Allstar Speaks of Metal and Release Months

Allstar lays down their opinions on some NIN issues. Some of which they are wrong...

On the Trent Reznor front, some speculate that the real reason he reneged on contributing his seven-and- a- half- minute version of Gary Numan's "Metal" to the X-Files soundtrack ( allstar, June 24) is because Filter is on it. We hear that Reznor even told Alan Moulder that if he produced Filter's new album, he'd never work with NIN again. (Moulder mixed NIN's Downward Spiral.) And, fans of NIN and Manson shouldn't hold their breath if they even think that the NIN album will come out around the same time as Manson's album (which is slated for a mid- September release). The last time the two had conflicting street dates (with their respective home videos, Closure, November 1997, and Dead to the World, February 1998) the street dates were quickly changed so as not to make fans choose between one or the other. Makes sense, actually... On the Filter tip, the band has about 10 songs in the can and Reprise is looking at February as the tentative release date for the album. The disc -- produced by the band's Richard Patrick in Chicago -- will feature Geno Leonardo, who played guitar in Filter's touring band; Frank Cavanagh, who played bass in the touring band; drummer Steve Gillis; and programmer Ray Dileo. "It's way more diverse," says someone who heard the tapes. "He's really expanded his musical repertoire. There are some real stripped- down Filter tracks where guitar plays a big role. It's more accessible."

Here's the real story about why BOTH videos were delayed... This information came with Interscope it self at the time of the releases so if anyone has any questions. This is what they said in a nut shell...

NIN was suppose to be distributed by Universal, but they pulled out at the last minute because the material on the tape was too graphic and Universal is trying to move towards a more family oriented material.. So Universal is the company that owns Interscope as well as Universal Pictures... etc, etc, etc...

So, Trimark ends up distributing Closure at the last minute. Trimark does nothing but movies... which means, if you are a record store and do not carry movies, chances are you dont have an account with Trimark, which means small record stores at the last minute got pulled, and large companies like Blockbuster Video and Tower Records got Closure first at the last minute because they already had accounts with trimark.

... and now the story of the Dead To The World Tape...

the Dead To The World was delayed because some of the people in the video did not give consent to be shown in the video so they had to iron out some differences. I think that may be why some of the people in the beginning have blotted out faces.

This had nothing to do with Interscope trying to make them come out at the same time... Lets hope Allstar reads this and reports the correct news next time, after all. I wonder why they created that report!

Thanks to: weathermen records with the real side of the story and to heavens_trash about allstar's report.

I'm trying to confirm some other information about the new November releae as well as some TVT information. I'll let everyone know what's up on my next update if I get the information.

NIN on ABC in Concert

A few months back "ABC IN Concert" aired Nine Inch Nails and Rage Against the Machine, back to back with 3 RAge videos and 1 NIN video. The rerun of the show is in July

nine inch nails will be on ABC In Concert July 24th.

By that time- I should have my working video card in and I'll record it in put it on the net. Though it wasn't a good show because it was more of Rage than NIN. But they played "Wish" off Closure (tape 1) and a few clips from "I'm Afraid of Americans" video.

More Info On Numan

I'm probably going to keep working these issue to death. One becuase Trent has considered proudicng Gary Numan's NEXT album and Trent's work for the Numan Track "Metal".

I was looking at Cleopatra Records' website last nite and there was a page about the Marilyn Manson/Gary Numan collaboration. It mentioned that Cleo had recorded the show for Gary, and that they were speaking with Manson's promoters/label/whatever about how to release the song, possibly as a single(!). There was a link to Cleo's page for Numan's new cd also, and the track list includes Down In The Park live as a bonus track, but the recording is from a different show.

Thanks to: maul.

Lots of good news today... I should have more later since its so early in the day....

Manson and Trent with Numan

Just some slight news about this Gary Numan ordeal... invloving a mention of Trent...

The call came one week before the show - Brian Warner would like to join Gary Numan onstage in Los Angeles. One problem: "Who the fuck is Brian Warner?" asked Numan. "I had no idea that was Marilyn Manson the identity crisis was resolved, Numan gladly allowed Bri the joy of dueting on Numan's classic "Down in the Park." Numan was also fawned over by another dark prince, Trent Reznor, in Houston - once Numan realized who he was.

Trent and Numan Collaborating

In a report at NME Gary Numan is planning to work with Afrika Bambaataa and Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, following his live collaboration with Marilyn manson.

Numan has already completed some preliminary work with Bambaataa. The pair worked on a new version of 'Metal', from Numan's 1979 album 'The Pleasure Principle', in London last week. The song is likely to be released as a single later this summer.

An album is also in the works and Trent Reznor has offered to produce it. The collaborations have come about after Reznor and Manson turned up to shows on Numan's US tour which wound up recently in Los Angeles.

When Numan met Reznor, the NIN frontman played him a version of 'Metal' he had recorded. At Numan's Los Angeles Palace show, he duetted with Manson on 'Down In The Park', from 'Replicas'.

Numan said: "It's nice to know these people are aware of my stuff. Bands that I really like are saying they're fans." Meanwhile, Numan's entire back catalogue of albums has been remastered and is being reissued by Beggars Banquet in the UK on July 6.

Thanks a lot to: scardwel.

Big Day Out Festival

I can't say much for this rumor right now, but it's interesting....

I was reading the Herald Sun today (Thursday), which is one of the daily newspapers here in Melbourne and in their Hit magazine (movies, music etc) there was a little snippet about the return of the Big Day Out festival next year. Anyway they reported that NIN were 'hotly rumoured' to be on the bill. Here's the full text of it anyway.

"The Big Day Out in January is back after a one year break. The infamous travelling festival called it quits in 1997 with promotors seeking new challenges. Last year's dance festival Starbait was aborted due to poor ticket sales. The 1999 Big Day Out is at the Melbourne Showgrounds on Tuesday January 26 with tickets onsale October 9. No bands have been announced yet, but hot rumours are NINE INCH NAILS, BEASTIE BOYS, REM, THE VERVE, PJ HARVEY, THE CURE AND HOLE."

Yeah, so take it as you like. The Beastie Boys and PJ are 99% confirmed, and REM and the Verve have been rumoured for ages, but I'd never heard anything about NIN or the Cure and Hole, so...i don't believe it till I see it confirmed. I guess they're just one of those bands who every promotor would kill to get their playing at their gig.

I don't feel that this will happen... I really can't confirm it to begin with, but to do so we need information from that concert admin....

Thanks a lot to: gaby.

Sanity Regained

Especially for myself, if I'm to look up something quickly that Trent has spoken of... this page is the place to do it... Located on the website Smashed Up Sanity, direct yuor browsers to the file "Pure As Fuck"...

Pure As Fuck is a collection of Trent Reznor's thoughts on a variety of issues. Since the early beginnings of Nine Inch Nails till now, Trent Reznor has been outspoken when it comes to expressing himself. Though most people know the basics of Trent Reznor's beliefs and opinions, the more personal touches tend to be lost in the world of meaningless "magazine" articles which tent to flood the Nine Inch Nails world and the endless supply of rumors. It's time for Trent Reznor's thoughts to be heard; uncensored, in original context, and without being tainted by the touch of editors and authors only seeking to sell magazines. It's time for something new, something pure...Pure As Fuck.

Thanks to: Smashed Up Sanity.

Interscope Goes Public

Just a confirmation from my information I stated when I spoke to Interscope my self...

94.7 KNRK in Portland, OR (the radio station i listen to) Just reported that they got an official press release which said the new album is going to be out in November, but you already know this. They also said that the release stated that the album will be nothing like he's done before.

Mention of Trent's 'Metal'

A quick mention about Trent's version of 'Metal' at allstarmag that was suppose to make the X-Files soundtrack...

After talking with the CD's co- executive producer, David Was (who shared those duties with series creator Chris Carter), it's hard not to think of the soundtrack that could've been, even for him. While he is very happy with the outcome, he admits, "The ones that got away are the ones that figure most prominently in my vision of the record." Among the acts who "got away" are U2 and No Doubt -- both of whom had lunch with Was and Carter -- and Trent Reznor, who gave Was and Carter a seven- and- a- half- minute version of Gary Numan's "Metal," then took it back after deciding it wasn't representative of what he was doing at the time.

Allstar Repeats Old News

Rumors abound about the next Nine Inch Nails album, but while the NIN camp remains as tight- lipped as ever about Trent Reznor's latest sexual frustrations, the official David Bowie website reports that Bowie keyboardist Mike Garson plays on the new one, which should be out by the end of the year...

More Confirmed NIN News from Interscope

I called Interscope Records again this evening to see if I could get new word out if in fact the slated November release of Trent's new album is still called "The Fragile" and they had this to say...

"As far as we know the 'The Fragile' is still the name of the album, but since things are still to close to call. There can be changes, but as far as we know... Yes, the album is still 'The Fragile'."

If the album does change, I'll keep you all posted...

Interscope also gave me word what's up for the new MBM single 'Acid Again.'

"Meat Beat Manifesto has a new single coming out called 'Acid Again' and it features 4 remixes and the album 'Actural Sounds & Voices' is to be out around 4th Quarter."

I received scans of this single which you can view if you scroll down today's update.

Manson Wins Court Case

Though I rarely report Manson news, but this in from Weathermen...

Calgary Sun Staff

Cancelling a concert by shock rockers Marilyn Manson will cost the Larry Ryckman Sports Society more than $40,000.

In a written ruling handed down Wednesday, a Calgary judge ruled the society It was ordered to pay $43,756 to Universal Concerts Canada Ltd., the Vancouver-based promoter which organized show.

The Marilyn Manson show -- scheduled for July 25, 1997 -- was cancelled after it was decided it wasn't suitable family entertainment.

Larry Ryckman, former owner of the Calgary Stampeders, and other civic officials were outraged at the group's antics, which include anti-Christian messages.

Zombie Collaborates with more Nails

I reported earlier this month that Nine Inch Nails' Danny Lohner would be contributing to the new Zombie solo album, well it appears more NIN fit the agenda... this from this months "Metal Hammer"...

You called this a solo record; have been working by yourself or collaborating with out musicians?

"I've been collaborating in song writting and production with a guy called Charlie Clouser, who used to be in Nine Inch Nails. He helped me out on 'Hands Of Doom (Burn Baby Burn)' and the Beavis & Butt-Head track 'Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks & Cannibal Girls'. As far as musicians go, I've adopted a 'revolving door' policy. Its a great opportunity to work with a complete release to be able to do a record this way."

Though it is odd that Rob Zombie doesn't mention how Danny Lohner of Nine Inch Nails is featured in his Solo work... this from my June 6th update from Sonic Net...

The nearly completed album, co-produced by Zombie (a.k.a. Rob Straker) and Scott Humphrey (Motley Crue, Metallica), will feature beats from White Zombie drummer John Tempesta as well as Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and guitar work from Nine Inch Nails' Danny Lohner.

Zombie also adds in this interview about his September schedule

"I want to start touring in September. I don't want to give away too much at the moment, but I do want it to be a whole scenario that no one's gonna suspect. I have a master plan involving numerous musicians. I'm just working out how I'm gonna make it happen."

Expectedly we must believe that Lohner and Clouser are to be included in this "master plan" for they contribute... Sonic Net reports Zombie's solo album to be out in stands this August... more as it comes in...

Going Going GONE!

Weathermen sends word ::

Word just in from TVT records. The vinyl release for the Halo 4 release SIN is now out of print. This is the second TVT release by Nine Inch Nails to be put on the endangered species list from TVT records. The first one was for Head Like A Hole. We are told that the vinyl for Pretty Hate Machine and for Down In it will still be available for the time being. We were told this latest decision was probably due to a "expired and unrenewed contractual agreement".

Whatever the case, we have some left but not many so if anyone is interested they can find them on the web page at

NIN in Circus & Hit Parader again

Nine Inch Nails is featured in the August issues of Circus and Hit Parader, more garbage to fill the readers mind....

In the Circus issue, Reznor's the cover story. It has some less common pictures and a small amount of interesting information, but the magazine is still clueless, and keeps calling the track off broken 'happiness is slavery.' It says the new album is called either 'the fragile' or 'impossible pain.' In the Hit Parader, it's just a perfect drug-era picture and some lame letters.

I shouldn't even have to say, but Circus and Hit Parader.. think of them as "Trash Magazines" with ONLY rumors...

More Notes on Tea Party

More information on Tea Party cover of Hurt.

On the new Tea Party tour (a Canadian Band) they play hurt live. Their song "Save Me" mutates into the NIN song "hurt" half way through the song. It is a much faster version unlike the origional recording. They do not play the whole song though just this chorus... "my sweetest friend, everyone i know goes away in the end. you could have it all, my empire of dirt. i will let you down, i will make you hurt. if i could start again."

I am interested in hearing this song performed by them, if anyone has this recorded- please send it along!

Wink Review

A pretty bad review of the new Josh Wink album HEREHEAR from live-wire, including a snicker at Reznor's "Black Bomb"...

Josh Wink's living the life. He's Philadephia's best- known DJ. His dance staple "Are You There..." has been broadcast into millions of homes via MTV's weekly electronic show, "Amp." He owns Ovum Recordings with King Britt. He's got dreadlocks. He's famous. What more could you want? Er... how about a new album?

It's been more than a year since "Are You There..." generated all sorts of buzz about the guy, so it seems like a follow- up to his 1996 release, Left Above The Clouds is more than a little overdue. And here it finally is.

Herehear has moments of intense focus-- driving rhythms, excellent samples, beautiful music. "Young Again" is a flowing digital river of sound whose speedfreak breakbeats seem strangely ambient. "I'm On Fire" mixes stumbling, chunky beats with singer Caroline Crawley's gorgeous jazz vocals, and "Are You There..." is a straight- up classic.

But Wink fails to come through on tracks like "New Groove," "Back In Tha' Day," and "Hard Hit," whose beats are flat and, worse, too damn repetitive. Other accidents include "Sixth Sense," which features horrid spoken word by that crazy Ursula Rucker, and the god- awful "Black Bomb," in which Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor takes on vocal duties.

Herehear may have sounded great a year ago, but in today's fast- paced, ever- changing world of electro, it seems held back by its lack of character and substance. Let's hope Wink gets his next project on the shelves before it passes the expiration date.

Thanks to: neil

December for UK Release

This isn't confirmed on my part yet, but this is pretty reliable since the Domestic release of "The Fragile" is around mid-November... I'll look into this and get back to you all....

I was speaking to an old friend in Missing Records in SCOTLAND and he said he had someone call Island Records the UK distributor and they said it would be December at the earliest for the UK release. So that seems pretty reliable from your earlier confirmation.

GnR wants more NIN help

This news breif found on yesterday's Allstar.... Explains Axl is looking to work with some more people who were associated/worked with NIN. It appears GnR has recruited everyone except Trent himself...

OK, it seems as if everyone is working with Guns N' Roses at the moment: to recap, there's former Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck, ex-Replacement bassist Tommy Stinson, drummer- for- hire Josh Freese (name a good band, he's played with them), and others, including possibly Youth of Killing Joke fame as producer. Now, Mr. Axl Rose has even roped in Finck's former guitar tech and is "looking to poach some other folks known for their work in the NIN camp" as well, according to one of our snoops. Rose was also overheard talking to a studio assistant about his concerns over whether the "public" would "get" his new lineup, and that -- as a means to make the transition a bit smoother -- maybe they should just do something like the whole Appetite for Destruction album over.

Thanks to: jocelyn.

More Opinion's of New NIN Sound

I know there is enough reviews off TWO's debut album on SLS, but this speaks more of NIN than Halford... needs a quick glance through if not more.... this comes from Issue #6 of Outburn Magazine...

TWO - Voyeurs (nothing/Interscope) You might be asking youself, "Why would Outburn review ex-Judas Priest lead singer and fresh out of the closet Rob Halford's latest musical project?" Quite simply...because Voyeurs lists Trent Reznor as "Executive Producer" (whatever that means) and was mixed by Dave "Rave" Ogilvie. Impressive and curious. So is this another bombastic epic worthy of comparison to Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar which was also shaped by the Reznor/Ogilvie team? Well, not exactly. Voyeurs is so overpowered with Nine Inch Nails cliches that I am beginning to thing Trent Reznor is a master manipulator and brilliant genius or I think the whole Nine Inch Nails distorted bass 'n beats, cute little oddities, and stressed vocals has become too predictable. Maybe there's a special NIN button on high end mixers that I am unaware of. Sure, the guitars have some good crunch and grind, and overall Voyeurs does pack a strong sonic punch (I really hate my noisy neighbors and this CD might come in handy to play loud on my stereo), but with Rob's surprisingly un-Priest like vocals, easy to spot NIN musical treatments, and weak choruses, Voyeurs seems to be another album to add to the NIN hard rock rip off pile. In which case, some of you kids might actually enjoy this album. But why would Trent be a genius...maybe he's setting everyone up. Because then when a new NIN album is released, everyone can ooooh and aaaah at how vastly different, innovative, and completely cool it is compared to everything else that NIN or Reznor produced bands have done recently. One can only hope.

My opinion.... I believe it won't sound near to this...

Thanks to: daredevil.

SLS Viewer Talks to Wink

I was given a promo copy of Josh Wink's album about 2 months ago.. of course featuring "Black Bomb"... Well a SLS viewer mentions this to Wink him self....

As Josh Winks release of HEREHEAR, he appeared at the Beat Non-Stop in Los Angeles on June 16th. Well my friend was there and he got to talk to Wink. He told Wink that he had heard the Song "Black Bomb" (which featured the vocals of Trent Reznor) on the internet at least two months ago. He(Wink)was in total shock! He had no idea that it was on the internet!! Wink asked what site he heard the song on, and if it was on the Ovum Recordings Website, which it wasn't... So in terms of Josh Wink, Black Bomb on the internet was a huge shock!! He had no idea of how it could've gotten on the internet, but said , "Oh Well". My friend also said that Mr. Wink was a real cool guy. He signed autographs, and then dropped some funky beats for about an hour.

Thanks to: danny.

Hopefully soon Trent will speak out about his work... I would assume around the Fall months this may occur.

Mtv reports NIN

I must say first off... mtv news reports many stories off SLS including my Interscope confirmation, "Finnish magazine" , "Vrenna studio sessions w/ Morissette" etc, etc... Which I'm very flattered... anyways... below is from mtv online...

Trent Reznor Looking For New Album Sounds

Trent Reznor, aka Nine Inch Nails, has told a Finnish magazine that his next album is going to utilize a variety of vocalists, musicians and exotic instruments.

Reznor, notoriously tight-lipped about his works in progress in the past, told Soundi magazine that he's gathered pieces from different styles over the last few years and that he's trying to find a way to mix them. The discussion with Reznor was part of an article centered on the use of computers in writing and recording music.

Previously on the NIN tip, guitarist Adrian Belew told fans that he had been in the studio with Reznor in February and had laid down guitar work for roughly 14 songs or song fragments. There were no vocals at that point.

Meanwhile, net sources contacting Interscope have been told the album tentatively scheduled for release in November. Previous reports say the working title is "The Fragile." Reznor's publicity firm declined to comment other than to say they could not confirm any of the information.

In related news, former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna is close to signing a deal with Almo Records for his new band, Tweaker. Vrenna's latest studio project is sessions with Alanis Morissette. He's recently worked with Green Day, Seal and Hole, among others.

I appreciate all of you writting in...

NIN on Gossip Show

I can't say much for this, but I'm reporting it just because... but since this is from a "gossip channel" we all know how "gossip/rumors" work so... take it only as you will...

I was watching The Gossip Show on E! and they mentioned Trent, and the new album. They did not mention a releasedate, however, they did say that Trent is hard at work on the new album in a new recording facility of his in a transformed FUNERAL HOME. That's right, Trent is writing and recording the majority of the new album in a funeral home. I do not know which funeral home it is, except for that it is in New Orleans (Trent's home town).

Yes, Trent has recorded in his funeral home, but we don't know for sure... if his "funeral home" is exactly where he is recording "the Fragile" if that is still the album name, which we have to assume...

New "Musician" Mag, Vrenna info

Musician magazine speaks much of Vrenna.

In this month's "Musician" magazine, a small magazine for the recording and performing musician, there is a section on Chris Vrenna and his work with Tweaker and Rasputina. The article is not completely about him, but there is a section. Specifically, a question is asked how his work with Rasputina differs with the ex-Nine Inch Nails material he was accustomed to. He says (not a direct quote):

"with NIN I worked with computers alot and everything was sequenced. These days alot of artists don't want to do six or seven takes of a song so they do it once and throw it into the computer to fix it. With Rasputina and Tweaker, the focus is on performance, so I tried to stay away from the computer as much as possible."

Check out this month's "Musician" magazine for the complete article as well as a pic. It is $3.95 in stores but you can get a free subscribtion at their website. This article may be on their web site as well, but I didn't check.

More Information on Trent's Hacked AOL Account

Below is more on the Appelbaum report from C|N ET. Some of the story repeats it selves, but later goes into detail... If any new information pertaining to this story- like Trent's response etc... It'll be on SLS like always...

Trent Reznor, lead singer and songwriter for the industrial-rock band Nine Inch Nails, has become the latest victim of an America Online account takeover-- and the alternative rock guru plans to take action against the perpetrator.

Amber Appelbaum, a 22-year-old Georgia woman, was arrested last Monday for fraudulently accessing Reznor's AOL account, according to the New Orleans Police Department. She was released on her own recognizance last Wednesday, police said.

Appelbaum apparently obtained Reznor's password by calling AOL's billing department pretending to be Reznor's wife. She then proceeded to use his account, according to a report by the New Orleans Times Picayune. Reznor, who goes by the screen name "MT Rez," reportedly hired a private investigator after discovering changes in his account. But AOL spokeswoman Ann Brackbill refuted the claims, saying that passwords cannot be "obtained" when a user calls customer support. Rather, AOL resets passwords by giving the user a new temporary password, she said. New Orleans police arrested Appelbaum on charges of fraud, access device fraud, and making harassing phone calls to the rock star, according to police. The story was also reported in New Orleans newspaper the Times-Picayune.

"From what we know of this situation, this is the case of an obsessive fan," said AOL spokeswoman Tricia Primrose. "We are working very closely with the New Orleans Police Department in investigating the situation." Brackbill added, "At this time there is no evidence that Appelbaum didn't already have all the information she needed to verify the account, and no evidence that any of AOL's policies were violated." In addition to the charges on the arrest warrant, the report said that nine long distance phone calls were charged to the rock star's credit card.

The report comes on the heels of several privacy concerns that have confronted the world's largest online service of late. Last week, CNET NEWS.COM reported a security breach in AOL's customer service division that lead to the vandalizing of the American Civil Liberties Union AOL page, and a number of member account takeovers. The hacker--or what many call a "cracker"--"socially engineered" his way into other subscriber accounts without account verification by simply convincing a customer service representative he was the targeted account holder.

The online service also came under attack when a service representative released the real identity of sailor Timothy R. McVeigh to Navy investigators, thus violating its own privacy policy. The investigators discharged McVeigh because his member profile said "gay" under the "marital status" category. McVeigh has since been reinstated. AOL would not say whether Reznor's account was taken over by means of a social engineering hack, but maintained that it and the New Orleans Police Department are investigating the matter. Neither Reznor nor his agent could be reached for comment.

Its confirmed no "Personal Jesus"

This was found on mtv about the depeche mode tribute album which kills that Trent rumor on the net...

"For The Masses," which arrives on August 4, and will also boast tracks from Apollo 440, God Lives Underwater, Veruca Salt, Failure, Dishwalla, Meat Beat Manifesto, Hooverphonic, Locust, Monster Magnet, and Rabbit in the Moon. Contrary to reports (see "God Lives Underwater On Skinny Puppy, Depeche Mode Projects"), the album does not carry cuts from Trent Reznor, Smash Mouth, or Foo Fighters. The album's release will come two months before Depeche Mode itself releases its 13th album, "The Singles 86-98," which arrives on October 13.

SLS Viewer Chats with Vrenna

Some tidbits on somethings...

I was at the stabbing westward show at the house of blues in la last night and i was able to talk to chris vrenna for a moment. The only real news i got from him was that Rasputina album will most likely be out in august, and his own band Tweaker just got signed to Almo (Garbage). I thought about asking him why trent can't keep any friends but decided against it.

Read my May 19th update to read the FULL blown report that speaks of Vrenna and Trent, if you haven't already...

Thanks a lot kraw.

New Trent Image

I'm not sure when this photograph was taken, I don't have time to look upon it... I just got in from seeing "a perfect murder"... but here's a pretty cool image of Trent along with David Bowie and others...

Just wondering if you had ever seen this. i have never seen this photo anywhere and i had never heard that kind of comment regarding trent and photo shoots. just thought it was a little interesting. maybe you already know about it...i dunno...it might be old, i'm not sure. just thought it was interesting and you might want to see it if you haven't. it has something to do with the photographer being profiled by people online or something. see for yourself.

Wink Album Review

Hear is a good review by allstar about what's on the new Josh Wink album as well why he had sooo many artists help out with the album.... and READ the next report after this one... for what's up with this thing...

Coming on the heels of a string of successful dance hits, Josh Wink, the Philadelphia- based electronic artist, has delivered a second full- length album that may surprise his hardcore dance following. That's because Herehear, due Tuesday (June 16) on Ovum/ Ruffhouse/ Columbia, isn't just a dance record, nor is it merely a collection of songs that are only at home in loud, noisy, blinking- light environs. Instead, Herehear aims -- and succeeds -- at giving the listener a glimpse of the vast array of musical styles Wink is into.

"I try to approach everything differently," says Wink, "because if I don't, than to me, it gets stagnant and boring. I like a little spontaneity in things, so on this album, yes, I did approach it in a similar vein to [1996's] Left Above the Clouds, but it's a more organic and mature album for than that.

"I've now become an album- oriented artist, rather than an artist DJ that was just making tracks for the clubs," he continues. "I want to make CDs for people to listen to anywhere, not just vinyl records that people listen to in the nightclubs."

Herehear weighs in on techno and house as well as drum- and- bass to those ol' familiar vibes of rock and roll. Lending a helping hand to the diversity of the album is quite the roster of special guests: Trent Reznor ("Black Bomb"), Philadelphia poet Ursula Rucker ("6th Sense"), This Mortal Coil/ Shelleyann Orphan singer Caroline Crawley ("I'm On Fire"), the Interpreters' Herschel Gaer ("Simple Man"), and Philly jazz expressionist Elliott Levin ("Hard Hit").

"I want to collaborate," explains Wink on how he worked with his guests. "How I dealt with it was, I said, 'Look. I'm an artist. I did my art, now I want you to do your art.' We talked about some ideas and this and that, but primarily it was free for them to do what they wanted. And that's what I wanted to do. I appreciate their talents and I wanted to appreciate them more by not saying do this or that."    As previously reported, Wink also collaborated with Gaer on the video for the second single from the album, "Simple Man," which spoofs the music biz as Wink and Gaer act as managers of a humanized boombox (allstar, May 28). Meanwhile, he's in the midst of a tour, which wraps up July 11 in Germany.

Vrenna Invloved with Alanis Morissette

Vrenna just keeps putting out. This is from the latest Alternative Press magazine...

How The Mighty Have Fallen Department: After working on the remix of Green Day's "Brain Stew" for the Godzilla soundtrack and completing production on the new album by neo-classical Victorian underwear models Rasputina, former Nine Inch Nails drummer/programmer Chris Vrenna is involved in the production of the new album by the Prozac-seeking Edie Brickell metaphor known as Alanis Morissette.

Sampling avatar Jack Dangers, known to the electronic dance-music scene as Meat Beat Manifesto, will have a new album released Aug. 28 on Cleveland-based Nothing Records. Titled Actual Sounds And Voices, the record is rumored to be a brisk return to the cerebral dance music Dangers has carefully cultivated in the past. Dangers and his new band will be opening the dates on this summer's major-market tour by the Prodigy.

Dave Navarro on Manson Album

Though I rarely do Manson updates, but I thought I would report this since it confirms my confirmation with Interscope on the November release for Manson... which The Fragile is also to be released...

Navarro Lays Down Guitar For Manson Album

Dave Navarro, Jane's Addiction guitarist and former Red Hot Chili Pepper Dave Navarro recently laid down some guitar tracks for Marilyn Manson's upcoming album.

The Manson record is expected to arrive this fall, but how Navarro's contribution will be included is not yet known.

The last time Navarro and Manson turned up in the same story, the two were differing over an account in Manson's autobiography in which Manson claims he had to fend off Navarro's unwanted sexual advances (see "Manson Book Tells Tales Of Navarro, Love, Reznor").

Since leaving the Chili Peppers in April, Navarro has been concentrating on a new project, dubbed Spread.

This report came from Mtv News.

Thanks to: kall.

Can you all believe it? No NIN News tonight... Sorry for the late update though. I've been home for a while, I've just been working on MP3s, Real Audio and Real Video for SLS...

Trent Talks about Fragile

Trent Reznor talks about how he uses his computers in making music and a little about the new NIN album:

When Nine Inch Nails recorded Pretty Hate Machine in 1989, the audio tracks could not be put on computer. The album was still sequenced with Mac Plus. Their third release album The Downward Spiral was a different case. It was completely recorded with computer, just like Marilyn Mansons Antichrist Superstar, which Reznor produced.

"Instead of recording to tapes, I played parts of the songs into my computer and after that I could make loops and stuff ", Reznor says. "If you want to write a song, just put a loop from a drum track, and then add bass and guitars into it. After that you can do whatever you like with the song: use samples, put on the vocals and so on. This way it's easy to make remixes of a song when you have the basis of it saved in your computer."

On the next NIN album Reznor will be using computers as well, but he has something new in his mind too. He's going to use different vocalists on the backround, many musicians and many real and exotic instruments. "I've gathered pieces from many different music styles in these few years and I'm trying to find a way to mix them." Reznor's music writing didn't work out with piano, so maybe he's getting help with that from his "assistant musicians".

Request Features Plaid

Request Magazine speaks much of the new signed band "Plaid" to Nothing Records in this months issue...

Before Madonna's "Ray of Light" brought techno to the masses, Trent Reznor was forging his own electric highway, "Pretty Hate Machine" introduced industrial music to mainstream America, a feat the Nine Inch Nails frontman duplicated for drum 'n' bass with "Perfect Drug" and his remixes of Bowie's "I'm Afraid of Americans." Now, experimental electronica is Reznor's latest mantle, as evidenced by his signing of free-jazz junglist Squarepusher, minimalist duo Autechre, and eclectic Plaid to his Nothing label.

Plaid's "Not for Threes" shares more than a little with Bjork's techno pop. In fact, the Icelandic pixie was such a fan of Plaid's previous incarnation, Black Dog, that she lends vocals to a track, as does former Massive Attack singer Nicolette. These collaborations reveal the exact coordinates of "Not for Threes": Music that dresses up Detroit electro, drum 'n' bass, and funk with simple but unusual accouterments, such as steel drums, and symphonic strings. The resultant songs are staggeringly original, accessible, and absolutely uncompromising.

Thanks a lot to: jax24.

Sean Beaven for Kidneythieves

NIN and Manson Month Releases Confirmed from Interscope

I can take credit on this one, because I talked to Interscope my self! This is a confirmed source on my part...

I called the "artist development rep" from Interscope Records today at 5:00 pm EST and they said, as of today NIN AND MANSON'S new release albums are slated for mid NOVEMBER...

The lady that I spoke to explained to me that they wanted to have the album ready for the "Christmas Planning Schedule." She said that she'll keep me posted on any new information that follows this November release... but they didn't know anything else as solid information pertaining to NIN that was liable to be given out. As the new news comes in... SLS will report official buisness... stay tuned...

On another note, she was also telling me about MBM and 12 Rounds... information we already knew.... anyways... nice people they are.

Well lets hope no more delays appear any time soon... that leaves us... 5 months!! At least we finally know something confirmed about the Fragile. That seems resonable anyways... considering... that's MORE than enough time... By the way, our old source still claims to have the stupid-ass promo... There is no promo... I was fooled- till I see it... I'll believe it, case closed.

Vrenna on 4 Angelique Tracks

Will Podboy ever quit?? He's still at it...

I have a promo copy of the debut album from Angelique (titled "Present"), on which Chris Vrenna is credited as the drummer on four tracks. Vrenna drums on "Number," (the first single) "James A Junkie," "What Love Is," and does "additional drums on "Holy Waters." The album isn't out yet and I'm not sure of a release date, but it should be out before July.

Bowie's Not Afraid Any More!

It appears Trent's remix contribution to IAOA CD is no more...

I'm afraid of americans cd single is now out of print...

Some follow up news on this report that just came in...

I remember reading before it came out that the remix single would be a limited edition, which would explain why it's no longer being made.

Those who don't have the cd single yet and still would like to buy it before its to late, check your local stores.. There might be some copies left on the stands to purchase...

Thanks to: ed and to: rob for the follow-up report.

Vrenna Remix of "From Your Mouth"

It appears Vrenna is unstoppable....

Chris Vrenna remixed the track "From Your Mouth"by god lives underwater thus far it is only available on a promo of the "from your mouth" single and not in stores. I did hear it on KROQ (im sure you've heard of LA's radio station...) one night a few weeks ago. The remix is very heavily drum oriented and has a "live" sound to it- in fact its much better than the original.

If anyone has heard the track and may be able to get an MP3 file of it let me know.

Thanks a lot to:doodle.

More Detailed Info of Trent's AOL Problem

Rolling Stone online reports more news further about the Trent's case with Appelbaum, some of it repeats what I reported on my May 30th update. If any further news pertains to this issue- I'll have it here...

The days of lurking outside high-priced hotels and tailing tour buses may be over for 21st Century celebrity stalkers, who are already boning up on ways to invade their idols' privacy via the Internet.

In the most recent case of World Wide Wrong, a Nine Inch Nails fanatic in Georgia hacked into Trent Reznor's America Online account and sifted through weeks worth of private information before being arrested by New Orleans police last Monday. Amber Appelbaum, 22, was booked under the misdemeanor charge of making obscene phone calls, as well as felony charges for access device fraud and computer fraud, a spokeswoman for the New Orleans district attorney's office told JAMTV on Wednesday.

"She was released on her own recognizance, and we have not received a police report, so we are still waiting to evaluate the case and begin interviewing people involved," the spokeswoman said. If convicted of all three charges, Appelbaum could be ordered to pay as much as $12,500 and/or serve more than seven years in jail with the possibility of hard labor. However, because the overzealous fan has no prior criminal record, the judge may opt to suspend her sentence or order her to serve all three sentences concurrently, which would translate into five years behind bars at the most, the spokeswoman said.

Appelbaum's high-tech high jinks were discovered when the Nine Inch Nails frontman noticed changes in his account and reportedly hired a private investigator. Contrary to previous reports, Appelbaum did not likely obtain Reznor's password by impersonating his wife on the phone with the AOL billing department. The senior vice president of communications at AOL, Ann Brackbill, told JAMTV that the billing representatives do not have access to users' passwords, and can only assign new temporary passwords to verified users when needed.

"We're working with law enforcement," Brackbill said on Wednesday. "There's a lot we don't know. It's all being investigated now and a lot needs to be found out before we can do anything."

AOL will likely step up to help Reznor sort out and mend his account problems, but Brackbill could not comment on the company's proposed action.

Reznor had no comment at press time. This high profile snafu follows months of security-related trouble for AOL, which is accused of involuntarily allowing a hacker to infiltrate and vandalize the American Civil Liberties Union website last week. Appelbaum may have used "socially engineered" tactics similar to those of the previous hacker, who conned an AOL representative into believing he was a valid account holder. (Anni Layne)

Closure For SLS On The Horizon

To start off... basically all the videos for Closure (tape 2) are finished.. There have a few problems though.

First, I'm uploading 2 more small files making tape 2 complete...

Second, The files are streamed in Real Video ready to go, but right now only for only ISDN, Cable, T1 connections.. making many viewers with connections such as 56k and below having the videos stall every 15 seconds for 4 minutes... eh.

I'll have the videos soon in ALL formats... so.. hold out a little bit longer... I'll have TONS more videos up soon following this... SLS will be the biggest NIN downloadable movie web site along with many, many out standing break throughs...

Major construction will begin in about a week... After the movies are fully finished with what I have in stock. Audio will be out next project....

It won't just be listen to this, oh wow... We plan on digging deep into the mind of Reznor's, comparing his thoughts with his music covers, etc... I'll give the scoop soon enough.

Major construction on SLS will begin in about a week, news like always will appear daily on SLS NIN News.

Sam Goodie Reports July to September

Just to set the record strait, many of you are reporting "new" release dates that Sam Goodie/Musicland are giving out with their Fragile pre-orders. Some stores report dates July through September and some with no dates or pre-order sheets. (which is common) But I don't know what to say about that, if any solid information DOES come in, it will be here immediately...

I work in the Musicland on Staten Island New York. Sam Goody and Musicland are all in the same company, the Musicland Group. This is the deal. We will take a predorder on any audio selection, regardless of a date, no date, or anyhting. I checked the preorder book today, and we have a code number to put in for a NIN Fragile preorder. However, there is NO date whatsoever attached to it. In fact, all the information I tell my manager and customers regarding this album comes from your site! So don't go looking into our stores for a release date, cuz the company knows as little as everyone. Since there is a code for it, that means it will be released before the year is out, unless circumstances change. That's all I can say.

That's it for that, for now...

Lohner on Zombie's Debut Solo Album

Sonicnet reports Danny Lohner of Nine Inch Nails has put guitar work into Rob Zombie's Debut Solo still-untitled 13-track album, due out this August. As well as confirmation on the rumored drop of the third instalment of Crow 3, which Zombie was expected to write and direct.

Rob Zombie Solo Debut Scheduled August release set for White Zombie singer's first album.

Senior Writer Gil Kaufman reports:

Rob Zombie won't be surprising anybody with mellow acoustic ballads or trip-hop experiments on his upcoming solo debut.

No way. Zombie knows what his fans expect, and he said he plans to give it to them on the still-untitled 13-track album, due out in August.

"It's hard for me to judge my own sound," the leader and vocalist of metal-core foursome White Zombie said of the tracks on his album. "Everyone said I've taken it to a new place, but it's totally Zombie.

"My stuff is not that different from the Zombie stuff," he added, "in the sense that it's what we would have done three years later and what I would have wanted the next Zombie record to sound like."

The nearly completed album, co-produced by Zombie (a.k.a. Rob Straker) and Scott Humphrey (Motley Crue, Metallica), will eature beats from White Zombie drummer John Tempesta as well as Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and guitar work from Nine Inch Nails' Danny Lohner.

Zombie said the album, like his other side venture, the recently aunched Zombie A-Go-Go Records label, started out as a small project that just kept growing. "I did that one song with Stern," Zombie said (of "The Great American Nightmare," his collaboration with "King of All Media" Howard Stern for the soundtrack to Stern's biopic "Private Parts"), "which was a fucking blast." Such a blast, in fact, that it got Zombie thinking about a full-length disc.

When his industrial sleaze combo decided to take a yearlong break last year, Zombie said he ended up recording some songs that he'd written for what he imagined might be an EP. "That, of course, turned into a huge production of an album," Zombie said.

With White Zombie-type sounds infusing his solo disc, Zombie shrugged off any fears that fans who lined up to push White Zombie's Astro-Creep 2000 (1995) to 2.4 million in sales might have moved on to electronica or some other flavor-of-the-minute sound since WZ last released an album. "In a way, WZ have been around long enough that you don't really have to worry about musical trends of the moment," Zombie said. "People are still into anything as long as it's done in a fresh way and it's not beating a dead horse." Just in case, though, Zombie said he recently spoke to the band's other members and set a tentative date to regroup and begin working on new material.

One thing that fans can forget about is the long-rumored third installment of the movie franchise "The Crow," which Zombie was expected to write and direct. The singer said he spent two years working on the movie, drafting multiple scripts and even getting as far as traveling to Prague, Czech Republic, to scout locations and beginning the casting process. "We had the budget for set designs and I was really deep into it," Zombie said, "then all of a sudden I came home and it was not happening."

Zombie said that he has "no idea" why the movie was tabled but that he has given up on his take on the fading franchise, which he described as a "dark, gothic Western with the Crow character as a Clint Eastwood/Man With No Name type of guy instead of a young guy in clown makeup."

"They talked about taking my script and taking out all the Crow references and making it into a different movie," Zombie said. "But I said 'fuck this.' I never put two years' worth of work into something and not have anything to show for it."

Zombie said he has already started work on another film script, although he said he'll be "taking my fucking time" before he decides what studio to bring it to.

In the meantime, Zombie said, he has commissioned famed Marvel Comics artist Gene Colan ("Howard the Duck," "Daredevil") to create a full-length comic book as a companion piece to his solo album.

Sorry for the delay today, was installing my new flat bed scanner and software...

No Single for Black Bomb

In the new issue of SPIN magazine there is an article about Josh Wink and Reznor on page 91.

One track that might prick up the ears of the wallet-chain masses (& potentially tick off techno purists) is the unnerving "black bomb (jerry in the bag)," an industrial-tinged panic-attack featuring vocals by trent reznor. Wink says it's not a blatant commercial move, that he always envisioned the song with lyrics, & reznor is simply someone he respects. The collaboration is a real coup, but wink has rebuffed any suggestions to release "black bomb" as a single. "i don't want to," he says tersely. "i just don't."

That's to bad there won't be a single anyways.... The CD don't forget is released June 16th.

Well I called my local Sam Goodie record store today see what the story was all about and "yes" SG is taking pre-orders for the new NIN release "the Fragile". SG said the only reason they are doing this is because they BELIEVE that it's coming out SOON (they didn't specify when- because they don't know the date). The exact words from the lady I talked to was, "We just want to make sure we have enough copies to supply the demand..."

SG also took Pre-orders for the "Nine Inch Nails: Closure" video tape set last November as well. So when I pre-ordered my video set on November 29th from SG, they had such a HIGH demand for it- that they weren't positive that they would get my order on the first shipment. So SG is just is just stocking up. No biggee...

Thanks to: michael for informing me.

Not much today... if anything else comes up- it'll be here...

Hit Parader Reports More Rumors

Well NIN is in the new Hit Parader magazine again, with some interesting news and also more rumors! But is the news they report real??? You can read the full report here that I typed up. But below is a few snippets from the article...

... rumored to be called Dissonance, supposedly holding in-depth meetings with various music buisness insiders over the disc's quasi-controversial contents.

... During the last few months he's severed ties (or had those ties severed) with a number of his closet musical confidants- delaying his own recording schedule and confusing some of his closet confidants in the process.

... The label folks were obviously seeking NIN to produce "breakthough" disc, a collection that would take the platinum success attained by the band's last album, The Downward Spiral, to the next logical commercial plateau.

... They wanted hits, not artistic experimentation. Of course, Reznor wanted just the opposite, and a series of conversations between both interested parties soon began.

Now what's weird is... we all know how Hit Parader believes that the new NIN album is called Dissonance, they've been saying this for many HP issues now. But why is that they keep reporting it this title? They rarely report interviews, just non sense articles with live Trent images.

Well we all know that the new NIN album as of now is titled "the Fragile"... you can read the strait up interview from Alternative Press that says so here .

So HP says repeativly "our inside source" who has been handing them some new slight news concerning the album's progress... well it's obviouse coming from HP that if their source was informing them with "inside information" that they would be getting the album title correct- for once. Trent has already stated that album wasn't going to be called Dissonance on last years September 13th issue "Kerrang" found here. So either HP has their sources crossed or they have no idea what they are talking about and are selling lies!

And also an extra note- This MUST be stated for MY sake. Trent says that there is "NO" album called "Impossible Pain."

Exact words from Kerrang Interview...

Last December, a news piece appeared on the Internet 'revealing' that the new Nine Inch Nails album was to be titled 'Impossible Pain' - and that Trent Reznor had enlisted a tramp to help mix it! Reznor was quoted in the news piece as saying: "I can't wait to see what this Fuck-nut comes up with!" Kerrang! and a number of other UK magazines reported this story. We all later learned that it was, in fact, a hoax. And how we laughed. "I heard something about that - where a homeless guy came into the studio?" guffaws Reznor now. "Where did that come from? Yeah, of course it was real," he adds, tongue wedged in cheek. "Actually," he hoots, "a corpse came in and started mixing the album!... Nah, it's flattering that people are going to the trouble to come up with that shit!"

So please stop writting in telling me the new album is called this, get over it!

Thanks a lot to Smashed Up Sainty for the scans, pictures, news... and to Happiness In Slavery for their Kerrang interview.

Closure in Toronto

Closure in Toronto, Canada after all!

I was at Tower Records yesterday here in Toronto, Ont (at the corner of Queen and Yonge) and quite accidently happened to see a big display of Closure videos. As far as I was aware, Closure was still not availible here in Canada (at least in Toronto anyways) because it had been deleted after four days due to the graphic nature of the videos. At least, that was what I was told at Tower Records when I went to buy one before Christmas. They told me it would never be availible here again. I ended up getting one in the States, but low and behold, there it is yesterday. There are a bunch of them there with a few of Manson's video in the same display as well.

here's a quick report on the story on this issue...

Closure was banned by the gov't temporarily, then the ban was lifted, but the original ban caused store chains (canadian division leaders) to review the video, and what happened was they felt they coudn't/shouldn't sell it, but they had already ordered and recieved their stock. So they sold what they had and didn't order more, until some chains decided to begin selling it again = VERY few chains.

So those up there waiting to get their hands on their copy, do it now!

NIN in Time Magazine

I saw this on the stands yesterday and was to lazy to check it out... I'll do so tomorrow and get some scans...

In the June 8th issue of TIME (Time 100, Artists and Entertainers of the Century), they have a 4 page pull out with several "big" artists and attempts to track their influences and their genres. Out of the ROCK area comes David Bowie which then moves into Alt Rock with Nine Inch Nails and finally Marilyn Manson.

SLS Breaks 100,000 Hits

Well SLS NIN News broke 100,000 hits yesterday at 11:30pm EST by a viewer named james.

To me that's a big thing, because we started out small back 5 months ago and we are now one of the heaviest, most populated NIN/News web site on the net and we owe it all thanks to our loyal viewers.

We will continue to update SLS NIN News daily and our new home www.seemslikesalvaiton.com will also be updated daily if not more starting the middle of June.

We have LOTS of things arriving soon for the site and we look forward into seeing you all there soon. I'll give you a list in a few days on our recent work...

thanks again everyone for Making "SeemsLikeSalvation - NIN News" your number one nin news home.

That's all the news caught up to speed. Again sorry for not updating the other 2 days... if things like that happen again. It means I'm REALLY away from my computer and expect a large update with all the news that didn't get posted... eh.

Personal Delays

Sorry for not updating these last few days. I had a few personal problems to tend to. I don't have time tonight to report all the news that I have because I have to leave home again, but I'll finish everything up tomorrow with all the delayed news.. but below is some of the small tid-bits... that have been coming in...

Raygun Talks of Black Bomb

We've all heard it, sounds great right? Well Raygun has their own opinion...

Trent was mentioned in Raygun's review of Josh Wink's Here/Hear album. They said that "Trent Reznor's vocals on Black Bomb (Jerry in the Bag) seem oddly out of place, but the whole song in general could easily pass for a NIN song."

Well we know the words can pass as NIN, which we still don't know who they were written vy since Wink didn't write the them... but the music it self can't pass as NIN...
