The Downward Spiral

"The Downward Spiral" is one of Nine Inch Nails' most popular and controversial albums, containing some of Nine Inch Nails' most-beloved songs. As the name suggests, the songs of "The Downward Spiral" carry listeners through the story of one man's spiral downward into self-destruction. The story begins with "Mr. Self Destruct", a song which fans frequently interpret as a person's struggle with drugs and self-hatred, and ends with "Hurt", a song which is meant to describe the characters' acceptance of self hatred and eventual suicide.
