Explanation About Recent Change to Manson Live Disc Track Listing

Manson's management informed SeemsLikeSalvation the reason the Dr. Hook cover of "Get Your Rocks Off" was cut from Marilyn Manson's upcoming LIVE CD "The Last Tour On Earth" was just simply, "they had preferred to put [Astonishing Panorama Of The End Times] on the album instead of 'Get Your Rocks Off'," explains Manson's management.

Scott Putesky Comments About Demystifying The Devil

The director of the Marilyn Manson home video documentary "Demystifying The Devil," Chris Nicholas wrote us this evening to explain he was on the phone with KNDD 107.7 in Seattle earlier this morning with some pretty interesting feed back about his Marilyn Manson documentary. Nicholas explained to SeemsLikeSalvation, "They are the radio station that sent Scott Putesky aka Daisy Berkowitz to The Big Day Out Festival that Manson played at in New Zealand [last year]." The radio station conducted a live on air interview with Putesky and Nicholas. Putesky, "was in their studio in Seattle and they called me and we all spoke over the phone. Overall, it went really well," adds Nicholas.

"Scott thought that I gave Missi, Mr. Manson's ex-girlfriend, too much air time in Demystifying The Devil. I told him that it was my documentary and I thought Missi deserved even more time on camera. I explained that she was there with Manson, practically from the beginning and a lot of Manson's autobiography talks about her," adds Nicholas. "I felt that she deserved a forum to say what she had to say. Obviously, she thought so too, so she allowed us to interview her."

When Putesky recently sat down to watch the documentary he mentioned to Nicholas on air the quote Missi said about him, "Scott is such a hard person to work with." Nicholas explained to SeemsLikeSalvation that it annoyed him little bit after hearing his reaction. "What he didn't realize is that Manson must have come home everyday from the studio to Missi explaining his frustrations about Scott," explains Nicholas.

Nicholas will be holding some more interviews with some other radio stations and has about six more so that have green lighted the air time. He is currently waiting to set a date. He'll let us know when they are confirmed. Nicholas will also be keeping us informed on the various publications that are committing to doing reviews and stories on Demystifying The Devil.

Don't forget to watch Adina, the deaf dominatrix on Howard Stern's E! Show Tuesday, October 5th; it should be a blast.

More 013 Arena NIN Ticket Details

Tickets for the 013 arena are all available through major ticket outlets in Holland as well as 150 post offices like we said on September 26th (read our "New Europe NIN Tour Dates" headline for more info.) for Saturday, October 2nd, at 10:00. You can call the Dutch 0031-900-3001250 ticket service hotline for help but I don't know whether you can order tickets there if you are from outside Holland. You can surely order tickets at the NOZ Ticket office, 0031-30-2447044.

You can also order tickets through the website www.theater.nl. Click on the 'Ticketservice' logo, then click 'Agenda op datum', and then go to November 28 to the Nine Inch Nails gig. A 'Ticketservice' logo should appear there at midnight local time. You should then click the blue part of that logo, and then click on International orders. Fill in your personal data and your credit card number and the tickets will be sent to your home. It's so tempting I just may try myself. j/k

Thanks for the help: bas.

MTV Reviews The Fragile

Jason Ferguson from MTV online has reviewed The Fragile with some pretty interesting thoughts... Here's a snippet about what he had to say:

Much in the same way that Prince creates music that is at once accessible and definable, yet only accessible and definable as "Prince music," Reznor has, with Nine Inch Nails, created an entity that is completely independent of anything else on the planet. There are very few artists who have managed to do that: Metallica, Sonic Youth, Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd... they all took bits and pieces from various influences, mixed 'em up with their own cockeyed point of view, and wound up with something that dozens of other artists would imitate but never duplicate - in effect, creating their own genre. Reznor has done that as well. And, much in the same way that those artists would continually expand the envelope of their own genre, Reznor has, with The Fragile, exploded the definition of what Nine Inch Nails means.

Thanks a lot to: JR Scott.

Space Ghost Reviews The Fragile

The yellow cape crusader from the Cartoon Network is back at it again with his thoughts about Trent Reznor's latest work.

Honestly, I don't know why I bother anymore - I'm a complete failure. My show stinks. Nobody likes it. I'm mocked daily by the Council of Doom and everyone else considers me a laughing stock. My entire life has been one disaster after another. I should just hang up my cape and go somewhere quiet. Not that anyone would notice.... Great galaxies, citizens! Beware of this sinister menace known as "The Fragile." **All Points Bulletin: The latest monstrosity from Nine Inch Nails is guaranteed to wreak havoc on your senses, turning your cheer into pointless fear!!!** It even made me, Space Ghost, doubt my own talent and capacity to succeed...absurd! Someone must stop Trent Reznor and his "doom and gloom" prognostications immediately. Cheer up, Reznor! I'm coming after you. And I'm going to be armed with twelve fuzzy kittens and a gilded basket of Capri Sun fruit drinks! You and I are due for a close encounter of the gleeful kind. That's right, sourpuss. A whole lotta lovin' is what Space Ghost will be bringin'. Do you hear me? C'mon, get happy!

Thanks to: Lord Rader.

The Fragile Tabbed

NIN Tribute Album Release Date

A new update was posted at the official Broke Box website concerning the Nine Inch Nails tribute album that Dwell Records is putting out on November 16th. We last wrote about it on August 29th (read our "Broke Box Covers 'Wish' For Tribute Album" headline for more info) that originally held the title, "Noise Therapy." The tribute album is now called,"Halo Corrode: A Manipulative Tribute to NIN."

The news update from the official site explains Nine Inch Nails found about the tribute album (gee, I wonder how) and has given them a bit of legal trouble, but the CD should be ready to press in a couple of weeks says the site. Broke Box's cover of "Wish" will be track 11 on the album.

Thanks a lot to: evil angel.

More Fragile Reviews

The co-founder of Addicted To Noise/SonicNet Michael Goldberg has done something he rarely does. Write an extensive, personal review on a record, which this time is The Fragile.

He brings up issues about how music critics are screwed in the head by poorly rating The Fragile with low marks, even mentioning those who work under him.

"Well I've been listening to The Fragile all week. I loaded it into my Rio 500 and I've been listening through headphones, in my car, in my office, wherever I go. Let me tell you, it's no letdown. It's all that!"
Amazon.com has given The Fragile a solid 5-star ranking. The album is #4 all in all for the network

New EW Trent Reznor Interview

Australian Copies of The Fragile Lacks Sound & Ink Said a Fan

Nine Inch Nails fans who are big collectors may like to note that the Australian release of The Fragile lacks sound quality and package ink, but features larger CD art on the album it self compared to the quality and the artwork to the domestic release. Here's what Dave had to say:

The printing on the digipack and the booklet are poorer quality that the U.S. version (bearable) but worse is the CD printing - this is really crap. Originally I thought Trent had done it deliberately like this but as you can see from the attached image (click for scan) that the Aust. printers really fucked it up. What's even worse is the mastering of the CD. The audio quality is also lower on the Aust. release - distorts more at high volume - very disappointed and I'm sure Trent would be pissed at this.

Thanks to: dave.

The Fragile Configurations Explantion

Trent Reznor was on his growing message baord last night and gave a very large reponse to why The Fragile has so many configurations.

Hello everybody. I've been doing a lot of European press lately and they've been mentioning the various configurations of 'the fragile' and wondering if there was a reason (other than to make the hard-core fan buy them all) to have some different tracks on them. If you're curious, here's why. We agonised over the sequencing of the record and focused solely on the CD config. as the definitive one. After the decision was made to move to two CDs the problem then became removing tracks to get the right feel and flow. Taking the new flesh' off the CD was a tough call because Alan and myself really like the track, but it destroyed the balance and it just didn't fit. When we assembled the cassette, we now had four beginnings and endings to contend with instead of two of each (for the CD) follow? It worked out pretty well just dividing the songs up, but we wanted the A sides of the cassettes to be slightly longer than the B sides (so that when the tape flips over you are not in the middle of the first song on that side). We added the 'appendage' to 'please' to make that work. For the vinyl, the decision to move to three discs was based on fidelity. (you can only fit so many minutes on a side of vinyl before it degrades the sound) So now we are faced with SIX beginnings and endings. Simply splitting the sides up didn't work as well this time so we decided to include the other two tracks we had been considering ('10 miles high' and 'the new flesh') as well as use the full unedited versions of all the other songs on the record. The vinyl sequencing has actually grown on me lately as a viable alternate! -just thought you might want to know...

Trent Reznor responded:

Charlie Clouser explained on the forum some new details about the latest from Tapeworm, "One song complete and recorded. (Maynard from Tool, and Trent singing) Three others demo'd and partially recorded. (with Phil Anselmo and Page Hamilton, among others). Nine or ten promising tracks in the pile. NIN.com Complete Renovation

Along with the release of The Fragile on September 21st, the official Nine Inch Nails website is now alive and functional. Included are a few graphics, discussion boards-which is what the registration after halo 13 was for-, and available for download, a Kieth Hillebrant remix of "The Fragile" which was the inspiration for "The Frail". The site also comments that Nine Inch Nails are gearing up for a WorldWide tour soon. I've been informed that Trent Reznor will be doing meet and greet at his shows.

Tour Schedule Change

We mentioned on September 15th that Nine Inch Nails is currently filling their schedule with tour dates and the 013 Arena in Tilburg, Holland on November 28th, 99 is now being rescheduled.

The webmaster of 013 website wrote SeemsLikeSalvation today to explain, "the gig at 013 is being rescheduled, we don't know what date it's going to be. But it's not november 28th, as mentioned on your website."

I'm told the gig is not cancelled.... When 013 knows what date it's gonna be, they'll contact me and he'll place it on the 013-website.

WITT Campaign

The AltRockWorld.com website is headlining the online campaign for Interscope Records to get Nine Inch Nails "We're In This Together" video on MTV's "Total Request Live."

Good friend to SeemsLikeSalvation, Jess Redmon wrote to explain, "I'm seeking members for our online street team to go out there on the net and try and get NIN fans to vote for NIN on TRL. The kicker is that the street team members will get a lot of free promotional swag, flats (which are going for $50 on Ebay) and lots of hard to get promo items."

Also ARW's review of "The Fragile" is up and Trent is on the front of the site: http://www.altrockworld.com.

If people are interested they can contact Jess Redmon, jess@altrockworld.com about joining the team. He should know tomorrow what all they have for the street team members, but I'm told a lot of different things. It's a pretty big deal for Interscope and they really want dedicated and passionate NIN fans on this.

Trent Reznor in Time Magazine

In the September 27th issue of Time Magazine on page 92 and 93 is a full page picture and article featuring new quotes from Trent Reznor. The official website has posted the entire article online to read.

What may most surprise listeners of The Fragile is Reznor's disclosure that his rooting around in the dark side has revealed light. Not religion exactly, but spirituality. "I was in a spiritually vacant zone," he says, "and I rounded a corner. I believe there's a purpose and a karma that's real. If it's right for you, embrace it." Embrace the album too, if you dare; but be careful, it's fragile.

USA Today

In yesterday's paper of USA Today was an interview, a review of The Fragile and new photograph of Trent Reznor on the front cover of the Life section. The official USA Today has posted the article and review online.

Laser NIN Show F/ New Music

On September 20th the End radio station in Seattle (107.7) sponsored the new NIN laser show. The show played music off the Fragile, but just Starfuckers, TDTWWA, and WITT. But, the End gave away the new CD (with a "for promotional use only" sticker on it) if you could answer some NIN trivia questions.

A viewer wrote in to explain:

The 'hard' questions were: What is Trents nickname, what is his favorite candy, what songs from NIN won grammys in 92 and 96, and the question I won my CD from was perhaps the easiest. The Reznor company manufactures what appliance? And, to make it easier, he gave 3 choices. dishwasher, refrigerator, or heater. Of course, half the crowd was screaming how ungodly easy that question was, and luckily my loud mouth was heard first. The show starts off with TDTWWA, then gave up, a remix of the perfect drug (maybe the australian, or a local DJ remix). highlights were MOTP, WITT, and the 10000 homo djs, trent & ministry work of supernaut.

Thanks a lot to: fetusboy.

One of the two extra tracks on the vinyl is a vocal track called "The New Flesh," which we mention on our September 15th update. Below are the lyrics to The New Flesh.

I Can Take It
Sideways
Sometimes
Some Things
Feel Like
I'm On The Other Side
Waves
Of Every Feeling Ever Felt
...Screaming

Hold It Close
(So) I Can Taste It

I've Watched This Scene A Thousand Times
And In My Head
This Is How It All Begins
Yes, I Am Becoming

And This Is How It All Begins
What Did You Expect?
This Is Not An Exit
This Has Begun

I Can Almost See
The Blackest Eyes
The New Flesh
A New Disguise
...Welcoming...

Please

Give It To Me
I Can Take It
Give It To Me

Manson Video/Live Album News

Manson's management informed me yesterday night that their home video, "God Is In The TV" and the LIVE album "The Last Tour On Earth" are in the middle of being finalized. The street date we mentioned yesterday that Kraw was told in a meeting about upcoming releases was told for The Last Tour On Earth is a tentative date, but it's a safe bet to assume that it'll be out on November 16th. In other news, Kraw told me the Celebrity Deathmatch soundtrack that Marilyn Manson was originally featured on before he was cut because MTV said the unreleased Antichrist Superstar track "Astonishing Panorama of the End Times" was to violent (go figure) has a November 2nd release date.

Results From Australia NIN Program

Nothing to special to report but for those who missed the video show Friday, you didn't miss much. On September 16th (read our "Australia NIN Programming and NIN Radio Weekend" headline for more info) we reported that the Australian based music video program called 'Rage' was to air back-to-back NIN videos, but unfortunately for those fellow viewers who watched in hope to see tons of classic videos was ripped-off because of the Victorian State election. The election delayed the program for over an hour and skipped all but one of the Nine Inch Nails videos, which was "Closer." Check out the playlist for up coming shows.

Note From TheFragile.com

The webmaster of TheFragile.com, Dizzy wanted me to pass a note to the frequent viewers that they have run into some major server difficulties and will be changing providers in the next few days. They will be changing to a much secure provider with a server that features T1 and multiple T3 connections that will enable faster downloads. Their email program "yourname@thefragile.com" will stay fully functional so no worries there.

Manson Sighting

Nothing spectacular, but a viewer wrote in today to share an experience with you all about how he saw a movie and rode an elevator with none other than Marilyn Manson. I've had many viewers write in to talk about their close encounters with Manson so those who would like to write Terrence. I'm sure he's all ears. This is what he had to say:

I saw Twiggy, Mr. Manson and Rose at the movies the other night. It was at "The Minus Man" last Sunday. They sat in the very back, and then I rode the elevator with Manson and Rose but did not speak to them. Anyway, thought you might find it interesting. Great web site by the way.

Entertainment Weekly Gives The Fragile An "A-"

Here is a condensed version of the Entertainment Weekly review:

"The Fragile" enters a world of lousy teeny-poppers and hip hoppers who live and die by the single, and one has to wonder if a 2 cd art-rock epic can command the attention of a mass audience... It certainly deserves to. The Fragile is a visceral concept piece that revolves loosely around betrayal and its aftermath. Emotionally, it's familiar territory, but while current acts turn such emotions into bathroom graffiti Reznor aspires art. Reznor pits acoustic gutiar, piano, and unhinged voice against cybernetic drum corps and howling armadas of electric noise. The man vs. machine standoffs are breathe taking, most bear the imprint of co-producer Alan Moulder. The Fragile looks to older role models like King Crimson and David Bowie. Like art rockers before him, Reznor also nods to the 20th century classical music, mixing piano melodies a' la John Cage with thematic flavor from Claude Debussy "Le Mer". The storyline itself echoes mythology and Joseph Campbell's "The Hero With A thousand Faces". You almost expect cliff notes. These concepts are balanced with Reznor's brutish love of rock thunder and his secret weapon a popsmith's feel for hooks and melodies. The only shortcoming is NIN's raison d'etre. By the 2nd CD the suicidal impulses and pleadings can feel exhausting. Right now hard rock doesn't get any smarter, harder, or more ambitious than this.

A-

EW Fragile Review

Brief review of The Fragile in the September 17th issue of Entertainment Weekly on page 34-45.

"Trent Reznor may have taken two years to make a record, but he wasn't exactly slacking off. The Fragile cd, which delivers more than 100 minutes of music spread over 23 typically indelicate Nine Inch Nails (see Star Fuckers Inc.") sounds like a well-honed challenge to such heavy-duty upstarts as Limp bizkit and Korn. "It was all about not being afraid," said Reznor. If this is fragile, we're Hustler."

NIN Fan Review of The Fragile

SeemsLikeSalvation was sent a pretty detailed review from a viewer that recently bought the Fragile yesterday evening. It seems stores are breaking the September 21st street date... typical. Anyhow the review touches base on a few songs...

The Fragile is a wonderful mix of heavy guitar, sonic exploration, and melodic instrumentals that are pieced together to create a CD that has a lot to offer anybody who wants to listen to a CD with evolving themes and a variety different song structures. "Somewhat Damaged" is a funk laden heavy, build up guitar song.

"The Wretched" I think is the highlight of the disc. It is just a wonderful heavy song that combine all sorts of electronic backgrounds with great guitar work that continues to build during the entire song. Featuring lyrics like, "the clouds will part and the sky cracks open, and god himself will reach his fucking arm through, just to push you down, just to hold you down." There are some very nice piano instrumentals that vary from soft, ambient at times "The Frail" space music, to a heavy melodic solos like "Pilgrimage" that would make any "hard rock" band envious. "No, You Don't" is a typical foray into familiar NIN territory with a structured drum, guitar, and keyboard much like TDS. The whole first disc reminds me of a more complicated TDS in terms of layered instruments and song arrangements. There are surprises like the song "La Mer" a quiet hypnotic song with lyrics sung in a whisper by a female vocalists.

The 2nd disc is a bit of a change with more drum laden tracks and sort of a mix between trip hop and drum and bass light overtones in the way the songs are mixed. I'd say the 2nd disc is more melodic and disjointed then the first one. Not as many of the songs stand out in terms of melody, but I think it is the way it is arranged and mixed and may be like the last part of TDS where you have to pay more attention to what is going on. "Ripe With Decay" is a wonderful mix of piano, acoustic sounding guitar and odd samples that I can not place right now. "The Way Out is Through" is the sample used in the teaser Fragile commercial and it is a wonderful ride through sonic fog of sounds.

I'd say The Fragile will take some time to digest and I mean this in a good way, it will take many listens to grasp all the themes, and layers of this well developed CD. It is just what this stupid decade needs and will make you realize how thin, and unimaginative CD's are right now.

The viewer explained she bought The Fragile at her record store where she works to take it home. She left the money in the safe, so it would be scanned on 21st, and that way, street date would not be broken.

Thanks a lot to: kristen.

More NIN Tour Dates

Another SLS viewer from Paris wrote in today to explain about some new info on the upcoming Nine Inch Nails tour this fall.

"I was at Le Z*nith in Paris and there was a screen showing what was scheduled during the next three months and I saw Nine Inch Nails on November 25th. Moreover, I saw in Rocksound, a French magazine that they were also going to perform at La Mutualit* on November 15th. Le Z*nith has about 10,000 seats and La Mutualit* I think has 5,000."
So these are the crrent tentative dates we have to look at:
La Mutualit* - Paris - November 15th, 99
Le Z*nith - Paris - November 25th, 99
013 - Tilburg, Holland - November 28th, 99
??? - France - November ??, 99

Thanks a lot to: Nicolas.

NY Times: Fragile Review

Last Sunday, the Times ran a fall music preview. Rock critic John Pareles wrote:

"[The Fragile] seeks new nadirs of bitter disclosure matched to fine-tuned sonic assaults. Trent Reznor is still miserable after all these years. But misery has rarely sounded so technologically advanced; the production values on his new album are through the roof."
The Times also asked a few musicians what albums they're looking forward to hearing. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and some other little band said:
"I'm really looking forward to the new NIN record. I think Trent Reznor is one of the most creative, interesting, and surprising people that have come out in the last ten years. I remember seeing NIN on the 1st Lollopalooza tour and thinking, O.K., this seems like something that comes from Chicago. It was kind of interesting and dirty and gross. But Trent has proved himself to be a great arranger and composer. I have always kind of considered him Prince's dark alter ego."

Thanks ever so much to: Cyairen.

More Fragile Commercials

A Nine Inch Nails fan who works for the Cartoon Network wrote SeemsLikeSalvation today to explain, "We just got a commercial in today for the Fragile. The end tag is for Circuit City (I suppose they are sponsoring the ad) and they will have a limited supply of posters." He added that they don't know when the commercial will air, but we'll know later this week if this is the same commercial that has Trent singing "Underneath It All".

Thanks a lot to: Michael

Portrait & The Lost Highway Released To Vinyl Soon

An online vinyl website in England called Simply Vinyl had plans to release The Lost Highway soundtrack and Marilyn Manson's Portrait of America Family on vinyl later this month, but unfortunately due to late arrival of artwork from America, the two titles are now slated before the end of October, said the sale representative. We'll have more information soon when we get a more realistic date.

Thanks a lot to: nick.

Details About The Fragile Package

The North American, September 21st release of the highly anticipated third Nine Inch Nails LP is just shy of 5 days away and sources tell me the album is a masterpiece. The sweaty palms of millions of fans circling the globe, anxiously count as the seconds tick as NIN releases their double LP; The Fragile.

Here are just some small tidbits about The Fragile that have brought some concern to the fans in the past few weeks. The album does feature a booklet with all the lyrics, which slide in the middle of the double digi pack. The booklet contains no images, but beautiful textures. For those wondering if there are any pictures of Trent Reznor in the album? Once again there are none.

On our March 18th update (read our "Trent Reznor Supposedly in LA Recording at Sunset Sound Studios" headline for more info) we reported that Trent Reznor was seen in LA recording at Dr Dre's Sunset Sound Studios on March 17th. What Trent Reznor was doing there at the time only the "big guns" in LA knew, but fortunately with the few NIN interviews that have come and gone. Trent Reznor explained Dr. Dre helped mix a song for The Fragile. What song you all might be asking yourself is called "Even Deeper," which the triple vinyl will feature a slightly longer version that we previously reported. Dr Dre is credited as "mixing assistant" for this 5 minute and 47 second long vocal track found on disc 1, track 8.

A few confirmed songs that Adrian Belew from King Crimson contributed guitar work on The Fragile is "Just Like You Imagined," "The Great Below" and "Where Is Everybody."

Another name that stands out on the Fragile, which they are credited on the left inside of page is the Buddha Debutante Choir, which is the vocal group that performs on The Fragile. Trent Reznor told Kurt Loder last week during the exclusive MTV interview, "I think we assembled the most atonal group of females I've ever heard. [Laughs] I hope they're not watching this right now. But they were just comically horrendous" to sing on the album. The buddha girls who are Melissa Digie, Judy Miller, Christine Parrish, M. Gabriela Rivas, Heather Bennett, Fae Young and Marhta Wood sing back up chants to The Day The World Went Away. They were pulled from the Igor's Buddha Belly Bar and Grill at 4437 Magazine in New Orleans.

Possibly Short Comings With The Fragile Japanese Release

Commy over at ThePerfectDrug website has written us to explain that the Japanese release of The Fragile will be out on September 23rd, but some famous CD shops will be selling the album the evening before...

The majority of the Japanese NIN releases feature extra tracks, but in this case I'm told the Fragile will be the same as the domestic version. Unfortunately Commy has been told the cassette and the vinyl for The Fragile won't be sold leaving only the double CD version, which means they lose out in hearing the alternate version of "Please," the slightly longer versions of "The Day The World Went Away," "Even Deeper," and "La Mer" as well as the two additional tracks, "10 Miles High" and "The New Flesh."

We'll have all the details on September 22nd if the Japanese version of The Fragile has the same contents as the domestic release.

Thanks a lot to: commy.

Australia NIN Programming and NIN Radio Weekend

Nine Inch Nails videos are going to be played on the Australian music video show called Rage (ABC) on Saturday night (September 18th). Look here for notes about nin, and here for a playlist, which will be up tomorrow afternoon (Friday) sometime.

The Triple J radio station has announced that "The Fragile" will be the feature album for the week starting 17th September. What this means is that they will play on average one or two songs from the album every hour and pretty much flog it to death!

Trent Reznor said in a press release a few weeks back that, "As a fan, I want to listen to an album, not just singles," says Reznor. "I want something that I can sink my teeth into, something that I can listen to a million times, trying to get more out of it with each spin. That's the record I tried to make here. This is The Fragile."

Thanks a lot to: james, david.

Coma White Video Causes Small Issues

Sonicnet.com updated yesterday with an article concerning Marilyn Manson's "Coma White" video, which aired on MTV"s "Total Request Live" yesterday at #8.

A snippet from the article reads:

"It is profoundly disturbing that an important figure of today's pop culture would exploit an American tragedy in this manner," wrote Mark Gillis, who runs a website called "JFK Memorial Page" out of Boston.

5K Fragile Review in Kerrang! Magazine

In the latest issue of Kerrang! magazine features an awesome review of The Fragile with details from some new tracks we've yet to hear. Here's a snippet from the review:

Acclaimed by Reznor himself as the best work of his life, "The Fragile" is ambitious, inventive and emotive. After this, you may never want to hear Slipknot or Korn or Limp Bizkit again.

It begins, unexpectedly, with the funky strum of an acoustic guitar, although "Somewhat Damaged", the amusingly-titled first track, quickly reveals classic NIN traits: a hypnotic, mechanised beat and a lyric full of self-loathing. 'Too fucked up to care any more,' Reznor moans. He is a gothic rock icon, after all.

"The Day The World Went Away" follows, one of the album's key tracks, a gigantic rock roar interspersed with ominous lulls and finished with a powerful 'na-na' chorus. Truly an anthem for the year 2000. Then comes "The Frail", a two-minute instrumental evoking the eerie calm of Bowie's "Low", and "The Wretched", a cold, hard funk crunch as pervy as "Closer". Then it's the seven-minute single "We're In This Together", a song with the raw power of early NIN and all the desperate romance of Bowie's "Heroes".

You can be read their full review here.

Street Advertisements For The Fragile

The scan on the right are usually called Subway posters, but this an actual painting of The Fragile cover art. In this case the Tower sunset is a highly visible store (lots of important people in the record business come to the store) rather than just send posters and those little cardboard square things, the labels pay more money to have a painting/billboard put up outside of the store to advertise the album. I'm told there are probably 30 of these paintings, which a group of artists that are comissioned to paint these kind of things (most of them are shitty) for the labels once the label has bought the space at Tower. Anyhow subway posters are giant like posters that advertise upcoming shows, events, or releases. This image was taken with a polaroid camera in front of the Tower Sunset in LA, which went on display this evening. Although there are several of these for different artists all along the outside of the store. The NIN painting is in a prominent position, which Interscope Records paid for.

Free Fragile Weekend At FNX Network

FNX wrote us yesterday evening to explain that SeemsLikeSalvation News is the first to know that FNX is about to announce "Free Fragile Weekend" with copies of the new Nine Inch Nails CD every 15 minutes; celebration commences on Monday night with a live Tower Records release party.

(BOSTON) The FNX Radio Network, the Boston-based radio chain that debuted Nine Inch Nails' "The Day The World Went Away," "Starfuckers, Inc." and "We're In This Together" before any station in the free world, has announced plans for an entire weekend dedicated to The Fragile, NIN's long-awaited double album.

The FNX "Free Fragile Weekend" will kick off on Friday, September 17th at 5:00. The station will give out free copies of the CD every 15 minutes until Sunday evening, along with frequent giveaways to a Nine Inch Nails laser light show at Boston's Museum Of Science. CDs will not be given away during specialty programming segments like "Spin Cycle" and "The Jazz Brunch"

In addition to spinning music from Trent Reznor's entire musical career, tracks from the new Nine Inch Nails disc may also be showcased during the promotion. On Monday, September 20, FNX will invade Tower Records on Newbury Street in Boston with a special, one-time only live broadcast of "Xtreme FNX." Thousands of fans are expected to visit Tower on Monday night for the store's midnight sale of "The Fragile." In addition to live appearances from FNX deejays Adam 12 and Storm Zbel, FNX will also be handing out free, limited edition FNXNIN bumperstickers.

For more information on FNX's "Free Fragile Weekend," log on to the FNX Radio Network website at www.fnxradio.com.

NIN To Tour The Globe

For those who are anxious enough to see Nine Inch Nails tour since the three small appearances at the "Nights of Nothing" tour in 1996 (supporting the Nothing bands). Start saving up your money now, because the tour of the millennium is just around the corner and though this date is still unconfirmed for this years fall scheduled tour there is a high possibility this is true. We mentioned last month on August 14th (read our "Nine Inch Nails Tentative Tour Schedule" headline for more info) that the tentative tour schedule is: South America - October, Europe - October/November, Japan - early January 2000, Australia - January/February 2000, including a North American tour Spring 2000. The tentative schedule is living up to be true with an unconfirmed date at the 013 Arena in Tilburg, Holland on November 28th, 99. The venue couldn't give any date on which the presale started, because NIN management couldn't confirm the gig till now. 013 is a 2,300 capacity venue, which only opened in November 1998. It's the only venue in Holland, which was specifically built for pop music. Marilyn Manson played there on December 14th of last year. I can warn you that tickets can go extremely fast. The Red Hot Chili Peppers gig at the 14,000 venue in the Hague sold out within the hour. We'll keep you posted on the latest...

Thanks a lot to: Bas

Two New NIN Tracks On The Fragile Tripple Vinyl

Industrial Strength Machine Music CD Scans

I The Alternative Press: Industrial Strength Machine Music CD featuring a live track of "Gave Up" by Nine Inch Nails amongst the 16 hard edge tracks that began the industrial scene came out today.

The senior writer of Alternative Press, Jason Pettigrew wrote a large article in the liner notes of the record. Below is a snippet from the booklet concerning NIN:

Reznor then secured a record contract from the NYC-based indie label TVT, who released NIN's debut, Pretty Hate Machine in 1989. In addition to making the computer a valid musical instrument, Reznor triumphantly stamped human emotion on the veneer of industrial rock's seething nihilism. Over time, word-of-mouth coverage of NIN's violent gigs heightened Reznor's notoriety, and Pretty Hate Machine went multiplatninum. In one of the greatest displays of music business irony, TVT was able to purchase the financially ailing Wax Trax! in the mid '90s with money generated from the sales of PHM. Reznor become industrial rock's first superstar- an oxymoronic description in light of genera's deliberate anticommercial potential.
Below is the track listing to Industrial Strength Machine Music:

Three Different Versions of The Fragile

According to the merchandise webstore Hot Topic explained in their Noise section of the site. The Fragile will consist of slightly different versions of songs on each of the vinyl, cassette and CD copies of the disc. "Which should force hard-core fans of Mr. Reznor to purchase the double disc in multiple formats," says the site.

Finck's Two Years Of Work With GNR Erased

There was a rumor floating around that after guitarist Robin Finck contributed two years of his talent to the never-finished, six years in the making Guns N' Roses album and not renewing his contract with GnR so he could rejoin Nine Inch Nails that all his hard effort was erased. According to Rollingstone online it's all true.

"Apparently the only old-school holdover is Dizzy Reed, and new members include Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson. Dave Navarro will play on a single set to appear in the new Schwarzenegger movie, End of Days, and Queen's Brian May may show up at a few live shows," explains Rollingstone.

MTV News 1515 - Part Two NIN Interview

MTV News 1515 recently aired part two of the Trent Reznor interview this morning which Trent said, "if The Downward Spiral is kind of a decent into pealing off layers and madness ultimately and ending the record in a very kind of bleak spot. The Fragile starts there and is almost more about repair."

Kurt Loder asked if the "The Fragile" and "We're In This Together" tracks were love songs, which Trent explain, "There was a tragedy involved in all of them. I just read some early reviews that We're In This Together, 'Was Unusually positive' and I didn't write it thinking it was very positive. So I made a video that is very, very ugly to make sure no one gets the wrong idea."

The brief three minute interview went on about what Trent thought of Woodstock '99 and MTV even went on to mention that "Starfuckers, Inc." was about Marilyn Manson by airing video footage of The Dope Show. MTV News 1515 reairs tonight 11 pm (EST), 10 pm (PT).

Coma White Video Teaser

Marilyn Manson fans who are interested in seeing an early screening if you would of the highly anticipated music video "Coma White" before it airs on MTV's "Total Request Live" (Monday, Sept 13th) for it is exclusively online at the official Marilyn Manson news website. The previously unreleased video clocks in with 1 minute and 6 seconds worth of footage.

Among the joy of gasping at new Marilyn Manson video, Manson has made an official statement concerning his thoughts behind the video:

"Over six months ago I filmed a video for the song 'Coma White,' in which I enact the 'Journey of Death.' This is a pageant where I used the assassination of JFK as a metaphor for America's obsession and worship of violence. My statement was always intended to make people think of how they view, and sometimes, participate in these events. Little did I know that the tragedy at Columbine and the accidental death of JFK, Jr. would follow. But it was telling to see the media shamelessly gorge itself on these events, which ultimately made my observations in the video even truer than I had originally imagined. This short film clip is inspired by my script 'Holywood' and it is in no way a mockery. In fact, it is a tribute to men like Jesus Christ and JFK who have died at the hands of mankind's unquenchable thirst for violence."

New NIN Commercial - WITT Video Update

Last night among the many Sega Dreamcast, Pepsi and M&M commercials during the MTV VMAs aired a new 30 second Nine Inch Nails commercial for The Fragile. The ad featured Trent, zoom in shots of what looks to be The Fragile cover art and new music, which sounds faintly similar to the NIN teaser that the official website had running in July.

Check out the halo99 website which contains many pictures from the ad and more.

Unfortunately the new Nine Inch Nails video, "We're In This Together" won't be airing this week. Stay tuned next week when it could possibly air...

New Promo NIN Ads

Nine Inch Nails performed a new single off the group's forthcoming double album, called "The Fragile," which they were expected to play "We're In This Together" said MTV News. Backed by the usual guitar/bass/drums/keyboards configuration as well as singers and cellos Trent Reznor put on a mesmerizing performance, and he even appeared to crack a grin at one point. The complete lyrics of "The Fragile" can be read at the official Nine Inch Nails website.

MTV News online jumped on the ball and has fully transcribed the Trent Reznor interview with MTV reporter Kurt Loder including a few stills that aired during the "Opening Act" show for the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this evening. Among the breif five minute interview MTV features a 40 second real audio clip here of Nine Inch Nails performing "The Fragile."

I will be working on a new section to hold all the stills I captured from the performance this week, including high quality scenes of the Trent Reznor interview.

Coma White Video Snap Shot

The official Marilyn Manson News website has posted a snap shot taken from Manson's 4th video "Coma White" off their multi platinum album Mechanical Animals. The video airs on MTV September 13th on Total Request Live 3:00 p.m. EST, which we mentioned on September 8th. (read our "Coma White Debut, Live Manson Album, Manson Home Video News" headline for more info)

Hopefully I might get a chance to upload some stills of the making of the video later this month.

Thanks a lot to: boby.

MTV Video Awards - Update One

I am currently working on a transcript for the brief Trent Reznor interview that aired during MTV's "Opening Act" show for The MTV Video Music Awards.

During the interview a short 10 second bad ass audio snippet of "The Great Below" track 12; CD 1 off The Fragile was aired... Trent shouting the lyrics, "I'll take my place in the great below!" This new song is going to be an instant favorite among the 23 tracks. We will have pictures and possibly video later tonight.

Marilyn Manson won best cinematography in a video for The Dope Show!! Manson was up against Hole, ("Malibu") Korn, ("Freak on a Leash") Madonna, ("Beautiful Stranger") and Will Smith, (Miami), which was announced just a few minutes ago during the "Opening Act" show.

Interscope Plans To Promote 'The Fragile' The Next Two Years

Lenny LaSalandra, National Director Of College Radio Promotion for Interscope, explained to Yahoo News, that NIN has changed accordingly, "Trent has reinvented himself. It is going to be very exciting for everyone," he says. Traditionally, commercial, alternative, Loud Rock and RPM radio have been supportive formats for NIN. The band's label believes that "it is important for Trent to stay true to his roots, so all those formats will be worked."

"The Fragile is such an important priority for Interscope that the company is planning to promote the album throughout the next two years," said Amy Sciarretto of Yahoo News. "The magnitude of this album and this artist warrants that kind of commitment. When you hear the album for yourself, you will understand: every song on the album is perfect for college radio, including the instrumentals," said LaSalandra.

Guitarist Adrian Belew, pianist Mark Garson and Swans/Ministry drummer William Rieflin all lend their talents to The Fragile, which was recorded at Nothing Studios in New Orleans. As for the sound of the work, Lasalandra explained, "I have never heard music quite like this before in my life. This album is seriously going to change music. Imagine trip-hop loops on top of heavy, guitar-based rock. Imagine if a funky Prince fell on top of old-school Depeche Mode beats. Imagine multiple instruments layered in a wall of sound to create a collage like a not-so-noisy version of Merzbow. Mix in lyrics that are dark and nihilistic, as one would expect from Mr. Reznor, and you've got a great package."

German Music Channel 'VIVA II' Airs Advertisement-Trailer for "The Fragile"

New NIN commercials promoting The Fragile have begun to surface that resemble if not look exactly like the new NIN sticker/posters we mentioned yesterday. The commercial features a black background, the worldly famous NIN Logo and the German release for The Fragile 27.09.99. While the ad is running you can hear excerpts from "The Day The World Went Away" the first commercial single to The Fragile, which was never released in Germany. I'm told the German Marketing Company for "The Fragile" has wanted to do TV-Spots, for quite some time.

Here is the first of The Fragile promotional advertisement, which we described on the update earlier today. This isn't a poster, but a Nine Inch Nails sticker. TRL Mentions NIN Video 'We're In This Together' To Possibly Debut Today

Yesterday afternoon during MTV's "Total Request Live," Kurt Loder ran a brief update about the upcoming exclusive Trent Reznor interview that is to take place at 6:30pm (EST) during the pre-MTV Video Music Awards show on Thursday, September 9th.

Loder mentioned that he has heard The Fragile and thinks it's amazing. There was a brief documentary including video shots of "Head Like a Hole", candid '92 Lollapalooza shots, and screen shots of the Pretty Hate Machine, Broken and The Downward Spiral CD covers including soundtracks shots of Natural Born Killers and The Lost Highway which he produced. Trent was also credited for the success of Marilyn Manson's Anitchrist Superstar during the brief documentary .

Following Kurt Loder's announcement the host of TRL, Carson Daly mentioned the possibility of the new Nine Inch Nails video, "We're In This Together" debuting this evening if the final editing is complete, which we mentioned was the cause of the delay on our August 26th headline "NIN Video 'We're In This Together' Delayed?". At the moment the video debut date is still anyone's guess....

NIN Promo Details

The promotional gear for The Fragile has begun to surface, which we'll have scans online before the night falls hopefully. A German magazine editor wrote SeemsLikeSalvation News yesterday to explain their promotional posters are long, black and sport the famous NIN logo with the UK release date, "The Fragile - Out 20.09.99" on the front. There are also some postcards featuring the same design.

German record label Motor Music explained to us The Fragile will arrive to the press during the next days.

FNX: T-Minus 10 Days

The FNX Radio Network (101.7 in Boston) wrote SeemsLikeSalvation News today to explain, "FNX is not doing anything with Nine Inch Nails on 9/9/99," but their local copycat radio station has plans to run some sort of Nine Inch Nails programming that day -- which, FNX cared to explained, they are "obviously, trying to capitalize on the creativity and planning of FNX's own NIN efforts."

They did want me to mention that their FNXNIN countdown currently stands at 10 days. hmmm...

Darth Maul Inspired By Marilyn Manson

A book entitled, "The Art of Star Wars Episode I-The Phantom Menace" hits shelves this week. One interesting tidbit is this excerpt from the book found on the awesome Star Wars website: TheForce.net.

When Lucas asked [Ian] McCaig to draw Darth Maul as his worst childhood nightmare, it was suprisingly a female character that looks like the love child of Marilyn Manson and Raggedy Ann. Several other "Sith Witches", as they were called, were also designed but not used.
So, it can be said the design and look for Darth Maul (the badass villain from Episode One) was actually inspired by Marilyn Manson.

Thanks a lot to: dark jedi master.

Explanation Why "A Warm Place" Remix Never Made Stigmata Soundtrack

We mentioned on January 22nd, (read our "Trent Collaborates With Sister Soleil for Movie Soundtrack" headline for more info) that the Chicago-based band Sister Soleil recorded in New Orleans with Trent Reznor earlier this year for the new movie soundtrack Stigmata, which is currently on sale now in your local record stores. Unfortunately the remix of 'A Warm Place' that Sister Soleil and Trent Reznor collaborated on never made it to the soundtrack.

I asked around and vocalist Stella Kalsoudas of Sister Soleil wrote SeemsLikeSalvation News to explain, "the director didn't like my voice, he said it took away from the scene too much in the end. So it got axed." Kalsoudas added, "I happen to be a big NIN fan too, so the experience was well worth it."

So that leaves us to ponder how or when this remix will ever get released, but in the meantime the soundtrack features 10 mad tracks composed by Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins. All but seven songs on the album were scored by the Smashing Pumpkins frontman (along with composer-jazz artist Mike Garson) -- his first major foray into music scoring explains Allstar News.

The official track listing is below:

01. Mary Mary (Stigmatic Mix) - Chumbawamba
02. Gramarye - Remy Zero
03. All Is Full Of Love - Bjork
04. The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell - David Bowie
05. Release (Edit) - Afro Celt Sound System
06. Inertia Creeps - Massive Attack
07. Identify - Natalie Imbruglia
08. Identify (Dust)/1,000,000 Voices - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
09. Pop Pop/Await/Reflect (Pretty) - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
10. Reflect (Clouds)/Truth - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
11. Of Square Waves/Random Thought - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
12. Reflection/Possession - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
13. Reflect (Gray)/Of Sine Waves - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
14. Distrbnce (After Sckhausen)/Reflect (Pause)/Orah - The Royal Berlin Knife
And Phorchestra/Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
15. Sustain/Identify (Affectation) - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
16. All Answers Revealed/Reflect (Devotion) - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
17. Purge/10,000,000 Voices/Reflect (Purity)/Identify (Peace) - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
18. Reflect (Time)/Tree Whispers - Billy Corgan/Mike Garson
The movie opens Nation wide on Friday, September 10th.

Manson Music Used In From Dusk Till Dawn 3

Clive, an SLS viewer wrote in to explain he has seen an almost finished version of the Tarantino & Rodriguez's vampire film From Dusk Till Dawn 3: Hangman's Daughter recently. Clive explained, "currently the f/x scenes still need to be completed with a strait to video release early next year." He adds, "untraditional to either [of the] filmmakers style, two songs from Marilyn Manson (Beautiful People and Dried, Tied and Dead To The World) were used during the peak vampire scenes."

Those who are interested in knowing what the third chapter to this vampire series is all about... Clive adds, "the story takes us back to the origins of 'Santanica Pandemonium' (Hayek's character)."

Unfortunately there is not an official final music bed for the film. However it is highy likely the Manson songs will stay.

NIN Video Debuts Next Week

I'm told the highly anticipated Nine Inch Nails video We're In This Together is looking for a debut date near the end of next week on MTV. There is talk about the video debuting either the day of the MTV Video Music Awards or the following morning. Unfortunately it's still not definite.

The Fragile artwork has gone under some small last minute changes to it's inside appearance. The artwork will be finished in time for the official September 21st street date.

NIN Listening Party Last Week

There was a listening party held on Wednesday, August 25th by Nothing/Interscope Records for the press in London. The editor in chief of the Japanese Rockin'on magazine named Kouji Miyazaki joined that party and wrote a review of The Fragile in their October issue.

The review is pretty insignificant, but to sum the brief review up. Miyazaki explained The Fragile has the same story as The Downward Spiral, which doesn't help too much.

For those who are still interested in purchasing the Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar vinyl (including myself) should be aware that it still available on vinyl by a company called simply vinyl. It's a 2-lp set. The lp's are remastered and extra heavy (180 grams). It costs about $25. You can order the album from Large among others.
