The Fragile

Comprised of dark, ambient soundscapes and introspective lyrics, The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails is largely different from the band's previous works. The Fragile is the third album from Trent Reznor and long time collaborator Alan Moulder, and unlike the angry and dark tones of The Downward Spiral, The Fragile is based around a lyrical concept of building something out of nothing. With a combination of ambient electronica, rock guitars and a heavy use of orchestral and choir elements, the album is a much softer and more melodic collection than the pieces that Nine Inch Nails fans have come to expect from this cherished rock band. The album's lyrics deal more with personal misery and despair, and as a whole, the album is said to start from nothing and arrive right back by the end of the record. With a heavy use of space and harmonic melodies, this double album offers up a different side of Trent and Nine Inch Nails.
