Halford on the Edge

Yesterday I reported Rob Halford to be broadcasted live at 102.1 "The Edge" , here's more detailed information on this subject...

The Edge is broadcasting Rob Halford live in Real Audio format here on April 6th between 6PM and 8PM EST. The show is 'Live in Toronto', and Rob Halford will be interviewed during the time I specified. Those who don't know your correct time zone, I will be making an anouncement every so often on April 6th, telling everyone how many hours or so are left.

Here's an interesting fact that was brought to my attention... The Edge is also known as CFNY, and you may remember it from Closure, when Trent Reznor was interviewed in sunglasses (ie: 200 shows, no deaths yet, etc)

Anyways those who are bored, click the link and listen to the live broadcast, it plays 24 hours a day... it's a decent station...
Thanks to: daredevil.

I will be sending my news later out today. Sorry about delaying it, I've been really busy working on SLS.

SLS should be a lot faster now. I've moved a lot of my old news to the link at the bottom of the page...

Victory Video Stills

Today Mtv released a teaser of the new Puff Daddy video "Victory" which Trent and Goldie remix later as a maxi-single.

victory anim The video will premier Tuesday, March 31st @ 6/5c on Mtv Live.
With the video premiering in 2 days on Mtv live, I'll have full coverage of any new news that is reported... I assume they will release the purchase date of the "maxi-single" that is now reported to be in mid-April... The music video is to play the original Victory track cut from PD's "No Way Out" album. Those who would like to hear the original track, click here to listen in Real Audio.

Once the single is released, I'll have scans, Streamed Real Audio and MP3 of Reznor's "Victory" remix... I may have the single before hand, no promises though...

Here are a few images off the video teaser...

Puff Daddy, Dennis Hopper, Busta Rhymes, Danny DeVito.

Thanks to: silnt for some of the news.

Halford on the Edge

Rob Halford (of Two) will be making an appearance at 102.1 "The Edge" on April 6th.

Closure in Circus

With Closure hitting the shelves around November of last year, Halo 12 is still catching the publics eye... this is from the April issue of Circus (p. 61)

When one thinks of which bands are at the forefront of music video, NIN is about as cutting edge as you can get. With assistance from directors, NIN mastermind Trent Reznor has painted some of the most intriguing video pictures of all time (such as the Mark Romanek-directed "Closer") and some of the most horrific (the rarely seen clip for "Happiness in Slavery"). The collection is comprised of two videotapes, the first being strictly comcert footage while the second contains all of NIN's music videos. Tape #1 is a revealing portrait of NIN on the road, with band interviews and day-to-day occurences intercut with full-length live songs (highlights include "March of the Pigs," "Down In It," "Hurt," and others.) Many of the music videos' visuals on tape #2 are powerful as the actual music--"Wish" shows the band playing to deranged lunatics while protected inside a cage, and the video for "Head Like A Hole" proved to be many fans' first introduction to the band back in 1991. "Closure" will help satisfy NIN fans' appetites until the new studio album appears later this year.
Thanks to: matt.

Talk about Bowie

In the April issue of Hit Parader (p.72) there's a review of videos by Life Of Agony: I'm Afraid of Americans by Bowie & Reznor...

JOEY: I'm sorry, but honestly I don't like this song, it's really bad. I don't know why. It doesn't seem like there's much thought behind it. I'm not too crazy about it.

DAN: I think its ok, but I don't think there's any reason to have Trent Reznor in there. What's the point? Reznor's in my video, so I'm cool again.

JOEY: I guess if you're a Bowie fan and you're really into what he's doing, this could be cool, but when I listen to songs that are all programmed and stuff... I like reality. I guess there's a lot of people who put a lot of thought behind these kind of songs. I think Trent Reznor does a great job with NIN, but after a while I think it starts getting so repetitive.

DAN: Plus it's not too good live. I'm a fan of live music. When you take something like this out to the stage, it's not as effective. The video is well done, but of course it will be. It's Bowie; it's been said that he's one of the richest men in rock.

JOEY: As I'm watching I'm wondering about what is behind the song. What does it really mean? Is it a message to the rest of the world that they shouldn't be afraid of us, or is it one single person in America that is afraid of everyone else. Or, is he being stalked by Trent?

Everyone's a critic...
Thanks again: matt.

Mention of Trent

In the April l6th Rolling Stone issue on page 82, there was just a small mention of Trent.

Fantasma Cornelius

When musicians put rock and electronica together, they often create seamless blends: Prodigy apply acid-house synths to standard-issue arena rock; the Dust Brothers slip some scratch effects beneath Hanson's sibling harmonies; TRENT REZNOR concocts the perfect drug out of harsh guitars and jungle beats.

Thanks to: crystal.

Trent Makes an Appearance

Trent makes an appearance in WAX TRAX-Black Box Vol. I - Video: Faster than Light performed by: Lead into Gold. Although, you barely even see him. It is still him.

Quake on N64

For those N64 lovers, NiNtendo released Quake 64 to the Nintendo 64 bit system on March 25th. Retail price goes for $65+. Here's what Game Pro said about Trent's soundtrack... (to listen to a wav file [184k] of the N64 version click here)

quake Almost a perfect translation from the PC, the rockin' Trent Reznor soundtrack is intact, though a little muffled. All the ghastly, demonic groaning and screams of pain come through crystal clear...
It was rumored to be in the summer of '97 when Quake was mentioned to be relased of the Nintendo console that Trent's soundtrack would make the cut because there would not be enough space, since it was cart based.

Though in this N64 version. I received notice that the nail gun refill boxes do not carry the famous 'nin' logo like the original PC game...

Thanks to: misery.

More Quake Reviews

Here's a review from the IGN64 web site. To read the rest of their Quake 64 review click here.

quake

Many will disagree, but we like the ambient sound effects in Quake 64 better than Trent Reznor's soundtrack for the PC version. The grunts, whispers, sadistic howls and everything else blend together nicely for a dark, urgent mood that while also present in Reznor's soundtrack, isn't as effective. Nintendo 64's Quake represents one of those rare cases where music simply isn't needed; the dark sound effects do much more for the frantic feeling of the game.
And for quite a while now, Quake was released to the Sege Saturn. Here's a small mention of the sound qualit from GameFan.
Offset by Trent Reznor's ambient soundtrack, Quake's awesome medieval/industrial environments provide the perfect background for a non-stop festival of carnage that takes the basic gameplay of Doom and blasts it into the third dimension.

Thanks to: hawke.

More Two interviews

Halford made news again at Eye.net... to read the whole interview click here. Below are some snippets from the site...

Are you planning to start dressing in more colorful costumes now?

Well, I'll always be the Man in Black, first and foremost. We tried some experiments with color, but none of them worked. On the new album cover, I'm dressed in a black winter coat with a black fur collar. It's still that rock 'n' roll leather jacket mentality. All about pushing buttons, rattling cages, pissing people off, shaking things up. And in this extraordinarily long journey of mine, it's not just about music any more. Now it applies to every aspect of my life.

What did you think of Tommy Lee accusing Paul Stanley from KISS of being gay in that article about Motley Crue in last month's Spin?

Yeah, I read that one. And I don't know what role it serves. Fags call each other "fags" all the time, you know, in the same way black kids use the term "nigger." So whether or not Tommy Lee meant it as derogatory or non-derogatory, I personally found it offensive. A silly, childish thing to say. But whose career is going better, right?

Thanks to: aadalman.

Sorry for the delay in updates today. I was a little tired and also had trouble uploading through my FTP...

I thought I would post this just for the hell of it. If you click here. A picture was taken of me during a bomb threat... This was featured in my local news paper I'm wearing the dissonance Nine Inch Nails tshirt in the middle.

Rob in Ozzfest 98

Mtv reports that Two will be touring this summer with Ozzfest '98... details below.

Rob Halford's new Reznor-flavored outfit Two is one of the last loose ends to be wrapped up as this summer's Ozzfest prepares to hit the road.

The Ozzfest camp reports that Halford and Two will be spotted on the second stage of this year's tour, joining a bill that already includes Seattle buzz kings the Melvins, Snot, Incubus, Ultra Spank, Kilgor and System Of A Down (Rick Rubin's first signing to Sony Music).

As we have previously reported (see "Ozzy Taps Limp Bizkit, Foos, Pantera, Slayer, Others For Ozzfests"), the U.S. leg of this year's Ozzfest will feature mainstage turns by Tool, Megadeth, Limp Bizkit, Sevendust, Coal Chamber, and Ozzy himself.

The tour will also feature the obligatory midway of vendors and attractions, dubbed "Never, Neverland," but this time with what promises to be a decidedly Ozzy touch. There are no dates yet for the tour, but we will keep you posted.

More Video Details

Yahoo gives a little more information about that Victory remix and the video for the shoot.

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--March 18, 1998-- Puff Daddy's forthcoming video co-strarring Busta Rhymes with cameo appearances by Danny DeVito and Dennis Hopper premieres on MTV, BET and the BOX on March 31. ``Victory'' is a post-World War III urban decay, directed byMarcus Nispel. The video opens on a futuristic, gothic, dark and rainy city. Puff Daddy holds the weight of the world on his shoulders. He speaks for those who cannot speak for themselves, the oppressed, the downtrodden and the undesirable. The evil corporate institutions headed by Dennis Hopper now control the fate of the underpriviledged. Puff Daddy, with help from his friend Busta Rhymes, looks to tear it all apart.

In addition to the video, the single will feature new and exciting re-mixes and once again Puff Daddy crosses over into an entirely new genre of music. Already successful with the number one single ``It's All About the Benjamins'' re-mix, Puffy has taken it one step further by enlisting the help of industrial king-pin Trent Reznor and electro-spin-king Goldie. Each have put their own flavor into the already hard-hitting song, ``Victory.''

The Trent Reznor re-mix will hit record stores first and features some of Trent's master mixing skills and industrial-heads will be running to the stores to hear this latest version because Trent has basically taken the Puffy version and turned it into his own.

Goldie's re-mix screams of his ability to mix and sample. Goldie took time out from his current release Saturnz Returns, in which Goldie worked with Noel Galagher, to put together the charged ``Victory'' re-mix. Saturnz Return and the ``Victory'' re-mix are Goldie's first releases in three years.

Both Trent and Goldie make an interesting addition to the mixes. They have created an exciting and suprisingly different follow-up to the re-mix of ``It's All About The Benjamins,'' (Which featured Dave Grohl, Rob Zombie, Anthrax and Puffy's own rock band Fuzz Bubble). One can only ask, ``What's next for Puff Daddy?''

Thanks to: Jocelyn.

Closure in Request

In the April issue of Request magazine there is an article about Closure... old news, but news to be mentioned... (click on scan for larger graphic)

closure Fans who can't get enough of Nine Inch Nails might change their mind after viewing Closure (Nothing/Interscope). This nihilist extravaganza consists of two tapes, the first a ragtag documentary of the band on the road, and the second a compilation of nin videos, including those too gross for Mtv. The low-tech tour footage features plenty of incendiary concert proformances, plus tiresome backstage glimpses of the boys trying to act wicked. It's more shocking to see frontman Trent Reznor smile.Cameos by Lou Reed and David Bowie reveal the touching desire for respect lurking behind Reznor's somber facade. As for the videos, the quick cuts and brutal images work well on a single song, but numb when consumed in bulk. With its male nudity and bloody torture scene, "Happiness in Slavery" tries hardest to offend, though the first Hellraiser movie did the same thing only more efficiantly. All in all, Closure serves Reznor's door image well, although his gruesome music has more punch when experianced without these predictable visuals.
Thanks to: plasmid for scripting it and lara for the graphic!

No Trent in Video

Mtv only said a while back that Trent was going to remix Victory, but they never mentioned if Trent might star in it. Well it's confirmed as believed, Trent won't...

In regards to the Puff Daddy video and Trent Reznor; Trent isn't appearing on the video rather he is doing a re-mix of the song in question. I got this information on MTV News that aired on March 20th.
Though we know a lot of what he said, lets just hope this video, remix what ever is all what is hyped-up to be...
Thanks to: Roebuck87.

Mention of Trent

Noting spectacular, but Trent was mentioned a few times in the April Issue of Spin...(click on scan for larger graphic)

spin "This is not a bad thing. (referring to Weiland whom they describe as a 'guy who woke up with total amnesia and a note in his pocket reminding him that he made records'. "Barbarella" is the best Bowie song in years (right down to the REZNOR drum sound!), nailing the post-party exhausted eroticism that set Bowie apart from mere glam."
Thanks to: crystal.

In the next few days, I will be uploading all my graphics to this server... so if things start disapperaing (as in graphics) they will be back online in less than minute...

I hope to have this site in complete 100% working order by the start of next week...

The MP3 of 'Black Bomb' is now online here and again the Real Audio version here. If you haven't heard the song yet please do so now. More information on this subject as in scans and the tracks on Josh Wink's latest album, "HEREHEAR" can be located in my March 21st report (located below)... but here's the new revised lyrics that I have just finished typing up...

taking over, assiting with my revalation
empty spaces, as if it was an invatation
your invasion, exceeding every expectation
now I feed from the many mouths of your persuation

resurection, infection, as I fade away
theres no fear, there is nothing left to make me stay
fitting in my new skin, just tell me what to do
I'm defined, I am blind, I am a part of you

big black bomb, attack

big black bomb, attack
break down resist us, fight back

big black bomb attack

big black bomb, attack
break down resist us, fight back

Now I am a part of you, attack
Now I am a part of you, resist us, fight back
Now I am a part of you, attack
Now I am a part of you, resist us, fight back

Also if you listen closely enough you can hear Josh Wink's cat in the back ground moaning over and over again. It becomes more noticable at 3 minutes and 24 second in the song and lasts to the end of the track.
Through the third chorus lines, the words muttered repeatedly are "jerry in the bag", hence the name...

Alanis and Trent

Here's a snippet from Undercover. UC reports as well as MTV that Alanis will sing vocals in a song off the upcoming NIN release, the Fragile.

...so we cannot assume it is indictative of a new sound direction Alanis may be heading in. Her new album won't be ready until later this year although we will here her vocals soon on new albums by Ringo Starr and Nine Inch Nails.
Thanks to: thomas.

Also here's a follow up about on the Mtv source they claimed to have on the Fragile release date... Reports show that Mtv had their sources crossed... sent in by: leslie (thanks for the hard work)

Alanis is mentioned on page 44 and on page 67. On page 44, they compare her to Nietzsche in an article entitled "The Lives They Lived." On page 67 she is mentioned in passing -- and I quote from the article "Hush Hush: The monthly dish on the music biz". . . Guy O. took Maverick from suspect vanity label to major industry player by striking multi-Platinum with Seattle clones Candlebox, and soon thereafter acheived weasel immortality by inking next-gen hit machine Alanis Morisette . . .

I have SCOURED this issue from cover to cover and find no mention, whatsoever, of Alanis being linked to Trent or vice versa. I know that your report came from MTV, but they must have their reference wrong or they have a special edition of the April issue. I've looked at every page and in every corner of the mag.

So what ever Mtv reported about this so called source, (read old news) they must be confused with another magazine or what not. I will be looking into this report, so stick here at SLS for the latest...
Thanks to: leslie.

Trent and Rob

A very large report can be found on Sonicnet.com about How Trent and Rob got together. Though some of this info is old (read old news) this one is more in depth. But for those who would like to read here are some snippets from the article. The rest can found here.

Rob "With the lyrics for Two, I decided to keep it simple -- more direct," the 46-year-old Halford explained by phone. "The majority of material is on a one-on-one level, whereas with Priest there was a fantasy element involved."

Their working relationship developed out of a chance meeting at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, when Halford gave Reznor a demo tape he'd been working on with guitar virtuoso John Lowery. "I was in New Orleans for Mardi Gras a couple years ago, and I knocked on his door, demo tape in hand. Rave Ogilvie [a friend of Reznor's who helped remix several NIN tracks and also helped produce Voyeurs] opened the door and we went into Trent's studio to listen. Trent came in, and asked what we were up to musically. He asked if he could keep the demo. I was floored."

Reznor apparently liked what he heard. He later phoned Halford in Phoenix, and offered his vision of the music. It's not hard to hear Reznor's influence on the Voyeurs material, 80 percent of which Halford said Reznor changed. From the eerie dynamics of the first single, "I'm a Pig", to the odd aural accouterments of "Gimp", Reznor imbues Halford's straight-ahead songs with the layered, abrasive quality that is a trademark of Nine Inch Nails music. "The demo tape was originally pretty straightforward stuff," Halford explained. "We went to Vancouver and reinvented the songs. I was going into areas I had never gone into, and it felt good. It all started making sense." The use of static as instrumentation and the stop/start dynamics of "Gimp" are certainly marks of Reznor's influence.

Thanks to: thomas.

Alanis on Fragile

This in on Friday's Mtv news... will Alanis Morissette be contributing vocals off the Fragile??

The Recording Industry Association of Amercia (R.I.A.A.) has pulled the plug on several websites featuring the new Alanis Morissette single, "Uninvited." The song, from the soundtrack to "City of Angels," isn't due for release until March 31, but was leaked to radio on March 6. "Newsbytes," a computer industry news service, reports that fast-working fans in L.A., hearing the song on KROQ, taped the track and uploaded it onto their websites. Several sites were involved, says "Newsbytes," including ones based in Los Angeles, London, England and Mexico City. The unauthorized material has now been removed, and in several cases, the whole site has been shut down. The action is part of a recent campaign by the R.I.A.A. to curb unauthorized reproductions of recordings on the Internet. Meanwhile, Morissette spokesperson Amanda Cagan reports that Morissette is only halfway through the writing phase of her next record and will be in no position to tour this summer or fall as reported by "Performance" magazine via Morissette's agent. Cagan says that Glen Ballard, who produced "Jagged Little Pill," is scheduled for production duties on the new album. Cagan also confirms that Morissette has been working with producer Rob Cavallo, but says their pairing was just for the sessions involving the soundtrack single. Morissette has also reportedly contributed vocals to the new Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails album due out this fall according to the April issue of "Spin," and she also appears on a new Ringo Starr CD alongside Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler. They perform a rock version of Dobie Gray's "Drift Away," as well as a song called "Minefield."
Anyways about that date release Mtv says Spin states... I can't seem to loacate that on the April issue of Spin. If anyone has read such a thing in the latest spin magazine, please let me know.
Thanks to: azad and buksnorth.

Trent Wins!

oscar In the latest Spin magazine on page 62, an article called "Short Subjects" features something called "Alternate Oscars" in which Reznor being one for Cinematography won for : Lost Highway and song The Perfect Drug.

Victory Video Set

New reports found on Mtv Online about the Victory remix... March 31 is the video release date and detailed information about the video is below...

What do Puff Daddy and Kevin Costner have in common?

More than you'd think, actually. If Puffy's newest video is any indication, both seem to fancy themselves as saviors of a post-apocalyptic world.

As we previously reported ("Read old SLS News concerning Trent remixing Victory"), Puffy's new video for "Victory" will include appearances by Dennis Hopper and Danny DeVito, and MTV News has learned that rapper Busta Rhymes has been added to the cast.

The video, which is set in a futuristic, rain-shrouded city replete with hopeless citizens and evil corporate institutions, will feature Puffy as a character who "holds the weight of the world on his shoulders" and "speaks for those who cannot speak for themselves, the oppressed, the downtrodden and the undesirable," according to a press release.

The "Victory" video, directed by Marcus Nispel, premieres on MTV March 31.

I don't know if Trent will be featured in the video, but when the video or the promo airs I'll have many screen shots of the vid here on SLS.

Josh Wink Promo

There have been some recent reports of Trent singing back ups in a new Josh Wink song, some details below...

Chat Wrap-Up at Yahoo

For those who missed the chat session with Michael Goldberg, Gil Kaufman and Chris Nelson... there wasn't much to see...

The topic of the this session was suppose to be about NIN, Manson and Sonic Youth. Many other topics were brought up consistently when they did not belong on such as Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, Snoop Doggy Dog and others. But what was even more interesting to the point was that the "Nothing Insiders" they claimed them selves to be- had no more NEW info than what we knew from long ago.

So for those who would like to catch up on the MAIN topics at yahoo... I've strung up a list of responses that were given from the host of the show...

SonicNetGuest says, "Gill: American Records founder Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys) is expected to lend a hand with production. Word is Reznor is headed in a slightly new direction, but it's unclear what this is." image

SonicNetGuest says, "Gill: It's hard to say what the Problem is, but Reznor has established a reputation as a perfectionist and studio rat, so one can only assume..." image

SonicNetGuest says, "Gill: But, on the other hand, if the results are half as good as "The Perfect Drug, " it will be worth the wait." image

SonicNetMod1 presents the speaker with question #358 from Lizbeth_N: Why the air tight atmosphere from Interscope/Nothing? Is this an indicator of their uncertainty over the new sound, or this *normal* pre-release NIN atmoshpere? image

SonicNetGuest says, "Gill: Trent Reznor is producing and Rick Rubin is also slated to lend a hand. image

SonicNetHost says, "Goldberg: Reznor has been working away in New Orleans." image

SonicNetMod1 says, "Nelson: My guess is that they just don't want leaks. With the way Music travels on the net these days, they probably just want to make sure their product stays under wraps untill release." image

SonicNetGuest says, "Gill: I doubt it has anything to do with being nervous, since Reznor's track record sales-wise, is pretty solid. image

SonicNetGuest says, "Gill: The NIN camp is almost always pretty tight-lipped about upcoming releases." image

SonicNetGuest says, "Goldberg: Trent is an artist, and he's not into repeating himself. I'm sure he wants to create the most killer album he can, and then unleash it on to the world. Not have bits of info leaking out..." image

SonicNetMod1 presents the speaker with question #29 from Tool_6_9: Will Trent play the Crow in the upcoming production?

SonicNetGuest says, "Gil: No."

For the most part, it was an enjoyable session and I enjoyed talking to everyone. In a few days I will have the whole transcript online... yahoo plans on having it online soon as well, but I plan on beating them, if I can...

Burning Souls

I was asked to let those who visit the Burning Souls web site, that Jay DeBard has been experimenting some problems with his computer and he hopes to be back online and updating again very soon.

Thanks to: Jay.

Today was a pretty slow day for news. sorry...

Gothic Talk

SonicNet mentions NIN and Manson and includes a live image of Trent. Nothing new to report, but of what they mention is below...

ap trent There are stirrings, these days, outside the cemetery of formerly dead pop-music trends. There is the eerily familiar Look of Madonna's new video for "Frozen," which has a definite Morticia Addams/Dead Can Dance vibe. Then there's the darkly humorous, ultra-hip cartoon series, "South Park," which recently included a "guest appearance" by Robert Smith of the Cure, one of the proto-goth groups. And even the titles of Marilyn Manson's "Apple of Sodom" and NIN's "Perfect Drug" have about them the decadent, decaying ambiance that made goth such a seductive musical opiate...

Official Crow News

On Friday it was announced that Pressman Films, the people who are developing the third Crow movie, are shifting directions and taking a new approach to the second sequel. Dark Horizons reports the core concept of a crow spirit ferrying dead souls back to the land of the living is out...

Rob Zombie is taking his original concept of a new dark ages and doing it as low budget independent feature for producers Ed Pressman and Jeff Most. The lack of immediate studio interest in the Crow version contributed to this change. Rob's film will now be totally original while more conventional Crow movies are being developed by Pressman and Most. New scripts are being created all around. This new reality should be seen as positive; Rob will have a chance to create something without the usual studio interference; new Crow films will be put into production without delay."
More from Dark Horizons...
The third film of this franchise is now going to be a completely different movie and have NOTHING to do with the 'Crow' characters or mythologies. Pressman Films is now looking for a new director and idea for another Crow sequel.
Though from yesterdays report about Rob being 'frustrated'... what is real or not? I'm keeping a close eye on this feature film, for Charlie Clouser of Nine Inch Nails are reported to be doing that soundtrack with Zombie him self, along rumord Trent playing the dead avenger...

More news later tomorrow...

Bill Nye

On 'Bill Nye the Science Guy' Thursday the 12th? There was a show about Perpetual Motion, and he was talking about craters or something, and they played Closer by NIN. It wasn't exactly Closer, but they did an *extremely* close representation of it.

Thanks to: Pael.

The Crow in Limbo

Muzic.com is reporting that Rob Zombie is having some difficulties with his latest work, Crow 3.

Rob Zombie, as everyone knows, also made the leap into the celluloid world this year, and he's been telling pals he's frustrated with the third Crow movie. He worked on it last year, but the project is currently in "limbo" and hasn't even started filming, despite the fact it was scheduled to begin last fall. Instead of fretting, Mr. Z. has been putting long hours into his solo album, but he did take a night off to see The Uppercrust at Spaceland last week. In case you missed him, he was the tall dreadlocked guy in the very long black leather coat, looking more like a hardcore biker than usual. When muzic.com harangued him about the White Zombie break-up rumors, he told us they were "just a load of crap." But saucy bassist Sean Yseult is working on a side project called Famous Monsters, and if you're wondering, there are other famous faces in the band -- we just can't tell you who. Yet. By the way, did you know that Lenny Kravitz is now a Yseult's neighbor in moody New Orleans? No, the two of them never get together -- nor do they see Trent Reznor, who only ventures out at night.
More on this when it comes in...

South Park

Rick Rubin who is working on the next NIN release w/ Trent won the rights to the upcoming soundtrack to the new movie by South Park... details below...

south parkOver at Columbia Records, the recent move to aquire the services of Rick Rubin is already paying dividends, as Rubin proved to be the deal sealer in winning the soundtrack rights to Comedy Central's smash animated series South Park. At the height of the bidding war, Arista, A&M, Interscope, Altantic, Epic, Warner Bros., MCA, and Columbia were desperately pleading their case for the privialge to throw down $1 million just for the rights, and another million minimum to fund the first record (the deal covers three LPs or four years, whichever comes first). Expect said album, due shortly, to feature Isaac Hay's "Chef" character in the role of the godfather of modern music, and to be crammed with serious star power.
Rumors are up about that NIN and Manson would be contributing. Highly doubtful though....

Vrenna/Finck/Rubin- Roses

The latest Spin magazine speaks of Vrenna and Finck in Guns n' Roses. Bascially old news, but news to be told... clipped details below...

g n' r According to Rose's manager Doug Goldstein, one of the main reasons for the album's delay is the musical rift between Rose and former lead guitarist Slash, who quit GNR last year. Goldstein says that Rose is now into acts like Nine Inch Nails and Prodigy and wants to update the band's sound, while Slash wanted to stick to their metal roots....

... But according to techno auteur Moby, who recently spent time with Rose in his Los Angeles studio, "Axel had finished several songs that soundliked like rock music with sampling technology and were really good." Golstein claims that finishing the record is now really just a matter of putting a good team together. The current GNR lineup features guitarist Robin Finck (ex-Nine Inch Nails), keyboardist Dizzy Reed, and guitarist Paul Huge. Rose has been auditioning other musicicians, including ex-Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abbruzzese and ex-NIN drummer Chirs Vrenna. As for producers, Rose has met with nearly every heavy-weight in the business, including Scott Litt (R.E.M.), Steve Lilywhite (U2), Flood (PJ Harvey, U2), Moby, and Rick Rubin- but has yet to make a final hire...

Two Makes Spotlight

In the recent issue of Maximum Guitar, Rob Halford explains interesting facts on how he met Trent, why the band name, the sound and more.... clipped details below, but if interested in reading the whole article I typed click here.

two...I was at Mardi Gras [in New Orleans] a couple of years ago and a friend drove me past Trent's studio, so I decided to stop by. Trent gave me a tour of the place, and I happened to have a cassette of demos that I was working on, so we popped it in the stereo.......

It's funny because Trent can't stand heavy metal and I've never been a fan of industrial music. To be honest, I haven't got a clue why Trent Reznor decided to work with me.

...... A lot of the stuff that sounds like keyboards is actually me tapping with my right hand and playing bass notes with my left.

[Two came to me when] I was thinking about the very simplicity of things like black and white, negative and positive, yin and yang........

MBM Confirmed

It's confirmed that the Depeche Mode Tribute will feature Meat Beat Manifesto as one of the many bands list on the contributors... A friend informed me today that they are doing a cover of "Everything Counts." He did some research and found out that this is confirmed on the mbm page Brain Wash, and that for awhile they even had a sound clip of it on the page, but it was taken down because of copyight considerations... Meat Beat Manifesto is one of several artists who have contributed to the upcoming Depeche Mode tribute album, For the Masses with an MBM rendering of DM's, "Everything Counts". The collection will be released on 1500 Records/A&M Records in summer '98 and also includes works by Smashing Pumpkins, Rabbit in the Moon, Devo, Crystal Method, DefTones, Mekon, and Monster Magnet. Trent is to Remix Victory

It's confirmed that Trent Reznor will remix Puffy's next single, "Victory" along with Goldie. The single is said to be released sometime in April... Details below...

Puffy Teams With DeVito, Hopper For Video; Reznor, Goldie Remix Him Puffy Combs Puffy Combs, who has just two dates of the latest leg of his "No Way Out" tour under his belt, will continue to flaunt his penchant for odd-ball parings with the arrival of his next single.

The rapper has teamed with Danny DeVito and Dennis Hopper to shoot his next video, which will be for the song "Victory." You might recall that Puffy and DeVito presented a Grammy together at last month's ceremony.

Meanwhile, Trent Reznor and Goldie will release remixes of "Victory" later in April. As we reported last month (see "Puffy Remixed By Reznor, Deftones, Mascis"), Anthrax, the Deftones and Dinosaur Jr. mastermind J Mascis have also remixed the track, but it's not yet known if they will be released. Puffy's "No Way Out" tour plays New York's Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

When this is to be released. I will have audio and video captures from the new 'Victory' video for display...

Rob Halford Speaks of Trent

With the new 'Two' album that was premiered yesterday March the 10th. Reports about Rob Halford's band is making the news. Here's what Mtv Online had to say...

Former Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford returns to record stores this week with his latest musical concoction, the industrial-touched rock outfit Two.

By now, those following Halford's career know that he has shed his straight up metal leanings and teamed with collaborators like producer and ex-Skinny Puppy member David Ogilvie, and Nine Inch Nails maestro Trent Reznor, who executive produced the debut effort from Two, titled "Voyeurs."

"He just consumes music like an animal, you know," Halford told MTV News of Reznor. "He just feasts on music 24 hours a day. He's constantly listening and exploring and using his own imagination when he hears things, as was the case with the original demos of Two. I'm sure that as he lived with them and got to know them he was just hearing things beyond that moment and there's not many people who can do that effectively" [600k Audio].

The fruits of this union can be found on "Voyeurs" which arrived in stores on Tuesday.

Skinny Puppy Remix

Allstar reports Chris Vrenna and many others are set to remix Skinny Puppy's long waited album...

The long- awaited Skinny Puppy remix album, which has been in the works for quite some time now, is finally taking shape. There's still no release date or album title yet, but it's due this year on Nettwerk Records.

Artists and producers confirmed to remix the influential band's songs include Ruby, Josh Wink, Chris Vrenna, Autechre, Rhys Fulber (formerly of Front Line Assembly), Adrian Sherwood, and possibly GonsterMacher. Fulber chose "Worluck," Sherwood picked "Tin Omen," and Autechre nabbed "Stairs and Flowers (Too Far Gone)." The other artists still haven't picked which songs they want to remix for the 10-12 track album.

"What we've been doing is selecting different artists, producers, and remixers that each represent a different genre or musical period," says the album's executive producer, Jeff Antebi of Waxploitation Entertainment, a management company and record label. He manages Vrenna, Al Jourgensen, GonsterMacher, Scanner, Joey Waronker, and others. "We're especially trying to highlight different styles within electronic music, since Skinny Puppy has had a great influence there."

Stabbing Westward Influenced

Stabbing Westward speaks about their latest work and mentions NIN and Trent as influences...

Well, the Cure nor Foghat they are not. The Dave Jerden- produced new album -- their follow-up to the successful Wither, Blister, Burn + Peel album, definitely rocks, whether Hall likes it or not. And there's nothing wrong with that. The first single, the tortured "Save Yourself," will likely gain as much alternative radio play as the band's last hit, "What Do I Have to Do?" However, with all the emotional pain and suffering displayed on Darkest Days, it seems the band may not be shedding those nasty Nine Inch Nails comparisons anytime soon.

"Anyone who would would say we're a Nine Inch Nails clone is just retarded and should not be writing about music, and has obviously never listened to either of the bands," says Christopher Hall. "But as far as people saying we sound like them, I can see it. We're obviously influenced by Depeche Mode and Ministry and Jane's Addiction, and I think you can fairly say the same about Trent, but at the same time, I would have to saythat [NIN's]Pretty Hate Machine is one of my favorite records. The whole 4AD scene in the '80s all had a similar vibe, but each band was very individual unto itself, and that's what I loved about it."

Dead to the World

The French version of the Marilyn Manson home video.... "Dead to the World" is in stores all over France.

The differences, first the box is in plastic, like all the tapes in France (we haven't any of the US VideoTapes paper-box in France....) and so the cover is a paper that is inside the transparent plastic of the box (we can remove it). On the cover, everything is the same! Except "Vidéo Secam Couleur" printed and.... the NOTHING CREDITS IN FRENCH!!! everything else is in english.... I watched the 3 first songs.... everything seems to be the same! NO FRENCH SUBTITLE :(... and the sticker on the tape is exactly the same!

Ok now, some explanation: in US the video format is NTSC In Europe it can be Pal/Secam or... Mesecam???(not often)

Why? because in states the power is at 60Mhz and europe 50Mhz AND the TV screen is not having the same number of lines!!!!! Actually every new european VCR is able to "Read Ntsc on a Pal TV" But when I do this, the screen is more little... So it was great to have a perfect image in Secam!"

I think most of european country is using the Pal Format, that's why I say this is the French version (and not Belgium, Swiss, or Quebec...)

Oh yes, and when you see a Pal video on a Secam VCR... that runs! The only difference is in the colours... you don't have them if you haven't the right format...

NIN Rejects Lollapalooza

This just in from Mtv News...

This year, it appears that at least six headliners have rejected Lolla offers, including Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson, the latter two because neither act could guarantee their albums would be finished in time. Manson's manager Tony Ciulla told the L.A. Times that the problem was timing: his client couldn't take a chance and commit to touring. Sources close to Trent Reznor say that the latest Nine Inch Nailsproject is nowhere near being prepared to support a tour as early as the summer.

Voyeurs Review

Just recently allstar did a brief review of Rob Halford's debut album "Voyeurs". For those who would like to hear a real audio sample of "I'm a Pig" click here.

Voyeurs Rob Halford's been stuck in career purgatory ever since he left the (Judas) Priest 'hood some years back. He tried to find redemption with the band Fight, but wound up breaking the 11th commandment ("thou shalt not covet Pantera's material"). The entire thing seemed like an embarassing mid-life crisis with Halford trading in his Harley and his studded leather cap for a nipple ring, a goatee, and a few bad tattoos. When he started dressing like Marky Mark during the Calvin Klein Underwear Years, his flock moved on to greener pastures. Thankfully for him, Halford's complete fall from grace was stopped by Trent Reznor, reviving the guardian angel role he played in extending his coattails for David Bowie's sagging career. Reznor signed Halford's new band to his nothing label and executive- produced this debut. As you can imagine, the album sounds like Nine Inch Nails lite, but it's still more interesting than anything Halford's done in years. Hell, if nothing else, Halford deserves credit for at least trying something new; too bad the same can't be said for Judas Priest.

"G n' R's manager, Doug Goldstein, recently told "Rolling Stone's" Matt Hendrickson that former Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck has become a fulltime member of the band. He also said that Rose is writing and jamming with keyboardist Dizzy Reed and guitarist and longtime Rose collaborator Paul Huge and that the bass slot was being left open until Duff McKagan makes a final decision on his plans for the future. Goldstein told Hendrickson that they were "three to five months away from actual recording" and not to expect a record until 1999."

David Bowie

Information about some promotional causes that feature David Bowie and "Trent's remix, "I'm Afraid of Americans."

David Bowie, Moby, Third Eye Blind, and the Dandy Warhols are among the artists partaking in C oca-Cola's campaign to get people to drink their new high- caffeine citrus beverage Surge, which they've created to compete with the likes of Mountain Dew.

In order to target the Gen X crowd, the soft drink company has started sending out 1 million enhanced CDs with a coupon for a free 20- ounce Surge soda to homes across the U.S. this past week. Featured on the disc are a video from each of the aforementioned artists, as well as Supergrass, Fluke, and Fatboy Slim.

The video track listing is as follows: Fatboy Slim, "Going Out of My Head"; Supergrass, "Sun Hits the Sky"; Fluke, "Absurd"; Third Eye Blind, "Narcolepsy" ; the Dandy Warhols,"Cool as Kim Deal"; David Bowie, "I'm Afraid of Americans" and Moby, "Ah-Ah."

"In other promotional news, Fluke's song "Absurd" is also going to help promote the new Volkswagen automobile line as well. As previously reported in AllStar the campaign kicks off with music from Spiritualized on March 23 and will run for a year.

Twist of Fate

Hit Parader just released yet another 2 page brief up on Trent's latest. Below are a few snippets off the April '98 issue. To read the whole article I just finished typing up. Click here.

hp article... Life, liberty and lawsuits have kept Reznor from releasing his next magnum opus, but believe us, its on its way. In fact, Reznor is currently hard at work on the next Nine Inch Nails album w/ none other than producer Rick Rubin...

...The next album is just the next logical step in the continuing evolution of NIN. Maybe it will even have some Dixieland flavor as Reznor and Rubin began the album down in New Orleans, recording at Reznor's renowned Nothing studios...

... Late last summer, a guy named Mark Nicholas Onofrio, from Houston, Texas, filed a complaint in Los Angeles federal court claiming the reznor used five of his songs on The Downward Spiral, and also declared that the song Burn on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack is incredibly similar to another track he had sent to Reznor...

Though HP brings up basically ALL old news, they bring up some interesting facts about the Onofrio case.

Burning Souls

I was asked by Jay DeBard to let everyone know that his web site 'Burning Souls' has moved to www.burningsouls.tierranet. com.

Piggy Video

Source off AltPress.com on details about Rob Halfords 'I'm a Pig' video and tour...

Former Judas Priest singer Rob Halford recently shot a video "I Am A Pig," a song from his new project Two's debut Nothing Records release, Voyeurs. In the video, the directors utilized the "talents" of a large group of "specialty" actors and actresses from the adult entertainment business. Halford and his band guitarist John Lowery, drummer Sid Riggs, former Machines Of Loving Grace bassist Ray Randio and former Nine Inch Nails keyboard player James Woolley will undertake a full-length American tour this summer.

Manson Speaks

Now I'm not sure if this is considered a rumor, so I'm calling it a semi-rumor, just for the time being... but take it as you will...

Mattrock On the first part on the Matttock Interview w/ Marilyn Manson. Manson said that Trent's new album is NOT going to be pop sounding, but HARDER.

Sorry for the lack of updates. It took me a while to write up the 'Twist of Fate' script. I'll have more updates a little later... have to finish them up...

We gave Matt Miller at nineinchnails.net the green light. We plan on collaboratingwith his web site. Details later...
