Appelbaum's Friends Speak Out

Here's a report from one of Appelbaum's friends concerning Trent's Accounts...

I KNOW this person. She used to go to the Industrial/Gothic chat room on Prodigy. she used the name AMBERREZNOR....... she used to tell people that she was engaged to Trent.. I remember her having his phone number and everything.. she would get on 3-ways with her friends (including me) to call trent reznor's voice mail and such. He had to change his number a few times.

She is definitely an obsessed fan.

The person who wrote me this story above, please write me back. Your email is not working. Thank you.

U.S. Techo-Industrial Base Eroding Due to Foreign Competion

This joke was found here which mentions NIN and other related bands.. but its just for a laugh.

WASHINGTON, DC--With first-quarter Club Rotation Index figures the lowest in seven years, and imports outselling domestic12-inches more than two-to-one, economic observers throughout the U.S. are sounding the alarm over the nation's rapidly declining techno-industrial base.

"America faces a grave moment of crisis," said DJ Nathan Brackett, Secretary of Industrial and Hardcore, in a recent speech before Congress. "Vinyl imports from both Europe and Japan are threatening our nation's once-great techno-industrial power base. Our Gross National Beats Per Minute is at its lowest point since 1991. The message is clear: We must fuck up the mix, or all is lost."

In its late-'80s/early-'90s heyday, America's techno-industrial complex seemed unstoppable. Led by such formidable powers as Nine Inch Nails and Ministry, the U.S. achieved near-total dominance of the global dance-mix marketplace. Even in the traditionally insular Eurodisco field, the loud, banging, clamorous sound of American-made techno strongly influenced such foreign industrial powers as Front 242 and KMFDM.

Less than a decade later, however, the glory days of the American techno-industrial complex seem far away. With over 20,000 former clubgoing elite out of work in the warehouse district of Chicago, and the Detroit house scene over $7 billion in debt, bitterness over the nation's eroding techno-industrial base can be felt throughout its once-thriving industrial centers.

And with the rise of such overseas dope on wax as drum 'n' bass, ambient and jungle, the problem, experts say, is not going to go away any time soon.

In fact, many fear that foreign competition from such heavy-hitting imports as England's Prodigy and Chemical Brothers, Germany's Atari Teenage Riot and Japan's DJ Krush--whose rare vinyl imports fetch up to $29.99 domestically, even for a remix track--will overtake America's floundering techno-industrial base by the year 2000.

Many, including NYC illbient's DJ Spooky, contend that fault lies in American industrial's inability to adapt to the changing realities of modern times.

"We must retool America's angry, metallic, hard-edged industrial mix to better reflect the mellowtronic, groovadelic peace memes of the emergent global cyber-age," he said.

California's DJ Shadow agreed. "We are being beaten at our own game. Trip-hop was invented here, but right now, the British are simply doing it better," he said. "America has got to seriously remix its priorities."

In the face of the foreign dance-floor dominance, President Clinton is urging Congress to pump money into the revitalization of the nation's techno-industrial infrastructure.

"It is not enough to say, 'We must drop bass.' It is not enough to say, 'We must rock the crazy beats,'" President Clinton said Monday in a secret live appearance at D.C.'s famed underground The 930 Club. "If American techno is to become the world's leader once again, we must drop much bass; we must rock mad, phat-ass, crazy beats; and we must do so quick-fast in a hurry, 24-7, 365. And I am out."

Many conservatives in Congress, however, oppose to such change. "U.S. techno-industrial is hardcore, and it must stay hardcore," said Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT). "Would Al Jourgensen wear a T-shirt depicting smiley aliens telepathing 'Love' to their baggy-pantsed children? Techno should be about hate, not love. Techno is about wearing black and screaming, not standing in one place and swaying peacefully. I say, bring back the days of Skinny Puppy."

"Techno? Industrial? I am not familiar with these strange terms," said Rolling Stone magazine's Jann Wenner, speaking from one of his boats. "I do understand, however, that something called 'electronica' is the Next Big Thing. It says so right on the cover of our latest issue."

Thanks to: bob.

I have lots more to report, but I only had time to report this... I'll have the rest of the news for today and the news for tomorrow's update... sorry about the delay today.... later.

Woman Caught Using Trent's Online Account

As of last night Trent was listed in the on-line edition of the New Orleans newspaper Times Picayune and listed on AOL boards....

Trent Reznor, leader of the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, alternative culture icon and Garden District resident, may want to stick to communicating the old-fashioned way.

A Georgia woman was booked this week with fraudulently accessing Reznor's account with America Online, the nation's largest commercial online service.

Amber Appelbaum, 22, obtained Reznor's secret password by calling the online service's billing department and claiming she was his wife, according to the arrest warrant application.

From there, Appelbaum used the secret password and Reznor's screen name, "MT Rez," to gain access to the Internet, the warrant says. Appelbaum was booked with computer fraud, access device fraud and making harassing phone calls to Reznor. She also allegedly charged nine long-distance phone calls to one of Reznor's credit cards, according to court papers.

A spokeswman for AOL said the company is cooperating with the New Orleans police investigation and could not comment on what the suspect told the AOL employee.

"This appears to be a case of an obsessive fan who committed fraud against AOL and Mr. Reznor," spokeswoman Patricia Primrose said.

Through a spokeswoman, Reznor declined to comment on the charges against Appelbaum.

Appelbaum, who was arrested Monday and released on her own recognizance Wednesday, declined to discuss the case.

"I can't wait until this is over," she said. "I didn't do it. All I want is to go home to Atlanta to be with my family."

Appelbaum and her husband planned to move back to Georgia today, but those plans are on hold while the case is pending. The District Attorney's office is reviewing the case.

Reznor, who also owns a Magazine Street recording studio, apparently hired a private investigator to look into problems with his account. The investigator shared information with the New Orleans Police Department, according to court records. They interviewed another woman who told them Appelbaum used her computer to access Reznor's account.

Happiness In Slavery Video Airs Uncut

On Tuesday night there was a show called "Filiere-x" which is X-files in french on Musique Plus (Much Music) and on that show they talk about contreversial stuff in music today.

Well the topic for Tueday was violence and sex in videos. They showed 4 videos and they had artists and fans there who gave out ratings.

First off they showed COME TO DADDY from APHEX TWIN, the reponse we're pretty good for it, then they showed SPARK from Tori Amos (which I don't have a fucking clue to what's contreversial in it) Then they showed FOREST FIRE from DAVID USHER, the only thing that was a bit violent was a small operation on some guy....BUT then they showed HAPPINESS IN SLAVERY "UNCUT" (they never censor on the french music channel) anyway after all the blood and gore was done, she asked the first person who was a french musician, and her response was "My God I've never seen anything like it..i'm speechless, i can't tell you if this is art or not"The other one who was a producer for kids channel said "I'm totally numb, I mean it's well produced but the violence in it is intolerable", then they asked a musician from a band called BARF and he said "I loved it, it kick's ass" and then they asked a fantasy-movie making person he said "This is totally fucked up, but I loved it, it's well done" and the last one said "I can't believe they actually made videos like that", then the show ended when he was talking. I don't know if they'll have a rerun of that show but i'll try to catch it, since my friends got a capture card now.

Chris Vrenna sitting in for Stabbing Westward

News of Chris Vrenna sitting in for Stabbing Westward Drummer...

Andy Kubiszewski broke his collarbone while roller-blading before a scheduled show in Madison, Wisconsin. This is the second time he's broken his right collarbone, the last time was in '94 three days after he finished the Crowded House tour.

The band was in the middle of a summer tour of clubs and radio shows to support its recent release, "Darkest Days."

Chris Vrenna will be sitting in for Andy for 3 shows.

June 7th- Kansas City radio show.
June 12th-Los Angeles industry show.
June 13th- Sacramento radio show.

Also the very famous english session drummer Geoff Dugmore (Killing Joke, Thompson Twins....etc.etc.) will take over somewhere around June 20th and will play for about 4 weeks, or until he's able to slide back in. Hopefully around mid or late July things will fall into place again. It appers that some of the tour with GLU will be salvaged afterall... although he'll be sitting in LA healing.

Thanks to: lessa.

16Volt Album w/ Vrenna for August Release

I reported last month on my April 6th update (read old news) that the new 16Volt album titled "Super Cool Nothing" with Chris Vrenna playing "all the live drums" and Bill Kennedy who co-produced album, (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson) has been confirmed for an August 18 release on Slipdisc records.

More on Mike Garson

Here's some follow up news from my May 17th update on the Bowie keyboardist, Mike Garson who is contributing to the new NIN Album "The Fragile".

BOWIE keyboardist Mike Garson has just been tapped to tour with the Smashing Pumpkins in Europe and will also play on the forthcoming album from Nine Inch Nails (a connection that was made during 1995's DAVID BOWIE/Nine Inch Nails tour)

as well as some quick Manson news from todd....

"Golden Years"--from BOWIE's 1976 LP Station To Station--revamped by Marilyn Manson for the opening credits of the upcoming MTV/Paramount film Dead Man On Campus. And according to a recent item in New York magazine, Manson has said, "I'm going to become the next Ziggy Stardust."

Trent losing in Votes!

Recently many of you have been wanting me to REpost this again, giving to the amount of emails I have been getting. So I thought I would do it one more time...

Trent Reznor was once ranked #1 at the "Worldwide Observatory" beating Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumkins) and Tori Amos. Well it appears, sadly that pumpkin fans out there have gained enough strength to pick up their hero and take a steady lead knocking Trent third place with 16.4 points ... Lets see if we can get Trent's name BACK at #1 where it belongs...

You all can do it by clicking the address ::
Vote Trent Reznor.

Thanks to : you know who you are.

Gary Numan Chat - Mentions of Trent

Early today Gary Numan was in Yahoo chatting online about his recent work. I was told that Trent Reznor was brought up a few times during the chat...

i'm in yahoo chat right now, the gary numan thing. he said trent brought "metal" over, and that it is really hard, but brilliant. he also says he's a huge fan of trent.

As you all may know from yesterday's update. Alternative Press reported NINE INCH NAILS were going to contribute a cover version of the song "Metal," but later withdrew from the project.

Gary Numan just told me he has done a collaboration with trent reznor. and that he is also doing collaborations with the prodigy and fear factory, possibly for the fragile?

Some of you may know already know of Gary Numan, but those who don't... Marilyn Manson covered the track "Down in the Park" on the Lunch Box EP a while back that Gary Numan wrote.

Numan didn't say that the track was going to be released. Numan also said that he likes Trent's new material that he has been putting out...

Well knowing what has actually been going on in Trent's head, with his many collaborations... we can only wait to hear what's next...

Thanks a lot to: wolf r. (from the online chat) and roger.

Not much today... I'm trying to sort out all the necessary news...

NIN on X-Files Confirmed True, but...

Well the rumor is now officially confirmed about the X-files phenomenon that was plaguing the (n)internet.
This report found in the new July addition to Alternative Press...

"ROLL OVER, FOX MULDER" Alt-Rockers All Over X-FILES Soundtrack

..."It is rumored that Oasis' Noel Gallagher reportedly bowed out of his appearance at the Burt Bacharach tribute show in NYC to work on "Teotihuacan," his solo instrumental debut for the soundtrack. NINE INCH NAILS were going to contribute a cover version of the Gary Numan song "Metal," but later withdrew from the project. The X-FILES film hits theaters June l9."

The first and only mention of this song was in a details article in 1995:

"Computers and keyboards areset up around him: He is working on a cover version of an obscure old Gary Numan song called "Metal". As we talk, he puts his feet on a switched off keyboard in front of him and moves his socks up and down, playing chunky, atonal chords neither of us can hear."

eh, that's to bad...

Thanks a lot to: crystal and azad.

NIN on VH1 (pictures soon)

I finally got to see those 3 seconds of Trent on the VH1 special that I reported a few weeks back.

VH-1 is constantly RE-showing a show called, "The 100 Greatest Artists of Rock and Roll."

At #82 was a band called Devo (remember the song,"...whip it..whip it good..."), and right before showing the video was a quick clip of Trent mentioning how he favored technology. Nothing earth shattering, but it still is something.

Yeah nothing BIG- but I'll have pictures and a few movie clips of the slight appearance later tonight. The video on my computer has a malfuction which i'm trying to fix... so c heck back in THIS specific update for clips and 5 second clip of Trent...

Thanks a lot to: KalikaVamp.

Trent/NIN Mentions in A.P.

Here are a few Trent/NIN references in the new A.P mag. First one located int the Tori Amos article on page 70.

"Amos owes as much to Led Zeppelin, Prince and NINE INCH NAILS as she does to Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell (the usual tired comparisons she receives.) But Choirgirl Hotel fully transcends any self-absorbed piano-girl pigeonhole and places her in the company of modern-rock visionaries such as PJ Harvey, TRENT REZNOR, Bjork and Billy Corgan-- epic songwriters working on the biggest scale with the grandest themes, but with an intensely personal, unique vision."

Thanks to: crystal and azad.

and finally. NIN referenced in the record review of Pitchshifter, page ll0:

"Pitchshifter's DGC debut, www.pitchshifter.com, is a full-throttle lunge for the jugular that gnaws on your carotid artery while stomping your head with such a heavy throb of guitars and driving electronics that NIN and Ministry seem tame in comparison."

Thanks to: crystal.

That's all the news for now, more later...

The SLS team and I will begin heavy construction on the our new SLS site again soon... Summer begins just around the corner for me- giving me EXTREME web time for the site...

Adrian Belew, the latest

Adrian himself gives an official report about his role in the new NIN album. This is from Belew's official homepage, a section called "Adrian's Corner" -a section where Adrian gives a report himself on what he's been doing (you have to scroll down a bit before you get the NIN part).

The next project was a bit more well known. February 8 through 12 I worked with Trent Reznor on the next NINE INCH NAILS record . It was fascinating to see how he makes records; a totally different approach than mine. I love the sounds he gets. He had 40 tracks for me to attack, none of which had vocals. For three days we worked long hours and I played some of the most aggressive guitar playing I've done in a while. There were several tracks which required Trent to manipulate the pedals on the floor while I played endless solos. We joked that the two of us made a pretty good guitarist. I also played cello, mandolin, lap steel, and string bass. Trent has a devoted crew of engineers and computer experts and a first class studio. He was kind enough to show me through his renovated historic New Orleans home as well. I have no idea what the record will ultimately sound like but I can't wait to hear it.

Those have been asking for more information on the NIN album... I report all that I know with out stiring up trouble, rumors I mean. So, this is the latest and most of the news of Adrian case closed for THIS topic...

Thanks to: jgl.

Top 25 of the 90's Countdown

I checked Mtv's listing here to see maybe if I could catch the show my self. Mtv's Tubescan lists the show to air again Sunday @ 12pm & 5pm June 3rd.

Nine Inch Nails "Closer" aired #10 on Mtv's "Top 25 of the 90's Countdown" [from Summer Share]. There was a brief clip of Trent talking about his music before the video.

I'm not sure if this date and time I added is accurate because it could be yesterday's mtv listings. It doesn't say. If it does show to be correct- I'll take some LARGE pictures of the short Trent interview for you all.

NIN on 1515

I missed the episode of Mtv's 1515 today. But I was told they aired the special that was suppose to air last week, but didn't because of the recent death of Frank Sinatra.

I'll get a chance to catch and see it on Sunday, May 24th. Which comes on 11:30am. They discussed information on Adrian Belew and his work on the new album as well as information on Robin Fink with Guns N' Roses. Oh and Marilyn Manson having an album out by the end of August, maybe.

Anyways... I'll have the FULL report with detailed news, pictures and movies.

Thanks to: heretic.

If I have any news to report and have access to the internet... I'll update what I know. I won't be checking my mail up there, but if I do IF I do have news that I know of personally... I'll see to it to update. But Sunday when I get back, I'll update the site with the all latest. See you all then...

Down Load Manson on ABC

First off I made this report because I'm testing out some of my software and I thought this Manson interview on ABC would be a good test...

I reported yesterday that Marilyn Manson would be on ABC today from the Rolling Stone magazine celebration. They were celebrating their 30th anniversary discussing many issues such as the one I upload to the net of Manson. Anyways... I made a quick time video out of the file. When I started out it was 35 megs, I shrunk it down to 460k. The audio is great and the picture is decent...

If you don't have quick time. You can down load the software here. Those who would like to contribute their thoughts on improving my video making skills let me know. I'd love to hear them...

12 Rounds - Dream On (Real Audio)

Here is the 12 Rounds track "Dream On. " It was "rethought" by Trent, and mixed by Dave "Rave" Olgilvie. The quality is pretty decent, it went from 12" to Normal Bias Tape to 16bit Audio Card.

You can download the track with these 2 Real Audio connections...

Dream On :: 28.8-s tereo file (Real Audio) - 739k

Dream On ::
56k- ISDN-stereo file (Real Audio) - 1.5megs

You can also down the files zipped which is quick here at my mirror site....

This is not nin material. It doesn't even sounds close to NIN those expecting to hear something by Trent. Its a weird sound... a must down load for those who are interested...

Details on Adrian Belew

Here is a detailed report concerning the Mtv news brief about Adrian Belew...

In February, Adrian Belew went to Nothing Records in New Orleans to play on a few tracks for Fragile (just like Downward Spiral); Adrian reported to say that he played on 40 tracks, none of which had vocals. He said he played endless solos in guitar, he also played instruments such as cello and mandolin (yes, the new NIN will be very different...a cello on a nails album?!). This addresses the rumor of as many as 40 tracks for the new album, and it also addresses the rumor of the new album being all instrumental (just to add my humble opinion to both of these rumors: remember that Downward Spiral originally had around 25 tracks, but they were integrated with each other to combine into the 14 songs that appeared on the album, certainly it would be nice to have 40 new nails tracks, but I don't believe that will be the case; and as for an all instrumental album, it wouldn't surprise me Trent seemed like he had no idea what to write about on the new album when he first started work on it, so perhaps he took the easy way out and just didn't include vocals at all- but on the other hand, Trent has said that the new album is about risks, and not having vocals would not be a risk at all (it would be a cop out), plus, and more importantly, you know how secretive Trent is about his music before it gets released, and everybody knows that Trent has changed what NIN is all about (lyrically -he has stated this many, many times in interviews), so chances are good that if someone had heard the lyrics to the new songs then they would spill it out to the public (just look at how much information Adrian Belew gave about his trip to Nothing Records, for example), so I would guess that Trent is waiting to record vocals very last, after everything else has been completed.

For those confused, the album will be consisted with vocals. Don't take it any way else... that last part was only a personal statement from the source.

Thanks a lot to: JGL.

Luke Vibert on NIN

This from www.brainwashed.com's luke vibert (plug, wagonchrist) site:

News from a Nothing Records spy. Trent Reznor has been thinking about bringing Luke to the Nothing studios in New Orleans to do some programming for the new NIN album. Even more interesting than that is the fact that Reznor had originally wanted to enlist the help of Tom Jenkinson [Squarepusher], but changed his mind when he heard through the grapevine that Tom's a "flake."

Slightly old news, but I never gave the report on SLS. Those who didn't know, do now.

The Latest on 12 Rounds

sheet Here's the latest on 12 Rounds, the new band signed to Nothing Records. Below are track listings, scans and more. The title of the album is still 'to be announced.'

As well as scans of the promo here are some details on the description of new addition to 12 Rounds. The street date is set for June 9th. I don't plan on getting MP3s- there is no need for them as of now...

Pleasant Smell (rethought by Trent Reznor, Keith Hillebrandt and Clint Mansell, Sniper's "Hit 'N' Run" vocal mix, Rethought mix by Charlie Clouser, Rethought mix by Steve Duda, Sniper's "Regular Specials" dub.

ROCK: Nothing Records brings us the duo of Claudia Sarne & Atticys Ross. This music has a uncanny yet cutting edge of ciolent croticism with a little emotional desperation thrown in. They really do their best to avoid definition and try to be original. Some say they have been compared to Eartha Kitt on crack or somewhere between Tricky's claustrophobic experimentalism and the B-day party's sexualized Punk Blues.

12 rounds Track Listings to 12 Rounds :: (click picture for large scan)

1. Come On In Out Of The Rain 4:25

Trent Wins an Award

Trent and others wins "College Radio Award", details below from allstar.

Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, Jewel, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and No Doubt were among the artists honored at the 15th annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards, held Monday (May 18) night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The night's most special honors, though, went to legendary Motown founder Berry Gordy, who received ASCAP's first American Legend Award, and to the recently passed Frank Sinatra, who received a special tribute.

The big winners included songwriter Diane Warren ("Unbreak My Heart," performed by Toni Braxton, "How Do I Live," by LeAnn Rimes, "For You I Will?," by Monica, and "Because You Loved Me," by Celine Dion), who took home the Songwriter of the Year honors as well as Song of the Year for "Unbreak My Heart."

Other winners included the Verve Pipe's Brian Vander Ark, who performed "The Freshman" acoustically, Tracy Chapman, Shawn Colvin, Glen Ballard, Hanson, the Spice Girls, John Mellencamp, Bryan Adams, Steve Miller, Dave Matthews, and many others. The awards were given to the writers and publishers of the most performed songs from Oct. 1, 1996 through Sept. 20, 1997.

The latest on Chris Vrenna!

Lots of new news from jamtv for those Vrenna fans out there... including pod boy's first-ever solo album...

Whittling his six degrees of separation down to nil, former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna has spent the last year converting the rock 'n' roll elite to his electronic creed.

Mixing for Green Day, programming for Hole and producing for Rasputina among others, the wildly energetic Vrenna has planted his flag high atop the mountain. And, boy, is he exhausted from the climb.

Since evacuating the Nine Inch Nails headquarters in New Orleans more than a year ago, Vrenna has toiled endlessly to sharpen his programming skills and beef up his résumé. Before splitting from Trent Reznor, the computer-savvy Vrenna had dabbled in engineering, remixing and editing for Marilyn Manson, Metallica and David Bowie. The current craze began in 1997, when Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan approached Vrenna to program "The End is the Beginning is the End" -- the band's Grammy-winning contribution to the Batman & Robin soundtrack.

Soon, every who's who in L.A. and beyond wanted Vrenna to escort them into the 21st Century.

"Since a lot of bands had never really gone into electronics before, I got called to do a lot of programming work for those who wanted to add that certain element to their stuff," he told JAMTV last week. "That's basically what I did for Billy [Corgan] and that's what I did for Hole."

After co-writing and co-producing six songs for the Witchblade soundtrack, Vrenna launched into his first full-time producing gig for the alternative dance/rock group, Rasputina. Next came a flood of remixes including a "crazy, ridiculous" new version of Green Day's "Brain Stew" for the Godzilla soundtrack and a contribution to the "South Park"-spawned Orgazmo soundtrack.

Perhaps the most demanding -- and rewarding -- task to date was a full-time producing gig with a female-led Atlanta act named Underwater, which Vrenna describes as "dark and somber" with an ambient groove.

"I look at every project as a challenge," he said. "There's always a set of rules: This particular artist likes this and doesn't like this. You don't want to blow their integrity, so you have to think of what it is that would be best for them."

The critical accolades will likely begin trickling in this summer, when Vrenna's work premiers beneath Courtney Love on the new Hole album. After declining an offer to work with the band last fall due to prior commitments with Rasputina, Vrenna agreed to mix six songs for the follow-up to Live Through This, which he calls "very pop."

Shortly after the Hole release on June 2, Vrenna will crawl back into the workshop to record his first-ever solo album. In early June, the sparkling workaholic will embark on his self-indulgent adventure with a crew of accomplished and distinguished musicians. Though he would not name names, Vrenna said his fans would recognize his to-be collaborators.

"There are a bunch of people -- singers and other musician-types -- who have been friends of mine or who I have met that have said, 'We should jam some time.' So, this is the record for me to do my own experimental album with collaborations with a bunch of different people. It will be pretty diverse, but I'm hoping it's also very catchy."

Following that star-spangled jam session, Vrenna will record part two of his solo endeavor with a full-time backing band that will lay down "more organic" tracks than heard on his previous work.

Vrenna has reserved no room within his cramped itinerary for his former friend and bandmate Trent Reznor. Though the Nine Inch Nails mastermind has already begun work on the follow-up to 1994's The Downward Spiral, he has not contacted Vrenna to produce, engineer or contribute to the album. And chances are he won't.

"We haven't spoken in over a year, so I don't really keep tabs on what he's been up to," Vrenna said.

Though he enjoyed great critical and financial success with Nine Inch Nails, Vrenna does not wax nostalgic about his days behind the drum kit. As grunge slips farther and farther from the mainstream, and electronic music gains a foot hold, Vrenna can think of nothing he would rather do than twiddle knobs.

"That's the best thing -- not being just the drummer," he said. "I'm super fortunate that I have the opportunity to do a lot of things, it keeps everything fresh. Things are better than I could have ever hoped, and I'm happier than I've ever been in my life right now." (Anni Layne)

Thanks a lot to: wufbane.

I have LOTS more news to report.... I have to step out for a bit... I will be back soon to report the rest... thanks.

30-40 NIN Tracks Reports Mtv?

Here are some new reports on the new NIN album on Mtv News... I don't have a strong number on how many tracks, because I haven't seen the report yet. Here are the details as of now...

i just saw an mtv report detailing all the expected album this summer. they said something about adrian laid down riffs for him on many instruments in feb, and that he has about 40 tracks done. No word on date. They also talked about mansons new album, and guns n' roses trying to make a new album with finck on gutair.

hey, i was watch'n MTV NEWS today... the 6:50 AM one... and they were just talking about the new NIN album being like 30 tracks long and they mentioned robin fink playing for guns n' roses. they showed a clip for the perfect drug and march of the pigs.

I'll check the tv reports tonight when I sit down... I got the video audio to work on my new Mac G3, so I can start capturing movie files. Instead of JUST screen shots. So when I check the report out for myself- I'll have everything online; if there is anymore on this subject to download for you all...

Thanks to: chewy and cmachian.

Okay well I fixed the lag time again. All that is on this month's page is May news. April news is where it belongs... I have a february month of news that I'm going to add to the image map at the bottom the this page to go with the rest so... this should hold out for a while...

Sadly I will be gone all weekend Saturday- May 23rd through Monday- May 25th. But if I have any NEW news to report before I leave in early morning saturday, I'll have it online. When I get back, I'll update first thing for you all. I'm not going on any more trips untill the summer which then I'll be putting full effort into SLS and SLS NIN News.

Happy Birthday Trent!

sing it As you all know... Today is Trent's birthday... He was born on May 17, 1965, @ 7:30 a.m. EDST. And thanks to Thomas for contributing this wonderful picture he took of Trent celebrating his 33rd birthday while singing "March of the Pigs" this evening, no I'm kidding. =) But this screen shot comes from a live video I have of March of the Pigs.

Bowie To Blow Off Swiss Digs

Here some interesting news pertaining to Trent's New album...

The David Bowie website, Teenage Wildlife, was resourceful enough to snag a news report off France-Presse (and translate it!) that reveals that David Bowie has put his 14-room Swiss mansion on the market -- and or those of you Bowie fans who might consider sleeping in the same room where the Thin White Duke laid his blonde head, you'll have to fork over a little more than $3 million dollars American for the 19th century home the singer has owned for the past 15 years.

Why is he putting the place for sale now? According to the report, the lovely Iman prefers the pace of city life to the pastoral delights of the Swiss countryside, and balks every time dear David suggests putting on their lederhosen and heading for the hills. The couple have not spent any quality time there since 1992, and Bowie, always the shrewd businessman, decided to unload the Swiss elephant. Also according to this very same site, another reason Bowie isn't spending much time around the old homestead is that he and his keyboardist, Mike Garson, have been sticking their little fingers (no, make that long, elegant fingers) into Trent Reznor's new-- reportedly all-instrumental -- album. Maybe Trent's been talking to Lloyd Cole?

Thanks to: adam.

Mtv 1515 Screw UP

It appears that Mtv lied? I got in just in time this evening to watch Mtv's "1515" report every friday, but before hand checking my email. Numerous viewers wrote me saying that NIN was going to be on 1515 at the selected time frame. Here's what Mtv had to say about it on their site: (click address to go the their site)

Also on this week's "MTV News 1515," preview new music that bands like Nine Inch Nails, Alanis Morissette, Bush, Marilyn Manson, and Hole, are hard at work on in the studio.

Well I taped it and watched the show 2 times- just to make sure I didn't miss anything- since I left the room a few times... Well the address to the little news brief talked about EVERYTHING but the "preview new music from bands..." So my guess is they'll show it on tomorrow's 11am broadacsting OR they were told not to report it. Bottom line something got screwed up and there was no NIN.

Thanks for EVERYONE who wrote in for letting me know...

The latest of 12 Rounds

Thanks a lot to: lizbeth.

I'll have another update HOPFULLY soon on the promo buisness. I haven't talked to Jay all day today, I've been out.

Tomorrow, Saturday I won't be home. I have my prom to go to and all my updates will go up if I still have the energy when I get back in the morning... That'll be Sunday... Don't forget Trent's Birthday is Sunday... May 17th.

Vrenna/ Seal News

This Seal News website reports new information on Vrenna "drumming" with Seal.

Former Nine Inch Nails member and programmer Chris Vrenna has been very busy of late. Not only has he been busy programming for other bands such as Marilyn Manson and the Smashing Pumpkins, but he's also been lending a hand to Seal.

Straying from his programming expertise, Chris has been helping out on the forthcoming, and as-yet-untitled album, by performing on drums for the track "What Have I Done To Deserve This".

Clouser Remixes Esthero

In the new CMJ Magazine "New Music Report" Clouser remixes esthero...

Charlie Clouser has done a remix of a song called "Breath From Another," which is the first single from a trip-hop act named Esthero (the brainchild of which is a 19 year old girl) whose debut album is in stores now. Clouser's remix is available on a dance 12" which has other mixes of the same song by different artists - at this point I'm not sure whether or not the 12" is promo only or can be purchased, but I'm looking into it. I'll hopefully have a copy of the song soon and I'll encode it when I do.

Mike Garson on Fragile

Bowie keyboardist Mike Garson has just been tapped to tour with the Smashing Pumpkins in Europe and will also play on the forthcoming album from Nine Inch Nails

The Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Marilyn Manson, Scott Weiland, Puff Daddy, Seal, Public Enemy and The Wallflowers--all of these artists are united by the influence of DAVID BOWIE, via his past and present musical explorations.

BOWIE keyboardist Mike Garson has just been tapped to tour with the Smashing Pumpkins in Europe and will also play on the forthcoming album from Nine Inch Nails (a connection that was made during 1995's DAVID BOWIE/Nine Inch Nails tour), while Garson and BOWIE guitarist Reeves Gabrels will both play on Seal's next album. Gabrels likewise recently played on The Cure track "Sorry Wrong Number" and performed with the band at a special gig in Los Angeles (a musical union that began when the two met at BOWIE's 50th birthday show at Madison Square Garden where Smith joined BOWIE onstage for two songs). What's more, Gabrels is working on an upcoming project with Public Enemy.

Meanwhile, The Wallflowers presently have the most added single in the country with their rendition of "Heroes"--from BOWIE's 1977 album of the same name--on the Godzilla soundtrack. Also due out is "Golden Years"--from BOWIE's 1976 LP Station To Station--revamped by Marilyn Manson for the opening credits of the upcoming MTV/Paramount film Dead Man On Campus. And according to a recent item in New York magazine, Manson has said, "I'm going to become the next Ziggy Stardust." Another favorite BOWIE track--"Let's Dance," the title track from his 1983 smash album--was sampled by Puff Daddy in his recent hit single "Been Around The World."

X-Files Mistake

This was recently brought to my attention. I am considering this a rumor or just a plain out flat mistake... because this has not been announced, and it appears to be a mistake. Details below...

An animated graphic states Nine Inch Nails is contributing music/ or something to the movie soundtrack of X-Files, yet it does NOT state it in the information below the graphic. The address to this is: X-Files: the Album.

When the page is fully loaded carefully watch as the names scroll by- Nine Inch Nails appears after Sarah McLachlan....

As I find out answers, SLS will report the story...

Thanks to: fox.

GENITORTURERS

According to a Cleopatra Records add in Tower Records's PULSE! magazine: "GENITORTURERS SIN CITY".

The GENITORTURERS are an underground cult act ready to break out, having already experienced coverage in ROLLINGSTONE, SPIN, RIP, and others. This new recording has enlisted NINE INCH NAILS engineer. Get ready for the fetish to begin."

Thanks to: rick.

Mentions of NIN

Some snippets in the recent June release of SPIN magazine with Natalie Imbruglia on cover...

No significant NIN news in this issue; however, there are small references to NIN as far as Lollapalooza (the rejection of by NIN) on page 72 about the summer tours.

There are also several references to NIN on page 139 in the Metal Machine Music Review. In particular, there is a very nasty description of Trent in the very last line of the article by Chuck Eddy in the review of Tattoo of Pain...... he says (with reference to the music) that "there's enough unbridled cluelessness here to justify TRENT REZNOR's entire flawed existence."

Thanks to: crystal.

Ice-Cube Interview

The following is an interview from a magazine called " Live - Everything Entertainment" with Ice Cube. The interview has some mentions of Trent & Marilyn.

Peter Tilden: Who shocks you?

Ice Cube (Westside Connection): You know what shocks me? Videos. I can look at a Marilyn Manson video and go, "Damn!"You know, be blown away to the point where I want to do something ...just dope.

PT: You mean something with shock value?

IC: Shock doesn't work unless it's good. To get fans and any kind of longevity, that shock value is gonna play out after one or two records, so you really gotta have the meat behind that to keep it going. Especially in rap, where you're here today, gone tomorrow.

PT: Could I possibly go into an IHOP at 2 a.m. and see you sitting with Marilyn Manson having a pancake sandwich?

IC: (Laughs) Ya might! You never know. I've done records with Trent Reznor. He pushes the envelope; his music is different. I just think he's off the hook.

PT: I think he's off the hook, too. By the way, what does that mean?

IC: Well, "off the hook" means it's so good, you gotta take the phone off the hook. Like, say you're in with a girl and you say, "She off the hook." Then, if you really want to make that claim, you say, "She off easy."

That is all to do with Trent and Manson in the interview.

Thanks to: jonny.

More of Option 30

Here's more of the 'Option 30' topic in the New CMJ Musc Monthly magazine with a scan of what used to be Trent with short 'spikey' hair...

option 30 To look at him now, you'd never know that Trent Reznor was once a dorky-looking goober in a dorky sounding new wave band. Or would you? Six years before the release of Nine Inch Nails's groundbreaking Pretty Hate Machin, Reznor and some of his Pennsylvania buddies recorded some demos as Option 30. Shriek Records recenly released an album, simply called Option 30, that combines eight demo tracks with several sort interview egments. The originals reveal the band's admitted tendency to be "too Pilice-ish," and covers of Falco's "Der Kommissar," and the Thompson Twins' "Lies" sound just plain silly. But what's priceless are the interview bits, conducted by a local DJ, which reveal where Reznor's head was at before he developed his own cult of personality. "It's not easy being in a band," he admits during one segment. "In fact, it's pretty lonely."

Thanks to: azad for the scans.

GLU will be joining fellow Philadelphian Josh Wink (song TBA) along with Chris Vrenna ("Assimilate"), Adrian Sherwood ("Tin Omen"), Autechre (TBA), Rhys Fulber ("Worlock") and Ruby ("Smothered Hope").

Antebi says he's looking for artist-oriented remixes and expects to add another three to five tracks to the record. There's no release date or album title at this time.

Skinny Puppy were pioneers of the industrial goth genre and stood shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Ministry and Nine Inch Nails. They were first formed in 1982 and disintegrated in the early 1990s.

GLU will be squeezing the Puppy remix into a schedule that includes a current tour supporting their just released second album, "Life in the So-Called Space Age," and overseeing their pet project, a tribute record honoring Depeche Mode. California's BAM magazine reports that the tribute, called "For the Masses," is shrouded in secrecy, but will probably feature GLU ("Fly on the Windscreen"), the Cure ("World in My Eyes"), Trent Reznor ("Personal Jesus"), Smashing Pumpkins ("Never Let Me Down Again"), Failure ("Enjoy the Silence"), Meat Beat Manifesto ("Everything Counts"), Apollo Four Forty ("I Feel You"), Dishwalla ("Policy of Truth"), Deftones ("To Have and to Hold"), Monster Magnet ("Black Celebration"), Hooverphonic ("Shake the Disease"), Smashmouth ("People are People"), Foo Fighters ("Master & Servant"), and Self ("Shame"). The album is due in August.

The glue of GLU is the songwriting/programming/guitar team of David Reilly and Jeff Turzo. They're joined on the road by drummer Scott Garrett and guitarist Andrew McGee.

Here's some interesting news sent to me from a 1500 Records mailing list...

I'm on the official God Lives Underwater mailing list (straight from 1500 Records) and they sent an update yesterday about the Depeche Mode tribute (For The Masses: Music Not Played By Depeche Mode). Someone had made the comment that they thought Trent Reznor was contributing his version of "Personal Jesus" to the album, but Jeff [Turzo, from GLU] said that Trent said he would like to finish the song, but he was too busy doing his own work right now. I thought the "Personal Jesus" cover was just an ill-founded rumor, but it looks like Trent was really working on it. Maybe we'll hear it in the future.

The final tracklist of the album may interest some NiN fans. It will be released on the first Tuesday of August this year.

The artists and titles on the album are:

Smashing Pumpkins - Never Let Me Down Again
God Lives Underwater - Fly On The Windscreen
Failure - Enjoy The Silence
The Cure - World In My Eyes
Dishwalla - Policy Of Truth
Veruca Salt - Somebody
Meat Beat Manifesto - Everything Counts
Hooverphonic - Shake The Disease
Locust - Master & Servant
Self - Shame
Monster Magnet - Black Celebration
Rabbit in the Moon - Waiting For The Night
Apollo 440 - I Feel You
Gus Gus - Monument
Deftones - To Have and to Hold
Rammstein - Stripped

As of now- it's hard to say which is the correct news. I will be looking into this my self later... stick it here for the latest...

Thanks a lot to: wes.

Details Magazine

Here's a cool picture from the I'm Afraid of Americans video shoot that was in Detailes magazine

I picked up Details today.. they did a "six degrees of separation" with puff daddy (name a musician and under 6 links, how is that person related to puffy).

also in the magazine , they do a review of Smashing Pumpkins new disc and describe their song ava adore as a hybrid of Aphex Twin and NIN ( by the way.. i heard the song, and it does not sound like aphex or NIN.. it has a minimal amount of electronic bleeps and things in it that obviously confused the retard who wrote the article)

I'm going to have the pictures up later... I have them... I'll put them up soon.

Thanks to: azad for scans and the news.

Coil News

Here's some new news for all you Coil fans out there... This was from the official coil site: www.brainwashed.com/coil.

Summer Solstice occurs this year on 21st of June, at which time two Coil related things will happen.

"Moon's Milk Or Under An Unquiet Skull", the Vernal Equinox single will cease to be available. A new single will be released: 7" - "Bee Stings" c/w "Summer Substructures". Eskaton 13. 1000 copies on coloured vinyl. I dont know what colour yet as it depends on whats available. There will also be a smaller edition in another colour as was the case with Moons Milk.

CD - "Bee Stings" "Summer Substructures" "Glow Worm/Waveform" "A Warning From The Sun". Eskaton 14. Available until the Autumnal Equinox then deleted.

John Balance writes:

"William Breeze plays electric viola on "Bee Stings" and "Summer Substructures". They are all songs with me singing etc. "A warning from the sun" is dedicated to our friend Fritz who commited suicide a month ago." "We are going to rework the material from these 4 seasonal releases which will be a vinyl box set and CD set to be released on the Spring Equinox 1999. "We've spoken to Nothing and Backwards will be out in Jan 1999. I guess we will have other new albums out before then. "It's time for a new Black Light District album. "There should be a 5 disc set for Time Machines also out in the meantime."

Thanks to: mark.

Gary Numan Mentions NIN

Numan mentions NIN and Manson in the May issue of Rockpile on page 39 about the electronica music world. It reads as....

It is important to remember the roots of the sound. Marilyn Manson, NINE INCH NAILS, Prodigy and Stabbing Westward all owe some debt to one of the original electronic artists, Gary Numan. The article goes on to say that Marilyn Manson probably won't be backstage to thank Numan for his influence, but he probably should.

12 Rounds News

Some new news on 12 rounds for those types of listeners...

12 Rounds Duo Shooting For Higher Ground Dynamic trip-hop duo converges opposing styles to come out with a strangely dark sound on upcoming LP.

Contributing Editor Teri vanHorn reports:

LOS ANGELES -- Claudia Sarne and Atticus Ross are sitting in bungalow # 4 of the legendary Chateau Marmont Hotel, discussing their forthcoming June release under the band name 12 Rounds.

But the duo are not just talking about an album, they're describing the origins of a living thing. And suddenly it's clear why My Big Hero begins with the steady sound of a heartbeat.

"It became a direct result of the two of us marrying what I do and what Atticus does together, and this thing was born," vocalist Sarne says of the mix of moods and the teeter-taw of mediums that comprise the LP, due out in June. "It physically felt like giving birth -- we almost had to name her, but we didn't go that far.

Carrying both organic and electronic traits, the album's erotic, trip-hop blues is clearly a product of its eclectic parents.

Ross attributes the album's provocative, predominately dark feel to his darker sensibilities, making it sound like a demonically possessed child. Sarne "created a sort-of malicious character," he says. "I think that a lot of girls sing from the 'I'm-so-wronged' perspective, and not many sing from the 'I'm-capable-of-doing-wrong' perspective. That's the irony, I think -- the mood's kind-of dark, but it doesn't wear the pain as though we were on our cross."

Dressed for a photo shoot, Sarne, 28, is wearing a black dress with hot-pink fishnet stockings. At the moment, she is weirdly beautiful, with her short, black hair slicked back and chartreuse-green eye shadow entirely encompassing her blue eyes. "I don't usually look like this," she says in an apologetic tone.

The 29-year-old Ross, however, looks more earthly, dressed in black pants and a gray, button-down shirt. The Londoners are in Los Angeles for a quick visit and some media exposure as they search for a director for the album's first video, the arresting "Come On In Out of the Rain" (RealAudio excerpt).

Formerly a trio, 12 Rounds had limited exposure through Polydor before Sarne and Ross, who are romantic partners as well, decided to become a duo in 1996. "You had to be much more democratic in a three-piece, and you get some pretty weird dynamics when there's two girls and a guy," Sarne said. "It's an old thing that triangles just don't work, and for us, it was true. It started out pretty well, and then it just degenerated. None of us were growing as artists, or musicians, or programmers, so one of us had to fall by the wayside."

Jeff Anderson, who signed the duo to Nothing Records, said My Big Hero realizes the potential he felt for the band when he first heard 12 Rounds as a trio. "The minute I heard them, I completely fell in love with their music," he says while stocking the fridge to prepare for the duo's party that night. "As I got the new music, my gut feeling about them was confirmed."

My Big Hero's potential success might lie in that it crosses over the warmer, organic sounds and the more cutting edge of electronica while never pushing either sound too far. "We put equal emphasis on the programmed side as the live," Ross says. "The treatment of the guitar is like, use a guitar and keep it a guitar. I don't like it when a song records a guitar and then processes it until it doesn't sound like what it is anymore. We let the electronics and the string section exist each in their own right, but no song is one or the other."

When it comes to the album's use of unusual instruments, such as the chainsaw that cuts through "Bovine" and the fly that buzzes around on "Something's Burning," Ross is a bit more vague. "It just felt like it needed it," he says.

Ross and Sarne talk about My Big Hero as though it were a dramatic test of faith. "It was literally like looking at a fucking sea, and saying, 'I know I can get to the other side of that, but I don't know how to get to the other side of that," Sarne says, pointing and squinting as she stares in the distance.

For Sarne, building that bridge became a matter of gaining confidence -- while losing a little self-consciousness. "At the beginning I was scrutinizing everything so closely and I wasn't feeling confident about my writing," she says. "About midway through, we both kind of said 'fuck it' and let go a bit, and that's how it all came together."

Many of the lyrics were written almost subliminally, with Sarne letting them come to her in a stream of consciousness as she sang. But a lot of that inspiration, she adds, comes from suffering and loss of direction. "You know, when you loosen your control on the reign a tiny bit -- just enough so you can still feel the pull -- you can take a step forward without being paralyzed by your own fear, without confining yourself to the things that you know. I don't think that any growth is born out of not having any pain."

Thanks to: the 5 people who wrote in. =).

I have yet to recieve the full MP3 of Democracy (nin remix)... if I don't get it by the release date... I'll put my copy online...

We have almost compleated Closure for the net. Though I won't have it on the net for a while, cuz I'm going to do be doing some quick editing... I'm just leting everyone know that it's in the works. Vrenna News on Skinny Puppy.

In the June- Alternative Press issue, page l2... There's more news of Vrenna and others working on the new Skippy Puppy remixes. Details below...

Industrial mavericks Skinny Puppy wil be the subject of a different kind of tribute album. The record will contain remixes of Puppy tracks created by a bevy of respected artists. According to executive producer Jeff Antebi, the album will feature mixes by Autechre, CHRIS VRENNA (Tweaker, Nine Inch Nails), Adrian Sherwood, Ruby, Josh Wink and former Frontline Assembly member Rhys Fulber. Antebi's compay, Waxploitation, sent out invites to artists from all genres, citing that "It just didn't seem exciting enough to have the ususal suspects doing remixes." Antebi said the album, set for release on Nettwerk, may be out later this year.

Stabbing Mentions Reznor

Recently most interviews featuring Stabbing Westward always involve a mention of NIN/Trent Reznor. This snippet comes from the recent issue of Maximum Guitar Magazine.

Max: Has the success of bands like Prodigy or comparisons to Nine Inch Nails helped or hurt you?

Hall: We take any genere-lumping to Nine Inch Nails as a total compliment. Itís our third album, so weíd like to step out from underneath that umbrella and say, ìWe are our own entity.î While we were inspired by bands that were inspirational to Trent [Reznor] and Trent himself, this is our piece of art, from inside us and nowhere else."

More on Life Magazine

Here's what LIFE magazine had to say about Raygun's February 97 Cover of Trent Reznor... (more info on yesterdays report)

Trent Reznor, lead vocalist of Nine Inch Nails, sings of torture, suicide, sadomasochism and self-loathing. His videos are so raw that many have been censored by MTV. Jana Leon spent a full day photographing Reznor at his New Orleans home. And how would Leon describe the man who leaps onstage wearing army fatigues and fishnet stockings (together), roaring out such hits as "March of the Pigs"? "He was very patient," says Leon. "And very shy."

More Nothing News!

Here's some new "Nothing Record" news... in the new "CMJ New Music Monthly" magazine...

In this months weird record space, the Option 30 record is featured! The cover is there so everyone can get a look at a really weird looking Trent. They cover Falco's "Der Kommisar"?

Also, in the "BEST NEW MUSIC" category for the month, Plaid's "Not For Threes" is featured and is listed as being released by Warp and Nothing. It lists it's release date as 4-28-98, so I guess it's out there. Also, the next big deal is a review and release date are given for 12 Round's US debut, "Big Hero"! It's listed as coming out on 5-19-98 on Nothing.

I'm told that it's good issue with Garbage and Bernard Butler (ex-Suede) among others, lots of good reviews and such, great pictures of Shirley Mansonand a disc loaded with cool tracks by Garbage, Girls Against Boys, The Jesus Lizard, u-ZIQ, The Jesus And Mary Chain and Money Mark amongst many others!

Thanks a lot to: dave.

Phenomenology

Trent was mentioned in the 1996 Filter home video "Phenomenology"...

"Trent, a good bud of ours has everything you need for a studio, its great, it is a financial monster, something we aren't heading for"

Those interested in finding one, I am told that they are pretty hard to find... check large cities

SLS Interview Exclusive

Recently SLS had an exclusive with Rob Halford, thanks to Jim Rennie for contacting us. With that- we got to ask some questions pertaining to Halfords new life under Nothing Records Wing.... Below are few snippets from the interview that concerned Trent...

Jim: How has the new label been? How's Nothing been treating you?

Halford: Well, Nothing's very weird because Nothing is potentially nothing. The don't really have much of anything going for them, apart from (Trent) Reznor and John Malm, Jr., they're the guys who run the label. They sign a lot of people, just to distribute them. And then occasionally, they'll all put a whole deal together, something like Two. They give us some money, and we make a record. They subsidize tours and everything. All that's really, really, you know, the best feeling in the world. But the Nothing label is very much an artist environment, in terms of: they don't get in your way, they don't tell you what to do. It's just like, "Well, the reason you're here with us is we believe in you from the beginning, we believe in your music". So there's just very cool in the way they have a relationship with their people. It's great. Jim: Does that come a lot from the (label's) leadership?

Halford: What, you mean like from Trent (Reznor) and stuff?

Jim: Yeah.

Halford: Yeah... I mean, Trent's just a musician's musician. He just lets you get on with it. I think because he had some horrific encounters with his early labels, he doesn't want anyone to have to suffer that kind of environment again. He just makes it very, very cool. But it's a very kind of undisciplined, fragmented kind of organization. There's a lot of shifting, and spinning and stuff going on. From one thing to the next, things are constantly flexing and fluxing. Feels good, though.

Jim: Because the album was very "produced", in a way...

Halford: Yeah.

You can read the rest of the interview here. It's speaks of Trent a little more and lots upon Halfords recent concerts... a good interview I might add...

Thanks so much: jim.

Westside Samples Hurt

This is old news, but I thought I would do a brief report on it just in case it never made public!

hurt

sampledA rap group called Westside Connection, sampled the guitar notes from Nine Inch Nails "Hurt" on their 1996 album entitled "Bow Down" . (cd picture on right) The sample is located on track 7 and is named "The Gangsta, The Killa and The Dope Dealer". I'll have this online soon in MP3 and Streamed RA.

What's on the album reads:

Executed and mixed by Ice Cube. Recorded at Westside Studios Contains a sample from "Hurt" (T. Reznor), as recorded by Nine Inch Nails, under license from Nothing Records/Interscope Records through MCA Special Markets. Used by permission.

I've had this CD for quite a while now, just recently I was reminded of it and I thought this would be an interesting report.... if you haven't heard the lyrics, for what it's worth- they are pretty funny. (sorry for the glare in the disc, I snapped a picture... I'll scan it in this weekend.)
