NIN Remix EP: Danny Lohner To Contribute We're In This Together Remix

Featured in the latest issue of "Visions" music magazine (Issue #88) is a free CD, which includes video clips of NIN's "Starsuckers, Inc." and A Perfect Circle´s "Judith". The brief interview with Danny Lohner, about the upcoming Nine Inch Nails EP release, which we've been talking about for sometime, confirms our June 17th headline "New NIN EP In Six Weeks, Metal To Be Included." The seven- and- a- half- minute version of Gary Numan's "Metal," will be featured among the other remixs, along with a remix of "We're In This Together" by Lohner himself on the first EP, but no further unreleased Fragile material.

Thanks a lot to: nils.

Lost Weekend Webcast, Radio1 Live Performance

According to the official Lost Weekend website, which Nine Inch Nails headline on July 1st, there is to be an online webcast of some type from the Done and Dusted website. Their Lost Weekend section of the site, is FLASH extensive, so make sure you have it already installed in your browser. By this time, it shouldn't be a problem if you have access to the official NIN site.

Just as we mentioned on June 28, you can listen to the live performance of Nine Inch Nails on Radio1 via the Radio1 website. You need JavaScript and RealPlayer. Remember, midnight Tuesday GMT time.

Thanks a lot to: Decay.

Kerrang Magazine Interviewed Trent Reznor

Trent Reznor graces the cover of the latest issue of Kerrang magazine, which won't hit America stands until next week. On the right is a scanned cover of the UK issue and below are a few blurbs from Trent Reznor, explaining what fans can expect out of NIN's headlining performance at this weekends Lost Weekend festival at London Arena, and Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit commenting about Trent.

"I don't want to do the standard "rock band in a hockey arena" show, I want to up the par a little bit. I think our stage show has a lot of thought put into it, it's not like a Korn or Rob Zombie show where they just go to the prop cupboard and pull out as much shit as they can. I hope when people see our shows they go, "Fuck that was smarter than that Korn tour I saw but not in a pretentious way, it kicked ass!". On our previous tour the audience was our enemy but this time around we're best friends with the audience at the end of shows, everyone's connected."
Also in the magazine Fred Durst and Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit talked a little about Trent and The Fragile:
Durst: "When you become famous, and you do something everyone recognizes you for, everyone is going to have their opinion" he says, "and they're going to analyze your life, because it doesn't happen to everybody. I've accepted that. But Trent Reznor must think about me everyday!" he smiles, "I must take up 80% of his life. It sucks for somebody to hate someone they don't even know for no reason."

"It's really weird" agrees Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland, perching beside Durst, "Because no one's talking about The Fragile now, which is a great record. Reznor's promoting everybody to hate Limp Bizkit and Fred, but if I were him I'd be trying to promote my own album." "I would never do anything to hurt the guy's career" mutters Durst, somewhat threateningly. "Even with me being an executive at his record company."

Also notable topics in the new interview, besides the entourage of Trent Vs Fred feuds, but interviews with Charlie Clouser, Danny Lohner, Robin Finck, Jerome Dillon, and issues such as tapeworm, the fragile, the festival tour, starsuckers video, self-destruction tour, Marilyn Manson and more...

Thanks a lot to: Mr Pogo.

MDFMK Comment About NIN Opening Slot

Robert, a long time friend to SLS News, attended the MDFMK show in San Francisco the other night and mentioned the whole NIN/opening slot issue to Tim Skold and Lucia Cifarelli. Oddly enough, Robert explained it was the first time they had heard of it. "I was hanging out with Tim and Lucia mostly and talked with Lucia about it at length (it also didn't hurt that she was really attractive)," he said. "She thought it was also really good idea and everyone was excited that it was at least a rumor." Interesting...

Dr Dre Comments about NIN Collaboration

French Magazine "Rock n Folk" featured a Dr Dre interview, which the journalist asked Dre about the Nine Inch Nails collaboration he did with Trent for the Fragile.

"He first called me to advise on one track but, after three days in its studio, we decided to record one title together to see if we could make it together a bit more... [laughs] Well even if the result was really bad, we discovered that we had complementary talents, and we'll go back to its studio when his and my tour will be finished."

Thanks a lot to: matthieu.

Randy Bachman a Nine Inch Nails Fan

Featured in an article on the Guess Who's cross-Canada revival tour in the Edmonton Journal. The section about how the band has (or hasn't) been keeping up with recent music featured this interesting tidbit:

"[Randy] Bachman says his kids keep him young with new music, which apparently includes Nine Inch Nails, for whom the old professor expresses admiration."
In the Edmonton Sun, there was a quote from Bachman himself. He had this to say:
"My daughter started playing Nine Inch Nails over and over until I said to myself: OK, I really like this. They're amazing."
Check out a quick BIO on Randy on the official site.

Four Page Trent Reznor Interview on Apple.com

Found over on the Hot News section of Apple.com is a massive four page exclusive interview with Trent Reznor. Many notable topics Trent mentioned in the interview by Stephanie Jorgl is an upcoming DVD release of the Fragility tour, possibly scoring the upcoming Doom feature, and how much of an utter Mac purist he really is... The interview also features a few QuickTime VR videos of Nothing Studios, a live video clip performance of "Starfuckers, Inc." and because Apple uses QuickTime and fast media servers, the full-length music video download for "Starsuckers, Inc." looks and sounds great.

Below is a blurb from the article:

Then he confides that he's been talking to John Carmack about scoring the music for a new version of Doom. "I would do something like that mainly because it's a hobby of mine, I appreciate the technology, and it's fun to work outside Nine Inch Nails once in a while."

"Quake was fun because they didn't want hard-rock goofy music going through the game," explains Reznor, "it was all about atmosphere at the time."

Manson & Courtney Love Comment About Starsuckers, Inc. Video

Featured in the August 2000 issue of Spin magazine is an extremely brief interview with Marilyn Manson backstage following the sold out Madison Square Garden performance with Trent Reznor last month. Manson briefly comments about the fake Courtney Love in the video and his new album:

Backstage Pass
Back In Black

His ill-fated flirtation with silver jumpsuits and rubber boobs behind him, Marilyn Manson has returned to his dark roots. Maybe his fashion awakening is due to his much-publicized reunion with mentor Trent Reznor. "I'm so goth, I'm black!" joked Manson when cornered at the VIP bar at the after-party for Nine Inch Nails' sold-out Madison Square Garden show in May. The man who proclaimed rock dead just last year will launch another attack on TRL-style mediocrity with the fall release of a new studio album, Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death). "Sound Scan figures don't matter if you can write real songs. I produce chaos," he said. Despite that, Manson radiated the inner serenity of a Tinseltown lama as he held court for a group of gorgeous goth girls and celebs like Art Alexakis, Everlast, director John Waters, writer Bret Easton Ellis, and actor Casey Affleck. "It's good to be back," he declared. Despite his apparent rehabilitation, Manson managed to get in a dig at ex-tourmate Courtney Love (who is depicted as an obese plastic-surgery disaster in NIN's latest video, "Starsuckers, Inc."). "Courtney promised she'd lose some weight for the role," he quipped. Reached for comment, Love laughed and said, "I'm nine feuds past him. Now I'm feuding with Tom Green, Russell Crowe, and Chris Rock. I can't even remember that feud. It's so old school."

The photo insert is the same of Manson and Trent found in the latest Rollingstone Magazine, but without Trent giving the bird.

Thanks a lot to: Crystal.

Special Demystifying the Devil DVD Features

For those who are interested in knowing more about the DVD of Demystifying the Devil, listen up because it comes with a lot of extra features than the videocassette, which you can preorder through Weathermen Records on July 11th.

Included with the DVD is a special 20-minute bonus segment featured with an exclusive interview and never before seen footage of Marilyn Manson's 2nd bass player, Brad Stewart, aka Gidget Gein. Gidget, joined Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids after their 2nd live performance, replacing Olivia Newton Bundy. He stayed in the band for about four years or so and helped write and recorded on all the songs on Portrait of an American Family, as well as helping create the image that has become a part of Marilyn Manson. Gidget was fired from the band right after Portrait was completed because of his battling problems with drug addiction. He never got to tour with the band. So, for the first time ever, Gidget Gein is captured on camera and speaks about his times as a part of one of the most controversial bands in the history of rock and roll exclusively for the DVD version of Demystifying The Devil.

Marilyn Manson Not To Tour Family Values

Good news... It seems the rumors about Marilyn Manson negotiating to tour this year's Family Values tour are not true, says manager Tony Ciulla. Rollingstone online had this to say yesterday via newsletter about Manson's new album and it's rumored release date:

Although reports surfacing about a new Family Values tour this fall have listed Marilyn Manson as a potential headliner, manager Tony Ciulla insists that the band is too busy recording their next album to tour in the immediate future. "I can tell you Manson has no touring plans for this summer or fall," Ciulla told Rolling Stone. Interscope Records does not have the record on its current schedule, but "Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death)" is rumored to be released in time for Halloween.

BBC Aired NIN's Hurt From the Glastonbury Festival

Unfortunately, the BBC only aired "Hurt" from the Glastonbury Festival last night, which outraged a viewer who waited all day to see NIN perform as others did as well.... "I waited all night for the advertised performance by NIN and have been bitterly disappointed as they only showed one song (Hurt)," said Decay. "This is typical of BBC's attitude toward non-commercial music and I would really like it if all UK NIN fans besieged the BBC with complaints," explained Decay. "For reference, groups like the Chemical Brothers (also headlining) got about 4 tracks aired, while Macy Gray got about 6, and she wasn't headlining any of the 7 stages. All in all a huge fuck up by the BBC," he continued. "Also the presenters showed their disdain for NIN by trying to ignore the fact that they were headlining," he said. All is not bad news though. The Radio 1 Rock show is trying to get permission to air the gig, and Decay is off to London next week to see NIN in the full.

MDFMK Expressed Interest to Open for Nine Inch Nails This Fall

A viewer who goes by Down1nit, met up with MDFMK before the taping of the show "Jimmy and Doug's Farmclub" on FarmClub.com and mentioned NIN's upcoming US Fall tour to them.

"It was suggested by myself and some close friends of mine that MDFMK try to book themselves as a possible opening act for NIN upon their "return" to the US," said Down1nit. "The band members said that this was a very good idea and that it may happen if Trent would go along with it," explained Down1nit. "This is solely a possibility," he added, "but Sascha and Tim are good at keeping up their ends of the ropes."

Manson's Writing On The Wall

Manson was seen drawing on a photo of Bill Clinton at the Cafe des Artistes in L.A, which was reported in this weeks "US Weekly." Below is the article:

"We don't think Marilyn Manson will be contributing to Bill Clinton's presidental library anytime soon. At Cafe des Artistes in L.A. recently, the shock rocker walked over to the wall of celebrity signatures, which includes Clinton's, drew a picture of a sperm pointing at Clinton's name and wrote COMMIE in big letters, much to the amusement of his girlfriend, Rose McGowan, and fellow diner Sally Kirkland. The restaurant's management hurriedly erased Manson's graffiti."

The Denver Post Interviewed Trent Reznor & Pepsi Center Newspaper Review

Fragility v2.0 packed its bags at the Pepsi Center on Sunday night, but that didn't stop Trent Reznor from another interview. The Denver Post interviewed the visionary behind NIN, prior to the concert in Denver CO, which he spoke about the recording of the Fragile, the connection he gets with the audience after each night, touring with Marilyn Manson & Jim Rose Circus, including the "unplugged" radio show they performed weeks ago.

Below is a blurb from the interview:

"You go on stage, and you give yourself away every night, feeling like everyone's here to see you. But you walk off stage and you're the loneliest guy in the world because you're detached - you're not part of the experience of seeing it." The high point of the shows is the plaintive final tune, the hushed "Hurt." "Everybody's singing along, and I walk off stage and I feel positive," Reznor says.

"At the end, I feel like everybody in the audience is my friend - we've gone through a battle and come out the other side. In the past, it had more of a confrontational vibe. We assaulted the audience, and they assaulted us back. This time it transcends that. By the encore, it seems like I want to invite everybody over to my house and sit around ... it's a strange connection that I don't remember being there, a vulnerability that wasn't apparent last time around."

Check out the full interview here: Nails singer turns self-doubt into success.

While you're on DenverPost.com, check out the final concert review by staff writer Eric L. Reiner, which he compliments the lighting, the performance, the reaction from the crowd and even the consistent smashing at the instruments.

Manson and Durst Mentioned in Electric Hellfire Club Chat

Thorn later went on to state that he might appear on the wrestling show for ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) which has also featured NIN enemy Fred Durst. When asked if he would like to Kick Fred Durst's ass on the program, Thorn laughed and mentioned that that wouldn't be such a bad thing. The Electric Hellfire Club will appear on the Nine Inch Nails Tribute Covered In Nails: Vol II covering Heresy. For more information please visit www.CleoRecs.com.

New Tapeworm Info Concerning Pantera

Brad Harris and a couple of his friends patiently waited around after the final show in Denver in hope to meet Nine Inch Nails. "We waited for two hours, and after being harassed by security and having numerous threats of calls to the police thrown at us," he mentioned, "all of the members of A Perfect Circle came out to greet the crowd of about 30 people, who were left," he explained. "Robin Finck eventually showed up to sign autographs, and about a half an hour after that Trent and Charlie Clouser came out as well." Brad continued, "Trent was about as cool as it gets and took the time to come out and greet all of us." Brad asked Charlie about Tapeworm, and he told him that it was sitting on his computer and he had recently worked with Maynard on a few things. "My buddy asked him about working with Phil from Pantera [on Tapeworm] and he said that he had about two tracks done with him and hoped to get him to sing more." The most exciting of all, "Charlie hinted about the strong possibility of a fall tour," explained Brad.

Trent Reznor Vs. Fred Worst, errr, Durst, Volume 2

At this Saturday's Los Angeles KROQ Weenie Roast (KROQ are the same people who sponsored the Private Dress Rehearsal at the Grand Olympic Auditorium), Fred Durst of Lame Spastic fame held a private little listening party backstage for a few friends and KROQ DJs. The song he was featuring was recently recorded and apparently written about his arch-rival Trent Reznor.

"Apparently," added Faulkner7, "he's into breaking some world record, he says the word "fuck" 47 times or something." It was announced by the morning DJs, Kevin and Bean at KROQ.

New SLS New Web Design Coming Soon

For the past few weeks, I've been involved with some major web design courses, which will last me through out this year. Fortunately, with my back to back hourly studying, it's all going to pay off very shortly with a new dramatic web design upgrade. SLS News, has been a standard fan-based website with a cheesy design for nearly three years and it's finally going to make a wave with a harder, more professional, and "edgy" revamp (so to speak), which you the viewers have wanted for quite some time now. The new design will feature individual article pages, a search engine, quicker loading time, and more interactivity to just name of few. As time progresses I'll post some versions of the upgrade as Jared (the graphic artist) and I press on....

Trent Reznor Hooked Up with Fight Club Author Chuck Palahniuk

According to the local Portland indie paper Willamette Week, Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk hooked up with Trent Reznor on Saturday night at the aftershow party in Portland, Oregon. Found in the News Buzz section on the official site, is the following article about Trent Reznor said to score Palahniuk's latest novel "Survivor" for a motion picture.

Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk has long been a rabid fan of Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor. Apparently the love is shared. Last Saturday, Palahniuk was an honored guest of the brooding one backstage after the concert. The two talked for hours and agreed that Reznor should write the score for Survivor, the next Palahniuk tome headed for the big screen, currently in the works at 20th Century Fox.
In related news, Nine Inch Nails was a major influence on Palahniuk while writing Fight Club, which turned into a movie by David Fincher; now on video and DVD. "I listened to The Downward Spiral and Pretty Hate Machine constantly while I was writing Fight Club," Palahniuk said to Spin Magazine (Jan/2000). "The lyric, 'I hurt myself today/To see if I still feel' might as well have been one of the novel's mantras." Trent made a reference to Fight Club in the Yahoo chat late last year, and Chuck Palahniuk was also allegedly offered the job of writing the tour booklet for Fragility v2.0, but had to turn it down because he was just finishing up with his fourth novel...

Back on subject, the Survivor movie has been confirmed to have Jack Paltrow (Gwenyth Paltrow's brother) pen the screenplay, and rumored to be a Jerry Bruckheimer project, as well as having the lead being an interest of the likes of Jim Carrey. In other words, this could be huge!

The wheels have been turning for a working movie script and its been on the Hollywood Stock Exchange for awhile, according to the official Chuck Palahniuk website: www.chuckpalahniuk.net.

To explain a little bit about the story, it's about a survivor of a suicide/apocalypse cult that ends up becoming a huge televangelist. Then believed to be a murderer, so he hijacks a plane and dictates his story into the black box before the plane crashes into the Australian outback....

Thanks a lot to: grant, AresArrow.

Trent Reznor Holds PROMAX Convention At Nothing Studios

New Orleans' Times-Picayune featured an article on Friday (June/16) about a Jazz event held at Trent Reznor's Nothing Studios on magazine street. In an event to help promote the most advanced studio in the Big Easy for its recent commercial conversion, Trent and Man Made Music, a New York company that supplies original music to television shows, staged a charitable event during this week's PROMAX convention.

According to the Times-Picayune, Friday night's event hosted a benefit for the Louis Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp, the annual camp that nurtures the talents of budding local jazz musicians and has boasted the likes of Wynton Marsalis as guest instructors.

Although a jazz camp student ensemble performed at the event, which is open to PROMAX attendees and invited guests, Trent didn't attend, because they are still on tour.

Ryan explained, "He told us that Metal will be featured on his new EP, which should be in stores in 6 weeks!"

Witness attended the Nine Inch Nails show at the Thomas & Mack center in Las Vegas on June 2nd and snuck around the back following the concert to get autographs from the band.

"Trent left early," he added, "so no one got to meet him." Witness explained, "The rest of the band came out and were all cool as hell, especially Charlie who stuck around to talk to a bunch of fans." Charlie mentioned Tapeworm a bit and said that it was currently sitting on his computer somewhere.

"I asked about Chino Moreno of the Deftones," he added, "because the new deftones stuff is awesome and I wanted to know for sure if Chino was going to be doing something with Tapeworm," explained Witness. Charlie said, "I hope so. Right now I'm working things out with management, trying to make it happen." Charlie mentioned to us that "it's either to remix/or some collaboration..."

Jerome Dillon Inteview by Salt Lake's Deseret News

Fans of nine inch nails' drummer Jermoe Dillon, or fans who just like to read the consistent NIN interviews, can find yet another interview from the band, but this time on Salt Lake's Deseret News website when Jermoe called from a Las Vegas tour stop! In this new interview, it talks about Marilyn Manson and how he was banned from opening for NIN, ripping up the Book Of Mormon, auditioning for NIN and bit more...

Howlin' Maggie was Dillon's rude awakening into big-label politics. "We kind of signed our own death note. We were so close as a band and as friends that we didn't manage things well. We had no cohesive idea of what we were supposed to do as a band."

Then he got a call about a job in Nine Inch Nails. "I packed up my stuff and headed down to New Orleans where the band was getting ready to record 'The Fragile.' "

After the first audition, Dillon was asked back. "The second audition was basically me sitting down and talking with the other guys in the band. It was more like how I would get on with them and how they would get on with me. After it was over, I was asked to be in the band." The drummer even found himself part of the recording process for the new NIN album, "The Fragile."

"I'm still not sure how many songs I played on, but I do know that I was on the track, 'We're In This Together,' " Dillon said with a laugh.

David Carson Interview On Adobe.com

Adobe.com sat down with the artistic genious behind the Fragile artwork, David Carson to talk about his latest book, "Fotografiks." In contrast to Carson's usual type-intensive offerings, "Fotografiks" features a series of layouts based on Carson's own photography, with text by Philip Meggs. The four page interview briefly mentions The Fragile and features a few photos from his latest book, which I highly recommend, that can be found on The Fragile.

Thanks a lot to: Matt Yohe (BuzzBin).

The Georgia Straight Interviewed Trent Reznor

Every Thursday, the Georgia Straight delivers an award-winning editorial package of features, articles, news and reviews. Featured in this weeks issue of Vancouver's News & Entertainment Weekly is an interview with Trent Reznor by John Lucas. Below is a caption from the interview from the official site: www2.mybc.com/aroundtown/straight/.

MUSIC: Money hasn't bought Trent Reznor happiness, but it's given the man behind Nine Inch Nails the freedom to challenge himself. By John Lucas

Covered In Nails: Pig's Cover of "Head Like A Hole" Online

Found over on the official Pig website is the their cover of NIN's "Head Like A Hole." Maintained by Maime, thesickcity.com is under scrutiny this month by Ramond Watts (Pig) and Bryan Black (haloblack) and features legitimate mp3's, and soon video, fiction, tour/scene info, etc. A new project by En Esh will debut shortly. Also, the official Pig site is under construction and will branch out of thesickcity soon.

Brian at Cleopatra records has asked Raymond Watts(Pig) to upload his version of 'Head like a hole' to the new site. Also featured is a new demo for the forthcoming haloblack record. Both haloblack and Pig were among the 10 bands featured along with Nine Inch Nails recently in A.P.'s 10 most essential industrial rock albums feature.

Anna Wildsmith, who collaborates with Jim Thirwell(Foetus), KMFDM, Pig and others as SOW contributes a short story.

"People have confused this site as a fansite with bootlegs of forthcoming music," mentioned Maime via email. "We can assure you it's the real thing."

"It will be on a bigger server soon and we may offer t-shirts and live streamed concerts and new artists and exclusive tracks from all of our friends and projects," explained Maime. "At thesickcity we will not compromise artist integrity for mainstream attention. We are not a record label. Just an outlet for underground, raw, bold and inspiring art."

Check out: Pig- head like a hole.mp3, haloblack- my sacred.mp3 and Anna Wildsmith 'The Treat' before it's updated with new material soon.

Sacramento Bee Interviewed Robin Finck

Sacramento Bee writer Chris Macias did a telephone interview with Robin Finck from a Las Vegas tour stop. Finck touched base on his history with NIN, what made him tour with Cirque de Soleil, why he left Guns N' Roses, adapting songs off the Fragile so they can be performed live and a few of his injuries sustained during the Fragility performances.

Below is a snippet from the interview:

"It is a challenge to re-create the songs live," said Finck. "In the beginning, all five of us listened to the songs together with virgin ears and tried to pick out the strong skeletal features of each song -- maybe a melody or tempo or riff. We'd work at it from its core and then adorn them with these sonic complements.

"The guitar tones are most challenging (to re-create live)," Finck added. "Drums and keyboard sounds can be sampled if need be from the master tapes, but guitars are such an organic, quirky instrument to re-create."

Film Festival - Demystifying The Devil in Italy

Chris Nicholas, the director of the unauthorized Marilyn Manson documentary "Demystifying The Devil," is back home from the Brescia Music & Arts Film Festival in Brescia, Italy. "Demystifying The Devil went over really well there. The festival organizers were very cool and everyone I met was great." Floria Sigismondi, who directed Manson's "The Beautiful People" video among others, met up with Nicholas and hung out a bit. "She is an incredible person," he said. "The festival screened a short film she directed called, 'Spiral.' It stars Barry Adamson, who also scored all the music in it. It was really cool." They also showed some of the music videos she directed (The Beautiful People, and videos by Bowie, Tricky, and others). "I also got to see her new book called, 'Redemption,' he said.

Salt Lake Tribune Interviewed Robin Finck

Salt Lake Tribune staff writer, Dan Nailen, interviewed Robin Finck recently, for the upcoming E Center performance on Saturday, June 17th. Finck chatted about numerous things such as the frequent set list changes, European/Australian/Japan tour as well as the trial and error performing The Fragile as practice made perfect. Below is a snippet from the interview:

"Originally . . . we played maybe more new material than we eventually realized was best for the set. So [now] we have revolving doors of new songs, and old songs too, but by now, we've started to play numbers we want to do because we haven't done them in a while, for us and for the fans. The audience may not know that it's different than the night before, or maybe they do nowadays, with the Internet. But if it's fresher for us, it's better for everybody."

Brief Details about NIN Fall Tour

Keith, an SLS viewer, attended the Nine Inch Nails Anaheim show last night and tried his best to stay late and meet the band again. With no luck, he ended up hanging out with some of the NIN Sound Tecks and was able to get some good news about the upcoming US tour Trent spoke about during the M2 Special last month. Although it's not officially confirmed, but only as a high possibility, NIN is said to hit the road late August. "They told me that NIN might co-headline a tour or maybe a festival with 5 to 6 other bands," explained Keith. Although the festival tidbit is highly unlikely, nothing is confirmed for the moment.

San Francisco Examiner & Chronicle Review NIN's Cow Palace Performance

Both the San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle had plenty of great things to say about the Nine Inch Nails show on Wednesday night at the Cow Palace. Although it has been said the Palace has poor sound quality, the Examiner Staff writer Craig Marine and Neva Chonin, Chronicle Staff Critic, gave the concert awesome reviews, with not one bad thing to say.

LA Times, Riverside Press Enterprise & Orange County Register Review NIN's Arrowhead Pond Performance

The Los Angeles Times gave NIN's Arrowhead Pond performance on June 6th an excellent review, along with the Riverside Press Enterprise. Unfortunately the so-called #1 newspaper in Orange County, California "Orange County Register" took Tuesday night's concert a wee-bit to personally and totally trash talked NIN's set along with a Perfect Circle's. Fans who want to write Ben Werner, the Orange County concert reviewer, you can with this personal email address. Anyway, two out of three isn't bad to say the least, but what do you expect from uptight and Republican fuckers.

The Daily Texan Interviewed Danny Lohner

The Corpus Christi native and former UT business student Danny Lohner was interviewed by his former college from a Houston tour stop. In this new interview, found inside Wednesday's The Daily Texan, the University of Texas chatted with Danny Lohner about his native home, recording of The Fragile, rap metal bands, MTV's TRL and the days when he played clubs in his hometown with his former band.

Below is a snippet from the interview:

"Trent had so many ideas and so much stuff going on that the role switched from initially being able to write songs together. The role, unfortunately for me, switched to supplementing his songs with whatever I could add to them," he confessed.

The band took a stylish New Orleans mansion and converted it into their own, massive studio. Keeping with the group's attempts to remain on the cutting edge of music technology, Lohner found himself working with advanced production equipment.

"Me and Charlie each had an individual studio upstairs, like small studios, and we were all hooked together over a local network on the computer. So [Reznor] could shoot us stuff up to our computer or we could shoot stuff back down to him. He could sift through it or pick things," Lohner said.

Check out the full interview here: Further into the void of Nine Inch Nails.

Sam Donaldson Mentioned an Upcoming Trent Reznor Interview For ABC News

Shannon, an SLS viewer, was half-asleep on the couch today with The View playing in the background. "Imagine my surprise when guest Sam Donaldson starts saying Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor," she said. Between hearing this on The View of all places and coming out of Sam Donaldson, "it was a pretty surreal experience," she added. Sam has a new show on abcnews.com, which is described on the site as an "internet-only webcast featuring interviews with newsmakers and innovators."

On The View, "Sam said that Trent had not been interviewed yet," explained Shannon, "but would be on the show soon." Sam seemed pretty excited about it, she added, "but of course, he's pretty excitable in general and was also enthusiastic about an appearance by Carson Daly," she noted.

Unfortunately, no airdate was mentioned. In general, the show is broadcast (real video) three times a week at 12:30 pm ET. Luckily all shows are archived and you can sign up here at abcnews.com. If you're interested in receiving email about upcoming guests, fill out this form and hopefully the Trent Reznor interview will make its way some time soon. Not only that, but you can also email Sam with questions for his guests when they are announced. We'll keep you posted...

John5, Pogo, Manson & Rose McGowan Attend NIN's Anaheim Performance

Two SLS viewers, Cicconeyouth and Tadrith, both said they saw Pogo, John5, Marilyn Manson and Rose McGowan last night at Nine Inch Nails' Anaheim performance in California. "I just wanted to write in that both Madonna Wayne Gacy and John5 were EASILY visible," said Cicconeyouth about last night's gig. "John5 even signed some autographs," he said. "They were sitting in a barricaded area on the floor behind the soundboard." Although Manson made an appearance with McGowan, it wasn't in public. "They were off to the side, watching the show," said Tadrith.

The Box Music Network Interviewed Trent Reznor

This week "BOX MUSIC NETWORK" will be airing an episode "of BOX talk" with Trent Reznor. "BOX talk" is shown 3 times a day at 12:27 PM, 5:27 PM, and 9:27 PM. Although the interview isn't anything new, according to those who saw it, Trent talked about his musical beginnings, what The Fragile is about and again mentions bearing the hatchet with Marilyn Manson. We hope to have a transcript of sorts by this weekend.

Scott Weiland of STP Comments on Marilyn Manson

Found here is an article on Stone Temple Pilots' look at the future including a comment from Scott Weiland about forming a fake boy-band w/ Marilyn Manson and Red Hot Chili Pepper's Anthony Kiedis.

Weiland also recently launched his own record label, Lavish Records, and signed the Inglewood, Calif., gansta-rap act Tha Underdogs, whom he met while in jail. The label's scope will include everything from singer/songwriters to hardcore rap to rock, the singer said.

"My next move is to assemble a boy band with myself and Marilyn Manson and maybe [Red Hot Chili Peppers singer] Anthony Kiedis," Weiland quipped. "It would be completely choreographed and all lip-synched, we probably won't sing at all. We'll just have fantastic designers to make us great clothing and spend a million dollars on a video."

VH1's "The List", Full On Trent/Manson Video Battle

Yesterday on Vh1's "The List", Manson's "The Dope Show" and "The Beautiful People" along w/ NIN's "Closer" was selected on the list for Best Rock Video. One of those people, Katie Wagner of "TV Guide" was booed repeatedly for eliminating "Closer" not to mention Kane, of VH1's "Rock Show," was pissed that "Closer" was eliminated. Rachel Hunter (model) picked Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People" whom Cane (K-Rock DJ), agreed with her number 3 choice but exclaimed that Manson wouldn't be anyone with out Trent Reznor. Then director Nigel Dick picked Manson's "Dope show" as his third and Cane again said that Manson was first trying to imitate Trent, now he's going for the Bowie "esq" persona. Cane chose Closer as his 2nd video and went on how Trent is great and nothing feels better than saying to a woman, "I want to fuck you like an animal!" Don't you just hate missing the good ones...

Batman 5 Has Clint Mansell Linked To Score Film

There have been some rumors circulating lately that if director/writer Darren Aronofsky, who directed "Pi", directs the fifth Batman installment, he'll most likely have Clint Mansell (PWEI) score the film, just as he did for the Pi soundtrack in '98.

Knowing this much, I did some quick research last weekend and contacted my good friend Terry, the webmaster of the official Clint Mansell website, Clint @ The Controls.com. Terry, who has been asked this question a few times last week, confirmed with Clint Mansell that scoring the film is a possibility. This is what Terry had to say this morning:

At the moment, all Clint knows is that Darren's got a few irons in the fire on various projects, and if Batman was one of them then obviously Clint would love to work on it. But there's nothing confirmed at all - Clint is as much in the dark as the rest of us. The Knockaround Guys score was scheduled to be completed last week [in Los Angeles] and I believe that Clint's going to spend some time out having a break seeing a few NIN gigs before returning to NOLA and getting stuck in to the solo album.
In related news, Clint Mansell can be seen in the San Diego (6/3/00) post show fan video saying, "Hello Website." The quicktime download [3.6 mb] is currently found on the official Nine Inch Nails video section of the website, which will then be moved to the Fragility v2.0 archives later this week or the next.

NIN Tribute Album - Volume 1: A Cover of "That's What I Get" Online in MP3 Format

Those who like tribute albums as much as the next, check out the official Cleopatra Records web site for a cover of "That's What I Get" in mp3 format. The track, exclusive to the site, will be removed Tuesday, June 12th and will no longer be available anywhere until the NIN tribute album (volume 1) is released on August 22nd.

Arizona Republic Interviewed Charlie Clouser

Nine Inch Nails keyboard wizard Charlie Clouser phoned the Arizona Republic newspaper from a Houston tour stop recently and chatted about what fans, who haven't seen NIN this year, can expect. Although I was a little late getting this interview up (damn), the interview was to promote yesterday's Phoenix gig at the America West arena.

Charlie briefly details some of the damage the band and their equipment has taken over the past year, how The Fragile is difficult experimental wise on stage, and how Reznor's willingness to open the door for his crews ideas for the band...

Below is a blurb from the interview about their hospital trips:

"We're definitely still taking some hits up there," he said. "Robin (Finck) has been to the hospital three times this tour with head injuries. Jerome (Dillon) has been to the hospital once, and I've gotten some paramedic attention.

"No hospital trips yet for me, but we're definitely keeping up the (on-stage) violence level, which I think is part and parcel to some of the material. We couldn't play a song like Sin without somebody getting knocked over."

Check out the full interview here: Reznor's rage keeps Nails sharp.

Thanks a lot to: MissTwiggy.

A Perfect Circle's Maynard and Billy Howerdel Mention NIN's On Stage Lighting

We mentioned last month that MTV Latin was to interview A Perfect Circle on May 29th. Just as they interviewed Trent Reznor, they transcribed the two-page text interview into Spanish, which can be read here. Billy Howerdel of A Perfect Circle said, "Nine Inch Nails is so choreographic... no, nonchoreographic, but their show of lights and technologically is so advanced, that they are a caramel for the Vista. Something that never I have seen and that it."

Thanks a lot to: Pablo.

Random Nothing News

Terrence, who attended the dismal MTV Movie Awards yesterday said while they were loading the audience they were airing videos. "In the middle of all the crap on came "Starsuckers Inc." Most of the crowd had the expected blank stare, but when the part with the Courtney Love look-alike came on there was a little bit of a cheer, so that was kinda cool."

Nashville Pussy thanks Marilyn Manson in their new album "for having the balls to go on tour with them..." Hmmm... wasn't it the other way around?

Thanks to: Maggot.

Ginger Fish can be seen on page 18 in this month's issue of Playboy magazine, although the magazine captions him as Marilyn Manson! "Ginger Fish is in a picture with no makeup and brown hair posing with Hugh Hefner at a Limp Bizkit party," said Al. "I saw that and kind of did a double take, it's the last place you'd expect to see him!"

Interview with Manson's John5 on Ibanez.com

John5 of Marilyn Manson is a devoted Ibanez user. On the revamped Ibanez.com website, John gives an interview as a lead-in to the AX model's page. The interview is as follows:

Ibanez: You've played with a lot of high profile personalities including kd lang, Rob Halford, David Lee Roth and now Marilyn Manson. Can you tell us what you got out of each experience?

John5: Everyone is so completely different. With kd, it was very laid back. She has the greatest musicians in the world in her band and everyone was so nice and professional. When I was very young, I used[ to] talk about how I was going to play with David Lee Roth someday. So I still get freaked out when he calls. Playing with Rob Halford in Two did a lot for me. With Manson, I was always a big fan; we clicked at once.

Ibanez: Yes, but what's it like playing with Marilyn Manson?

John5: It's absolutely terrifying. You don't know what's going to happen next on stage. It's a war zone. It is complete chaos. When I'm playing I like to look at the crowd, but with Manson, I have to keep my eye on him every second. It's a challenge.

Ibanez: With Marilyn Manson, you have been using your AX guitars as your main instruments. Why those particular guitars?

John5: I've always used RG guitars, but I found that the AX guitars were shaped perfectly for me. The magic is in the kind of wood that they are made from. The mahogany body sounds so beefy and so full. It almost plays by itself. We just recorded a live album and the tone of the guitar sounded phenomenal. I used my AX on everything. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Demystifying The Devil Featured in Italian Film Festival, Gamma Pop Press Release

Chris Nicholas, the director of the unauthorized Marilyn Manson documentary "Demystifying The Devil," left for Italy yesterday. Demystifying The Devil (www.mansonvideo.com) is going to be screened on Sunday June 4th at the Brescia Music & Arts Film Festival in Brescia, Italy. "They are flying me in to be a part of the festival," he said. "I have scheduled interviews with MTV Italy and a few Italian magazines and newspapers." He will be there for 6 days. "Floria Sigismondi, who directed The Beautiful People Video," he added, "will be there too, screening a short film that she did." Her website is www.floriasigismondi.com.

Other stuff pertaining to Demystifing is that it stayed in the Top 2 for 7 weeks straight in the UK charts. It is doing so well over there. The DVD should be out in the next few months, which we will have more infomation on as time goes on...

Here is an official press release about the festival:

GAMMA POP @ BRESCIA MUSIC ART

There you have it: Gamma Pop, in the person of its lider maximo Filippo Perfido, has helped author/critic/director Domenico Liggeri organize the video section of Brescia Music Art, multimedia festival at its third edition that will take place in Brescia, Italy on the first week-end of June 2000 (June 2-4, 2000).

Thanks to our contribution, the festival will feature a lot of stuff about the American independent film and music, w/ a screening of the movies "Half-Cocked" and "Radiation" by Suki Stetson Hawley and Michael Galinsky, plus a selection of the best shorts taken from the latest editions of the New York Underground Film Festival (www.nyuff.com).

The festival will also feature the world preview of the CUT movie "Will U Die 4 Me?," short film written by Elena Skoko (the band singer) and directed by Cinzia "Mrs. Talent" Bomoll. But there's more: in Brescia Elena Skoko will also present the fashion performance Sugar Babe Collection 2000: dancers, rock'n'roll, models (Skoko herself, Cinzia Bomoll and Isabella Santacroce among the others), fire and, hopefully, blood.

Some of the guests that will be attending the Brescia Music Art Festival are: Suki Stetson Hawley and Michael Galinsky (authors of "Half-Cocked" and "Radiation"), Ed Halter (director of the NYUFF), Floria Sigismondi (artiste extraordinaire who will be in Brescia w/ some of her best videos and photos, plus the short movie "Spiral," written and performed by Barry Adamson), Chris Nicholas (director and producer of the amazing rockumentary "Demystifying the Devil - An Unauthorized Biography on Marilyn Manson").

We have tried to take to Brescia at least one of the Vivid Girls, but unfortunately we didn't make it...

For further information about the festival, go to www.bresciamusicart.com.

Smashing Pumpkins Break-up, Billy Referenced NIN in an Interview About the "Rock Era"

Billy Corgan mentioned Nine Inch Nails in an interview regaurding the break-up of Smashing Pumpkins:

Caller 5: Yeah, I do I actually wanted to ask, does he think that this is the end of a Rock Era, since they're breaking-up, 'cause I mean, I really think so and that's an excellent question to ask, and I really think that this is the end of the Rock Era, since they're breaking-up now, like does he think so?

Billy: Um, I don't know there's so many great bands, um that are out there right now, and, and bands that are still going from, you know, 'Gen X', whether it's nine inch nails or, or Pearl Jam, so you know I wouldn't take that much credit.

Chris Vrenna To Contribue Programming & Sampling

Cold is a band started (or at least helped out significantly) by none other than Fred Durst. "They're a lot more depressing and better than Limp Bizkit," added Timothy, "but I found this article about them today which features work by Chris Vrenna."

Cold is in Seattle and is laying down preliminary tracks for their second Flip release. Producer, Adam Kasper who just finished th recent Foo Fighters album There is Nothing Left To Lose will be joined at Studio X by Chris Vrenna--formerly of Nine Inch Nails-- who will contribute his programming and sampling talent to the project. Cold will be in Seattle through the third week of December and is looking for a Spring 2000 release on Flip/Geffen, which follows their self-titled 1998 debut on Flip/A&M..

Thanks a lot to: Timothy Giauque

Trent Reznor Attends Cure Concert, Bon Harris Working on New Album; Talking about Release on Manson's Posthuman Records

Rob Rohm, an SLS viewer, attended the Cure concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA and was lucky to hang backstage with Bon Harris (former Nitzer Ebb) along with Roger O' Donnell from the Cure. "After the Cure show (which was brilliant) we were waiting to meet up with some friends near the beer stands and I noticed Bon," said Rob. "I told my friend, who's a major Nitzer Ebb fan, so he called him over." They both told Bon, which he said he was very cool to chat with, that they are Nitzer Ebb fans, which they asked him what he's been up to.

"He filled us in on his production activities and his new project called Maven," said Rob. "I asked him if he had a label deal and he said not yet but that he may be on Manson's new label Posthuman Records. My friend asked him what about Trent's label and he mentioned that Trent was at the show." Bon told them to look for a Maven website soon, although it wouldn't be maven.com. "I asked him if it would be a ".co.uk" address and he said no, he actually lives out in Los Angeles now."

"We never found our friends and we decided to try to get ourselves backstage," Rob said. "We ended up getting aftershow passes and ended up in the party." Unfortunately the area where they were at was not where Trent and Robert Smith were.

"There was mainly crew," he added, "friends of the crew and Roger O' Donnell and the guitarist that plays with the Cure now." Rob explained, "I was standing near the door and Roger actually came up and introduced himself to me. He told us about NIN being there, which he said Trent was upstairs visiting with Robert Smith, as well as quite a bit about the Cure and that this is the last tour for certain." Rob enjoyed his time, "but it was ultimately disappointing not meeting Robert Smith or hanging out with Trent again."

Eric, another SLS viewer, over heard 5 different people say they saw Trent Reznor at the Cure concert last night too. "I had pit tickets, but where everyone was that saw Trent was on the opposite side of the pit where you go backstage." Eric also noted, "I know someone real well that told me that he saw Trent go backstage. I also saw Jay Gordon of Orgy there."

San Diego Union-Tribune Interviewed Trent Reznor

Today's issue of the San Diego Union-Tribune is an interview with Trent Reznor in their weekly entertainment guide, "Night & Day." Trent Reznor who spoke from a recent concert stop in Florida, discusses how living in NOLA affected his making of "The Fragile," the dark side of his fame and about how Trent realizes he is "not a well-rounded person."

Below is a blurb from the interview about The Fragile as to The Downward Spiral:

"'The Fragile' wasn' t based on anger, or the deconstruction of everything and tearing the house down. It was based more on a process of healing. And the two years it took to make were the best I've lived, in terms of finding spirituality, fitting into the scheme of things and attempting to be a little more well-rounded as a person. And also in terms of (realizing) that I am flawed, and that it' s OK to ask for help and for people, when you need people.

"Those were the issues around ' The Fragile.' ' The Downward Spiral' was about self-destruction, and about assessing everything around me and systematically destroying it. And then I basically lived that, and found that I don't want to be down there. There is still some fire in my blood, but this was about finding a way to be better. It was an overwhelmingly positive time, and couldn' t have been more different than 'The Downward Spiral'."

Trent Comments About MSG Performance with Manson In Latest Issue of RollingStone Magazine

In the newest issue of RollingStone with Kid Schlock on the cover (to use Charlie's term) the opening story and full page photo is of the Trent/Manson reunion with a photo of Trent Reznor giving the bird along side Marilyn Manson. The article also features the publicity show of Trent and Manson on stage with Manson's arm wrapped around Trent at the Madison Square Garden performance.

The brief article is great and calls the new "Starsuckers" clip a 'video masterpiece' and also features a brief interview with Trent and Manson about the performance.

"When Manson came out for the end of Starfuckers," said Reznor afterward, "all I saw from the people in the front was "Whoa". Then we kicked into Beautiful People, that was one of the best feelings i've ever had onstage." Manson wasn't sure if fans would forgive or forget: "I expected the crowd to hit me with bottles, but they liked it." Reznor adds, "We walked offstage hugging, and I said to him, 'I know this is cliched and jive and gay, but i love you, man.' It felt really great."
For more info about this concert, check out our May 10th headline "Starfuckers, Inc Encore With Trent Reznor & Marilyn Manson, Live Video Clip Online" for more info.

Further Information about Phoenix, Arizona Venue Change & Ticketing Conversion, Including Official Press Release

We mentioned yesterday there would more info leading to the reason the NIN Phoenix, Arizona venue changed, and Michael, the person who is hot on its trail, was given two press releases about the venue change.

"I ended up getting a secretary and leaving a message with three questions for Beth at WAC," Michael explained, "so hopefully she'll get back to me on those remaining issues."

"A little while ago I got a return phone call from someone at America West," who he left a message for him yesterday. America West confirmed that the issue with the old arena indeed involved rigging for hanging equipment from the ceiling. "He said that general admission was chosen because they decided it was the best way to ensure that people got decent new seats," said Michael, "and that no refunds were being offered." He also confirmed that WAC was promoting. "When I asked about Concerts West being listed by some sources as the promoter," Michael added, "he said maybe they were overseeing something, but he didn't really know of any big connection with them."

Further Details about Jerome Dillon's Movie Score Contribution

Although we mentioned on April 13th the contribution Jerome Dillon, Nine Inch Nail's drummer, used during the band's tour break, we have some slightly new information about his work with director John Waters on the score for his upcoming movie, Cecil B. Demented.

The punk-rock influenced score, written by Dillon's friend, Zoe Poledouris, will feature Dillon on drums and some guitar. On the movie's ending title song, "Chow," he plays all the instruments, and even co-wrote the song. Cecil B. Demented, staring Melanie Griffith, Stephen Dorff, Ricki Lake, and Patty Hearst, opens August 11th.

Kansas City Star Review NIN Kemper Arena Concert

The Kansas City Star ran a review May 30 of the show Sunday night at Kemper Arena, and we're pleased to report that it's an enthusiastic review. "Unexpected," Jeremy Doherty added, "because as I recall, none of the Star's music writers had anything worthwhile to say about The Fragile last year." Nothing earth-shattering to report differently about the concert, but it's good to know that Trent and co. are winning over folks in the heartland.

Check the review out here: Nine Inch Nails rocks the phonies out of Kemper.

Halmi Adapts Monkey King f/ Nine Inch Nail Demon

Variety columnist Army Archerd reported today from the set of The Monkey King, a two-part miniseries currently filming in Prague. Robert Halmi and Hallmark Entertainment are producing the project which will air next February on NBC.

Why should you care about something called The Monkey King?

Well, the Monkey King legend serves as the basis for the "Dragon Ball" anime series. The live-action miniseries, which stars Thomas Gibson and Bai Ling in the lead roles, will feature characters like Big Demon, Spectacles Demon, Nine Inch Nail Demon, Pointy Head Demon, Confucius, Jade Emperor, Shu, Wu, and Pigsy.

Besides Monkey King, Halmi is working on a $70 million miniseries based on the Dinotopia children's books and a new adaptation of Snow White. Both projects will air on ABC, with Dinotopia set to premiere sometime in 2002.
