Answers Why The NIN Phoenix, Arizona Venue Changed & Tickets Converted to General Admission

There has been a lot of talk recently about Sunday's June 4th show in Phoenix, Arizona, because of the venue change from Veterans Memorial Coliseum to the America West Arena and because they converted all the tickets to General Audience a week prior to the concert. Although the official A Perfect Circle news web site mentions the Veterans Memorial Coliseum seating capacity is only 9,000, whereas, America West Arena holds approximately 17,000, there is more to the story than meets the eye.

Michael, an SLS viewer, made dozens of phone calls yesterday to learn the true reason behind this chaotic story and finally succeeded in getting useful information ONLY after starting over at the "beginning" (calling the old venue again).

Here's the scoop. Just as we mentioned before, the old venue is Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, which is on state fairgrounds, and basically the state contracts out to companies to manage things like concerts. This concert was managed by Valley Arena Management. The venue referred Michael to them, specifically to Jim Rogers.

"I just got off the phone with him," he said, "and finally received a full explanation. Apparently it was a problem with the 'rider'." Although Michael, nor I, know what that is specifically, "I'm not a concert techie, but from how he talked about it," added Michael, "it sounded like some kind of system for hanging stuff from the ceiling such as the LED screens." The old venue's rider is rated at 38,000 lbs. The Fragility tour requires 50,000 lbs. Approximately two weeks ago the conflict was discovered, and it was decided that a change of venue was the only solution. It was too late in the game to upgrade the rider and/or rework the setup that the tour uses. So things pretty much were up in the air...

"He also said that the people responsible for these decisions were PATE / WAC Entertainment," explained Michael, "the promoters listed on the ticket." Jim didn't know how to contact them. "They're not listed in any local or national phone books I've tried, any 800 directories," said Michael "or any search engines. I can't find any trace of them anywhere."

So that's the story on the change of venue. Now for the change to general admission.

Earlier yesterday Michael finally got someone at the new venue (America West Arena) that could confirm what he expected. "They changed to general admission because it was too complicated to re-map all the seating properly," Michael said. Jim had also commented that he suspected this was the case, and pointed out that it was too late to mail out new tickets. "Although I don't know why they couldn't just offer them at the show," Michael questioned.

It's interesting to note that both the new venue and dillards ticketing (this concert didn't go through ticketmaster) say that the promoter of the concert is Concerts West. "They're currently based in LA," Michael added, "though I've been unable to get ANYTHING more specific than that, despite looking in numerous phone books and making numerous calls." The venues consider that kind of information private to their clients. "I spent the whole day looking," he added, "but all I found on them is a 10-year-old address from when they were based in Dallas, from a guy I know who owns a record store and ticketmaster outlet in El Paso."

Michael may have even more confirmation of all this later today. "The new venue's public relations department referred me to the director of booking, and I left him a message." With any luck he might get a call back today and confirm/add to our above report. One of the questions Michael wants to ask is, why there's a disagreement about who's managing the concert (the PATE/WAC versus Concerts West issue).

"There are a lot of fans paying a lot of money to see a concert," Michael explained, "and the least they deserve is the few hours' extra planning necessary to convert the seating chart for the new venue." Michael mentioned, "changing it to GA this last-minute is ridiculous." He admitted that he'll probably end up with better seats as a result of all this, "but I still object to it on behalf of all the people who will get royally screwed. I'm sure there will be hundreds of front-row-seaters who originally got their tickets for very high prices and won't know about the venue change. They'll be extremely late because they'll drive to the wrong place. Then when they finally make it: "Guess what? Your seats have been given away!"

San Diego Show Not Cancelled Afterall

Although the official A Perfect Circle tour web site still lists the June 3rd performance at the Coors amphitheatre cancelled, which is really to be held at the Cox Arena, it's in fact not cancelled, say sources, but an error on the webmasters part?

Troy Van Leeuwen, A Perfect Circle Guitarist, Discusses Opening for NIN

Hop on over to AntiMTV.com where they feature an interview with Troy Van Leeuwen, who is the guitarist for A Perfect Circle. The new interview, not only talks about the recording of APC, but also about Napster, MP3s, the "heavy metal" and "hard rock" status, Nine Inch Nails tour, Trent Reznor and much more... Below is a blurb from the interview on what he said about Trent:

Master: has this been a dream gig for you? being that you got in with a band with so much talent and fronted by maynard? plus playing in arenas with "nine inch nails"?

Troy: yea, i don't think i can complain one bit (heheh). i mean honestly, after playing with "failure", and joining this band, i received calls from everybody and their mothers to play with them. i mean, i said no to touring with "foo fighters" and even turned down an audition with "nine inch nails" because didn't want to go out and support these records that i wasn't really attached to. i at least had a couple of songs on this record and got to see it grow.

Master: so your on tour right now with "nine inch nails". and of coarse this means on tour with the "super genius" trent reznor. have you been able to sit down and have a conversation with him? has he been able to teach you anything?

Troy: our conversations have been pretty sparse and he keeps for the most part to himself. i think he has a lot on his mind. he seems to be a genuinely nice person. he's just very busy.

Check out the entire two page interview here.

Possibility of Manson To Make Another Guest Appearance with NIN?

According to Troy, who attended the New Orleans show on May 25th, over heard a NIN roadie talking to two girls about Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor next to him. When asked if NIN and Manson would do another show like the one in Madison Square Garden, "he said there had been some discussion about it, but it was unlikely that they would. If they do another show it would be in LA," explained Troy. The roadie was also asked about Trent and Manson's friendship. His reply, just like he has said in the press, was that Trent and Manson weren't good friends just yet, but that Trent simply wasn't mad at him anymore. It'll just take some time...

Maynard Mentions The Fragile On Stage, APC/Tool Special Guest Performance

On Sunday, May 18th, Digits, attended the Kansas City, MO NIN/APC concert and about halfway through a Perfect Circle's set, Maynard asked if everyone had bought the new NIN album, which "he said we should," explained Digits. Maynard then proceeded to say, "that we have a special guest from Payola Kansas," added Digits, "which everyone started getting really excited about." The special guest happened to be Danny Carry, who is the drummer for Tool. Then Maynard had everyone ask, "So when's that new tool album coming?" To which he replied in deep gruff voice, "next march."

Omaha World-Herald Interviewed NIN Drummer Jerome Dillon

Published in today's Omaha Herald newspaper and Omaha World-Herald Online Edition is a pre-NIN article/interview by staff writer Niz Proskocil. Niz briefly interviewed nine inch nails' drummer Jerome Dillon on the phone from Houston, where the band performed May 22nd.

"As of Wednesday," the staff writer reported, "more than half of the 10,000 available tickets for Tuesday's show had been sold." When NIN performed in Omaha 94/95, the venue only held 5,500. This time they are to perform in the Civic Auditorium, and since NIN opened for Daivd Bowie during the Self-Destruct tour, the seats have doubled because of the arena tour. So those who want to catch another show or have yet too, tickets are $40 and are available at Ticketmaster locations and at the Civic Auditorium box office, 1804 Capitol Ave.

Check out the interview here: Nine Inch Nails to Rock the Civic.

Thanks a lot to: Terry Hickman.

Charlie Clouser's SplatterCell Remix Release Date & Theremin Info

Morpheus TechnoPagan, the webmaster of The Remix Files, received a letter from Charlie Clouser a few days ago about his latest work and some info about his equipment he uses on stage.

The first one is about the SplatterCell (David Torn's new project) remix, which we first mentioned on March 23rd ("Charlie Clouser To Remix Track For SplatterCell") and more recently on our May 5th headline ("More Info Concerning C. Clouser's Remix of the SplatterCell Track").

According to Charlie, "the SplatterCell remix has just been finished (last week) and is on its way to mastering. It clocks in at a massive 12 minutes or so!". The SplatterCell remix album -feat. Charlie's remix among others- will be released on August, 22 on "75ARK Records" in the USA.

The second information is about the Theremin that Charlie uses on-stage during the Nine Inch Nails performances. Many people wondered if it was a model especially designed for Charlie.... So, "I asked Charlie if it is the case or if the model he's using is the standard Theremin designed by Bob Moog," said Morpheus. "The theremin I'm using IS the Bob Moog Etherwave model," said Charlie Clouser, "and it is fantastic. The best-playing theremin I've tried, except for its big brother. Truly a fine electronic instrument that is sensitive, expressive, and durable (!), despite its somewhat plain appearance. I'm running it through a TC Electronics FireWorx effects processor to add distortion, delay, filters, pitch changers, etc., which is quite helpful at livening up the somewhat sterile sound of a 'dry' theremin. See Big Briar's website for ordering info!"

Come on to the "news" section of "The Remix Files" for further information. Currently his "Theremin" page is already up, while his "SplatterCell" section will be added to the "Remixes" section on Tuesday at the latest....

Starsuckers Inc: Behind the Scenes Online Footage

The official Nine Inch Nails' web site have created a three page behind the scene look and making of the latest NIN video f/ Marilyn Manson: Starsuckers, Inc.

The exclusive online video documentary, also features nine photos and a live QuickTime [4.5 MB] clip of unused band performance footage filmed by Marilyn Manson and Robert Hales, which we mentioned on our May 9th headline "New Info About The Two New NIN EPs and Starsuckers, Inc Video."

Also among the cut footage are descriptions of the set, what was used to create the 3-day video shoot and many photos taken through April 7th to April 9th. If you haven't noticed by now, some photos come equipped with behind the scene QuickTime video footage shot in Lancaster, California. Four photos include footage of the pitching machine smashing a plate, Trent's throwing skills, singing in the limousine, and how they were able to pull off the Hollywood banner drop behind his limo.

M2 NIN Special: Extra Footage Not Seen Before & Interviews

Here's some extra information about the M2 Nine Inch Nails special that aired all weekend long. When they first aired Trent's video requests, the show ran over by about ten minutes. "I caught the tail end of it again on Friday night and they cut out Blur's Song 2," said Chris, "and watched it again yesterday morning, I noticed they cut out the Bronski Beat song towards the beginning, too, and an interview segment before I'm Afraid Of Americans."

Now that the programming has gone into its third instalment of Trent's favorite videos. In addition to the differences mentioned above, M2 played a song that wasn't aired on any of the showings yesterday or the day before. After they cut out the interview clip where Trent talks about working with Bowie, then showed I'm Afraid Of Americans, they played Einstruzen Neubauten's "Stella Marin" before they played Queen/Bowie's "Under Pressure."

"I also wanted to note that the two hour tour documentary contained over an hour of the same NIN videos they'd played all day long already," he explained, "and a few songs from the Fragility v1.0 special." But there were a few live camcorder filmed clips that hadn't been shown before, plus lots of interviews with Trent and the other band members. "One surprise was that they aired the Gave Up video from Closure and forgot to censor the computer screen close up with 'Fuck You Steve' in the title bar."

"There also might be some interview clips on the block of NIN videos today," said Chris, which I'll make sure to watch, if I can wake up. "While the one VJ was talking about it," added Chris, "she said something about, "hear Trent tell about why the FBI paid him a visit after filming the Down In It video." I'm sure we've all heard that story a hundred times, but I don't recall them discussing it at all in the 8 hours of programming on Saturday. So, I'm hoping there will be some new interview segments in there, too.

Dope Mentions NIN in New AP Magazine

Found in the new Alternative Press, (July 2000, with Creed on the cover) is a small interview with the metal band Dope under the "Stupid Questions" section. Here they asked Edsel Dope, the band's front man about his favorite albums, which he mentioned NIN:

AP: Favorite albums of all time?

Edsel: There are three - Motley Crue's "Shout Out At The Devil" NWA's "Straight Outta Compton" and Nine Inch Nails' "Pretty Hate Machine"

Thanks a lot to: Diseased Angel.

Nine Inch Nails "Starsuckers Inc." Premieres on MTV Russia

The latest Nine Inch Nails video "Starsuckers, Inc" premiered on MTV Russia "12 Angry Viewers" show. "After the video the viewers had quite a hot debate about it," said ZZZombiE who saw the program. "Everyone was telling how great this video was and after one guy said bad things about it, several guys started a pillow fight with him." During the voting, the video received 9 thumbs up, 2 down votes and 1 person didn't vote. "But when they were choosing the best video of the show," he added, "Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson received 7 votes, thus becoming the best video of the show!"

Also, one of the viewers was a stripper and at the end of the show she showed some of her talent said ZZZombiE. "And the music she used while stripping was of course "Starsucker, Inc" by Nine Inch Nails. One of the best "12 Angry Viewers" shows I've ever seen," he explained.

MTV's Top 20: Starsuckers Inc #8

Although Starsuckers Inc, has yet to return to MTV's TRL, it currently rests in the middle of their Top 20 countdown and has been climbing the MTV video charts for some time! We reported on May 23rd in our 'Random Nothing News' section, the video rested at position 17. Well, in under a week it currently rests at #8 amazingly. It's to bad MTV features a photo from "into the void", for the video instead of something for Starsuckers Inc. Go figure...

What's On The Horizon For NIN & M2 Video Request List

Steven Flores, an SLS viewer, submitted the list of videos Trent Reznor selected for the M2 weekend special, which included more than a dozen NIN videos, classic 80's and 90's alternative rock, hip hop videos and more.

During Trent's first five hours of music video requests, many brief interviews with Trent were spliced in between his choices including his own videos. Some of the many topics expanded from Bill Viola's LED backdrops contributions, Reznor bearing the hatchet with Marilyn Manson to what's next on the NIN agenda. Below is what Trent had to say, right before M2 aired WITT, about some plans he's been conjuring.

Question: What's next on the horizon for Nine Inch Nails after the tour?

Trent: We may continue the tour a bit longer. We talked about some ideas...possible things in the fall. We did a really stripped down acoustic... I don't want to say unplugged, but deconstructed set in a radio station the other day. It was so inspiring. I may do an album like that of some of the old songs and some new songs like that format. Very much like, not acoustic in our own case. Minimal sparse, and kind of beautiful. I may do that, I'm not sure. Lot of stuff also... music ready to go for another album. So, many options.

Although Trent didn't mention what radio station he referred too, it might have been the live 101 session when they swung by the Chicago alternative rock station Q101 on April 27th to perform 6 tracks. In any case, the radio station is irrelevant.

Below is the list of videos Trent Reznor selected for M2:

NIN - Down In It, Public Enemy - Night of the Living Baseheads, New Order - Perfect Kiss, Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy, Weezer - Say It Ain't So, The Cure - Just Like Heaven, NIN - March Of The Pigs, Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead, Erykah Badu - On & On, NIN - Hurt, XTC - Dear God, The Church - Under The Milky Way, Devo - Satisfaction, Julian Cope - World Shut Your Mouth, Adam & The Ants - Stand & Deliver, Frank Black - Los Angeles, Ebn Ozn - Aeiou Sometimes Y, Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy, NIN - The Perfect Drug, The Smiths - This Charming Man, Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime, NIN - Head Like A Hole, Pantera - Walk, My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow, NIN - Into The Void, Peter Gabriel - Digging In The Dirt, A Tribe Called Quest - Scenario, Pulp - This Is Hardcore, Jesus & Mary Chain - Just Like Honey, NIN - Wish, Atari Teenage Riot - Revolution Action, Blur - Beetlebum, David Bowie - I'm Afraid Of Americans, Queen & David Bowie - Under Pressure, Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart, NIN - Burn, Dr. Dre & Ice Cube - Natural Born Killers, Ween - Freedom Of '76, Bjork - All Is Full Of Love, Imani Coppola - Legend Of A Cowgirl, NIN - Closer, Bad Brains - I Against I, Outkast - Rosa Parks, NIN - Starsuckers, Inc., Buckcherry - Lit Up, Marilyn Manson - Dope Show, Ice-T - I'm Your Pusher, NIN - Pinion, Marc Almond - Tears Run Ring, Q-Tip - Vibrant Thing, Altered Image - I Could Be Happy, Dandy Warhols - Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth eels - novocane for the soul, Sonic Youth - Bull In The Heather, Wax - California, Soundgarden - Loud Love, Blur - Song 2, NIN - We're In This Together (shorter version), David Bowie - Fashion Iggy Pop - Corruption, Cracker - Low
M2 also mentioned that Monday at 7am & 7pm EST, they are to play an hour long block of more NIN videos.

Thanks a lot also to: Chris.

Nine Inch Nails June 4th Venue Update

We have an update about the June 4th Phoenix show. The America West Arena box office is now saying that the arena will be spilt into floor GA, lower tier GA, and upper tier GA. Meaning if you had reserved tickets in the lower tier before, you now are able (not by choice) to sit anywhere in the lower tier. For those who had excellent seats, that means standing out all day in the Arizona sun to get those same seats. Not to mention "the Who" potential of trying to get that many people in general admission....more to come as we learn it.

Thanks again to: Brian.

The Journal Star Interviewed Trent Reznor

In support of the upcoming Nine Inch Nails show at Omaha's Civic Auditorium on Tuesday night. The Journal Star "Ground Zero" featured a new, but brief interview with Trent Reznor for the May 30th concert, which you can read here.

Below is a blurb from the interview:

Q: You're obviously not gripped by commercial considerations -- three full-length albums in 10 years isn't a mark of hunger for sales. But there had to be some relief in the success of "The Fragile" (which debuted at No. 1), knowing that people still wanted to hear what you had to say musically.

A: Very much so. I've convinced myself we're starting from scratch. I didn't know if everyone was still out there. I had to tell myself, it's a new era, a new climate. A lot of things have changed. The business has changed -- record labels don't appear to like music anymore. It's a very hostile climate for bands.

So I put out a record that's longer than most, denser than most, costs more than most, requires you to listen harder. What could I expect? I'm surprised with the success it's had. I'm also surprised with the lack of support Seagrams (owner of Interscope Records) has given it. The development of art means nothing to them. It's all, "What's the next Britney Spears?" That's disheartening to see a climate like that, to see your favorite labels like 4AD or Creation evaporate.

Thanks a lot to: Terry Hickman.

NIN Change Phoenix Venue to America West Arena

Yesterday, radio station 98 KUPD announced that the Sunday, June 4th Phoenix show was relocated from the old, smaller Veterans Memorial Coliseum to the new, larger America West Arena. According to the ticketing agent Dillards, the seating, floor and stage layout are the same, so everyone with tickets will retain their present seat. However, more tickets for the second show and presumably, the floor (which is larger) go on sale on a date unknown. Possibly as soon as today the 27th.

SPIN Review Opening NIN Show, SPIN.com NIN Contest This Month

Featured in the July 2000 of Spin magazine, with Matchbox 20 on the cover, is a NIN concert (reviewed by John Petkovic) of the April 12, 2000 Cleveland State University show. "It's fairly negative of the crowd more so of NIN," said Ben P Millwood, who receives his copies in the mail. The new issues also notes for us fans to check out SPIN.com this month to win NIN memorabilia, such as a signed keyboard by Trent Reznor.

Below is a blurb from the review:

When he obliged, the response was automatic: "Head Like A Hole", "Terrible Lie" , and "Closer" turned the room into a sea of clenched fists, rooster-like bobs, and stripper like struts. When he didn't as on the Fragile's "La Mer","The Wretched", and "The Day The World Went Away" ( "These are the songs we like to play" Reznor pointedly remarked), fans slumped in their seats as the musicians explored rich layers of deep grooves, guitar dirges, and delicate melodies. As 3 video screens rose above the stage, the blazing lights dimmed, and NIN all but disappeared, becoming background music for images of oceans and rolling feilds straight out of an IMAX adventure. While offering a hypnotic high, this band sublimination underscored the disconnect between Reznor and the arenas he still aspires to fill. It's much easier to ryhme "hole" with "Soul" than it is to play soundtrack music for the masses. Especially when the movie is a real- life voyage to the bottom of a soul filled with bricks"
They also have a photo of Trent live hunched over singing to the crowd, and Finck in the background. Just above the picture is snippet that reads " Trent Reznor; He went back to Ohio, but his city was gone."

Goo Goo Dolls Bassist Robby Takac Votes NIN's the Downward Spiral His 3rd Personal Favorite of the 90s

VH1 held a poll for the Best albums of '90s, which NIN's "The Downward Spiral" is featured on the list. VH1's "The List" debated yesterday the countdown and Goo Goo Dolls bassist Robby Takac voted The Downward Spiral as his #3 choice. His #1 choice was Nirvana "Nevermind" and #2 Radiohead for "The Bends." The audience then chose their top three albums from the list, which turned out to be.... #3 Garth Brooks "No Fences" & Radiohead "OK Computer," #2 Pearl Jam "Ten" and #1 Nirvana for "Nevermind."

Comment Concerning The Fragile From Foo Fighters

It seems Trent should have thrown a ball or two at Foo Fighters in the new Starsuckers, Inc video along with the many of the other plates he smashed with his side-show circus skills, but as do all... everyone is entitled to their opinion. The following comment came from bassist Nate Mendel of the Foo Fighters, which appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune yesterday.

If Mendel sounds skeptical about doing an arena tour, pay it no mind. He felt the same way about recording at Grohl's house when the idea came up. Recalling other acts who have tried to record an entire album with no outside input, he thought working in Alexandria was a "recipe for disaster."

"You can always tell when a band is about to get sh---y," Mendel said. "They build their own studio and record a bunch of self-indulgent crap . . . and end up with a double album of experimental sh--."

Starfuckers, Inc Single Around the Corner & More on Unreleased Fragile Tracks

Mac, who is a resident of Mississippi, drove three hours to see his first Nine Inch Nails show, which was in New Orleans last night and had the chance to meet up with Danny Lohner and Jerome Dillon of NIN, Maynard and Paz of A Perfect Circle. Danny briefly chatted about the unreleased Fragile tracks, the upcoming Starfuckers, Inc single and a bit more with Mac.

"I'm a huge fan and I have every halo plus other rare items from them including all their videos," he said. "I must admit I had goosebumps because I have never seen such very well put together lighting and special effects before," he explained. "And yes, I'm going to admit that when he played hurt, when Trent started to shed a tear, I did so with him as well. I think everyone did," he added, "that had to be the most moving song of the night."

Although he said he was unable to catch a key from the smashed keyboards, he felt a little left down personally that he was leaving without anything physically memorable. Well, that was soon to change once he made his friends join him on a short crusade to the tour busses straight after they bought a T-shirt from the merch stands.

"We went over there and there was a huge gothic crowd waiting for a sign of Trent," he said, "but I knew that Trent wouldn't come out, I just knew he wouldn't." After waiting a while, he saw a short guy walking to a bus with a box, and no one noticed that this guy was Maynard from a Perfect Circle. "They all saw me walking and I asked him for his autograph," explained Mac. Maynard said to his question, "No, but lets see how long you stick around and maybe you will get lucky". So Mac thought he was kind of busy and would stick around, just like Maynard said. "Everyone had no idea who he was still," he said. "I guess because he didn't have his wig on?" About 20 minutes later, out comes none other but Danny Lohner and Paz from a Perfect Circle. "Paz is the hot bassist chic," Mac commented. "No one recognized these two either," he added. "I was like, 'People are you retarded?' No I didn't say this out loud, because I knew this would be my opportunity." So he met them both, "and they had to be two of the nicest people I have ever met," he explained.

"I got Danny to autograph my CD, and Paz to autograph my ticket," he said. "We talked about a few things, which I asked him about the fragile tracks. Danny said they have to cut a few because of production, but we would soon be able to get the tracks cut after the lost fragile comes out," explained Mac. "I also asked him about if Trent had any new video game plans in the works," he add, "but Danny said no." He then asked Danny about the Starfuckers single, "and he said to look for that really soon," explained Mac, which Danny then said the rest of the gang would be out in a few minutes. So he waited again and after another hour the only people to come out, were all the members of A Perfect Circle. "I managed to get all their autographs and smoke a few cigarettes with them," he said. Maynard later showed back up in a cab, which he finally gave Mac an autograph and said, "Hurry, I got important things to do like watch Caddyshack and eat popcorn," which Mac found humorous. Thinking of how much he has to do everyday, "I asked him, 'Do you get hassled by fans a lot?', he said 'No you are the first to recognize me without my wig, let me congratulate you', and he shook my hand and he was off." After another hour, the only person to come out of NIN was Jerome Dillon. "I got his autograph and we chatted. He didn't have much to say," added Mac, "except to let us all know that Trent, and Charlie took off out of an entrance way 2 hours ago in a blue van. I hated that," he said, "but I was satisfied enough with what I got, and talked to Danny some more about misc. things." They had to go, "so we headed home and that was my first NIN concert experience." he said.

NIN Attends Performance of Gabriel Byrne's "A Moon For the Misbegotten" Broadway Play

Actor Gabriel Byrne, who starred in Stigmata and End of Days, is currently staring on Broadway in the play "A Moon For the Misbegotten." In an interview found in the current week's issue of Time Out New York magazine, the interviewer mentions that NIN attended one of Mr. Byrne's performances, but Mr. Byrne is very confused. This portion of the interview follows:

TONY: I heard that Nine Inch Nails came to your show the other night. Did you see them?

Gabriel Byrne: Somebody said, "Oh, Nine Inch Nails are out there," and I had this image of these nails sitting there. But I don't know how many Nine Inch Nails there are. Billy Corgan. Doesn't he play with them?

TONY: Billy Corgan is one of the Smashing Pumpkins.

Gabriel Byrne: Okay. Nine Inch Nails-[Sheepishly] I don't know who Nine Inch Nails are. Billy Corgan did the music for a movie I did, Stigmata... don't write that I thought he played with Nine Inch Nails, or he'll never speak to me again.

Trent Reznor Interviewed by the Times-Picayune

Found over on the official New Orleans web site is a massive interview with Trent Reznor, when he called from a tour stop in Florida.

In this new interview with the Times-Picayune newspaper, Trent breaks down his NOLA life story, on how he fell under the Big Easy's spell while touring behind Nine Inch Nails' 1989 debut, "Pretty Hate Machine" all the way up to his critically acclaimed "The Fragile." What motivated Trent to decide to pack his bags and leave Cleveland, was when his apartment complex was broken into.

Also in this interview, Trent talks about Preservation Resource Center benefit he held at his Garden District mansion on Friday, December 11th '98 at 7-10pm. Below is the blurb about why he chose to hold it:

In December 1998, Reznor opened his home for a Preservation Resource Center benefit. The PRC works to preserve old homes like the one Reznor bought; for a $75 donation to the organization, anyone could stroll through his house.

"It was asked, and I thought it would make me furnish (the house) a bit better than it was; it was a challenge to get it up to speed," Reznor said. "I think it worked out well. I didn't really know what to expect; I didn't know if it would be real stuffy. But everyone was cool."

We featured many articles about this benefit when word first broke of Trent hosting this in his newly refurbished mansion. Luckily, there were a few SLS viewers who pitched in their $75 and attended this memorable event and wrote us back the details, which you can read on our December 15th '98 headline "EXCLUSIVE - New Nine Inch Nails News." We were even fortunate enough to be given an exclusive, yet extremely detailed two-page review about all that happened on that cold December night, which you can read here.

Thanks a lot to: Steven Flores.

Matt McDonough, Drummer of Mudvayne, Comments About the Fragile

Mike Cameron, an SLS viewer, who attended the Mudvayne, whose album comes out on Epic Records on August 15, Hatebreed, Coal chamber, Sevendust and Slipknot concert couldn't help but hear a Nine Inch Nails' "Something I Can Never Have" from the Natural Born Killers soundtrack over the PA before the Sevendust set. Mike said, "They let the song play completely through the first verse and right when Trent sings... 'I just want something... I just want something...' **bang** they started playing." He commented, "It was incredible though. The lights were off and 3,000 people were singing it. It made the night, definitely."

Although we've mentioned this many times in the past, Mike emailed Matt McDonough, the drummer for Mudvayne, and asked him what he thought of The Fragile to which he replied, "I got the new NIN, definitely his best work to date.

Dallas Morning News Review NIN's Starplex Amphitheatre Performance

Dallasnews.com reviewed Nine Inch Nails performance at the Starplex Amphitheatre on Tuesday, which can be read on the official site here: Fans hammered at Nine Inch Nails show.

Below is a snippt from Thor Christensen who reviewed the concert for the Dallas Morning News:

...Keyboardist Charlie Clouser engaged in man-to-man combat with his synthesizer, punching and slamming the instrument until it bounced up and down and spun in circles. But the real ringleader was Mr. Reznor, an intense, brooding frontman who loved to writhe across the floor and hurl bottles of water into the crowd as if they were hand grenades.

The Lost Fragile Tracks: Deciphering what makes the cut

After reading our May 19th headline "Unreleased NIN and Remixed Fragile Tracks Release Info!!," Dan Hennigan, an SLS viewer, was quick to notice Keith Hillebrandt walking around outside before people were let into the Houston arena, which Dan quickly brought up the unreleased Fragile tracks subject.

"I ran into Keith Hillebrandt and talked to him a bit about the lost Fragile tracks," explained Dan. "He said that Trent and him were still working on them and trying to figure out what makes the cut and what doesn't." Keith, rephrasing what he said last week, mentioned to Dan that even if the unreleased Fragile tracks were ready to go that a release for next month is highly unlikely. "He then hooked me up with a backstage pass for after the show," said Dan.

Morpheus TechnoPagan, who maintains the Remix Files website and also keeps in close touch with Charlie Clouser, wrote us about what the possible Clouser remix he's been working on for the upcoming NIN album. Check out our headline, "Starfuckers Inc Single To Feature C. Clouser Remix, NIN to Possibly Tour This Fall Too, NIN.com Day After Dallas Surprises & More" for more info.

Clouser mentioned to Morpheus, back in January, that he would like "to take a stab at 'Please' and see what happens...". Morpheus explained, "Please is apparently one of Charlie's favorite tracks off The Fragile, but he wanted to discuss with Trent about the remix first." Morpheus added, "I don't know what happened since...," but as of today, the remix is unconfirmed.

"Although it was an awesome experience," Dan said about hanging backstage, "not much happened. Keith, Jerome Dillon, and the webmaster for NIN.com were the only people hanging out." Danny Lohner, who is from Texas and had relatives with him that night, "finally came out to visit with the fans for about 10 minutes," he said. "Security made us all stay in one room," he added, "but those of us who got a little ballsy and went down the hall, had the opportunity to meet Robin Finck and Charlie Clouser for a few seconds as they were leaving to get on the bus."

As soon as they left, Dan noticed a man leave a room with Daisy May (Trent's dog) and walked her out to the tour bus. "I felt pretty confident then that Trent would be coming out soon," he added, "but he never did and security made everyone leave." Trent, who told the audience that he forgot how much he liked playing in Texas, was no where to be found that night unfortunately, but Dan was not leaving unhappy with what Keith gave him. "It doesn't get any closer than that and I know there probably won't be a next time but it was fun," he said.

Gothic Clothing Designer Describes Marilyn Manson's Style

The famous Los Angeles gothic clothing Designer, Terri King, who has dressed Trent Reznor, Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Skinny Puppy, Filter, and many others in the past with her creations, mentions Marilyn Manson heavily about his clothing style and how she was able to create the image Manson needed when he toured for Mechanical Animals. The interview, which can be found on Horror Online, can be read in it's entirety here. Below is the snippet about Marilyn Manson:

Stated Terri in an interview with Smug Magazine in regards to her work with Marilyn Manson (the musician's latest album and tour 'Mechanical Animals' featured many of her designs), "I'm very proud of all of the work that I did for Marilyn, but I must tell you that he has a very big hand in what he wears. He's his own personality, and basically, when I work with him, I feed off what he loves. He comes to me with an idea already in his head. I don't think there's ever a time when I've worked with him when he hasn't already had a vision, and my job is more to bring that out."
The interview also states that her most recent event, was a fashion show held at Hollywood's Club Makeup. The show featured such celebrity models as Twiggy from Marilyn Manson, Hole's Eric Erlandson, Tairre B. from My Ruin, Meigs of Coal Chamber and The Newlydeads' Taime Downe, among others.

In addition, Terri now offers her creations online at www.terrikingclothing.net, a site which features not only an interactive catalogue (replete with pictures of several of her celebrity models wearing her designs), but also articles and up-to-the-minute information in regards to her fashion shows, evenings which in themselves are nothing short of extravaganzas.

Thanks a lot to: VisitanteX.

Further Information about the Unreleased Fragile Tracks, Fragile Remixes, Summer Tour, Tapeworm & More

George, the SLS viewer, who attended the May 14th Nine Inch Nails concert in Charlotte, NC and hung out with the band backstage for three hours, wrote us back with further information about the unreleased Fragile tracks, remixed Fragile tracks and some insight about NIN's next possible tour schedule.

Although Keith Hillebrandt and the band wants to keep further information about the unreleased and remixed Fragile tracks pretty locked down, he did confirm the new remix album will include remixes by Alec Empire of Atari Teenage Riot, the rest of the NIN crew and by Keith himself. For more information about the Alec Empire remix, please read our January 30th "Atari Teenage Riot Wants To Remix NIN's Starfuckers Inc. or our "Alec Empire of Atari Teenage Riot To Remix Track(s) Off The Fragile" headlines for more info.

"I had asked Trent about Chino Moreno," frontman of the Deftones, "being on some of the tracks as rumored," explained George. "He said when I told him that it was the first time he had ever heard of Chino being on there." Although Trent didn't tell him a definite release date for Tapeworm, he did say around Christmas time!

The Deftones rumor came into place when we reported on our March 14th headline "Possible Charlie Clouser / Deftones Collaboration?," which Morpheus TechnoPagan, the webmaster of the Charlie Clouser remix website, wrote us when he asked Clouser about a possible collaboration between Chino Moreno. Clouser mentioned to Morpheus that he would like to remix some tracks off the new Deftones album, since plans were canceled for Clouser to produce -or co-produce- the album due to incompatible schedules... In result Clouser mentioned to Morpheus in March, that he would perhaps have Chino sing on a track written by Charlie, but he didn't specify at the time if that was for another side-project or Tapeworm, which is why George asked Trent if Chino appeared on Tapeworm.

"Trent also commented about when they come back form Europe that they are doing a package tour with someone else," explained George. At this time, it's uncertain who this band will be, but Trent commented he wanted to perform in smaller clubs, but the reactions from fans complain about tickets were unsettling. "But they are coming back over to the states after the festivals in Europe," confirmed George.

More importantly, "Charlie Clouser mentioned that they have all ready started on the NEW Nine Inch Nails album and promised it wouldn't take 4 years to make," said George. "They plan to finish it briefly after the tours!"

For more information about the release of the remixes and more, please read our May 19th headline "Unreleased NIN and Remixed Fragile Tracks Release Info!!"

Starfuckers Inc Single To Feature C. Clouser Remix, NIN to Possibly Tour This Fall Too, NIN.com Day After Dallas Surprises & More

Some things just work out for the dedicated, while other plans just don't move as smoothly as one may think, but in Andrew Velker's case, his Karma paid off on Sunday night and was able to attend the Atlanta after show party following the best live show he's ever seen.

"Five friends and I arrived in Lakewood around 2 PM, 6 hours before the show, just to see if we could get a glimpse or get inside somehow," explained Andrew. "In the time of us sitting there," he added, "an older lady came up to us ask for some help." She had painted a picture of Trent Reznor for his 35th birthday and needed some extra muscle to get it to Trent. "So we went over to her car and got the painting, which the thing weighed an astonishing 50 lbs!"

Andrew and his friends got the idea to some how bring this large painting down to the buses and give it to Trent personally, but the guards (of course) wouldn't let them down there without a pass. "So the lady was mad," added Andrew, "which she began to ask all these stupid questions and in her disappointment left." Within an hour, a roadie and a tour manager, named Lynn, came over to Andrew and his friends to ask some questions about the artist and where they could locate her, because Lynn wanted the painting. "We didn't know where she was," commented Andrew, "and we told her if we found her that we would bring the painting to her."

While waiting anxiously, looking for the woman, A Perfect Circle came on and they had yet to find the woman who painted the structure, but luckily she found them, which she then asked again to help. "So we took the painting over to an access area with a guard," explained Andrew, "and again they gave us a lot of crap. So the older lady, drugged out of her mind, started cussing and screaming." In result, she got thrown out along with her painting.

So Andrew and his friends, trying not to make more of a scene, went back to their seats to finish watching A Perfect Circle. "When their set was over," added Andrew, "we went to get something to drink, and my other friends went someplace else." While Andrew and his best friend Hans walked about, Hans caught a glimpse of Lynn and quickly dashed over to her to explain the whole disgruntled lady situation with Andrew. "So Hans told her how much we wanted to meet Trent and the band," explained Andrew, "which she said, 'here... this is all I can give you,' and pulled out 2 after show passes!" Andrew, so happy and excited, Nine Inch Nails came on, "and needless to say," he said, "it was amazing and beautiful," but that was ONLY the beginning...

"Afterwards we went to the after show party and met up with the band," added Andrew, "that is all except Trent." Trent had busted his hand that night, during the concert and was tired. "So I talked to Danny Lohner and Charlie Clouser for a long time. They were so nice and chilled," explained Andrew.

Danny told him that they were most likely to tour again in the fall and they were probably come back to Atlanta. "Danny also told me that the remix of Complications of the Flesh," which is found on the Into The Void single, "was done completely on a Macintosh PowerBook. Charlie said that he just got done with some remix work for the upcoming Starfuckers single, and some various other remixes." Charlie also said, on a side note, that his studio used to be an embalming room!

"Jerome was really quiet and collected," said Andrew, "but I managed to say hey and tell him good job, but that was about it, and the same with Robin." Andrew also talked to Rob Sheridan (nin.com webmaster) and he said to watch nin.com the day after the Dallas show (which the Dallas show is today for those who lost track) for some really big surprises. "All in all," added Andrew, "it was really great, but no Trent, but Danny was nice enough to take my program back to Trent to get him to sign it." So they left with all the bands signatures, a new understanding, and a great experience.

99x FM Interviewed Trent & Maynard Live in Atlanta

We have good news for those who missed the LIVE Trent/Maynard interview on 99x-FM last Sunday before they both took stage at the Atlanta Lakewood Amphitheater. The radio station wrote us yesterday afternoon to confirm they are to archive the interview some time this or the following week.

An SLS viewer, who goes by SlaveScreams, caught the interview that night and although he said it wasn't a true earth shattering interview, which most hope to expect, Trent did refer to Courtney Love as "the most evil person" he knew. Trent also mentioned how the feud with Marilyn Manson came to an end. Trent said, "Manson called and said I'm sick of people asking if [Starfuckers, Inc] is about me...I have an idea for a video."

We plan to link a real audio address to the download, once it has been encoded and uploaded. Stay tuned for more details...

Possible Pro Tools Interview with Nine Inch Nails on Digidesign Page

Dave, an SLS viewer, went to www.digidesign.com yesterday to check his forum posts, since he is a pro tools user, and couldn't help but notive the new intro page. "It listed a bunch of bands including NIN and Filter and said their stories are on the site." Although they list Filter and their producer talking about their MIX plus system such as, all the plugins they use, NIN is no where to be found. Perhaps they haven't posted it yet. Keep the look out...

Klaus, an SLS viewer, recently picked up the new Norwigian Black Metal complication "Moonfog 2000" with new and old tracks from some of the best act's on Moonfog [Black Metalers Satyricon's label].

"There is a track by the Project band Eibon with Phil Anselmo [Pantera] On vocals, Satyr [Satyricon] on guitar and Fenriz [Darkthrone] on drums," said Klaus. "The funky thing is that the track is recorded at Nothing Studios and that the credits say, 'Thanks to Robin Finck, for letting us record i your studio.'"

A Perfect Circle Webchat NIN Answers - Part One

Last night was the A Perfect Circle web chat, which Maynard and Billy Howerdel took questions from fans about the new record, touring with Nine Inch Nails, the upcoming Tool album and more.

Djarum, an SLS viewer, attended the chat yesterday afternoon and had both his NIN related questions answered. "I asked about the APC remixes that were talked about earlier in the week," said Djarum, "and there was a nice response from the guys about it with them. They said the track was Judith and he won't be working on it at the moment cus his g/f is in town." Please read our May 19th headline "Corpis Christi Online Newspaper Interview with Danny Lohner - NIN Remix A Perfect Circle" for more info about this remix by Nine Inch Nails.

His second question was about the prank Maynard pulled on Trent Reznor earlier this month before the Interfax interview on the French music channel Musique Plus, which Maynard gave some insight we never heard about. Please read our May 4th "Real Audio Interfax Trent/Maynard Prank" or our May 3rd "Interfax Plays Joke on Trent Reznor with the Help of Maynard" headlines for further info about the pranks.

We hope to have further information about the nin related topics, the transcript and more...

VH1 - Video Killed The Radio Star: Manson & NIN Video Director Interviews

On VH1 this afternoon, there was a special about music videos, called Video Killed The Radio Star. "I caught part of it," said an SLS viewer named Sleepy, "and found it interesting."

There was breif 2-minute tid bit on Marilyn Manson's videos, showing clips of "Long Hard Road Out of Hell", "The Beautiful People", and "The Dope Show". The program also showed comments from the directors of Long Hard Road Out of Hell and The Beautiful People, the former director said Manson's request had been to make him "stunningly beautiful". About "The Beautiful People", the narrator said something about "making something so ugly look so beautiful". Further, during a clip about Mark Romanek, they showed clips of "The Perfect Drug" and "Closer", among a sea of Madonna videos.

Charlie Clouser in Studio with Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg has been working with some musician outside of the rap world for a side project. He has spent some time in the studio with drummers Tommy Lee (ex-Motley Crue) and Chris Vrenna (ex-NIN), but has also solicited the talents of Charlie Clouser, Critter (NIN, Marilyn Manson, Ministry, Guns n' Roses) and guitarist Johnny Jetson (Space Age Playboys). It was apparently Tommy Lee who suggested Charlie for the gig. Snoop Dogg's side project is said to be "heavier than the "other" Snoop stuff". No track has been released yet.

Unreleased NIN and Remixed Fragile Tracks Release Info!!

George, an SLS viewer, who attended the May 14th Nine Inch Nails concert in Charlotte, NC, brought back an awesome back stage story for us NIN fans to expect next month!

"Before the show," he said, "me and three friends were just walking around the yard when three guys walked by. I took a double take and was like, 'that's fucking Trent Reznor.'" So he took off running up the hill, while he left his friends behind puzzled. "As I tailed them for a few seconds," he added, "a big guy stopped me and said, "Apparently you're the only one that knows what's going on here. Trent likes to come out and relax before the show. Your welcome to go sit down and talk to him, but don't make a big deal or tell anyone." So George and his gang walked up there and sure enough Trent Reznor, Keith Hillebrandt, and the nin.com webmaster where just sitting there.

"They where all dressed like fans, Trent wearing a bandana and horned rimmed glasses," he said, "but any real fan could tell it was him." So they talked for a bit, and Trent said, "here is 3 backstage passes. Come party with us after the show."

"After the show," he added, "we all hung out back stage for three hours and everyone was super cool. Charlie and I talked about Atari Teenage Riot, but mainly Keith and I talked about the unreleased and remixed Fragile tracks that are coming out next month." So keep a look in June or stay tuned to SLS News!! We hope to have lots more related info as the news continues...

Corpis Christi Online Newspaper Interview with Danny Lohner - NIN Remix A Perfect Circle

Newspaper Corpus Christi Caller-Times, the news source of Corpus Christi, the Coasta Bend, and south Texas took a phone interview early Thursday morning with nine inch nails' bassist Danny Lohner, which also happens to be his hometown. Lohner, who contributed much of his talent to The Fragile and makes a big part of the live effect work, can catch up on his latest additions in this new interview.

Caller-Times media critic Ricardo Baca, who interviewed him yesterday, briefly talks about Lohner's High School and College years. Not only about his school life, but how Lohner met up with Trent Reznor and former nine inch nails' drummer Chris Vrenna when they were in search for a new live guitarist.

"When they were working on 'The Downward Spiral,' we were talking and the guitar player at the time went on to start his own band, Filter - yeah, Richard (Patrick)," Lohner said. "And they asked me if I wanted to play with them. I had made it to my final semester and had 12 hours left, but I went."
Lohner, who co-wrote "Somewhat Damaged" and "Even Deeper" with Reznor on "The Fragile," mentioned that there are three more songs that didn't make the cut that he hopes will be on the next album. Most likely the two EPs, we've been mentioning the past few months. In addition to the remix he and the band is working on for A Perfect Circle, which he mentioned early in the interview, he also recently recorded " Scum of the Earth" with Rob Zombie for the " Mission: Impossible 2" soundtrack, which you can take a listen to on CDnow.com.

Tom Morello of RAtM Speaks About Trent Reznor

The July issue of Guitar Player magazine, featuring Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine on the cover, is now hitting doorsteps and stands near you. Morello, who is the guitar play for RAtM, commented on Trent Reznor and The Fragile. This is what he had to say:

Q: who do you feel is doing creative work these days?

Tom: I really like the latest nine inch nails record--I think it's an achievement. it was done totally differently from how we record--it's very meticulous. i really respect how trent reznor works, because that kind of work ethic is just not there for us. we get a couple takes down and then it's off to the PlayStation!

Thanks a lot to: bob.

The Fort Worth Star Telegram NIN Article

The Fort Worth Star Telegram features a brief article about the upcoming Starplex Ampitheater date NIN plan to perform on in Dallas in yesterday's paper. It discusses the bands previous success and suggests that the reason that the Fragile has not done so well is because NIN fans have grown up gotten married and forgotten about NIN, but Loyd, an SLS viewer, wrote in today to say "not true" to this statement.

"I can say that this is not true, since I am 27 and married but still listen to NIN everyday." The paper also describes the Fragile is not listenable at times, which are hypocritical statements to say the least. "The writer does go on to say that the downward spiral tour was an excellent show and that more of the same is expected," explained Loyd. here on the official newspaper web site.

Nine Inch Nails & A Perfect Circle Featured In Latest Rolling Stone Magazine

The latest Rolling Stone magazine, #182 with MTV's Tom Green on the cover, is now hitting doorsteps this week, which includes many dedicated pages to NIN and A Perfect Circle. They review both A Perfect Circle's debut album and Nine Inch Nails' sold out UIC Pavilion performance in Chicago, IL and also feature a full page section dedicated to A Perfect Circle. Below is in brief about what you can find:

Greg Kot critiqued the NIN performance on April 21, 2000, which he gave NIN a positive review. Below is a blurb from his review:

"Nine Inch Nails still pound spikes of doom with the best of the aggro bands, but this night found Reznor exploring the more vulnerable side of his psyche as well. It was great theatre, with Reznor and company dressed like post apocalyptic marauders and bathed in dramatic white lighting, co-designed by Pink Floyd collaborator Mark Brickman."
It goes on to compliment all the members of the band for their playing excellence. The review is about half a page long. They also have a section with fan reviews of the concert. Everyone said it was an awesome performance.

On the next page after the review is a full page devoted to A Perfect Circle. It explains a lot the already known about them, and gives background info of everyone in the band. They also get a good story about NIN from Billy Howerdel.

"One night on the Downward Spiral tour, Trent comes back to get his guitar, and he's lying on the ground a bloody mess," he recalls. "He had just cut the shit out of himself jumping on a keyboard that exploded on him, basically. A screen was about the rise, and I knew the count, and I'm going, 'All right, you've got 40 seconds. Thirty. Come on fucker, let's go. You want me to play the part or what? And in a grasp for air, he just says 'Yes'. So I got up and played, and when the vocals came in, Trent pulled me into the spotlight and I was singing the choruses with him. And while he was singing 'Hate me, fuck me, kill me,' out of the corner of my eye I could see him grinnging at me."..."That was an interesting night".
He also mentioned that he would have to fix Trent's Les Paul guitars every night because they would be smashed every concert. In the article, they also ask Maynard's Influences, and some random questions to Billy.

Later on featured in the album review section of Rolling Stone, A Perfect Circle got an average review of their album, Mer De Noms. They got 2 1/2 stars out of 5.

"The songs rise and fall like a dusty curtain in a high school auditorium".
Rolling Stone's argument against the album was the songs should not have been cut in length. But what does Rolling Stone know about rating albums...In the same issue Britney Spears latest album got 3 1/2 stars.

Thanks a lot to: Ben, ian.

Alan Moulder Said To Be In Works with VAST Too?

According to an unofficial VAST website, not only is Chris Vrenna using his remixing skills for the upcoming album for VAST, but Alan Moulder, who produced The Fragile with Trent Reznor, has been in works with them as well! VAST gained attention with the song "Touched" on its 1998 debut EP Visual Audio Sensory Theater which was also featured in the movie The Beach.

Lollipop Magazine Reviews The Fragile

Featured in issue #50, on page 18, is a full-page review of the Fragile by Lex Marburger. Lollipop magazine releases 4 issues per year; this is their winter "millennial" release. You can find their website at www.lollipop.com. Although there isn't anything really interesting, but a slightly different tone than we're used to, it's worth the few minutes it took to read. He describes La Mer as Windham Hill meets King Crimson in a dive bar.

Thanks a lot to: Gary Chilson.

Washington Post Reviews Merriweather Post Pavilion NIN Performance

The Washington Post reviewed the May 12th, Merriweather Post Pavilion in their Monday, May 14th edition, which you can read here: Counting On the Decibel System

The review is positive, although it comments that "Drummer Jerome Dillon and guitarist Robin Finck stood out with their manic contributions, while keyboard players Danny Lohner and Charlie Clouser seemed less able, or willing, to push the music forward."

The article in the actual paper is accompanied by one of nothing records' file photos, a frequently used one in which Trent, wearing headphones, screams into a microphone with his fist clenched.

Chris Vrenna Remixes VAST

Despite the delay of Chris Vrenna's debut album, he has been keeping busy lately and Allstarmag.com has a tidbit about his latest work, which is to remix for the new Visual Audio Sensory Theatre (VAST) album.

"Former Nine Inch Nails drummer/programmer Chris Vrenna is currently in the studio providing his additional production and remixing skills to upcoming album for VAST. Jerome Dillon Speaks To Launch.com about Trent & Manson Reconciliation

Not only did Nine Inch Nails' drummer Jerome Dillon chat with Launch.com about the unfortunate Nassua Coliseum venue cancellation (Please read our May 13th headline "NIN Drummer, Jerome Dillon, Speaks to Launch Online about Nassau Coliseum Cancellation" for more info), but also about how Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson buried the hatchet, which was all thanks to a phone call by Manson, according to Launch Online.

"The idea was with the reconciliation and the amount of things that have been in the press between Trent and Manson," Dillon said. "The idea was basically he called Trent up weeks ago, and said 'I've got an idea for the 'Starf-kers' video. I want to direct it and I want to be in it. Please hear me out. I know this sounds completely crazy,' whatever. And they hadn't talked in quite a while, and the only communication was in the press where they were basically sh*t-canning each other. The end of that was the end of that. They're not the best of friends now, but everything is cool and it was just a blast."

Stage Diver Tells His Story At NIN's Madison Square Garden Performance

Those who attended the Madison Square Garden show last week (may 9), now known as the greatest show on earth, might have noticed a fellow NIN fan take a massive stage dive strait into the pit. The charachter who had the kahunas to pull such a stunt off, wrote us the day after the gig to explain how he got backstage, and onto the stage just before taking out a fan on his way down. This is what he had to say:

I managed to get into the after show last night without a pass on, and the way that it happened was pretty fuckin funny. I was very drunk, drinking 6-dollar beers all night, and frequenting the bathroom designated for the GA area which just so happened to be RIGHT NEXT TO the door where APC was having their private after show party following their set. There was a guard there for a while, but Billy from APC came out and said hi, and I happened to catch Maynard's attention for about 2 seconds, and let me tell you folks, IT IS A WIG......

Anyway, during NIN, I went to use the bathroom, and no one was watching the door anymore, so I went into it. It was a large space with empty beer bottles and a few people left behind talking and collecting the rest of the APC posters that were up. No one bothered me so I decided that I might attempt to watch the show from the stage. Before I know it I am right behind the fuckin stage, and the stairs are right in front of me. There were about 3 or 4 tech's back there running around and I figured that they would ask me sooner or later what I was doing there, so I just fuckin ran on stage, stood there for like 2 seconds, then I just ran out in between Trent and Robin and dove off. I couldn't believe how easy it was, and I wanted to do it again.

Upon my second try, I was tackled to the floor. I was treated like a piece of meat until these 5 big assholes who kept telling me YOU'RE GOING TO JAIL, decided to sit me down on the floor in their "headquarters". From there they are all explaining to me that I broke some girls nose when I jumped off stage and telling me I was going to be sued and this and that. I gave them my fake ID and pleaded with them not to throw me out of the show and my plan worked. I guess I looked sad enough and they thought that was all the punishment I needed, so they threw me to the curb. It didn't take me long to get back around to the front and pick up my other ticket on the guest list that I hadn't picked up prior to the show, and get back in. Just as I do, starfuckers begins, and we all know what happens for the rest of the show..... but I'm an asshole and I go back after the set ends and tried to walk through the doors again, I figure, what do I have to lose...... once I get back there, all the fuckers that kicked me out see me and are all confused, and one guy starts laughing and says, "YOU ARE TOO MUCH", and by then they all know my first, last, AND middle name, and they are yelling at me like my mother did when I was 6. I entertained them for a few seconds, and some how these dumb asses didn't see me walk into the after show holding area! No one bothered to look for my pass, and I just sat there and waited. Everyone waited for about an hour and finally Robin came out and talked to like 3 people, including myself who thanked him for the excellent performance. He then declared that only family members were allowed back. 15 or 20 people followed him and then everyone else was kicked out.

Anyone who wants to write him can do so with this email address: FuXleep@aol.com.

Speaking of the MSG performance, check out the nice review given by VH1, sent in by Steven. The review also features a poll of the show, which so far, is going well at an average of 4 stars.

Random Nothing News

Marilyn Manson was the topic of last week's Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Actor, Charlie Sheen, was the first guest, which he told a story about his flight out to LA with Manson. "He said that lightning hit the plane and jay said Manson caused it," explained Neil, who watched the show. "The pilot told them that everything was fine, but the stewardess said he was lying. so Charlie sheen was worried whether, in the event the plane crashed, he or Manson would get the bigger celebrity coverage for their deaths."

Marilyn Manson is referenced on the new Eminem CD on track "The Way I Am." The lyrics are as followed: "with the bull shit they pull, cuz they foolin shit too, when a dudes gettin bullied and shoots up his school, and they blame it on Marilyn and the herion, where were the parents at."

Om1cron, an SLS viewer, wrote us about a funny little commercial he saw for the Drew Cary Show. "I hate watching TV, but I walked upstairs as my bro was watching pokemon, and a Drew Carey Show commercial came on. Piggy by NIN was playing in the background, and Mimi was saying pig everytime Trent did. It was hilarious!"
Myles, an SLS viewer, also happened to hear NIN on the tube.

"I was looking at the Dallas-Colorado hockey game," he explained, "when all of a sudden, during the 3rd period, I heard Head Like a Hole! It played for about 20 seconds before they dropped the puck." Also during today's Pittsburgh-Philadelphia game, he heard another nine inch nails song during the second period.

Featured in the latest issue of STUFF magazine, is an article titled "s=ex2" about scientific studies on sex, which they mention Nine Inch Nails. In hypothesis #5 MUSIC WITH A POUNDING BEAT AROUSES WOMEN they give the scientific studies findings and then test these findings themselves. They test the theory by going to a club and asking 20 girls which music would help guys score with them. In the article they say, "even nine inch nails can get a woman to that special place". "The first time I made out with my boyfriend, 'CLOSER' came on," says Dara, 23. "The words 'I want to fuck you like an animal' have never been so sweetly seductive."

NIN Drummer, Jerome Dillon, Speaks to Launch Online about Nassau Coliseum Cancellation

Apparently there was much more to the canceled Nassau Coliseum venue on Wednesday night than Trent's swollen vocal cords! Nine Inch Nails' drummer Jerome Dillon told Launch online there was also a medical emergency. Below is a snippet from the article:

So what went down? "Well, a few different things, actually," he said. "Mainly there was a medical emergency that I'm not at liberty to talk about right now. With the nature of our stage show being the way that it is, members of the band kind of take their life in their hands at points during the course of the tour. We had an injury at Madison Square [Garden] the other night that we didn't think was that serious. And we got off stage and we got back to the hotel and everybody was a little concerned," he added. "But that compounded with the fact that basically Trent blew his voice out at Madison Square Garden the night before -- those two things compounded each other and wouldn't have made for a very good show at Nassau," he said. When asked if everything was OK now with the situation, Dillon remained cryptic, "Everything's cool and we're going to continue. We always find a way to continue." Calls to Nothing's representatives to find out the complete nature of the injury were not returned at press time.

Trent Reznor's Nothing Studios To Go Commercial

New Orleans most advanced studio facility, Nothing Studios, which was intended from the start as a private studio for Trent Reznor, to go commercial with the help of Brian Pollack. This article was featured on the April 22nd issue of Billboard magazine, but not featured on Billboard Online.

Below is a snippet from the two-page article:

Pollack was working as an assistant engineer at Record Plant studios, where he met Reznor during the sessions for "Downward Spiral." Five years ago, Reznor invited him to manage the private studio. Now his mandate is take the facility to the commercial level, and while he realizes that it's a transition that other high-end personal studios have undergone in the past, it's still on with few templates for guidance.

"One of the issues here is that this studio was designed for how Trent likes to work," Pollack explains. "Instead of the mike [preamps] being normalled to certain [console] in puts, the synths are. That's perfect for Trent, but that's not how it's done at most for-hire facilities."

Nassua Coliseum Ticket Refunds, Manson/Reznor MTV Interview

With the unfortunate cancellation yesterday to New York's Nassua Coliseum gig, because of swollen vocal chords and vocal strain on Trent Reznor. Nothing Records issued a press release to say that ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.

MTV News held a news segment yesterday about the recent rise of celebrity bashing in the music industry. There specifically focused on Nine Inch Nail's Starsuckers and Eminem.

In the segment there was a small Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson Interview about why they chose to bash the people they did in the video Starsuckers Inc. Reznor commented on Michel Stipe, Billy Corgan, and of course his favorite Mr. "I'm the Vice President of Interscope" Fred Durst, in which he said, "Look, I'm not going to say Limp Bizkit sucks. You know it...I know it.... I'm not going to say it."

"They seemed very casual in the interview and didn't seem to be taking any thing to serious," explained SLS viewer XIdiom, who watched the show.

Also, they mentioned that Marilyn Manson said his new album, "Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death)," that he is currently working on in the studio, is going to be "mean spirited." It is slated for release this Fall on Trent Reznor's nothing records label.

You can read the entire transcript, Zara, an SLS viewer transcribed for SLS News here or you can watch the interview in real video on MTV.com. MTV News also featured an article about this online.

Moby Comments About Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails

In the latest Spin Magazine, with Moby on the cover, Trent Reznor is briefly mentioned. Although it's a bit brief, Moby mentions him among others in his cover story on page 104 about todays music.

He says, "I think some of the alt-rock heroes-Trent Reznor, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins-got used to the music scene existing in a certain way and assumed that large numbers of people would buy whatever they put out. Artists forget that for every record that gets pupular attention, about a million records get ignored."

NIN Pre Performance Music: Recoil - Now Available Through Weathermen Records

Weathermen Records have had quite a few requests lately for the music played prior to Nine Inch Nails entering the stage during the Fragility v2.0 tour, so they decided to add the music to their CD assortment.

Before NIN comes out to perform the music you hear played at the NIN performance is by a band called RECOIL, which the album is called "Liquid". It is the project of Alan Wilder formally of Depeche Mode.

Brian May Talks About Robin Finck Working With Axl Rose

This is an excerpt from Brian May's appearance on the Radio 1 Rock Show (Wed 10 May). He was with presenter, Mary Anne Hobbs, for an hour and, below, is a transcription of the part where he spoke about working with Axl and Robin Finck's guitar parts.

MAH: Speaking of good singers, we've heard a lot of rumours about the fact that you've been doing some recording with Axl Rose. And, in fact, many of the listeners have sent e-mails in saying you must ask Brian what's he been doing with Axl. What's the score?

BM: Okay, well, I have a lot of history with those guys, as you know, because, well, I was on tour with them for a while. My own band supported them, which was great fun. They also did the Freddie tribute with us and I think I regard them as great friends, Axl in particular. And they just said come over and do some stuff. It's a long story, to be honest, and I won't bore you with all the details. But Axl was feeling that he was in a difficult place because the guitarist (Robin Finck) he'd been working with on this new album had, sort of, replaced Slash, because they fell out, sadly. I think that is sad actually because they're both brilliant talents and great with each other. But the guitarist that'd done most of the tracks had departed and Axl had a real emotional attachment to what he'd done, and yet he didn't want him on the album, I hope I'm not saying too much here, he didn't really want him to stay on the album because he'd disappeared, you know. So, he's sort of feeling a kind of divided loyalty and he said, 'Brian can you come and do stuff which I will like and I won't feel too bad about ditching this other stuff?'. So I did. I went over there and I think I played on three tracks and messed around on various other things. But it worked out pretty well, as far as I can tell. And it's very strange 'cause most of the Guns N' Roses people are not there 'cause Axl's sacked 'em all. So you're talking about Axl and the 'new' Guns N' Roses but, boy, is there a lot of energy there and his singing is outrageous. There's some great tracks on it.

Thanks a lot to: Leavehope.

Starfuckers, Inc Duet With Trent Reznor & Marilyn Manson, Live Video Clip Online

The sold out Madison Square Garden gig came with much surprise last night, when none other than Marilyn Manson arrived on stage to finish Starfuckers, Inc with Trent Reznor. Fans, who attended the Nine Inch Nails gig last night, explained that it was their best concert ever...

Manson, who sported long black hair, black leather pants and a black unbuttoned shirt walked on stage during the Carly Simon mid-verse, "I bet you think this song is about you... don't you, don't you...," which Trent trails off softly as Manson finishes the song with Trent and the band.

When they finished, Nine Inch Nails blasted into "The Beautiful People," with Manson as vocals, of course, while Trent played guitar and sang back-up vocals. Manson then exits while Nine Inch Nails close the night with "Hurt".

For those who would like to check this onstage reunion out for yourself, the official Nine Inch Nails website updated their "VIDEO" section of the site, with a high quality video download (quicktime/4.5 megs) of them together singing this unforgettable performance! On the right is a blown up photo snagged from the 2 minute video download.

Below are a few random reviews about the Manson appearance and performance:

  • .... Halfway into the set, NIN played Starfuckers, Inc., which Trent preceded with, "this is a song about a friend of mine." halfway through the song, after the "I bet you think this song is about you," Marilyn Manson came out and sang the rest of Starfuckers with Trent on guitar!!! It was fucking amazing! Then they went into "The Beautiful People." The crowd loved it. They concluded with "Hurt" as usual, a perfect conclusion to the intense experience and the best part is: I'm doing it all again tomorrow night in Long Island!! Written by: Alex.

  • ...The concert was fantastic, but the juicy news deal is how Marilyn Manson appeared on stage during Starfuckers, Inc... He came right after the Carly Simon lyrics (Right before it gets hard again). He and Trent finished the song, and then went on to play "The Beautiful People". Friggin awesome... Had the entire crowd go "Holy SHIT!" in unison. Written by: Jim Clark (Freak).

  • ... NIN was playing Starfuckers, and they got to the part when Trent goes, "Don't you.... don't you...don't you......" He kind of trailed off and there was immense cheering from the crowd. Then someone emerged from the smoke - this thin, pale, scrawny, scary freak; none other than Marilyn Manson. The two of them finished the song together with Manson screaming "I'M ONE OF THE BEAUTIFUL ONES!". After that, NIN played backup for Manson for "The Beautiful People". The crowd went fucking nuts. It was amazing to see the two of them back in action. Written by: Zen.

  • .... As they began to play Starfuckers, Inc., he told the audience it was dedicated to "a friend ". At the end of the song, surprise, surprise, Marilyn Manson comes out and sings the last part of the song! Everyone went completely crazy. The next song...The Beautiful People. This was the highlight of the night. Awesome stuff! They ended the night with an excellent performance of "Hurt" and the show ended. This will forever be stuck in my memory as one of the greatest concerts I have ever and will ever attend. Also a special concert because of the appearance by Marilyn Manson. Written by: Billy Ferraro.

New Info About The Two New NIN EPs and Starsuckers, Inc Video

Jim, an SLS viewer, had the good fortune to chat with Danny Lohner at the Philly show on Saturday, May 6th while waiting outside with some friends.

"Danny was kind enough to sign my downward spiral CD booklet and talk to me for almost ten minutes about the band," said Jim. "The next two releases are going to be domestically released he said, so none of this import crap." Danny is most likely referring to the two EPs Trent Reznor told Scott, an SLS viewer, who spoke with him on April 18th at the Milwaukee gig. (For more information please read our April 21st headline "Two Nine Inch Nails EPs, NIN to Tour This Fall, Tapeworm Possibly End of the Year.")

Danny confirmed a lot of what's been said recently about the unreleased Fragile material completed and Trent just trying to figure out what to do with it. "Interestingly enough," Jim said, "the Starsuckers video had footage of the whole band playing but the director cut them out! Danny seemed kind of annoyed by this, but in a good natured way." Jim wasn't entirely sure if Danny was in the Perfect Drug video or not so he asked, which Danny said, "Don't blink."

"I told him I thought the new video was great but because I hate MTV so much I wasn't going to vote for the stupid Total Rejects Live," explained Jim. Danny grimaced a bit at this and just said, "We gotta sell some records man." Before Danny left, he praised A Perfect Circle and 45 minutes later Jim saw what he meant. "They were great and NIN was fantastic," said Jim.

Contra Costa Times Hosts the Boston Globe Napster Article f/ Trent Reznor

Although we posted the excerpt Trent Reznor made about Napster to the Boston Globe on May 5th. (Please read our headline "Trent Reznor Speaks Up About Napster to the Boston Globe" for more information.) The official website for the Boston Globe never featured the article online, but yesterday's edition of the Contra Costa Times, in their Timeout Entertainment section, features the entire article by Steve Morse.

Among the article, just like we mentioned before, it recaps most of the Napster bashing that's been going on in the press lately, but features comments made from Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses, singer Don Henley, J.C. Chasez of 'N Sync and many others.

Check out the Boston Glove article here: Battle lines being drawn in dispute over Napster.

Thanks a lot to: kristi falkowski.

Nothing Bands Featured on Sundance Channel Documentary

Featured on the Sundance Channel yesterday was a documentary about techno music. Already in progress, Neil, missed a bit about the documentary, but watched enough about it to know what the topic was about: traces techno music and how it has evolved. "It defines each genre (jungle, house, acid, drum and bass, etc.)," said Neil. "They interviewed almost every important artist as well, including Alec Empire, Kraftwerk, Brain Eno, Orbital, Prodigy, and nothing bands, Autechre, Squarepusher, and Meat Beat Manifesto." Featured also in an interview was Bill Laswell and other remixers like Sasha, Armand Van Helden, and DJ Spooky.

In related news, Neil is the guy featured in the providence fan video section of the official Nine Inch Nails website proposing to his girlfriend. =)

Possible Tune in Time for K-ROCK Trent Reznor Interview

If you haven't forgotten, the K-ROCK interview with Trent Reznor is still on for Thursday, May 11th. The last interview K-ROCK had with Trent Reznor was held at 4PM. So I would imagine they would hold it at the same time. The official K-ROCK website has yet to advertise or post times for this event. We'll keep a look out if the time changes. Please read our May 6th headline "Trent Reznor Interview on KROCK Radio Next Week" for more info.

A Perfect Circle Chat - Live Conan O'Brien Gig

A Perfect Circle has a day off on May 21st. On that night, there will be a live Internet video chat with the band, hosted by Jess Redmon in Atlanta, GA. Fans will be able to submit questions to the band (the chat will be in text and audio/video.) Some of the fan based questions may be about Nine Inch Nails or Tapeworm so it might be a good idea to attend, which will be hosted on the Virgin Records site and will begin at 6:00pm (EST) on 5/21/2000. Prior to the main chat, 5 randomly selected members of the E-Street team will get a private chat with the band.

The official a Perfect Circle website says that they are scheduled to appear on the Conan O'Brien Show Tuesday, May 16, 2000. Other featured guests will include Jane Leeves of Fraizer. Charlie Sheen was to attend, but due to conflicts in scheduling, he won't be appearing.

Eurockeennes Poster

On the right is the poster for the very popular three day French Festival called the Eurockeennes, which Nine Inch Nails plan to headline on July 7th in Belfort, France. Among NIN are the Counting Crows, Alanis Morissette, Slayer, Cranberries, Moby, Eurhythmies and many more.

Random Nothing News

The webmaster for the FDA website, who hosts the edited Danny Lohner and Trent Reznor worn FDA shirts, was spotted earlier this week advertising to fellow NIN fans.

SLS viewer Sultanik, attended the Saturday, May 6th gig in Philadelphia and noticed Tom Fulp (a Philadelphia native who made/maintains www.newgrounds.com and www.fdaallday.com) was standing outside in a FDA T-shirt handing out free FDA stickers to his fellow NINnies.

While doing webpage development research, Colette hopped over to www.websplit.com. One of the examples on their homepage for using a websplit was of Trent Reznor. The Trent example was from the mtv.com page, which promoted the yahoo chat back in January.

Forty Page Nine Inch Nails Fragility Tour Booklet

Among all the cool souvenirs, accessories, t-shirts that you can buy while waiting for Nine Inch Nails to hop on stage, is also an exclusive 13 inches by 9 inches, full color, forty page long Fragility tour book! "Every page is full of pictures," commented Donald, "most of them I've never seen before (at the stand it said the pictures were exclusive)." The photos exclusive to the official Nine Inch Nails website, snapped by the webmaster, also features written entries by Trent himself!

"He talks about rehearsing, and playing in Europe, Australia, and what nine inch nails is all about," explained Donald, the SLS viewer who couldn't help but purchase the book instantly. "There's also like four pages devoted to every band member, with new pictures and also each band member talking about what they contributed." Donald said, "it's interesting because you can kind of see the personalities of each person in the band." The coolest part for him, he said, was a whole section about the recording of the Fragile. "Alan Moulder," who produced and helped mixed the album, "wrote a lot of stuff about the day-to-day life and recording material with Trent."

Also featured in this die-hard fanatic collector's item is a huge collage of photos from around the Nothing Studios in New Orleans. "There are like old song orders and CD's for unreleased songs, such as Metal", the unreleased Gary Numan cover, "and a picture of Trent's dog, and also a long list of all the equipment, instruments and software they used to make the Fragile!" The back of the book has a list of everyone that worked on the tour and also a NIN discography of all the halos.

"Overall," he said, "it's really, really cool and well worth the fifteen bucks it costs, especially since to my knowledge it's the first official book NIN has ever put out." Although he said the book doesn't stand out to well at the merchandise booth, he believes a lot of people pass it by... So make sure you look out for it and to bring an extra $20 when you see NIN live, I know will...

On the right are a few scanned photos from the book. Although the scans aren't too impressive, it's just an idea of how in-depth the 40 page full-color booklet really is...

New Fragile Commercial

There's is a new Nine Inch Nails commerical in rotation on MTV, with the live version of Starfuckers, Inc, with new tour footage. Chris, an SLS viewer, thought it was a new commercial for the upcoming special on MTV2, but at the end it had a picture of the fragile cd and said "in stores now".

Trent Reznor/FDA Mockup

FDA is an online entity which records music about Fuckin' Dat Ass. "While these songs and videos are really pretty stupid," commented Timothy, "they have a page promoting an FDA t-shirt which has a bunch of fake photoshoped pictures of celebrities wearing the shirt. Trent Reznor and Danny Lohner are among those edited with FDA t-shirts; the FDA site is at www.fdaallday.com and the t-shirt promotion can be found here. The Trent Reznor photo looks a bit familiar, wouldn't you think? =)

Fragility v2.0 Tour Journal Complications

For the time being, the Fragiltiy v2.0 Tour Journal collaboration has temporarily gone off-line because it lacked the bandwidth to sustain its recently acquired jump in page views. While the tour journal may be down for a day or two, and the main website theFragile.com finally back online, we are still accepting reviews, photos, etc for the tour journal.

Random Nothing News

When introducing the "Starsuckers, Inc." video on 120 Minutes last night, the host mentioned that drummer Jerome Dillon had contributed a song to the soundtrack of John Waters' new film "Cecil B. DeMented." He also said Dillon wrote and played everything on the song himself.... For more information about this side project, please read our April 13th headline: Jerome Dillon Penned A Song For "Cecil B. Demented" Film.

Frank, an SLS viewer, who happens to nipick about things (grin), noticed that Chris Booker, the new MTV host, said that Starsuckers is the second video off the Fragile, while it is truly the third official video.

Fragility v2.0 Tour Coverage On MTV2 In Three Weeks

MTV2 has been airing the "Starsuckers, Inc." video throughout the weekend, and the following message was displayed several times at the bottom of the screen:

"Nine Inch Nails is taking over the airwaves... tune in for their live concert and behind the scenes footage throughout the weekend of 5/27... only on MTV2!"
At the moment we don't know of a time for the tour coverage, but we hope to learn of a time well before the scheduled date.

Thanks a lot to: Gary.

Matt Johnson Not Happy with Interscope?

It just so happens that Matt Johnson, frontman of The The, is in a similar boat with Trent Reznor! According to John, an SLS viewer, who attended the second The The concert in Chicago on May 5th, couldn't help but hear Matt speak to the audience about how he's not pleased with Interscope right now. This is what he had to said John:

He said something to the effect of, "Hey guys, have you noticed that The The has a new album out?" And of course the audience roared in the affirmative. And then he said something to the effect of, "Well, that's good, but it doesn't seem that Interscope records has even noticed." He then went on to say that he'd better drop the topic because he was in a good mood and didn't want to spoil it.

Weathermen Records Offer Import APC Single

Adrian Belew Mentions Trent Reznor In Jam! Chat

Good ol' JAM! has got the transcript of a chat interview with Adrian Belew in which Trent Rznor is mentioned towards the end. Nothing very new or earth shattering, although Adrian said he wants to work with Trent again, but below is just one more mention from the list of people who helped create the double disc album The Fragile.

JK: How did you like working with Trent Reznor and would you do it again?

Adrian Belew : I have worked with Trent twice now, and I would gladly do it again. Trent makes records in a different way from other people I work with. AS a recording artist/producer, it is fairly educational for me. He is a real supporter of what I attempt to do. He records everything in a complete loop, in PRO Tools at all times. I might record a song that is five minutes long, as 32 bars open for a guitar solo. His songs can be a half hour long. You are playing to a set of loops that are continual. There were times I played and played until I stopped. I'm sure they go back and find in that 30 minutes the couple of seconds they love.

Check out the entire chat transcript here.

Thanks a lot to: Qris.

Trent Reznor Interview on KROCK Radio Next Week

Booker, a DJ for the New York radio station KROCK, gave away tickets to a few upcoming NIN shows yesterday. One of the ticket giveaways happened to be the sold out May 9th gig at the Madison Square Garden venue. The DJ then mentioned that he is to interview Trent Reznor next Thursday, May 11th. Unfortunately, Booker failed to give a time when the interview takes place. More info on this as news surface....

NY Post Review Starsuckers, Inc Video

Not only is there a new interview in yesterday's New York Post, (Please read our yesterday headline "New York Post Interviewed Trent Reznor" for more info) but there's an article in the New Music Video Review Section with a bad pun of a title called "Nails Bite Themselves." You can't expect a positive review by media publications everywhere you turn, but this review basically went on to say that by "slamming glam," or being "superficial" in the way that Trent Reznor did through his video, that he has become exactly what he was mocking. The NY Post author, Kristina Feliciano, obviously has no idea what she was talking about, giving it only one star and was probably watching the video through Fred Durst's glasses.

"People who review music for newspaper articles should have a video made just for them," commented SLS viewer Ssiera. "That woman had NO IDEA what she was talking about and apparently wrote an article based on some catchy title she conjured up in her pathetic mind."

Trent Reznor Speaks Up About Napster to the Boston Globe

Trent is featured in an article in today's (May 5th) Boston Globe, "Napster strikes dissonant chords". It recaps most of the Napster bashing that's been going on in the press lately. Although this article is not found on the Boston Globe website (www.boston.com/globe), it currently can be read on the newspaper page D17 for anyone in the Boston area.

Below is Trent Reznor's comments about Napster:

But the bigger the act, the more likely it is to bash Napster.

"I create my music; it's mine," said Reznor of Nine Inch Nails in a recent telephone interview. "It's not your right to give it away or exchange it with your friends, just as it's not right to copy software or photocopy books to give away. It represents the artist's work. Just because a technology exists where you can duplicate something, that doesn't give you the right to steal.

"There's nothing wrong with giving some tracks away, or bits of stuff, that's fine. But its' not everybody's right," Reznor said. "Once I record something, it's not public domain to give it away freely. So I stand behind Dr. Dre and Metallica and support them. And that's not trying to be the outdated musician who is trying to stop technology. I love technology. Technology is here to stay and I'm the first one downloading the newest update to software that I don't need and that makes my machine not work."

As for Bizkit's Durst, Reznor blasted him by saying, "Durst is the brain trust of all that is wrong with music. He supports [Napster] because they gave him $2 million to tour. He forgot to mention that in his press release.

The paper also features a small photo of Trent in front of a window with blinds. Although this is fairly new photo of him this was also once the cover of Pulse! magazine.

Thanks a lot to: Victoria.

New York Post Interviewed Trent Reznor

Over on FoxNews.com, featured in the entertainment section, is a new interview with Trent Reznor from the New York Post. Trent breaks the ice about why he decided to end his feud with Marilyn Manson, comments about the Starsuckers, Inc. video and more... Below is a snippet from the interview about Marilyn Manson:

Post: Can Marilyn Manson's appearance in your video "Starsucker, Inc." be read to mean that you two have made amends?

Reznor: We have. There was a long chunk of time that we weren't each other's favorite people, but I have since realized he is very much like the brother I never had. The feeling is mutual.

Post: What happened between you two?

Reznor: You sprinkle a little fame on two stubborn people in close quarters, and they both think they know what is right and wrong, and there's going to be a fight. We both did some growing up.

Post: Did you write "Starsucker, Inc." about him?

Reznor: The song is about the concept of celebrity and the ridiculousness of it. And of course, Manson was also an inspiration for that.

Post: How did you patch things up?

Reznor: I heard rumbling from mutual friends that he felt the fight had gone on long enough, and I felt that way, too.

Follow this link to the interview on Fox News: Nine Inch Nails' New Spin or read it on the official New York Post website: Upward Spiral. The interview is the same on both sites.

Matt Johnson of The The Speaks Up About Napster

Anyone who has been following Napster, which allows users to search a huge online database of shared mp3 songs, here's a large quote from Matt Johnson of The The, with his personal opinion about the subject. The following quote appears on the Recording Industry Association of America's webpage: www.riaa.com.

Many artists have spent their lives honing their craft and now some anonymous person in a little dark room with a computer somewhere is able to collate that lifetime's work and pass it around the world for free. It's just not on. Stealing is stealing regardless of what name you choose to call it. You get people saying "I've been a fan of yours for twenty years, I'm entitled to have it for free." Well I'm afraid you're not. That's no different to me than going down to the local greengrocers and saying "well, I've been coming here for twenty years and so I'm going to help myself to all your fruit and vegetables from now on thanks very much."
-- Matt Johnson of The The

Marilyn Manson Signs Godhead to Posthuman Records

The official Marilyn Manson news website has officially announced that Godhead, my local Washington, DC act, has been signed to Manson's new label, Posthuman Records, distributed by Priority Records. Below is their update:

Putting rampant speculation to bed, MARILYN MANSON has signed godhead from Washington, DC, to his new label, Posthuman Records, distributed by Priority Records (EMI). Currently, godhead is gearing up to go into the studio with producer Danny Saber with plans to release an album later this year.

UK NIN Single by the Summer

In an article about Nine Inch Nails appearing on two UK gigs this summer (June 23rd, July 1st) over on NME.com, is a brief paragraph about a possible alternative single to "Starfuckers, Inc." to be released this summer in the UK.

A UK spokesperson for Nine Inch Nails said there were no plans to release the track as a single in Britain, though a different single was likely to appear by the summer. It will be the second track to lifted from last autumn's 'The Fragile' album, following October's 'We're In This Together'.
I guess they couldn't just say Into The Void now could they? To read their full report please click here: NINE INCH NAILS ROCK THE LONDON DOCK.

By the way, the July 1st gig is actually this year's version of The Big Day Out (which Marilyn Manson performed at last year), and is called "The Lost Weekend". As the name suggests it is actually a two-day event, with the second day (Sunday, July 2nd) features the following acts so far: Skunk Anansie, Machine Head and The Rollins Band. The event will feature various stalls, tattoo parlors and body piercing clinics. As well as the £23 one-day ticket price to see NIN, we originally mentioned on May 2nd (Please read our headline "NiN London Gig on 1st July - Full Details" for more info). Tickets for both days can be purchased for £35.

Thanks a lot to: Mr Pogo.

Real Audio Interfax Trent/Maynard Prank

We were given a real audio sample to the prank pulled on Trent Reznor by Maynard before the Interfax interview on the French music channel Musique Plus today. The beginning of the audio file is the interviewer talking to Maynard, which he is playing the role as a Nine Inch Nails fan. Maynard pretends to speak French and said to Trent quietly, "I'm Shy." Maynard then sits right beside him acting really anxious and takes another shot at his new found language Musique Plus had time to teach him and quickly said, "je pette le feux," which translates to "I Fart Fire." For more information about the joke, please read our May 3rd headline "Interfax Plays Joke on Trent Reznor with the Help of Maynard."

For those who would like to download the 2:20 [950k] audio file, please click here.

I'm still working on uploading the 20 still shots taken from the joke. Check back soon...

Thanks a lot to: Jeepee.

Toronto's Globe and Mail Interviews Trent Reznor

Featured in yesterday's "Globe and Mail" (a Canadian national paper) is article with Trent Reznor by Pete Nowak about today's music industry. It is another pretty decent article, which can be read online here. Below is a blurb from the interview, about Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit:

"I come out of this cocoon now into a climate where things have changed, and it hasn't in my opinion been for the better. Today, musicians are complimented much more on their business plan than their talent. When I see an idiot like Fred Durst [of Limp Bizkit] spouting off about, 'I'm in it for the money, buy my record, buy two copies of it, I'm going to be the best business man, I'm just doing this till I get into movies' -- [he should] sell dish-washing liquid or something. It's damaged music. I don't mean him personally, but this climate has created a very unhealthy situation to spawn new creative acts."

Thanks a lot to: Joel, Andrew.

Nine Inch Nails Denver Ticket Sales

Tickets are to go on sale this Saturday, May 6th, for the final Nine Inch Nails performance on June 18th at the Pepsi Center rather than scheduled last Saturday. They put the sale off a week, says Denver's Rocky Mountain News because tickets for the Metallica concert went on sale April 29th, which was the same day NIN tickets were to originally go on sale, but they didn't want to make fans choose. Go figure....

Interfax Plays Joke on Trent Reznor with the Help of Maynard

Aphx, an SLS viewer, happened to be watching a music news program called Interfax on the French music channel Musique Plus to see if they were to talk about the Sunday show. "They did a little," he said, "but they mostly showed us a little joke they did to Trent with the help of Maynard which was quite funny."

Before the interview with Trent, they disguised Maynard into a little nerdy fan, with glasses, a baseball cap, short and a disgusting yellow shirt. Starting the interview, the host said to Trent that a fan won some kind of contest to meet him. They then asked Trent if there was a problem with it, which he said no. "Maynard was so funny," said Aphx, "he really is an actor! He acted so stressed, and he looked so shy. You could hear Maynard grumbling some unintelligible speak (in French presumably),"Aphx commented. "Trent had a little smile all along, I think he was going to burst in laughs at the guy although he didn't knew it was Maynard yet," he said. Then the host started laughing. "Trent seemed to understand the little trick, added Aphx, "but was not sure." Then Maynard said, "fuck, you blew it!". Trent then started laughing so hard, "I've never could have imagined from a reserved guy like him," explained Aphx.

On the right is a screen shot taken from the joke, Musique Plus played on Trent. We have 20 more screen shots, which will be available here later this evening thanks to jeepee for submitting them!

Nine Inch Nails to Possibly Play the Summer Sonic 2000 Festival

Commy, webmaster of The Perfect Drug website, sends word from a famous Japanese music magazine called Rockin'On about an article concerning an up coming Japanese Summer rock festival. Mentioned only in the headline of the article, the rock magazine briefly names Nine Inch Nails as one of the many artists to perform this years "Summer Sonic 2000" festival in Japan.

Creativeman, who promoted "Fragility v1.0" in Japan last year, are also scheduled to hold the festival's 10 year anniversary. Commy believes since Creativeman promoted the Japan tour, they might have invited some artists, who they helped in the past, to perform this year's event. This may have lead to why Rockin'On magazine mentioned Nine Inch Nails.

Although the official website for Creativeman does not mention any hope for Nine Inch Nails, this may be only a rumor on the magazine's part. That festival will be held in Fuji (the far suburbs of Tokyo) and Osaka; each will perform for 2 days. The artists to perform in Fuji will then alternate to Osaka, etc. Commy will keep us informed as more information becomes available, but don't hold your breath.

- The Gazette (Montreal), May 1, 2000

" 'Starsuckers, Inc.' has clearly already taken a special place in NIN fans' hearts.  A panoramic glance of the Coliseum during this song revealed that the audience members who were not jumping up and down during the song could have been counted on the digits of a hand."

Video Debut of Starsuckers, Inc Tuesday

Our good friends over at the NIN Hotline have received word that the debut for the new Nine Inch Nails video "Starsuckers, Inc." will be on Tuesday, May 2nd on MTV's "Total Request Live." You can begin voting for the video over on the official Total Request Live website.

Astral, an SLS viewer, was on his way to the Buffalo, NY, NIN concert last night and happened to hear a Trent Reznor interview on Buffalo's 103.3 The Edge, which Trent mentioned a bit about the new NIN Video.

"The radio guy seemed kind of stupid," explained Astral, "but Trent answered all his questions." Although the majority of the questions Trent answered was said in past interviews, there were a couple of new things "When the guy asked Trent what he listened to," he explained, "Trent said that right now he listens to D'angelo, Q-tip, and always listens to Aphex Twin." When Trent was asked about Starfuckers, Inc. Trent said the video is probably coming out sometime next week and that the song is based on a few people he was close to, and how they were acting, and that once he started acting that same way he wrote the song"

Marilyn Manson might have referenced the new NIN video when he posted a message as an official over at the Nine Inch Nails BBS website on April 29th. "It's coming down fast so don't let it break you," said Manson. "Next week will change the world that we care about. Fuck the rest of the world."

During the Much Music interview last week, Trent was asked about Manson, which his response was that we will see what happens next week, "It should yield some interesting results."

Thanks a lot to: Saturninus, enoch111.

Trent Reznor Guest Appearance At The Edge Radio Station

Not only did Trent Reznor swing by MuchMusic on April 28th, but he also made a surprise appearance at The Edge 102.1 radio station and among the 150 or even more fans Haydn was able to squeeze right up front and snap some quality pictures! "The DJ pulled out an old record and CD from Trent's younger days and they had a good laugh about that," said Haydn.

On both sides are two photos taken by Haydn. Nice work! =)

The Boston Globe Interviewed Trent Reznor

Featured in the "Arts Etc." section of the Boston Globe (April 30th) is a new extensive interview with non other than Trent Reznor, where he spoke from a tour stop in Grand Rapids, Mich. Check out the online interview here: Trent Reznor hammers out his own turf. Below are a few blurbs from the interview:

''If the public likes what's on MTV and on the charts right now, then I don't want to appeal to those people,'' says Reznor. ''That's not the demographic that I care to ship units to. I want to appeal to people who demand and expect more.''

''We learned every song on the record and really could perform it, but there are a lot of songs in the same tempo range that wouldn't work in a live environment. I'm just trying to figure out how much to do, because I've also been a fan who goes to see shows and thinks of the band, `Oh, God, more stuff off the new album? I want to hear your old favorites.' So I try to make it a satisfying balance for all.''

Thanks a lot to: Ermac.

Buffalo News Interviewed Danny Lohner

Found in the Friday (April 28th) issue of Buffalo News is a semi interview Danny Lohner, chatting about Fragility v2.0, Trent Reznor and more... Below is a blurb from the interview:

"I've learned so much from Trent with technical knowledge and conceptual knowledge as to what makes a good song," says Lohner. "You forget how smart he is when he's just hanging out as a regular guy. But his knowledge is amazing. He's so well-versed in music and so well articulated that it's all second nature to him. Yet when he creates, it's more from the heart, like an untrained musician."
Check out the full interview here: Split personality.

Thanks a lot to: Sara.

Fragile Artwork Featured In Japanese Graphic Design & Art Magazine

Commy, over at The Perfect Drug website, is back with some information about a Japanese graphic design and art magazine called "IDEA." The magazine is said to feature Fragile cover art in their latest issue. Commy explained, "They give three pages for The Fragile, there are LP cover art work, a booklet of LP cover art work, and two notice postcard of The Fragile. One is dark brown one, another is right brown one."

The issue, which says, "the best art work of the world 2000," credits David Carson, who created the Fragile artwork, as designer, art director and photographer. And of course, the magazine credits Nine Inch Nails and The Fragile, but mistakenly credits the band as "Nailes". Oh well... it happens! =) "This magazine also featured Bjork's cover art work by Me Company from a music world," Commy explained.

In other news, Kaoru, who attended the NIN Madison, WI gig, wrote Commy to explain. "Inside the free weekly newspaper," said Commy, features a positive review of NIN's show with a photo of the Trent Reznor." Check it out online here on the official newspaper website.

Garbage Attends Nine Inch Nails Madison Performance

Lead singer, Shirley Manson, of Garbage, has been keeping an online diary on the official band website, which she mentioned attending the Nine Inch Nails Madison show:

April 22

Today we worked on a very strange little jam all afternoon and then trooped out to see NIN play at the Coliseum here in Madison. We popped backstage briefly before the show to say hi to Trent as he knew we were in town and besides.......... it's always good to pay your respects in person don't you think?!?!?!?! I felt a bit of a crass intruder as I stomped into his dressing room all red hair and lipstick but he was quite charming and didn't seem to mind a bit!!
Anyway....the show was fucking awesome. We all felt so inspired and rejuvenated afterwards! And the lights were so divine that I wanted to steal them all to hang on the ceiling of my bedroom.

An SLS viewer, who happens to go by the name Closure, attended the Madison show and happened to catch Butch Vig and Shirley Manson mingling with the fans. "They were both in the sound board area," he explained. "Shirley signed about a dozen autographs and Butch shook some hands."

Thanks a lot to: SF, Solipsismx.
