NIN Side Project "Tapeworm" To Be Released In 2000
An SLS viewer wrote us this afternoon to explain, "There were a lot of interviews of Trent Reznor in French magazines this month.
Which were: Rock n'Folk, Elegy and Hard Rock."
"I just read the 'Hard Rock' one where he talks about Axl Rose and about the Tapeworm project (the album is going to be for spring 2000),"
explained Maury. "Also an interview on MCM television (a french television) where he says nothing really interesting (about how he felt when
the Fragile came out),this interview happened just before the Paris gig, said Maury. "I think that's why we had to wait 30 minutes after Atari Teenage Riot!"
We hope to have some transcripts or quotes at least on our next update.
Concert Reviews/Taped NIN Show Broadcast Update
We mentioned on November 28th, read our headline "Upcoming NIN/MTV Tour Collaboration For USA?" for more info, that Stefan Sandberg, who
will be contributing a review in the next few days for the Copenhagen performance and a more detailed look of what all happened backstage,
wrote back to us with some slightly new information about what the band said to him after he was asked to tape the concert.
Stefan explained, "they were going to compile all the videos from all the concerts into a tape which would air on MTV in the states (and that
it probably would be shown in Europe as well). More info on this when he writes us back again...
I thought we should mention that we will have about 12-15 more concert reviews online on our next update INCLUDING the many LIVE pictures from
the tour, that I haven't had the chance to upload...
Howard Stern Comments On "Into The Void" NIN Single
Howard Stern mentioned the new promotional NIN single "Into The Void" quite a bit today on his New York based radio station.
A viewer wrote in today after listening to Stern play 70% of "Into The Void", which Stern commented that unlike the
previous single We're in this Together, "flopped, this one is doing well." Both Howard Stern and Robin
Quivers said that Into the Void is the kind of NIN song they like. Robin Quivers also said that this song was probably
just one of those experimental songs from Trent. Howard said then added that Into the Void starts out cool and gets increasingly
more intense the longer the song plays.
They both loved it...
We're In This Together Part Two Scans
An SLS viewer named cosmic killer B wrote us this morning with some good news for fans who are waiting
patiently for the "We're In This Together" single. It seems part two of the three set single is now available (scans on right), which he bought in
Finland at the "Oskun Divari" shop. Oddly enough the cover art to the single is the same cover art to the promotional "Into The Void" single,
which hit radio stations officially yesterday.

10 MILES HIGH

Another SLS viewer, who goes by the online name Sand, wrote us with
some extra informative tidbits about the highly anticipated single.
Europe finally got a single, as WITT was released today. There are
three CD singles with tracklistings as posted on SLS some time ago, but CD
1 didn't come with a case for all three parts. All three of the singles
are in a slim jewel case (the normal format for German single releases).
The helpful man at the record store told me that when ordering a month or
more ago he had been informed that the first part WOULD come with a special
case, but when he called the record company today while I was there they
said they didn't know anything about a special case for all three singles.
New Details To The 42nd Annual Grammy Awards Entry List
Will, our source who wrote us on November 23rd about the many possible Grammy Award nominations Nine Inch Nails is up for is back with some extra
details about the Grammys and when the final votes take place.
"The Big Book, which is such a good name for it," Will adds "is actually called the '42nd Annual Grammy Awards Entry List' and is accompanied by the
'42nd Annual Grammy Awards Nominating Ballot'. The ballot is due to the independent accounting firm Deloitte and Touche, LLP by December 3rd, and they
make a big deal about mailing it promptly to avoid holiday season mail delays."
This is an excerpt from the introduction on the first page:
Let only your high standards of artistic and/or technical expertise be your guide. The enclosed Entry List contains outstanding recordings created by
those who depend on your knowledgeable vote to afford them the recognition they deserve. PLEASE JUDGE BY QUALITY ALONE, uninfluenced by personal friendships,
company loyalties, regional preferences or mass sales.
Select your Fields with discretion and vote only in the categories in which you are best qualified.
"Of course," adds Will, "as anyone can see, the former is not adhered to terribly well, as it is quite frequent that superstars beat out far more
talented upstarts who have less media coverage." For example, "if you pitted the Backstreet Boys against Tori Amos in a category, Tori's chances of
winning would be quite slim despite her much greater talent," explained Will. "But this rant is for another day."
"The nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 4," said Will. "A Final Ballot to select the winners in each category will be mailed to all
voting members on January 12, and the winners will be announced during the CBS telecast from the Staples Center in L.A. on February 23."
There are 24 fields ("general", "pop", "rock", "gospel", "polka", etc.) and 96 categories ("Song of the Year", "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group
with Vocal", "Best Jazz Instrumental Solo", etc.) "The book is white with the 42nd Grammy Awards logo in the top-left corner, it's standard letter size,
and has 241 pages," said Will.
"I have access to the book because my father, a three-time nominee, received it," explained Will. "It's mailed out by NARAS, of course."
For those who missed or never read our November 23rd update last week, "Many Possible Grammy Award Nominations For Nine Inch Nails" that Will sent us. Here's
the update again to catch you up on the nominations that Nine Inch Nails have a possible chance in winning. Record companies and members of the "National
Academy of Recording Arts and Science" submit legible recordings for consideration. For this years Grammy's that would mean records released between October
1st, 1998 and September 30th, 1999. Please keep in mind these are not the final nominations, but more like the nominations for the final nominations.
"The Fragile" was one of the 884 entries for "Album of the Year".
"The Day the World Went Away" and "We're in This Together" were 2 of the 44 entries for "Best Hard Rock Performance".
"Starf***ers, Inc." (as the Recording Academy wrote it) was entered amongst 36 others for the "Best Metal Performance".
NIN scored a whopping 6 entries for "Best Rock Instrumental Performance", dominating the other 19. "I'd be surprised if they weren't the final nominees
and even the winners of this field," reports Will.
"The Fragile" was also entered into the "Best Alternative Music Performance" category amongst 59 others.
The last category Nine Inch Nails was nominated for was "Best Hard Rock Performance" back in '97 for their experimental drum and bass track 'The Perfect
Drug' off 'The Lost Highway' soundtrack. Unfortunately, The Smashing Pumpkins took this award home with them for "The End is the Beginning is the End,"
which ex-NIN drummer/programmer Chris Vrenna contributed too.
Since 'The Fragile' was and still is critically acclaimed by major record magazines across the country; Nine Inch Nails have a very strong
potential on this years Grammy awards, which take place on February 23rd, 2000 at 8pm on ABC.
For more information on how the Grammys are voted upon, please read our November 23rd update.
Charlie Clouser INTEL Interview - Now Accessible
The Charlie Clouser interview, which can be found here,
restricted only to Pentium III owners/members is now accessible thanks to all those PIII users who contributed their help.
The brief interview, which was conducted over the summer talks about how Charlie Clouser uses Line 6's "Amp Farm," which is apparently, a
guitar-recording plug-in for PCI-based Pro Tools TDM systems that approximates the sound of several of rock's classic amplifier sounds.
Farm Aid
"We don't walk into the studio with the songs rehearsed and lay them down to tape. It's made up as we go along," says Charlie Clouser, keyboardist
and programmer for industrial-rock stalwarts Nine Inch Nails. "We need to be able to switch gears really quickly."
That's why he uses Line 6's Amp Farm, a guitar-recording plug-in for PCI-based Pro Tools TDM systems that approximates the sound of several of rock's
classic amplifier sounds. You get the 1959 Fender Bassman, 1964 Marshall JTM 45 and the 1963 Vox AC 30-all available with the click of the mouse.
Featuring a graphic interface that facilitates real-time adjustment, Amp Farm lets you process a direct guitar signal while recording or tweak the amp's
tones right up until final mix. No more heavy amps, setup time or wrestling with mic placement. Clouser has already used Amp Farm on Rob Zombie's Hellbilly
Deluxe and throughout Nine Inch Nails' impending summer release. U.S. suggested retail price is $595. You might be able to get a decent Fender Twin, (used)
for that amount."
We were informed that the PIII page is excellent and offers many free features to its members. They have downloads for all kinds of kits and upgrades
for existing software.

David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive" To Be Aired As A Two Hour Long TV Movie
It seems that ABC will air David Lynch's new series, but unfortunatly it will air as a 2 hour long "TV movie" instead of a series,
which means no Marilyn Manson cameos afterall. David Lynch has actualy requested that no one watches it, because it was mostly cut,
and was intended to be a long time series deal. You can find the actual artical here.
SPIN, Trent Reznor Cover Issue Posters
Heather G, a loyal SLS reader, wrote us yesterday to explain that she is now a proud
owner of a 35" x 23" poster of the Trent Reznor
SPIN cover issue. Read our November 29th headline, "The Fragile, Spin Magazine's 1999 Album of the Year!" for more information.
This is what happened:
We just so happened to be having lunch in China Town yesterday when we saw the large advertisements for the Spin '99
magainze were being pasted to a wall. We stopped and asked the laborers for a poster and sure enough, they gave us a couple!
I am now the proud owner of a 35" x 23" poster of the magazine cover at the top there's a bright blue banner with white writing
that reads: ISSUE ON SALE NOW; and there's another blue banner with white writing at the bottom that reads: (nin logo in black)
THE FRAGILE - IN STORES NOW. NIN.COM SPIN.COM
Keep a look out for these posters!!
Trent Reznor A Moonspell Influence
Who isn't these days? In this months edition of Terrorizor Magazine is an interview with the Portuguese
gothmetal band Moonspell. The magazine had asked them about their new album, which has a lot more industrial elements than their previous work.
Fernando, the singer said that many of the songs had a format of quiet verses and loud fast guitar choruses
and he then added, "it was about learning from Trent Reznor and people like him."
Random Nothing News
The current issue of rolling stone, featuring a collage of photos on the cover, now on stands,
has a few manson/nin tidbits that are worth mentioning...
On page 174, there's a photo of Manson and David Letterman together, which is an
article about pictures taken by rolling stone staff. There's a small article
on how the photographer wanted Bob Dole and Manson together, but setteled with Letterman instead.
On page 226-227 RS goes over "the year in recordings" where they submit older
reviews of albums... they included a review of the Fragile.
On page 250 there's an advertisement for a book called "Physiognomy", a collection of photos
by Mark Seliger. One of the 5 photos they show as examples include a photo featured
from Manson's last Rolling Stone cover, the one of him covered in pink feathers. The book's description says:
Physiognomy The Mark Seliger Photographs
[The study of how features reveal inner character]
Over 200 images, inc. some that have never before been published.
Thanks to: AstroShroom5.
St. Louis radio "105.7 The Point" recently held a 'Top 500 Alternative Songs of all Time' deal, which NIN & Manson
fortunately and respectively placed many times in the countdown:
NIN: 386 Terrible Lie, 302 Down In It, 46 Head Like A Hole, 12 Closer
Marilyn Manson: 212 The Beautiful People, 405 Sweet Dreams
