today or tomorrow... were hoping for video...
Thanks to all the south park fans: shock, chad, shaun, twiggy99, mark, MM_Twiggy, METALIVE, DotsJR, Nothing110, SESSPOOL, paul and the 40 other people....

John 5 history in the latest Guitar World magazine on page 29...

I have a small tidbit of information pertaining to John 5 of Marilyn Manson. In the March issue of Guitar World that recently arrived at my doorstep on page 29 is a small article called "Marilyn Manson's John 5: Number's Racket". It contains a brief history of John 5's career and some quotes from him. He also tells about his fear of the dreaded "Manson guitar player curse". It's worth reading and reporting on.
If anyone could possibly transcribe the article please get back to me, thanks.

Official Jawbreaker Website Now Open

The official movie website opened today for Jawbraker which you know Marilyn Manson makes a cameo in with his girlfriend, Rose McGowan. The site features behind the scenes, cast stats, movie clippings and more... There is also a small section for Marilyn Manson as well. The site is graphically intense which may be a problem for some viewers who have slow modems... but it's well worth the visit. The site is soon to feature more movie clips, sweepstakes, premier information and much more. There is also to be an AOL chat with the girls from the film and also news and gossip later in time.

Wyclef Jean & Trent Reznor Collaborate On Pink Floyd Track

This here is also in the latest Entertainment Weekly (January 22nd issue) magazine that features Trent talking in breif about his album that we reported 3 days ago. But this mention can be found on page 102 in the last paragraph of the Wyclef talking about his new album.

... And while we're on the subject of unlikely pairings, the Fugee(Wyclef Jean) also plans to team with reclusive Nine Inch Nails masterminds Trent Reznor for a remake of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall"; at this point, it's unclear if the track will end up on the next NIN album, a future Jean Project, or elsewhere. Hmmm: Jean, Pavarotti, and Reznor. Sounds like the supergroup of the decade to us.
I was skeptical at first when this was also included in the original email, but as you can very well see the scans don't lie. This is just as bizarre as the puff daddy collaboration around this time last year... Say it in your head a few times, Wyclef, Trent, Wyclef, Trent... Could it be true?

Marilyn Manson will be broadcasted on Australia TV January 21st, 98.

We will most likely have video of this a few days after the airing of the program.

Manson Slips Some On The Charts

Manson Ranked #1 In Access Magazine

Manson Ranks in at #1 Record of 1998 in the January issue Access Magazine...

"The records which sold, were bold, and rock & rolled!"

Brian Warner's transformation from hellbound goth rocker to starcrossed glam boy should come as no suprise. Marilyn Manson (Warner) took his musical nihilism as far as it could go without actually dying. Mechanical Animals, the follow up to 1996's vitriolic Antichrist Superstar, is still fuelled by anger, isolation and resentment - emotions which endeared Manson to legion of disaffected suburban teens. But instead of tuneless aggression, Animals revels in strong melodies, big riffs and on-key singing. That Manson and his bandmates have traded black PVC for glittering sequins is less important than the fact that they have traded dissonance for melody. Songs like 'Disassociative', 'The Last Day On Earth' and 'Rock is Dead' prove Manson can sing as well as scream. In making that discovery, Marilyn Manson has made the most exciting rock & roll album of the year.
As we stated on our January 12th update, Manson graces the cover of the January issue of Access Magazine. Later today or tomorrow we will have the transcript to that interview online.
Thanks to: kall.

We also have some new official information about Trent collaborating with another artist for a movie soundtrack. More on this tomorrow...

Manson Speaks About The Irony In Their Performances

This article is in the January 19th issue of the Sydney newspaper 'The Daily Telegraph', written by Dino Scatena.

The spawn of Satan or just a mischevous media manipulator? Sydneysiders get to decide for themselves as the all-singing, all-blaspheming Marilyn Manson rides the Big Day Out rock'n'roll circus into Homebush this weekend.

Over 40,000 fans will cram the new Showgrounds on saturday when Manson takes to the stage along with a bevy of other local and international pop stars including Courtney Love's band Hole, Ireland's Ash, New York's Fun Lovin' Criminals, Korn and Sean Lennon.

"It's a lot like America with the Christian controversy but, for me, to be an artist that creates something that is provocative, I think some people should be pissed off," Manson said of the apparent public outrage he's caused since landing in Australia.

"If they weren't pissed off, it wouldn't be rock'n'roll. My aim is to create something that provokes people, makes them think, leaves them with something.Just to shock people is too easy."

Certainly, Manson's hour-long performance - which includes the androgynous singer preaching from a Hitler-esque podium and leading the audience in a chant of "I hate the drugs, but the drugs like me" - is designed to offend the moral minority.

"A lot of people, especially the conservative, miss a lot of the irony in my work," he said. "I think the fans get it. That's the important thing."

In spite of all the media attention, Manson and his actress girlfriend Rose McGowan slipped quietly into Sydney yesterday, so quietly that not a single fan lay in wait at the airport.

Courtney Love made a slightly grander entrance to the Big Day Out on the Gold Coast on Sunday, arriving in a Helicopter.

"I was just trying to piss off Marilyn," laughed Love. "But my helicopter pilot was such a wimp. He wouldn't fly over the crowd. I was going to totally moon the crowd." Saturday's Big Day Out is a sell-out and no tickets will be made available on the day.
Thanks a lot to: james.

Rev Fred Nile Speaks Up Against Marilyn Manson

The following article comes from 'The Age' newspaper, January 18. We reported yesterday the comments Manson made towards Rev Nile and well it did piss him off enough to have Nile protest...

Prime Minister John Howard should have shown more moral leadership and tried to stop outlandish US rocker Marilyn Manson entering Australia, morals campaigner Fred Nile said today.

The Reverend Nile, who has campaigned to stop Manson being let into Australia, said he felt let down by Mr Howard's lack of moral leadership over the issue.

Mr Nile today lashed out at the singer's comments about him to a crowd as big as 40,000 at the Big Day Out concert on the Gold Coast yesterday.

Manson claimed to have been at an orgy with the MP on Saturday night and that Mr Nile had told him that Jesus Christ had invented drugs, according to the Australian newspaper.

``I'm very angry about it,'' the Christian Democrat NSW Upper House MP said of the comments.

``But nothing has been done to stop him coming to Australia ... I would have thought that (Prime Minister John) Howard would have given more moral leadership.

``I'm very disappointed that he has let us down.''

However, he said he did not believe he could take legal action against the rock star.

Christian groups will distribute pamphlets outside the rock festival in Sydney at the weekend.

``Beware - do not let Marilyn Manson get into your head,'' says a leaflet.

Mr Nile said worshippers of Satan were hoping to recruit new members through the Marilyn Manson performance at the Big Day Out concerts.

Leaflets warning the audience of this agenda would be distributed outside the showground at Homebush Bay where Manson will perform this weekend.

``He has a hidden, Satanic message and agenda to recruit you to worship Satan, the prince of evil,'' the leaflet says.

``Think for yourself, do not be sucked in, pray for God's saving power and deliverance through Jesus Christ.''

Manson Displease Rev Fred Niles

Manson was featured on the news this evening speaking freely like he always does, but this time against Rev Fred Niles who was the one that tried to keep Manson from entering the country.

I was just watching the news and they had some comments from Manson this evening. They featured some disgruntled parents as well as some Christian campaigners led by rev Niles (who was the one trying to stop Manson from entering the country). It had Marilyn Manson arriving at the airport, with him saying, "They didn't succeed so I don't think much of them. I'd respect them more if they won." There were also a couple of idiotic looking fans spewing forth real teeny-bopper crap like 'Let the Antichrist live on!' Manson then commented, "Well I'm now heading to Mr. Niles house because he's having a big sex orgy and he invited me." The news reporter said that the Christian campaigners didn't want Manson to enter the country because he would recruit kids to Satan and then went on to call the band "self-proclaimed Satanists" and things like that, showing some shots of albums and fans at the big day out (at which Manson is to play at the gold coast tonight). Then it showed the mayor of gold coast who said that Manson won because of his intelligence and honesty.

Trent Disbelieves 'The Fragile' A Commercial Success

The latest Entertainment Weekly magazine features news about upcoming albums for 1999. Which in fact EW had a chance to talk to Trent briefly about the double album which still carries "The Fragile" title...

Is it possible to sell challenging, innovative music to the masses? On the Fragile, the long-awaited follow-up to Nine Inch Nails' dense, aggressive The Downward Spiral, Trent Reznor will take one of the year's biggest creative leaps by attempting just that. Tentatively due this spring and including such unorthodox production techniques as recording a ukulele in a kitchen sink, the possible 2-cd set represents a huge commercial risk, especially in a market flooded with Backstreet clones. "It doesn't look to me like a singles-oriented hit pop top of the charts type album," admits the singer. "I assume we aren't going to have super-heavy MTV rotation." Still, the Fragile has the potential to be a career defining artistic triumph. "I just want to make a record where someone says that's a fucking good record," says Reznor,33. "If I fail, I fail with a good conscience. Of course, I'll probably be singing a different tune if my record falls off the charts in the second week."

Best Case Scenario: Fragile becomes the year's quirkiest hit--demonstrating there is a rock god
Worst Case Scenario: NiN's Career begins a long downward spiral--and provides further proof that the '90's are over.

"I'm going to smoke a big Cohiba during the interview," I tell Mutt.
"You're going to look like a big asshole during the interview."
"Hey, don't forget who you're talking to."
"MTV policy. No smoking. Advertisers don't like it."

However, Ted Gardner, co-organizer of Lollapalooza, says "Manson's totally out of the picture," a statement echoed by other parties involved in negotiations.

Vrenna & Clouser Involved In A Japanese Band

It seems Chris Vrenna and Charlie Clouser are keeping things busy in Japan with a band called "Zilch". Chris was involved in their debut album, and has already recorded some work on their remix album as well. The remix album has no set release date, but Clouser has also contributed work too. This all took place about six months ago... It's only to be released in Japan. On another note Bill Kennedy who did work on "Closer (futher Away)" and was an additional engineer on "The Downward Spiral" is also credited on track 5 & 9 with Vrenna.

There's a new band that comes from Japan calling themselves "Zilch", it featured the Japanese famous musician Hide (he died in May 1998--ex. Japanese hard rock band "X Japan"). Chris is involved in their debut album "3.2.1".

"Zilch" released their debut album in July 1998, called "3.2.1", that included Chris Vrenna's drum track and credits his name. It was released as a Japanese music company "avex group", the catalog number is "CTCR-17044". These drum tracks made in about two years ago, when he was in NIN, so these are closer to NIN sounds, I think. Later Zilch will release a remix album called "bastardeyes" in the near future (release date is to be announced), Chris has a remix on some of their tracks for "bastardeyes", also Charlie Clouser (NIN) has joined in as remixer too.

Track list of "3.2.1" is below.

First Amendment Discussions on Manson

Last Thursday C-SPAN aired a program, which talked about the First Amendment in heavy detail. They had quite a few guests which one who basically did all the talking. He was a man named Ken Paulson who is the Executive Director of the First Amendment Center. During one of their topics Marilyn Manson was brought up because of his on stage acts and what he stands for... Those who are interested in downloading the piece, which discussed Marilyn Manson, you can here [3.4 megs] in real video format. It is educational and I just happened to be on that channel watching it last week, but those who aren't familiar with the first amendment I'm sure this would do some help to learn a thing or two (I sure did). They talked about many other issues of the first amendment, but I only uploaded the Marilyn Manson issue....

Curve Mentions Trent

This was posted on January 14th at Curve's official website. Every now and then Curve (Toni Halliday & Dean Garcia) leave messages on their Notice Board for their fans to read and respond too (just as Manson does on his official site). Toni Halliday (lead singer) recently posted an update on what has been happening on their new album studio and such and she briefly mentions Trent.

I thought it was about time I posted something on this sight, tell you a bit about what's going on with Dean and I. Well, Where do I start, okay I've got it we'll start with the studio that Dean and I are having built in North London, this is where we are going to record the new album and rehearse for all our tours from now on, it's a big step for us, to go from a home setup to a proper grown up studio, but you have to take the plunge sometime. Also we have found someone to keep this site more up to date, and as Dean said in his last posting we've finally managed to retrieve all the relevant information from Polar [the websmater] so it should start to look and feel a lot better soon, of course and comments you have regarding what you'd like to see on this site would be most helpful. On a more personal level everything here in my world is okay, Turkey my dog is sitting here beside me as I write this, I miss Alan (my hubby) a lot at the moment, I was wondering if Mr. Reznor had any intention of giving him back to me at any time in the near future, or is that me just wishful thinking, ah. Anyway must go, thanks... Tony Halliday (really)

MBM Review in Keyboard Magazine

In the February issue of keyboard magazine, Meat Beat Manifesto's album Actual Sounds & Voices is featured in the spotlight for NEXT month. Here's the review:

Jack Dangers and company find the perfect blend of manic dance/jungle energy, avant-garde sample collage, and tightly edited structures. Something fresh is comin' atcha every second, and while the tension never stops, it never gets completely out of hand either. The mixes are busy, but they never get so dense you can't hear every detail. The atonal analog synth pattern in "3 Floors Above You" is a perfect counterpoint to the cold digital drums. Pat Gleeson is credited on ARP 2600, Dan Nielsen on Rhodes and Wurlitzer, and Mark Pistel on Serge.

Waylon Jennings Learns From NIN

In the January issue of "Request" magazine there is a brief mention of Nine Inch Nails by Waylon Jennings. He says his son has turned him on to nin. He goes on to say that he learned a lot from listening to nin... The full article is below.

Everyone knows Waylon Jennings has a renegade reputation, but when it comes to musical influences, few realize just how far afield the country-music outlaw's tastes can take him. In recent years-thanks mostly to the influence of his 19-year-old son, Shooter Jennings' songs have begin to incorporate ideas gleaned from industrial and ambient frontiers.

"Shooter listens to some great things," says the 66-year-old Jennings. "He's turned me on to Enigma, and he's turned me on to Nine Inch Nails. I've learned a lot about rhythms from those types of things. I also like Metallica. James Hetfield and I have become great friends, and in fact we worked together on the Lollapalooza tour. That was the best audience I've ever had."

His association with Nashville notwithstanding, Jennings is no stranger to rock n' roll. From his all-too-brief tenure as bassist in Buddy Holly's touring band to his rock-star-packed recent album, Closing In on the Fire, the Texas native has consciously avoided imposing limits on his music. Perhaps the best example of his disregard for genres occurred at the height of glam-rock movement, when in January 1973 he found himself fulfilling a weeklong stint at max's Kansas City, entertaining the Andy Warhol crowd.

"That was a good experience," Jennings says. "I think I kind of set the tone at the beginning. Right when I got up on stage I said, 'Now we're from Nashville, and we're good ol' country boys. If you like what we do, we'd like for you to tell everybody you know. And if you don't, you'd better keep your mouth shut or we'll kick your ass.'"

He laughs. "Seriously, if you're doing something you truly enjoy, then other people can feel that. We had a great time playing Max's, and I really think out attitude had a lot to do with it."

Unauthorized Manson Documentary Video

There is a new 90 minute documentary video that is purchasable online which was first introduced to the internet on Manson's birthday, January 5th. The problem with the recently released, controversial video is it's inaccurate, racial issues scrutinized and very inappropriate... A slightly recent article which was featured in the South Florida newspaper, Sun Sentinel on January 7th, 99 talks about the unauthorized video at Sun-Sentinel.com.

And you thought Marilyn Manson's on-stage antics- the gore and spit and lewdness and satanic images- were offensive. That's nothing compared to the Boca shock rocker's private life.

When the scary makeup melts away and the spotlight fades, Manson forgets his fine gated community education and shows himself to be a racist boor with a connoisseur's appreciation for moral and physical abuse. It all comes through loud and clear in Demystifying the Devil, a new 90-minute documentary produced by soon-to-be-former friends of Manson's.

In rare footage shot on home video by his former squeeze, Manson- his real name is the less spectacular Brian Warner- is feeding a black mouse to a pet snake. With the snake moving in for the kill, Manson gives the play-by-play: "We see the nigger mouse about to die. Get the nigger now. Kill the nigger."

other video low-lights provided by MISSI ROMERO, a receptionist at SoBe's Delano Hotel who broke up with the rocker last fall after six years; Manson wearing a white sheet over his head, then writing "KKK" on it; Manson relishing in seeing a fluffy white bunny getting squeezed to death by another pet snake; Manson openly making fun of handicapped and overweight women at Disney World; Manson masturbating a dog. And that's the clean stuff. Insider will spare you the details on full frontal nudity and unspeakable acts with groupies' underwear and toothbrushes.

"Our documentary is really a tribute to Mr. Manson," said producer Chris Nicholas. The tape went on sale for $19.95 Tuesday, the day of Manson's 30th birthday. As of now, it can only be ordered through the internet site of the company, Network Production Group.

Manson publicist Jennie Boddy said Manson knows nothing about the documentary.

Magazine Interviews Rose McGowan

The Associated Press features an article about Manson's girlfriend, Rose McGowan dissussing a little about Manson...

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Marilyn Manson, the shock rocker who likes to wear fishnet stockings, lipstick and fake breasts, can be cool and collected when he wants. Take it from his girlfriend, Rose McGowan.

The actress told February's Moveline magazine that what she likes most about Manson is his ``sense of calm.''

``I'm centered, but in a way that a spinning top is centered, with its point on the ground and its body going in circles,'' said the ``Scream'' star. ``He's a lot more patient.''

New Coil News

Coil news about their final equinox/solstice single, "North", has been completed...

first, on the Coil front (this news is from the official Coil page), their final equinox/solstice single, "North", has been completed and will be available from import and mailorder shops sometime in January. they have also recorded an album for Prescription Records called "Astral Disaster" which is, unfortunately, available only to people already signed up with a subscription to Prescription (99 vinyl-only copies were pressed). the band has, however, promised that it will eventually appear (possibly in remixed form) on CD. the site has also brought back its rare Coil MP3 of the week feature.

there is also some news from the Ministry camp (Ministry aren't on nothing, but given trent's past involvement with members of Ministry in projects like 1000 Homo DJs and Revolting Cocks, nothing fans may be interested). their new album, "The Dark Side of the Spoon" is due out in the spring, and an mp3 of Supermaniac Soul (one of the songs on the new album) has leaked its way on to the net (it is currently available on the news page).

Warp records' Autechre (who had their most recent album, lp5, released on nothing) has a Peel Session out now in europe (available, unfortunately, only as an import).

Charlie Clouser Helps New TVT Band Hednoize

A viewer recently received an advance promotional copy of a disc called "Searching For the End" by Hednoize, a new band on TVT Records. Though it doesn't carry the full artwork/credits, but on one track, "Pay Me No Mind," Charlie Clouser is credited with "additional programming." It's being released at the end of March. Liisa writes, "I personally think it's pretty good. Appeals to the Depeche Mode fan in me, but it's got a harder edge."

Manson Granted Visas

Not a very exciting article, it's a few days old, but it does have a good comment to people that are opposed to Marilyn Manson here at an Australian news website.

US shock-rock group Marilyn Manson is heading for Australian stages after being granted visas by the Immigration Department, despite protests by right-wing groups and some Liberal politicians.

A co-organiser of the Big Day Out festival, Mr Vivian Lees, yesterday hailed the decision as a victory for proponents of free speech and artistic freedom.

``The people who opposed Marilyn Manson saw him as a soft target. They are a bunch of opportunists and carpet-baggers who are only trying to increase their chances of being re-elected,'' he said.

The New South Wales upper house MP Reverend Fred Nile wrote to the federal Immigration Minister, Mr Philip Ruddock, last year asking him to deny the band entry visas. Christian lobbyists argued that the singer posed a greater threat than David Irving, the British right-wing historian-author who disputes that the Jewish Holocaust happened.

The band will perform at all Big Day Out concerts in Australia this month.

News Concerning IDLTD(BTDLM) Single & More

The Weathermen sends us the latest about all upcoming products and what's up with the yet to be released Manson single, "I Don't Like The Drugs(But The Drugs Like Me)." I'll see about getting more information about the delayed single later today...

For those of you who have been wondering why Weathermen Records has not yet posted a tracklisting or mailed out the January 4 release of the import single "I Don't Like The Drugs(But The Drugs Like Me)", here is an explantion: Not only do we not have the single in stock as of today (Jan 13), we still have no track listing confirmation of the tracklisting, though once again we are told the Dr. Hook song "Get Your Rocks Off" will be one of them. At this point we will not confirm till we have them here in stock. You can still place your preorders.

Other Manson merchandise information:

The dope show picture disc(10.99) is now out of print, we have some left but not many.

The two record color vinyl (16.99) is out of print, we have plenty left.

The Nine Inch Nails "Ninetynine" shirts (16.99) are still available.

The Magazine with the free NOTHING RECORDS sampler (3.00) is now out of print(its from last month) but we have plenty left thanks to XLR8TR magazine.

Well, that is all for now. We are told that there may be some new NIN shirts in February, since Feb is the month that the spring line is unvailed for rock concert shirts at the Las Vegas clothing show.

Thats all for now. Happy new year to all.

McGowan Speaks More of Jawbreaker

You can find Manson's girlfriend Rose McGowan in the latest issue of Allure on page 51 talking a little about her new movie f/ Marilyn Manson Jawbreaker. The issue features Courtney Love on the cover.

The vampire-next-door face and the pinup body are amazing, but it's her sardonic, brainy wit that made Rose McGowan a cult heroine in neo-slasher films like Scream and The Doom Generation (and that was even before she started dating Marilyn Manson). This month she stars in Jawbreaker, a film about three high school girls who cover up a friend's death. It is, she says, "a wicked script, luscious and over-the-top," not to mention a festival of cleavage. Raised in a hippie commune in Italy (run by the same religious group that produced River Phoenix), McGowan, 24, "came out wearing lipstick as a complete reaction to people who didn't shave their legs." She still struts to a different drummer: "The first time I went to a dinner party in New York, everyone had on a little black dress from Barneys, and I was wearing a big white gown. I really didn't mind, thought. I am against blending."
The movie opens Friday, February 19th, 99.

Manson, Hole and Monster Magnet Tour Tidbits

The tour dates with Hole, Manson and Monster Magnet will soon be announced after Manson and Hole complete their tour of Australia and New Zealand this month, reports NME. Manson On Cover Of Access Magazine

In December Manson graced the cover of Access Magazine. The magazine has a farely large article on Marilyn and Co. as well as a few nice pictures. Those who may carry this issue, if you will please submit the article. If anyone is interested in future copies of the magazine, they are usually found at HMV. The viewer writes that he picked three copies and will be auctioning two of them on the net soon, most likely at E-Bay. (contact him for further information) The magazine also features a full page picture of Trent and a smaller one of the band (Lost Highway promo image). Here is a bit of that article:

"Yes, freaks and freakettes, the new Nine Inch Nails record is expected this spring. Someone please take Trent's Quake console and smash it. New music every half-decade is not acceptable... Ex-NIN programmer/drummer Chris Vrenna, by the way, did not work on the new record. Insted, he's been spending time working on his own project. Tweaker's "The Attraction To All Things Uncertain" will be out on Almo Sounds this spring..."

Floria Sigismondi Publishes Book

In November of 1998, Floria Sigismondi, famed director of Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" and "Tourniquet" videos, published a book composed of several never before seen images of the shock-rocker and his band. The viewer writes in saying, "I saw the book in Vancouver's Virgin Records Megastore selling for $75.00 CAN but you can buy it online for only $35.00US (List: $50.00) by clicking here. This book is truly a masterpeice by a wonderful photographer. The book also includes images of David Bowie and some of her other works."

Manson Mention In Canada's National Post

Marilyn was mentioned in the December 17, 1998, Arts and Life section of Canada's National Post. It was a big mention, but it was in an article called "In Defence of Remakers" by Dan Brown. Here is a snippet of the article:

"The phenomenon isn't, of course, limited to cinema. On radio, Metallica's cover of Bob S eger's "Turn the Page" is currently in heavy rotaion, and red-hot Marilyn Manson made his name by reworking "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)", the song that made the Eurythmnics.

Courtney Love Talks About Trent & Manson

Courtney Love of Hole is featured on the cover of the Australian version of Rolling Stone, February '99 issue. In this issue Manson is mentioned just a little and so is Trent. Though this magazine was just released, we now know that Manson and Courtney have their act together and are friends... The article below is 'a' reason why Manson did not want to tour with her... Trent is also mentioned in here like we stated, but whenever Courtney mentions Trent, it isn't always pleasant. Well, read for yourself.

Auf Der Maur: 1999? No.
Love: I don't think so.
Erlandson: Too much work to do in 1999.
Love: We've entertained some different stuff. All of a sudden Brian from Marilyn Manson [i.e Warner, His Satanic Ziggyness Himself] is being really mean about me. I don't know what that is 'cause I like him. We were gonna tour with them but then they wanted too much money and they didn't wanna split it. Then I thought it was such a decadent, depraved situation anyway. I could never bring my daughter. It's gonna be too dark, you know what I mean? They're going through the first phases of all that and like you said, there might be a lot of posturing and it's not organic in a way that I dig.
Auf Der Maur: We're touring with them in Australia but we're looking for something else after...
(Interviewer) Hmmm. Blondie?
Auf Der Maur: Hmmm. No. Guns n' Roses? A big rock boy band would be good.
Love: Well, it would be ironic if we had a big rock boy band 'cause that's what we set out to kill in the first place.
Auf Der Maur: Maybe if Nine Inch Nails would come back..
Love: (Sarcastic) Yeah, 'cause they're really gonna want to tour with us. And I really wanna tour with them. Listen, Melissa, I want them to come back, you know I do, but I don't know how Sparky (Trent Reznor) is gonna be when he hits terra firma.
Thanks a lot to: boffa.

Dutch Interview Transcribed

We now feature the transcript from the Dutch tv program from our December 21st update which featured Marilyn Manson just before his Tilburg, Europe performance last month. More About NIN's Pricing

I talked to my uni rep like I said I was going to do about the pricing we discussed on January 8th. (a viewer who checked Best Buy's computers brought up the pricing on the new nin album.) Well, the pricing that was sent to us was just a normal price list, which made sense at the time, because it was thought it concerned the nin album, but it didn't. This is how it goes:

It could be two tapes, or they could fit it on one. Either way, the 11.99 price is correct.

If a CD has a list price of 18.99, then the cassette is 11.99 (a 16.99 list CD has a 10.99 cassette list, 12.99 has a 7.99 cassette list. etc. etc.)

But the average Joe Schmoe doesn't know about "list prices" anyway. It's just a term that retail stores use.

Random Nothing News

We mentioned last month the reson for Marilyn Manson's "I Don't Like the Drugs(But The Drugs Like Me)" video hasn't aired on MusicMusic's canadian based music channel was because they don't agree with the lyrics in the new video... Well, it has yet to play on MuchMusic and it still looks like a no show for the Canadians, that's to bad...

On Friday I talked to one of the VJ's at MuchMusic, Juliette Powell, and I asked her why they have not played the new Marilyn Manson video I Dont Like The Drugs (But The Drugs Like Me) and her responce was that they still have the video in review, I asked why that was and she said that it had some unappropriate messages in it, but she also said she did not agree with what the people at Much Music are doing and she thinks the video should be played. She wouldnt tell me when they will know if it is suitable enough for them to play it.
Thanks a lot to: sexless ape.

Like I said on Saturday. I would remind you all to vote for Manson's IDLTD(BTDLM) video on Mtv's 'Total Request Live' for Monday's airing. It worked last time and we got him at number 8. Do you think we can do better? Weel, I'm sure we can beat those silly look'n Backstreet Boys. You can vote by clicking the banner and selecting Manson's 'IDLTD(BTDLM)" video.

In the winter issue of watch magazine in the "check out '98: year in chords" section, they make a small mention of nin. here it is:
"In a year where no one star shone brightest and no new movements were defined, rock music held its own with small steps and whispers. If that Nine Inch Nails record really does drop next spring, expect things to get a whole lot louder."
Thanks to: Eterna.

You can find a new poll that asks "What is your Pick For the Best Artist of all time?" All of those who would like to vote for Manson/NIN or any other Nothing Records artist only has a few lines to fill to support their favorite band. You can vote here.

Marilyn Manson To Turn Up In Skin Mag Spread

This recent article here which comes from RollingStone.com is claiming that nude shots of Manson from the start of his career will turn up in a gay porn mag soon. Since the images are owned by the photographer... Manson may not know that these images are going to be released to a mass amount of people without his permission... Maybe that might change now... hmm...

Since Marilyn Manson spends so much time waving his flabby, nekkid butt in the faces of audiences, we're not entirely surprised that the little devil was prodded into revealing a whole lot more of himself in a series of photos that just turned up in the gay porn monthly Honcho.

Manson didn't exactly agree to pose for the leather-lovin' skin mag, but the editors managed to hunt around and find some nude shots that date back to the beginning of the satanic silly-boy's career. They were shot by New York filmmaker Richard Kern, who -- until now -- was best known for his so-called "transgressive" films, most of which feature punk and goth demigods like Lydia Lunch and Jim "Foetus" Thirlwell doing bad imitations of porn stars.

Kern's pack-rat tendencies paid off when, in response to a query from Honcho, he said that he did happen to have some shots of Manson lying around. Details on the sale were sketchy, but a source at the publishing company suggests that the lensman was paid "in the low five figures" for the rather extensive portfolio.

Since Kern insists he legally owns the photos, thanks to the magic of a signed release, it's not clear if the Manson camp, who could not be reached for comment, has any recourse to stop their distribution in Honcho's March issue. But if he's really as close to Satan as he claims, perhaps the singer could call up a plague of locusts to simply destroy the entire press run.

Hole Talks About '99 Tour

Well, Courtney Love called Mtv's Total Request Live again yesterday.... I missed it this time, but luckily we have our fellow viewers who came through and told us about it... This time Courtney and Carson talked about how Hole and Manson plan to advertise the new tour. Well not really it was just a joke...

Also Mtv news features a small article here with Dave Wyndorf of Monster Magnet stating that he is glad that Hole and Manson are going to go on tour together and he is glad that his band could be a part of it.

Today at about 4pm there was another segment with Carson Daly from MTV talking to Courtney Love on the phone. Towards the end of the interview Carson asked her about the tour, because he had read somewhere that Monster Magnet was opening for Manson and Hole hadn't been mentioned anywhere. Also he mentioned that Manson was saying that his nice words about Courtney on New Year's Eve had been jokes, and he was kidding. Courtney replied that she had talked to Manson last night and they were still touring. She added they were trying to figure out what the ad for the tour should be, and her idea was that she and Brian would make out, then she would "caress his breasts" (I guess he would be wearing the Dope Show video suit), but "Brian thought it was too shocking." I'll take that as sarcasm...
I'd also like to note that Manson's "I Don't Like The Drugs (But The Drugs Like Me)" video made Mtv's countdown at number 8 yesterday... Well, if it was the viewers on SLS who clicked our banner yesterday a few hundred times after we asked everyone too (I'm guessing so); thanks for doing it, the ones who told me and those who didn't. You can always do it once more for Monday's TRL... I'll remind you all.

Manson's Home Up For Rent & Other Cool Manson Stories

I'm told that in Sunday's 'LA Times'. Manson's home is up for rent. (g' isn't this free publicity) There was an open house last Sunday and maybe this Sunday. There was a picture of the house in the paper, but it didn't mention it was Manson's place other than having the same address.

I'd thought I'd mention that Jim Carry (the actor) got Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals as a christmas gift! (very cool!)

Here's another story... Kraw wasn't working that day, but Manson came in to Tower Video returning a video (he has a rental account there) while he was back in LA (this happened a few days before New Years). One of the guys asked him when he was gonna play LA. He couldn't remember when, but he is supposed to play 3 nights at the Universal Ampitheatre (where the mtv music awards were). I thought that was kind of a lot as the place is pretty large, but it makes sense if Hole is with him as they are really big here, says Kraw.

Kraw also went to the Vegas show on December 31st which he got to talk with Ginger just for a second. (this happened in the casino after thes how) Ginger said he would play LA around March, but other than that he wasn't very talkative.

The main rapper/singer jimmy pop of the Blood Hound Gang was at the Vegas show. He's real cool, says Kraw. Jimmy has seen Manson about 10 times. He said that they had to rerecord some of their forth coming album because it wasn't dirty enough. Jokingly he said, "Manson wouldn't have been proud."

Thanks a lot to: kraw.

Police Search For Manson's Bodyguard

It seems the police really want Manson's bodyguard enough to to do a search for him! At least they aren't smart enough to search at a concert, but why would his bodyguards be there, right!? Anyway, MSNBC news reports the story... but first, here are a few snippets from the article!

"THE BODYGUARD has fled to Germany, and we are looking for him," said police spokeswoman Carmen Melendez, declining to identify him by name. "It's an active, ongoing investigation"

Marks alleged he suffered muscle strain, neck and emotional pain and was treated at a hospital for tissue injury, contusions and internal bleeding.

Paul Cambria, Manson's lawyer, responded that "all the people there dispute these claims. It sounds to me like someone interested in publicity." Marks' lawyer, Edward Davis, said, "Craig Marks and Spin feel strongly that violence is never an accepted way for performers to express their views."
Though we reported a little of this from yesterday, the rest of the article can be found here.

On another note, excite.com has a funny poll that they are conducting about manson's alleged spin attack here.
Thanks a lot to: james and robbie for the poll.

Just a Manson joke on an HBO special...

The season finale of Mr. Show with Bob and David this week (4th-10th) on HBO featured a sketch with a "Marilyn Monster" in which he first pours (what looks like) blood on himself on stage, then opens a pizza parlor (sic). It's probably the most tasteful (if you could ever call Mr. Show tasteful) joke on Manson yet. It will probably play again this weekend if you're up around midnight with nothing to do.

I have a pretty cool story I'm working on about the first amendment. Manson was brought up on C-SPAN yesterday and I taped it (lucky for me I was bored all day, damn snow got me stuck in the house) I'll use it on my next update some time soon. There's a lot to it and I don't have hours to work on it just yet, sorry. But it's really good and I hope everyone watches it, because even I learned a thing or two about this subject and that doesn't happen too much about Government, trust me...

I also have some information that I'm going to continue about the on going disucssions on the album reverting to a single album over a period of time. It's really nothing spectacular that must be said, but it can wait till later. I say that because it just talks about the pricing of the album that a viewer sent in yesterday.

I'd also like to mention that back in August I had a picture that some people sent us claiming that it was Danny Lohner and them all together. I noted on our updates that we had some exclusive information about him and the nin album around that time. Well, lucky for me after I got the images that month I never posted it because well... it just doesn't look like him. I know, I know... what a dumb picture. But I always had to think about the information. Well it turned out thanks to Allstarmag.com. We got a confirmation from Chris Vrenna and the image here is not Danny Lohner, like I speculated. So those who are reading that sent me the picture and your story, you can stop throwing your hissy fit about not seeing your name on the news... I know what you were trying to do and we confirm all our news. And to those who were waited patiently over the months to read nothing and got pissed at us, sorry if we mislead you... it was for the best.

More news later in the day...

Review of Trent Reznor's Mansion!

A new viewer to SLS was one of the many fortunate 200 people to enjoy the Preservation Resource Center (PRC) party at Trent Reznor's fully refurbished Greek Revival mansion on Friday, December 11th, 1998!

At this point we have one review and that is the first floor of Reznor's mansion. The second review is to be of the upstairs of the mansion. I've been told that the PRC parties usually have articles and pictures in a magazine called the New Orleans Magazine. We're looking into if any of their latest issues have an article or pictures of the mansion.

Double NIN Album A Possible Single Album Over Time?

For a few days now, we've been discussing news updated by a website called NOW.com (read our January 3rd & 5th updates). They stated that the new Nine Inch Nails album, "is tentatively titled The Fragile and tentatively scheduled for release in April, possibly as a double album, which might revert to a single album after a limited run." Well a viewer writes in with some pretty interesting information about the album reverting to just a single disc over a period of time... This is what she had to say...

I have some info that may shed some light on whether the new NIN cd will be a double disc release. My fiancee' is a supervisor in charge of media at a Best Buy(I'm not mentioning his name or which one just in case it hurts his postion at work). In their computer data base for upcoming releases they have two different bar codes for the new cd. One has the cd priced at 11.99 and the other at 18.99. This is consistant with idea that the double will be a limited release like the limited U2 double cd which is now out of print. The computer has 450 on order for this particular store. The date they have is April 30th, but before you get excited he says that is the date given to most big releases that have not been confirmed. They list this date because it is right before the next fiscal quarter and any record company with any sense would release it before then. But hey we are talking about perfection here and Trent will release it when he thinks it is done right.
First of all, the release date she gives, April 30th won't be the date it's released from the stores to the public. All albums are stocked and released on Tuesdays of each month, April 30th is a Friday. I'm going to call up my Uni Rep to see if I can some more sense out of this update...
Thanks a lot to: Kronos23.

Manson Keeping In Touch With His Fans

Manson will most likely be keeping in touch with his fans while on tour these next few weeks. I asked Interscope today if Manson would be going back online at his BBS Message Board on the official Marilyn Manson website like he used to before the start of his first leg of tours last year.

I was told, yesterday when he left for Japan, with him... Manson brought his Apple PowerBook G3 to possibly keep in touch with his online fans! So, for those who are frequent users on Manson's BBS message board, be sure to look out for him, as most of you know him on there as " Omega015"... because he'll be keeping in contact!

On other news, Allstarmag.com is reporting March as the month to kick off the co-headlining tour with Marilyn Manson, Hole and Monster Magnet in the US; according to their Geffen source here.

Currently Marilyn Manson is getting set to play their first sold out concert in the New Year over in Japan tomorrow! The following week they will be touring New Zealand and Australia for the Big Day Out Festival.

Manson's Attorney Begins To Speak Out About The Lawsuit

Sonicnet.com features some new information regarding Manson's attorney. This is practically a followup to Mtv's news update (which is featured a few updates below), but Sonicnet feature a lot more information... Things could get ugly, but Interscope explains to me they have everything under control... Below are a few snippets from Sonicnet's article:

"Our investigation has shown, to us at least, that this lawsuit is totally baseless," Manson's attorney, Paul Cambria, said. "Manson has instructed us to pursue our own lawsuit, or countersuit if you will, against this individual for defamation or abusive process. We're taking an aggressive stance with regard to this."

"I'm surprised by this whole thing," Cambria said. "All the individuals present have all been interviewed, and not one person described the events even close to the claims being made by this guy. It surprised me he would pursue this. Maybe this is his 15 minutes."
You can read the full article at Sonicnet.com.

Similar to the update above, here's another statement from Manson's lawyer...
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Police on Wednesday were searching for one of shock rocker Marilyn Manson's bodyguards, who a Spin magazine editor has sued for allegedly attacking him at Manson's behest. The editor, Craig Marks, 37, alleged that Manson's bodyguards attacked him after a recent show at a Manhattan club and filed a $24 million civil suit against the 30-year-old rock star, his two bodyguards, Aaron Dilks and Steve Miller, and Manson's record companies, Interscope Records Inc. and Nothing Records. Paul Cambria, Manson's lawyer, responded that ``all the people there dispute these claims. It sounds to me like someone interested in publicity.''
There will be a lot of news concerning this case and we will be on it 100%.

Bowling Green Album Release Date

The Bowling Green's album, "One Pound Note", has now been scheduled for January 19th and will have one track removed due to sample clearance problems. That track is "Gentlemen Reverse".

Manson's Attorney Speaks Up About SPIN's Lawsuit

Manson's attorney, says the multi-million lawsuit filed by the executive editor of SPIN magazine, Graig Marks, has made Marilyn Manson "un happy", reports Mtv news and could result in a countersuit.

Paul Cambria [Manson's lawyer] said to Mtv News that Manson has instructed his firm to investigate by launching a counterlawsuit, because Manson disputes Marks's allegations and considers it defamation.

Marks is only seeking a maximum of $1 million in compensatory damages and a minimum of $5 million in punitive damages, than the early reports explaining Marks' was asking for $24 million in damages, which a SPIN magazine spokesman told Mtv news yesterday the figure was inaccurate...

you can read the full report here.

Manson Climbing Back Up The Charts

Marilyn Manson is slowly climbing back up the charts, after weeks and weeks of slipping off the them, it appears he's slowly but surely trying to make one more pass up the rank, but can the album do it? Could it be all this recent news publicity that's slowly selling more albums? Well nearly a week ago, Manson reentered the top 100 charts from #105 to #95. This week Billboard.com will report Manson's Mechanical Animals at #84. That is 22 spots in about three weeks and 11 spots from last weeks position! Well what ever it is that is helping Manson sell more records, you know he's on the road entertaining the world day by day just for the fans... Lets hope Manson's album sells more than what the media make the album out to be...

On other news, I've decided to take a stand. For the past few weeks I've noticed that Mtv's "Total Request Live" (TRL) has been playing some down right crappy videos... But that's not their fault, it's the 'teeny bops' who sit around all day and redial that damn 1800 MTV number over and over again to vote for 'N Sync. So I figured, and thanks to Glen for submitting the graphic, that we should try something at least to see Manson make TRL for a few weeks, possibly in a row... But what sparked my interest more about doing this is yesterday in class a person I know totally dislikes what Manson stands for, but yet after seeing the video and listening to the song on the radio, "I Don't Like The Drugs (But The Drugs Like Me)" a few times, he really enjoys Manson's new music... which surprised me because the majority of my friends either like or dislike Marilyn Manson and he does not like Manson. So my point is, if people would just listen to the music in a sense of entertainment instead of the literal sense, I believe more people like this person would understand and enjoy Manson's album through his eyes...

So what you all can do is so simple turning off your computer would be a harder task to complete. All you need to do is simply click the graphic below this update and simply select Manson's "I Don't Like The Drugs(But The Drugs Like Me)."

Random Nothing News

There is a feature in the latest Maxim magazine on Manson, nothing important....

Do hideous looks equal rock credibility? Maxim asked Mac Fulfer, a professional facial analyst, to weigh in on six musical monstrosities. (the run down of the list is Black Crowes Chris Robinson; Aerosmith's Steven Tyler; kiss' Gene Simmons, Marilyn Manson; iggy pop, and Prodigy's Keith Flint)

Marylin Manson:

Mug meaning: "His convex profile [receding forehead and chin] shows he is quick of mind."

Our take (maxim): His convex profile shows he's sanded down his forehead and chin trying to get all that circus freak makeup off his face.
Thanks to: Retro646.

A viewer writes in that Much Music will have another spotlight on Marilyn Manson, if it's a rerun then don't worry about it... but if it's a new one that they are going to air, then look foward to it... I don't have Much Music so I wouldn't know...
Once again Much Music will have a spotlight on Marilyn Manson, this time it will be on January 27th. The spotlightwill be 30 minutes and I am not sure if it will include all the same things as the previous one. The spotlights usually include videos and interviews. I am hoping they will play I Dont Like The Drugs (But The Drugs Like Me) on the spotlight, because there has been many rumors that Much Music has banned the video. So they still havent played the newest video from Marilyn, lets just hope they will play it on the spotlight. The spotlight once again is on January 27th at 7:00 pm and 11:30 pm est.
Thanks to: sexless ape.

I may be home more than usual tomorrow. If I am, I'll begin work on editing the review of Trent's house by a new viewer who attended the PRC party at Trent's house in November.

More News On Manson & Hole Touring '99

Sonicnet.com featured an article today about the recent tour package for Marilyn Manson and Hole. Well, earlier today as you know we reported that Courtney Love stated, Manson and she made up from their little feuds they've been having and will be touring this year with Manson and his opening act Monster Magnet. So the rumored tour schedule is true and as of today there are no set dates or what size venues they will play...

Below are a few snippets from Sonicnet's article:

"Courtney [Love] and Hole will be touring with Manson," Hole spokesperson Gayle Fine said. "We don't know when it will start yet or what size venues they will play, though."

The announcement of the long-rumored pairing comes at an interesting point in the sometimes contentious relationship between Love and Manson (born Brian Warner). Just last month, Manson claimed in England's New Musical Express weekly that "Courtney never bothered to say hi to me until I sold a million records. She's an opportunist and I wouldn't consider her a friend ... the way she's behaved towards me in the media has seemed very exploitative."
Check Sonicnet.com for the full article.

Manson Makes Statements About His Recent Problems

Allstarmag.com features a cluster of statements featuring Marilyn Manson talking about his latest problems he has been having, such as the latest problem with SPIN magazine, the truth behind the trashing of the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, references to Mechanical Animals. Oh, and you can't forget the portion about his gift he bought himself over the Holidays!

Below are a few snippets from each of the articles that Manson speaks of when he chatted with Allstar, here

Manson makes an impressive statement about the media behind his latest album, Mechanical Animals with a comment about how it's compared to Anti-Christ Superstar and on their misleading beliefs. Here's a snippet from the article:

"I think this is probably a more terrifying version of what I suggested on Anti-Christ Superstar," observes Manson. "It's part of the mainstream now. My take on music has been [that] the most subversive thing you can do is write a pop song. When you become part of the mainstream, then you're saying something that the mainstream doesn't necessarily want to agree with. But they might agree with it by accident because they're humming along with one of your songs. That causes people to be nervous."
He's not angry about being dropped from his guarentee to be on the cover of the January issue of SPIN magazine! Manson is just fed up about all the bull they've been pulling over on their magazine... Allstarmag.com features the quick statement on their site, which is the second statement he has spoken publicly about... (the first was on his official marilynmanson.net website.)

Manson speaks the truth about the inccident that took place at the November 23rd concert at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center... below is just one of the many paragraphs on this subject and following this one at Allstarmag.com he talks about the Hotel trashing he did following the backstage trashing...
"For the record, what happened was an act of boredom," he says. "I heard the fire alarms go off, so I urinated on [the fire] to put it out. It was a very small fire so I could put it out with just a few squirts. The firemen came and said if it happened again they'd stop the show. I didn't care. I could stop the show myself.
And finally, Manson bought himself a gift over the Holiday season, find out why he bought himself it here.

On other news, Allstarmag.com asked a list of musicians here, as well as some producer/ remixer types, to list their Top 10 favorite albums of this year. Anyhow, Paul Wallfisch of Firewater chose his top 3 favorite albums of 1998:
1. Massive Attack, Mezzanine 2. Beck, Mutations 3. Marilyn Manson, Mechanical Animals

More News On Everlast and NIN Collaboration

Allstarmag.com has the same idea as I did on our January 4th update... Mtv news on January 4th featured some interesting news about Nine Inch Nails guitarist Danny Lohner, they explained that Everlast and Lohner are in their New Orleans studio working on their collaboration as of today... Anyhow, Allstarmag.com features some new information on the statues of the collaboration, which they also believe if this isn't on the new nin album, the collaboration may be on the nin Tapeworm album.... Who knows at this point..?

According to Everlast's manager, Corey Wagner of Deluxe Entertainment, it's not yet known where his track with Nine Inch Nails guitarist Danny Lohner will end up.

So far, Everlast has only laid down the first verse of his contribution and he and Lohner are trying to get together to finish the track as we type...

Manson and Hole Tour '99

Mtv's "Total Request Live" featured a quick phone interview with Courtney Love of Hole at 4:20pm EST and ending the quick interview she breifly mentioned that Marilyn Manson made up with Courtney Love and will tour together in '99 with Monster Magnet...

Click here [1 meg] to download the interview in real video format.

Below is the transcript of what Love had to say:

Carson: Courtney we have no more time, but thank you.
Courtney: [laughs] That was it and you were really nice to me?
Carson: Yeah, that's it! It's just a little live show here, you called in, we talked Grammy's, we couldn't be happier for you and your video is in the top 10 today! Congratulations!
Courtney: It is? And you know we are going to tour, you know who with right?
Carson: With Manson, right? Are you going to do that?
Courtney: Yeah, were going to do it.
Carson: Good, awesome. Is Monster Magnet going to be on the bill too?
Courtney: What?
Carson: Is Monster Magnet going to go too?
Courtney: Yeah, Brian Wants.. Yeah, Manson wants him on the bill and um, I guess we had a spat, but we made up.
Carson: Yeah, that's what I heard, he said on New Year's Eve that you guys were actually going to go out. So I hope that works out well for you.
Courtney: Like go out and make out?
Carson: Yeah, like.. No, like going on tour together.
Courtney: [Courtney in the background mumbling no, no, no.... about make out]
Carson: Alright.
Courtney: We like each other...
I gave a quick ring to Interscope today and they mentioned that, it's almost complete and it's most likely that Hole will tour with Manson and Monster Magnet this year. At this moment Manson is currently flying to Japan to play his January 8th, sold out concert in Tokyo, Japan... Following playing the rest of Japan and heading out to Australia to play at the Big Day Out Festival.

Mtv has been airing a news brief that has been airing every so often at 10 to the hour every hour which features a 5 second interview with Manson talking about this year's tour:
"... maybe some people like Courtney Love, I might decide to bring her along with me"
That comment came prier to the New Years Eve show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Following Manson's statement Mtv aired during the mtv news brief the promotional stunt with the smashing of the furniture...

Click here [1 meg] to download the mtv news brief in real video format which features the tour comment and scenes of the promotional stunt.

Also, in about 3 or 4 days we will be receiving the ABC news report about the promotional stunt and will be uploading it once we get it... it is said to feature a lot more than what we've seen before...

Manson Sued For $24 Million

The Associated Press feature some more new information about the the alleged Craig Marks attack from Manson's bodyguards...

The executive editor of Spin magazine has filed a $24 million lawsuit charging that two bodyguards for shock rocker Marilyn Manson beat him after the cross-dressing star threatened him.

Craig Marks, 37, said he was slammed against a wall and choked in a dressing room backstage at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom following Manson's Nov. 23 heavy metal rock performance there.

Just before the assault, Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, warned that ``he could kill Marks, his whole family, and everyone he knew,'' according to papers Marks filed Monday in Manhattan's State Supreme Court.

After the bodyguards released him, Manson told Marks, ``That's what you get when you disrespect me,'' the court papers say.

Manson's lawyer, Paul Cambria, denied that attack happened.

``Our investigations show all of these accusations to be totally groundless,'' he said. ``The witnesses sharply dispute Mr. Marks' account of what happened.''

Marks suggested that the attack stemmed from his magazine's decision to drop its tentative plan to feature Manson on Spin's January 1999 cover.

Marks filed a complaint with police. Police and Marks' lawyer, Edward Davis, said the complaint is under investigation and no one has been arrested.

Manson is on tour this month in Japan, New Zealand and Australia, his website says. The website also contains a statement that accuses Spin of bad faith and says the magazine does not respect musicians and their fans. It does not refer to the alleged assault.

Marks' lawsuit names Manson, his record companies -- Interscope Records Inc. and Nothing Records Ltd.; and the as yet unidentified agency that hired the two bodyguards. The lawsuit asks $1 million in compensatory damages and $5 million punitive damages from each defendant.

Manson Photos Of Las Vegas Show

I did some news searching this evening and I came across an online news website called Las Vegas Sun which features a whopping total of sixteen pictures of Manson, Twiggy, John 5 and Madonna Wayne Gacy performing at the sold-out concert on New Year's Eve, December 31, 1998 at The Joint inside the Hard Rock hotel-casino.

Also featuring at the site are three pictures of Manson tossing out a Les Paul guitar, a chair and a tv out the eighth floor window of the Hard Rock Thursday, December 31, 1998 during the hotel-casino's "topping off" of the $100,000 million, 340-room expansion tower. (scene on right)

I figured, I'd save you some time by linking them all: (these pictures are well worth the time to view or download)

Manson's 'Get Your Gun' Video On Beavis & Butthead

Mtv's famous cartoon show, Beavis & Butthead featured the rerun of Marilyn Manson's "Get Your Gun" video while giving their 'chit chat' reviews on the vids... I thought I would upload the video since it's news worthy and a little funny... I missed the first few seconds of it because I was caught off guard while working on some other updates... As well as Manson being nominated for a Grammy for 'The Dope Show' (read yesterday's news for more info). marilynmanson.net reports that Michael Beinhorn has received a Grammy nomination in the "Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical category for Celebrity Skin (HOLE) and Mechanical Animals (Marilyn Manson).

We reported on December 22nd that Redman f/ Method Man briefly mentions Marilyn Manson in the song "Well All Rite Cha" saying the words, "I be keepin it in the dope show like Marilyn Manson." You can find this off his new album, Doc's DA Name 2000 by the way...

Howard Stern seen wearing a Nine Inch Nails shirt, alright!!
On "E!" television channel, the one that airs the Howard Stern Show on tv, Howard was wearing a NIN shirt while he interviewed Jaid Barrymore, Drew Barrymore's mom. It was the black NIN shirt with the standard NIN logo in dark gray in the center of his chest. He was wearing a jacket on top of this shirt , so all you can see is the logo as Jaid sat on his lap. This was a two-part show that aired on Monday and Tuesday night @ 11:00pm eastern. It will be on again (I think, @ 2:00am Wednesday morning).

I was watching ET tonight and they had a segment on Leif Garrett. At the end they said he was doing music again. They showed a clip of him singing and he was with three guitar players. The last one was Zim Zum! They only showed this clip of him singing for about five seconds. For those people who want to see the (very) short clip, ET plays again at 2:05 tomorrow morning.
Check your local listings for correct showings those who want to stay and watch it! I'm not sure I'll be able to, I'm very tired...

Allstarmag.com features some new information about our December 15th update on Manson's Mechanical Animals movie script...

Here's a snippet from their article:

"[It's] going to start hopefully in May or June," says Manson. "It's in the tradition of Tommy and The Wall. But I think that I would compare it to a combination between [the 1968 film] Wild in the Streets '60s rock and roll and teen revolution and Naked Lunch."

For those who are would like to know the understanding of how the nominations are picked and chosen this is what I learned last year from Mtv.

Record companies and members of the "National Academy of Recording Arts and Science" submit legible recordings for consideration. For this years Grammy's that would mean records released during the Eligibility Year October 1, 1997 through September 30, 1998.

These submissions are then reviewed by a panel of 150 experts in various parts of the music industry to make sure that each entry is placed in its right category.

Next nominated ballots w/ lists of legible recordings go to all NARAS members- how ever members can only send back nominations in the 4 general categories of record, album, song of the year and best new artist 9 out of the 22 specific musical areas.

The Grammy people figure that this helps keep the "Polka" artists from deciding rap nominees and vice versa.

When the leading nominees are determined a final ballet goes out to NARAS members and in the final round members vote in the 4 general categories and in only 8 of the 22 music areas.
Thanks a lot to: Chaeign.

More NIN News On Reverting To Single Disc

I spoke to my uni rep yesterday about our January 3rd update on the "reverting of the nin album to a single album" and she explained to me how it goes... First off, a news website called NOW.com (which is the same company that is selling the music compilation "NOW" featuring main stream bands on your TV, most likely noticeable on MTV's five minute commercials every ten minutes...) stated originally when the new Nine Inch Nails album, tentatively labeled The Fragile is released, over a period of time it may revert to a single album. Whether this is or isn't true, who knows where NOW gets there information from... it means sometimes when bands release an album which carry more than one disc, after a limited time the record company stops the flow of the double album after a certain amount of quantities have been bought/ordered and from there, they revert the album to a single disc. For instance when a record store runs low of the specific album containing more than one disc and then orders more to keep the shelves stocked, the new quantities may or may not feature the double album as before the original set did! As for NIN's 1992 Broken album, it originally came with a mini disc with the EP containing the hidden tracks, "Physical" and "Suck." Then months following reverting the Broken CD itself featuring the mini disc tracks as hidden ones numbered at "98" and "99." Another example would be, U2's recent album featuring their greatest hits. It originally came with two discs, which now you can only pick up the album featuring a single disc... Other words, don't wait till the last minute, buy the new nin album when it is released... You never know...

SPIN Magazine Reports More On Attacks To Their Editors

In SPIN Magazine's February '99 issue, they have a full page article about their recent attacks by a few musicians that they have featured one time or another in their magazines. Everlast Records with Danny Lohner of NIN

Mtv news features some new information here that could pertain to the new nine inch nails album...

Also apparently in the works is an Everlast/Nine Inch Nails collaboration, which actually grew out of a session in November during which Everlast laid down some vocals with the Nails' Danny Lohner in the group's New Orleans studio. However, a spokesperson for Nine Inch Nails had no comment on whether Everlast's work would turn up on the new NIN record or some undetermined, unannounced future project.
Well, what's interesting is... Mtv said, "Everlast laid down some vocals with the Nails' Danny Lohner."Maybe that means Everlast might be a guest on the Nine Inch Nails side project Tapeworm, which also Phil Anselmo from Pantera and Page Hamilton from Helmet have contributed work from... or Lohner could have an album of his he's been working on... Only time will tell...

More On Manson Rampage At Las Vegas

Mtv News features some new information from our January 1st & 3rd update about Manson throwing furniture out his hotel window... Below are a few snippets:

As part of the evening's celebration -- and to help promote the recent expansion of the Hard Rock Hotel -- Manson got to partake in a little bit of senseless rock & roll violence, as Hard Rock promoters invited the star to hurl various items from one of the hotel's eighty-story windows.

"They were nice enough to ask me to break some of their stuff," Manson said of the Hard Rock-sponsored tirade, which lasted 15 minutes and drew about a hundred onlookers.

"Usually I have to pay for it. So, I can't pass up an opportunity to destroy things for free."

And despite statements from his managers to the contrary, Manson continued to joke about the possibility of a joint tour between his band and Hole sometime in the next year, even though he has recently slagged Love in the press

"[I'm planning] a big tour," he said, "with maybe some people like Courtney Love that I might decide to bring along with me."
Among other things that Manson tossed out the window other than a TV and a chair was a guitar. You can read the full mtv article here.

Video of Manson & Twiggy In Primus Home Video

On our December 30th update we featured an article about a small cameo Manson and Twiggy make in the new Primus home video... like we stated it isn't much, but we do have the real video of them in the their new video Videoplasty... It is a short segment which was filmed on the Sno-Core tour that Primus headlined in early '98.

Les Claypool, Primus singer, walks into the dressing room of Manson and Twiggy. After Manson realizes who it is, he says "I didn't recognize you" and Les says "I recongized you." Then Twiggy asks about Les' goatee. It's only about 35 seconds long and a little hard to hear what they're saying

Change Of Release For NIN Disc

An online magazine called NOW claims that over some time Nothing Records may change the new album to a single album... I'm not quite sure how or why they would do that... but take it as it is...

It's been five years since The Downward Spiral made industrial angst palatable for the masses, and Trent Reznor's follow-up opus is definitely due. And yet, all we know now is this -- the new disc is tentatively titled The Fragile and tentatively scheduled for release in April, possibly as a double album, which might revert to a single album after a limited run. Steve Albini has some ill-defined role in the process, though guest appearances by King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew, Helmet members Page Hamilton and John Stainer, Ministry's Bill Rieflin and Smashing Pumpkins touring keyboardist Mike Garson are apparently confirmed. As for what turn the music will take, your guess is as good as ours.

Manson Throwing His Furniture

We featured an update about Marilyn Manson smashing tv's and throwing chairs out of hotel windows on January 1st some time around his New Years Eve performance. Fortunately, just like our November 28th update we were able to feature pictures of his last rampage at the Pou ghkeepsi Civic Center. Well this month just as we stated above we have a picture him doing just that, throwing furniture out the windows. The picture is a little grainy as you can see, it appears to be taken with a computer camera...

Thanks a lot to: BMoss81573 for the pic.

KROQ Nine Inch Nails Confusion

It seems that the LA based KROQ Radio is jumping the gun and confusing some types that they'll feature new Nine Inch Nails before anyone else. Well that's what their new ads are claiming...

You can download the commercial here [97 k] in real audio format that the radio station has been airing all weekend.. Hopefully this should help the confusion with yesterday's KROQ update....

I just called KROQ to ask them about this whole NIN thing. The guy said basically they don't have any songs yet but they were just annonucing the upcoming release and they hope to have it in the first half on '99.

Rolling Stone Music Awards

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone featuring the Beastie Boys on the cover.. Marilyn Manson's The Dope Show is voted as the best video for 1998 on page 45.

Puaul Hunter, Director, "The Dope Show"
"My favorite part was the stuff with him on television, because that was just me and him in his living room, messing around with a video camera. I expected him to be this really dark, scary guy, but I found him to be very shy. The first time I went to his house, it was just him and Twiggy and his dogs. We sat on the floor and looked through abstract-art books and these really odd European movies. He's one of the smartest people I've worked with in a while."
In this issue as well, "Mechanical Animals" was given the very unspecific title of one of the "Albums That Mattered in 1998." However, the re-review was quite unflattering:
Marilyn Manson doesn't do anything that someone -- Alice Cooper, Jane's Addiction, Einsturzende Neubauten and, in the case of Mechanical Animals, David Bowie -- hasn't done before or better. Manson's genius is packaging. This year he ditched the necrophiliac swamp-zombie shtick and buffed himself up as a marble androgyne, an Aladdin Sane for the Howard Stern era. It is a brilliant disguise and the perfect visual complement to an album based on the idea that there is no truth in beauty, and that plastic success, just like dope and twisted sex, can suck you bone dry. So what if songs like "The Dope Show" and "Posthuman" aren't as memorable as the window dressing? There are times in rock when concept is nine-tenths of the vibe. Enjoy the spectacle before Manson's moment is up. -D.F.
Also in this issue, Manson made Rolling Stone's Best Dressed category (he won both the critics and readers poll). The Readers Poll section on page 48 votes Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals as the 'Best Album Cover' and on page 92, Mechanical Animals makes #5 on the Rolling Stone's Readers Top 20 albums. He also finished second to Pearl Jam in "Best Rock Band" and Manson made 1998's "Year's Biggest Hype" beating the Presidential scandal. Also, in the section where respected artists pick their top 5 albums of the year, Ozzy Osbourne made Mechanical Animals as his number 1 choice, and Christopher Schneider of Rammstein listed it at number 5.

Jawbreaker Movie Screen Shot

There is a small movie shot of Rose McGowan's upcoming movie Jawbreaker in the latest issue of Rolling Stone on page 17, in the Random Notes section...

No Aliens, no homicidal maniacs and no one from the WB- and you say it's a teen movie? Yes- it's the best since Heathers. Jawbreaker is a stylish dark comedy about three Úberpopular gals who accidentally murder a friend during a birthday prank. Oops. Julie Benz (left) plays the chilly blond, Rebecca Gayheart (center) plays the good girl, and Rose McGowan is the evil Courtney Shane (there's a change of pace). "I didn't want to play another bitchy character," McGowan says, "until I read the script. She's just the ultimate. But I can give her a run for the money in the ballsy department. I think it's time somebody gave bad girls a chance. " Um.. not you, Mr. President.
I will be covering the news on this film till the day of it's release, February 19th. So if you have any information... please submit it... For those interested in reading our review of the film from a source of ours, please read our December 15th update... It talks about the controversial sex scene between Manson and his girlfriend McGowan in the film.

I do recall from months back that Manson said on his online interview that their official site marilynmanson.net was to feature exclusive snap shots of the film later in time. Hmm.....

Rolling Stone Talks About Manson's Craig Marks Inccident

Also in the new Rolling Stone issue, they feature an article on page 22 about the Craig Marks inccident... nothing amazingly new that we haven't read enough from November, but they do feature some comments from some important people...

On November 23rd, Craig Marks, executive editor of the music magazine Spin, was invited backstage following Marilyn Manson's show at the Hammerstein Ballroom, in New York. Within moments of greeting Manson, Marks claims he was grabbed by the neck, lifted off his feet and slammed into a dressing-room wall by Manson's bodyguards while the singer, apparently seething about not gracing Spin's January cover, thundered that he could kill Marks and that the magazine needed to show the singer more respect. The next day, Marks decided to press charges, basing his decision on recent assaults against fellow editors at the Miller Publishing Group. 'Thinking about the sequence of events with Jesse [Washington, of Blaze] and Danyel [Smith, of Bive], I decided to do whatever I could do to make all this stupid shit stop," he says.

"It's always been unthinkable to attack the press," says Timothy White, editor of Billboard and a music journalist since 1973. "These [artists] have such a sense of entitlement. If they think brutalizing people is a form of personal aggrandizement, they deserve to be behind bars."

Adds Spin editor in chief Michael Hirschorn, 'This was a rather desperate act by a guy who's coming to the of his time in the spotlight." He notes that Spin has written favorably about Manson, even selecting Manson's Mechanical Animals as one of 1998's best albums. And the magazine, like Rolling Stone and others, has championed Manson in his battle with critics who have tried to censor his controversial music.

Neither Manson nor his publicist would comment. But in a statement following the meeting with Marks, Manson, who denies the attack, insisted he was simply responding to "Spin's immature business behavior and the series of deals they had broken with me." Marks confirms that a week before Mechanical Animals. was release, the magazine offered to put Manson on the January 1999 cover. But two weeks later, Spin decided Manson's sales were too sluggish and dropped the idea.

"Either you make a promise to an artist, or you don't," says one rock-music attorney. "If anything physical happens [to Marks], it never should have. That's wrong. But artists often can't speak out about how the press treats them or how they've been treated by editors."

Update On Manson T-Shirt Case

More updates about those Marilyn Manson T-shirt problems... This in from Daily Yahoo news..

Obscenity Conviction Appealed - (BENTON) -- The American Civil Liberties Union is appealing the obscenity conviction of a Benton woman. Venus Morgan was arrested this past spring because she wore a Marilyn Manson tee-shirt to the ``Tater Days'' festival. The shirt carried the lyrics to the rock group's song... ``White Trash.'' A-C-L-U attorney David Harshaw says Morgan's attire may have been offensive... but it's an issue of free speech.

Manson New Year Eve Review

Here's a review of Manson's New Years Eve show at the Joint December 31st, 1998.

well, here's my account of the new years eve show at the hard rock.  everyone pretty much knows how the show plays out so I'll just tell everyone my first hand account of what was *special* about this show.  the show was going as I suspected until rock 'n' roll nigger came on.  in the middle of the intro Marilyn stops the song and tells the crowd "I don't think you are ready for this one".  points out some guy in the front center and says something to the sort of "we're not gonna play to everyone spits in his face".  what a sight that was to see a circle of people spitting on this guy. then Marilyn tells the guy to come up there and suck his dick.  as the guy tries to get to the stage the security guards grab him.  Marilyn then says "that's $99 out the door, bitch"  I just busted up laughing after Marilyn called him a bitch.  security then hauled that asshole out of the show.  about five minutes before midnight the stage lights turn on and Marilyn comes back to say "this one's for rose".  our treat for the new year was an acoustic version of "the last day on earth".  for our second encore, irresponsible hate anthem Marilyn sings a few verses then brings out the American flag.  He places the flag on the mic stand, douses it in lighter fluid then sets it on fire.  The rest of the mechanical animals just go nuts and start breaking everything in sight.  When the flag burst into a huge flame a roadie came out to try to smother the fire.  While he's doing that twiggy tries to help him and slams his bass on the fire.  ginger then tries to get down to the stage by hopping over his broken drum kit.  He gets his foot caught in one of the smashed drums, trips and falls flat on his face. Twiggy turned around, looked at him, gave the birdie and left.  Poor Ginger was just lying on the ground for a few minutes then about three roadies came out.  They checked him out for a minute, the lights go off and Ginger is carried away... it was the best manson show I've seen so far.  I was even able to get a few souvenirs.  Me and my friend Tara were able to get two of Twiggy's guitar picks.  It's a purple pick w/ the omega logo on one side and on the alternate side it says "twiggy" in a mickey mouse type font.  I was also able to get part of one bible pages that Marilyn ripped during acs.  a true souvenir there...
Thanks a lot to: revelation9.

Manson Vandalizes Las Vegas Hotel

On New Years Eve, ABC news at 11:00pm mentioned Marilyn Manson "back at it again"showing some great footage of what went on. ABC tracked him down in the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino last night. Most of it was Marilyn and some friends throwing chairs and tv's out the Hotels window. They also interviewed him talking about his destructivness, here's what came from ABC:

Marilyn - "I think it's when they asked me to break some of their stuff, I usually have to pay for it so I can't pass up an oppurtunity to destroy things if it's free."

ABC - And so destroy he did. Marilyn Manson mangled one of the rooms of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino by tossing it's contents right out the window. This is a classic "out with the old, in with the new" publicity stunt. The Hotel is adding new rooms so Marilyn was just helping take out the trash so to speak. He's also the hotel's New Years Eve headliner.

Marilyn - "There's no better place because it's kind of the center of evil, Las Vegas. They need me here."

ABC - But do we need to see this at the rear of this year?(showing a full body shot of Marilyn's average day outfit revealing his rear end)

Marilyn - "Well hopefully the world won't last another year, I was hoping it would be ended by now, but it's not so I'm gonna have to start another one."

ABC - So a toast to 1999 as Marilyn strikes a pose with some of his newest, and dear I say hippest, fans.

What you see through this little discussion is footage of Marilyn completely trashing furniture and tv's, Marilyn up in the window of the hotel addressing himself as the president(well at least he looks like it), Marilyn with a bunch of middle-aged men(probably the hotel/casino workers), a giant banner for Marilyn's New Years Eve performance and Marilyn talking to the camera man. I recorded it if anyone wants to know more....although there isn't much more... It was worth seeing.
Thanks a lot to: Elan.

Random Nothing News

Fox Files loves to focus on violence... and they always seem to use Nothing Records bands more than any other music choice! Hmmmm....

Yesterday's showing of Fox Files at 9:00 played a short blurb of "Acid Again" by Meat Beat Manifesto during the intro of the show. The news program also featured a piece about Jim Rose and showing some clips off Nine Inch Nails: Closure. They also featured the cool smash seen of the 'Exit' sign. But that's not all... during the segment of the growing numbers of suburban gangs. The story was about some young kids willingly get gang-banged, jumped, or kill people, as part their initiation. After they showed a guy beating the shit out of his pregnant girlfriend in front of his chuckling friends, Fox Files played the first 30 seconds of the beautiful people while some hick got jumped in a field.
I guess, violence sells!

Just a nin mention....
There was a brief mention of NIN on a TV show "The Nanny" 2 nights ago (Dec 30, 6.00pm EST, UPN 33).The little girl Margaret was complaining about missing a NIN concert. I'm curious how long ago this show was made as to what tour they were referring to. Anyway, that's all.
