The Evolving Band Members of Nine Inch Nails
Nine Inch Nails is an industrial rock band founded by Trent Reznor. The band started in Cleveland, Ohio, in the summer of 1988 and grew into a national sensation in the decades that followed. Over the years, the band has seen a number of members come and go, but they have consistently produced music with a signature sound.
In the beginning, Nine Inch Nails was a one-man show, which explains why Reznor is the only official member of the band. Reznor could not find band members that articulated the songs that he had written. Instead, he learned to play all of the instruments required for his music, with the exception of the drums, and released a small album on a European label.
Band members have come and gone, playing both live concerts and recorded albums. In 2005, Alex Carapetis worked with the band and played the drums during the latter half of the “With Teeth” tour. Charlie Clouser was with the band from 1994 to 2000 and played the keyboards and synthesizers. Alessandro Cortini played the synthesizers and bass guitar from 2004 to 2008. From 1999 to 2005, Jerome Dillon played the drums. Robin Fink was with the band on and off from 1994 to 2009, and he played a variety of instruments and performed vocals. John Freese was with the band from 2005 to 2008 and played the drums. From time-to-time, Danny Lohner played a variety of instruments for the band. Other band members have included Lee Mars, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Ron Musarra, Aaron North, Richard Patrick, Ian Rubin, Nick Rushe, Chris Vrenna, Jeff Ward, Jeordie White and James Woolley.
Though the band officially retired in 2009 when Reznor elected to move on to other projects, rumors surfaced that they were working on a new project in late 2011. To date, artists working on this project are unknown.

Thank you for the information on the history and possible future of Nine Inch Nails. I hope the rumors are true about a new project being in the works even though the leader of the band is no longer with the musical group. I will also be looking for more projects done by Trent Reznor in the future. - Faerie on 3/23/2012
